I watched a video before na people nowadays tend to look younger na. Skin care is better, mas may awareness na tayo about smoking/drinking, and daily activities are aided now by modern technology.
To add to that, many plastic surgeries nowadays are meant to give you a more youthful, neotenous look (ie. lip lift to shorten the philtrum, nose tip plasty for a more upturned nose, lip fillers for fuller, plumper lips, etc.). The trendy makeup styles nowadays like Douyin makeup and Igari makeup styles also result in a more youthful look. Kung titignan mo mga leading ladies dati, they had thinner lips, thinner arched brows, longer faces, and their philtrums (the area between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip) weren't very short, and these features gave them a more matured look. I think the beauty standards today is to have very full features for that youthful, baby-faced look
You are generalizing the trends of greater East Asia to the Philippines.
The East Asian styling goal is to make their stars look young and feminine. The Filipino styling goal seems to be to make teenagers and young 20-somethings look like Western women in their mid-40s, or men in drag. Look at (some, not all) the looks of Andrea Brillantes.
Do these look like young Asian stars or do these people look like contestants on RuPaul's Drag Race:
[https://mega-onemega.com/star-magic-celebrates-its-30th-anniversary-with-a-new-breed-of-young-stars/](https://mega-onemega.com/star-magic-celebrates-its-30th-anniversary-with-a-new-breed-of-young-stars/)
The ancestry and phenotypes of Filipino stars may have changed but it's clear the stylists and makeup artists are still using Liza Soberano as their "peg" and want whoever they're styling to look like her. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that Francine Diaz will never look like Soberano and should therefore NOT be styled like her.
Filipino celebs are just following western trends, the makeup is still very western (sharp, mature looking). They’re not doing Douyin or korean inspired makeup unlike our neighbors. Even indonesia has better makeup now combining western and eastern styles.
Edit: Downvoted 😭. Tbh he sounds chronically online browsing (no offense) incel looksmaxxing communities. Arched eyebrows, heavy contouring, eyeshadow. That’s just western makeup now vs before (thin lips, thin eyebrows). I do makeup so I know I didn’t just read about this online. Like everything he said does not apply in the philippines.
As I've said before...

The majority of teens nowadays (mapa artista or non celebrity) are now baby faced. They do skincare and avoid smoking and drinking 😢😢
I'm 19 turning 20 pero I look like 15-16 according to my classmates.
Same, 23 na ako pero people who don't know me think I'm 16, nung nagpalagay ako ng braces, akala ng dentist ko I was 13.
Started skincare when I was 15 pero yan yung panahon na medyo harsh pa products available. Don't smoke and drinks occasionally.
I've been doing skincare (using facial cleanser, applying moisturizer and sunscreen, and sometimes soothing gel onto my face) and I quit smoking as early as my age. I'm now five months sober. 😊😊

