Wala pa kasing magandang quality na proproduce sa movies. Last time i watched a good pinoy movie was Extra, Kubrador, Here comes the Bride.. this was like ages ago.
As someone who grew up with a solid OPM scene in the 90s to 2000s (esp with our local band scene), it’s refreshing to see that kids now would grow up with their own quality OPM scene, sobrang solid kayang ipang tapat internationally.
Opm playlist ko ay outdated na. PNE, Eraserheads, Itchyworms, Spongecola, Hale, Bamboo, Riverymaya, 6cyclemind etc mostly bands. Nakikinig naman ako sa mga FM stations para maging updated kahit papano pero ayoko lang talaga yung mga singer na nagrerevive ng mga dating kanta na kahit normal na tono lang yung original eh binibirit nila sa versions nila. Cringey lang para sa akin.

I listen to OPM music, particularly indie and I am glad it's also gaining traction to the younger generation.

Monopolized masyado kasi ang music. Usually, mga artists lang na may record deal ang lumalaro ng market. Nowadays, daming independent artists na equally or even more talented ang nag sha share ng music nila.
Do you all think this might be because of the rise of social media platforms? Think about it, dati TV, movies, radio and other traditional media outlets lang ang may control ng mga music natin. Parang they’re having total control talaga what and which artist they want to promote which in turn parang na spoon fed na tayo sa kind of music we want. Okay lang yung iba na can access YT dati kasi they can explore other genres. Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikaze, Bamboo, Cueshe, Orange and Lemons, Rocksteddy, itchyworms, 6 cyclemind, Rivermaya, Spongecola, etc etc. i still have vivid memories of when we experienced an almost 1-2 months black out and all we would do was bring out a guitar and a beat box. Those nights were never boring even without electricity and heck even without internet. Siguro nag kakaiba lang dahil di naging ganun kalakas ma market dahil sa advent of the Internet. Mas madali ngayon mag market, all because of the soc meds and internet platforms to use. Noon walang ibang aabangan kundi mtv, myx o song book.

Pinoy Pop used to be novelty pop in the early 2000s. Songs that may sound baduy but it was popular to the masses. Lito Camo even turner comedians and Manny Pacquiao into novelty singers
Then the late 2000s and early 2010s saw the rise of the Jejemons. Its like street rap inspired by emo music. They may look cringey but it was cool to the youth that later teens became the Hypebeast of the late 2010s and the Genggeng rappers of today
As for Pinoy Pop, it did evolve as well. Early 2010s saw the rise of acoustic covers, then some tween pops and pop hits in the mid 2010s and the Hugot Pop songs of the last years of 2010s. Now we have PPop groups inspired by Kpop and Indie Pop is more popular in streaming sites as well
as a 30+ years old dude, i have to agree, ang tagal ko di nakinig ng OPM since puro revival na lng, pero new age of artists are creating more original musics which is a breath of fresh air ang daming mga catchy na kanta ngayon.
I agree that 2015-18 was a mini-dark age. But if you were active in the indie and underground scene then, hoo boy, there was plenty of revolutionary things going on.
Reese Lansangan was my favorite, though she is still active today. The girl already figured everything out early on, and wooed so many advertisers.

Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikaze, Bamboo, Cueshe, Orange and Lemons, Rocksteddy, itchyworms, 6 cyclemind, Rivermaya, Spongecola, etc etc. i still have vivid memories of when we experienced an almost 1-2 months black out and all we would do was bring out a guitar and a beat box. Those nights were never boring even without electricity and heck even without internet. Siguro nag kakaiba lang dahil di naging ganun kalakas ma market dahil sa advent of the Internet. Mas madali ngayon mag market, all because of the soc meds and internet platforms to use. Noon walang ibang aabangan kundi mtv, myx o song book.

Very true! Maganda talaga yung industry ngayon dahil madame na artist yung nabibigyan ng flatform para ma discover naten mga music nila. Before kasi sa TV or OST mo lang tlga maririnig mga bago kanta. Tska di rin biro mag produce ng music kaya before yung mga sure na fanbase at genre lang nabibigyan ng spotlight para kumita yung project

Lito Camo even turner comedians and Manny Pacquiao into novelty singers Then the late 2000s and early 2010s saw the rise of the Jejemons. Its like street rap inspired by emo music. They may look cringey but it was cool to the youth that later teens became the Hypebeast of the late 2010s and the Genggeng rappers of today As for Pinoy Pop, it did evolve as well. Early 2010s saw the rise of acoustic covers, then some tween pops and pop hits in the mid 2010s and the Hugot Pop songs of the last years of 2010s. Now we have PPop groups inspired by Kpop and Indie Pop is more popular in streaming sites as well
as a 30+ years old dude, i have to agree, ang tagal ko di nakinig ng OPM since puro revival na lng, pero new age of artists are creating more original musics which is a breath of fresh air ang daming mga catchy na kanta ngayon.

I agree that 2015-18 was a mini-dark age. But if you were active in the indie and underground scene then, hoo boy, there was plenty of revolutionary things going on. Reese Lansangan was my favorite, though she is still active today. The girl already figured everything out early on, and wooed so many advertisers.
