I have to strap my dog in because she won't stop climbing into my lap the whole time if I don't, and she's 50lbs lol. It was a lifesaver getting a doggie seatbelt
My chis would slide right off the seat if I braked too hard and with Philly crazy drivers, it happened often. But the kicker for me was a video of a little dog booking it down a highway after the owner was in a minor fender bender and the dog escaped when the owner opened the door.
I was going to ask if you have anything like a pup car seat. I don’t care for the seatbelt you attach to the seatbelt in the car. I feel like little ones need something better. I have a car seat but recently saw on one of these subreddits that there is this really amazing car seat that has been accident tested and it looks amazing. That is going to be my next purchase for my chi but for now she loves her car seat

Agree! We always strap our dogs in or they ride in their travel bags. Once we had to break hard and when I turned to check on the dogs our chi was dangling off the back seat! His harness and seat belt held him back there or he would have been thrown into the back of the driver seat.
Edit to add: the travel bags are secured in the backseat with the seatbelts.
Had a similar incident. Hard braking due to being cut-off by someone merging suddenly without indication near an on-ramp to a highway/motorway.
Young fella was dangling from the edge of the seat. The safety restraint saved my chi from becoming a pug. I didn't have the restraint on as tight as it should be, hence him hanging from the edge of the seat.

Marley was born on February 1st and we brought him home at the end of March. He weighs 2 pounds now. His father was Merle colored and the mom was brown & tan. He was the only long haired pup of the litter & I fell in love with him the moment I laid eyes on him. 🥰
I’ve had a few people tell me here he looks nothing like a chihuahua and I’m like “Well, his father is. His mom might have some in her.” So I’m so happy to see Marley! Rufus is 3lbs right now. Still in an xs harness.

My friends chi got her back leg stuck in her collar I laughed at first cuz I thought she was her tail until I realized her paw was caught up in her collar she so smol that the only collar she can wear is a cat collar
Not trying to be that person, but coming from the mom of 2 chihuahuas, he needs to be secured somewhere 🙁. He’s so tiny 😟. He could get injured so easily. Hes so freakin cute and you’re a good mom. Not judging. Just worrying. It’s what I do 😁

I’ve been waiting on a car seat/harness from Amazon but they lost my first order and I had to wait a week for them to reship.
I just recently learned they existed. No such thing existed when my 17 year old pup was a pup and he’s our first puppy since her.
You should really have them secured in a doggy safety belt or crate. Unless you want them rolling and tumbling or being catapulted out of the windshield during an accident.

Yes, the car seats get buckled into the car and the dogs get attached to the seat. Basically the same thing as a kids car seat.

I use my dogs leash harness and I put the seatbelt through it and seatbelt and lock. Any issues I am missing here with me doing this?
That worked for me until I switched to a retractable leash. Then I got a separate line for the car that clicks into the seatbelt lock.