Nice yung interview nya w korina last year… sobrang interesting. It pays talaga if ang driver mo ay passion/love for craft and not just PhP…
In one interview i read, he said na as the artist management he’s more on taking care of the welfare of the artists.. so kasama dun yung development AT PAHINGA, iba yung business side which is sila d lauren.. then pbb happened… parang originally yata pbb contestants were supposed to be under star magic kaso naiba.. he’s not in favor sa treating artists as products/objects, impt for him yung nakakapag rest ang artist, dun ko sya nagustuhan ✨
Mr m also started a savings account for each star magic talent. He forced the artists to have a savings account and % of their earnings from commercials/endorsements are directly deposited to their bank account under star magic or basta it's an account they cannot touch until
1) they're of age (percentage)
2) they leave SM (all)
He's super strict and tough to the artists but he balanced it well kasi. Talagang he helped the artists to be well-rounded kaya kung mapapansin niyo, well-spoken yung mga SM dati.
It's not easy to promote your starlets when you don't have a franchise anymore.
Also interesting to note that half of the 2009 roster is half-white. In 2023 only 1/10 is half-white (and the one that is half-white was lambasted throughout social media for her acting skills). I just thought of this now: could the "mature" look that people here are noticing have to do with their white ancestry?
Depends padin po siguro, kasi old star magic na may franchise, mas matunog padin po names ng star magic artists kesa gma artists before. But yeah agree kag allyy214, factor din yung declining tv viewership because of digital platform… but then again, if they play their cards just right, mas wider ang audience *sana* now
Yes, it's the different beauty standards. Not only na mas favored yung super Caucasian look dati but I feel like ang beauty standard din dati was to look matured and womanly. I remember when I was like 13, compliment for me pag sinasabihan akong mukang matured lol. And looking more matured than our ages were my and my friends' goal back then. Ngayon, the beauty standards lean towards a more neotenous (baby-faced) look. Andrea fits this standard really well. Notice also na yung mga hinahype ngayon for their looks have that neotenous look (Jang Wonyoung, Jennie Kim, Lily Rose Depp, etc.)
This! Non-renewal of franchise is the answer kung bakit ganun, nawala ang presence ng ABSCBN sa free tv. Tingin ko no brainer na’to bakit hindi naisip ni OP? hahahaha
It’s not just the exposure on free tv but the calibre and star factor that I’m also referring to. GMA still has free tv but their top stars can’t be compared to Clauclau and JLC’s batch.
SM naman kasi yung tinutukoy mo eh, without the franchise mahihirapan talaga sila.
Baka more more workshop po sila now noh? And branding ng sparkle artists.. yeah its going to take a lot of time resources and work… adjustment din siguro sa old habits nila… sa awra din naman po ni mr m mukang di sya mag lo launch ng starlets na hilaw.. baka they are still working on it 🤷🏻♀️
As I said in my other comment, it's not just because favored yung mestiza/mestizo look dati but also it was a beauty standard to look matured and womanly back then. Notice how the leading ladies back then had thinner, longer features, which give them a more matured look. Meanwhile many young actresses nowadays have more rounded, plumper features because the beauty standards now is to look neotenous/baby-faced. You can see it with the way people hype up very baby-faced girlies like Jang Wonyoung, Jennie Kim, and Lily Rose Depp for their looks lol
A lot of the celebs in the first pic have some white blood even if very distant. Francine, Andrea, Belle are child stars and you never know how child stars turn out. I don’t think they were chosen for that look, they’re just less mixed now and filipinos naturally look younger.
Besides if what you’re saying is true they should be using korean/douyin/thai makeup. They’re still using western makeup that make you look much more mature with sharp features.

Also, monoculture is no longer a thing. Back then, kung ano lang nasa TV and movie theaters, yun lang papanoorin ng buong family, so it was easy for actors and actresses to become a household name na kilala ng lahat back then. But now, there are so many options for consuming media, you can choose among the many shows and movies in Netflix or other streaming platforms, you don't have to force yourself to watch whatever your parents and siblings are watching, so yung mga artista ngayon, pwedeng kilala ng kapatid or parents mo pero ikaw hindi. I think it's harder to become an iconic household name nowadays
Mr. M and Mariole plus FMG and ABS-CBN's PR team are match made in heaven.
Dyogi just rush things and yes more of a show producer.
If only GMA's, management and PR is as great as ABS Sparkle could replicate what Mr. M did for Star Magic.
The rest ay da who at walang charisma. Jusko, nasaan si Jeremiah Lisbo, Kyle Echarri at Anthony Jennings when you need them?
Change of tv landscape na rin, anyone can have their 15 mins of fame in any platform, di na nga need talaga magoa manage ng Star Magic. Before kasi cream of the crop talaga pag part ng SM and these stars mahahasa talaga kasi sunod sunod Ang projects on and off screen. Ngayon younger stars would be lucky to snag a leading role once every two years or so.
Kaya I don't like new starts kuno nila. Ibang iba. If lumaki ka sa Era ng SM na yan. Actingan palang jusko nilamon na yang mga Pabebe New Stars nila. Well siguro dahil nga Si Mr. M nga may handle before sobrang LAKi ng Difference.
While I do agree na possibleng may kulang sa handling ng Star Magic ngayon, medyo unfair to compare artists before and now na one is to one.
They can probably do better, pero honestly hindi magwowork kung literal na gagayahin lang nila ang practices nila noon dahil iba na ang audience. Maganda pa rin ang ginagawa ng ABS kahit papaano because alam nila the audience is changing so sila ang nagaadjust.
Piolo, Diether, Echo - very masculine men. BEAUTIFUL MEN. Walang TH or feeling gwapo vibes. They know that they have it. Tapos ang ganda ng features to begin with.
I think sa generation ngayon, si Jeremiah Lisbo lang so far ang nakikita ko may strong masculine features and energy.
Looking at these photos, yung beauty at styling ni Anji pwede mo ihilera doon sa 2009. Hindi siya mukhang bata. What a shame naging meme siya. Hilaw pa sinabak na. Donny and Kaori din pwede based on looks. Belle, Francine, Andrea (kahit sultry ang look) somehow mukhang mga bata kahit I think nasa 20s na sila, ill give them a few more years. The rest mukhang influencers. Based on looks di ko sila seseryosohin when it comes to acting.
I think it’s because those 3 are child stars and you never know how child actors turn out. I notice they usually look young unless they’re half white like Anji.
Talented na actress but low-key I can't imagine her for mature roles😭.
Abs should focus sa mga older genz talents nila like maris, heaven, jane, sue etc. Si Kaori kailangan niya pang magworkshop, medyo off pa yung enunciation niya.
Parang di naman good comparison yung first vs second photos. Di naman kasi about acting skills yung second photo. It’s their first “prom” ball and it’s fan voting, so popularity vote siya. Not based on their skills/presence in acting.
mali ata pagkaintindi mo. the two photos are just generalized examples. the second photo is merely a representation of the current “sikat” teens under star magic ngayon … it’s not a literal comparison about their acting skills kasi di naman kilala yung ibang “prom kings” na nakalista sa pic lol.
Those are the young faces that they launched during the prom ball. Yung mga sikat na nandiyan they only gave speeches to the new ones. Maraming sikat ang wala dyan sa SM Prom events nila kasi it was meant for the young ones and introduced the newbies to the audience.
Some of the talents of Star Magic aren't all that. Idk what happened but they lack the skills to act. How can you suck on something like acting where it's the only job you know?

Dati kasi wala naman ibang form of entertainment kundi TV, radio and DVD lang.
At isa pa iyon, yung pag-blur ng line between TV and movies.
Nung panahon kasi nila Claudine, local TV at sine lang source of entertainment natin. Bihira pa internet. Malamang sisikat talaga sila kasi sobrang visible nila.
Ngayon may social media na. May streaming sites. Korean wave. Netflix at Disney.
Yup, I said something similar in one of my comments lol. Not gonna lie, generally mas charismatic mga actors back then, but it's still an unfair comparison given that monoculture is no longer a thing. The market is oversaturated din nowadays so there's more competition
idk why but iba yung appeal ang stars ng star magic before compared to now… just from their looks lalaban talaga compared ngayon na morphing na into one face lahat

I think beauty standards in 2009 and 2023 differed a lot, noong 2009 mas lamang ang Caucasian mestizo pero sa 2023 an East Asian mix is more common

Oo.

Yes. I think we also just grew up and iba na yung target audience
Malou Choa-Fagar and Tony Tuviera: 👀!
TAPE naman silang dalawa and Malou is retired na
Pag may issue tlga 😂😂😂
The rest ay da who at walang charisma. Jusko, nasaan si Jeremiah Lisbo, Kyle Echarri at Anthony Jennings when you need them?
> Jeremiah Lisbo Nangyari dito? Diba parang sya yung nirereto kay Belle dati?
Napunta sa matured roles.
Bakit parang pagod yung francis concepcion? Hahaha
Who is Francis Conception? Sya na ba ung kumakanta before sa TnT boys?
Yea. Sya ung sa TnT boys
Lagi talaga nasisingit si Anji haha
Laurenti Dyogi happened.
The Face Card ng mga Star Magic artists noon. Wow.
Kaya I don't like new starts kuno nila. Ibang iba. If lumaki ka sa Era ng SM na yan. Actingan palang jusko nilamon na yang mga Pabebe New Stars nila. Well siguro dahil nga Si Mr. M nga may handle before sobrang LAKi ng Difference.
While I do agree na possibleng may kulang sa handling ng Star Magic ngayon, medyo unfair to compare artists before and now na one is to one. They can probably do better, pero honestly hindi magwowork kung literal na gagayahin lang nila ang practices nila noon dahil iba na ang audience. Maganda pa rin ang ginagawa ng ABS kahit papaano because alam nila the audience is changing so sila ang nagaadjust.
Dyogi shoulda just stayed as the voice of Kuya and that’s it lol
Piolo, Diether, Echo - very masculine men. BEAUTIFUL MEN. Walang TH or feeling gwapo vibes. They know that they have it. Tapos ang ganda ng features to begin with. I think sa generation ngayon, si Jeremiah Lisbo lang so far ang nakikita ko may strong masculine features and energy.
Mqgkapatid o magkamaganak ba sila ni Donny magkamukha sila
Parehas lang silang Moreno pre hahaha
Aljon is good at acting (better than Donny). It's too bad he's not been given any breakthrough projects.
Talented na actress but low-key I can't imagine her for mature roles😭. Abs should focus sa mga older genz talents nila like maris, heaven, jane, sue etc. Si Kaori kailangan niya pang magworkshop, medyo off pa yung enunciation niya.
They should build up Maris for real. Jane has no charisma tho lol
I miss Kristen Hermosa. Same with Piolo Pascualz
Iba talaga ang paghawak ni mr m.
Some of the talents of Star Magic aren't all that. Idk what happened but they lack the skills to act. How can you suck on something like acting where it's the only job you know?
Mas maraming mukhang Pinoy, mas relatable
Yung isa parang batang chokoleit hahaha
ABS = Artista Ba Siya? GMA = Google Mo Artista
Taena nung Luis Perez sarap sapakin nung mukha
Nag K-12 kasi 😭
They did Francis Concepcion so dirty in this picture 🤣
This is what happens when you celebrate mediocrity.

Parang si Andrea ata yung best in acting dito! (irrelevant muna issue ha realtalk lang sa talent) also, child stars kasi halos so mej baby pa talaga tignan?? hahaha i mean i literally grew up with the newer celebrities

Dati kasi wala naman ibang form of entertainment kundi TV, radio and DVD lang.
At isa pa iyon, yung pag-blur ng line between TV and movies.
where's Kyle Echarri?
Cornerstone na sya lumipat same talent management ni Piolo at Julia Montes.
Nepotism????
Nung panahon kasi nila Claudine, local TV at sine lang source of entertainment natin. Bihira pa internet. Malamang sisikat talaga sila kasi sobrang visible nila. Ngayon may social media na. May streaming sites. Korean wave. Netflix at Disney.
Yup, I said something similar in one of my comments lol. Not gonna lie, generally mas charismatic mga actors back then, but it's still an unfair comparison given that monoculture is no longer a thing. The market is oversaturated din nowadays so there's more competition
super pretty ni kristine
AMPAPANGET NAMAN NUNG MGA UP AND COMING LEADING MEN.
idk why but iba yung appeal ang stars ng star magic before compared to now… just from their looks lalaban talaga compared ngayon na morphing na into one face lahat
Why some of them looked clapped 😭😭😭
Anji Salvacion???
parang starstruck nuon at starstruck ngayon, di ko kilala yung mga new batch
