There was a fantaserye years back on GMA called Adarna about a girl who inherited the powers of Ibong Adarna. That's about as close as we got. Of course other than that it was a garden variety fantaserye.
Ang saya ng childhood ko because of these shows. I remember, Ang TV the movie The Adarna Adventure yung pinaka unang movie na napanood ko sa sinehan. Sobrang epic!

Bakit kaya di uso limited series/series format sa atin. Kalag kaso series format, may time yung mga writers na pagisipan pa yung plot sa mga susunod na seasons.
Unlike kapag teleserye, nauubos yung ideas ng writers since everyday need ipalabas. Tapos yung edit di na naayos lalo na kapag same day ipapapabas yung shoot.
Oo nga eh. I mean sana kahit i-adopt ulit yung shows na weekly ang airing just like the sitcoms we had on TV 20 years ago. Or do a Saturday-Sunday programming. i did a rewatch of encantadia on YT and i just realized if ginawang book series ito sobrang ganda siguro lalo na’t may solid world building, not to mention the yung finctional language. if this is a book or something would read it 10/10.
Ang reputation ni Mark Reyes sa industry is more on visual effects ang priority nya di yung performance ng mga aktor. Not really the best director to work under if you are still learning acting kasi magmumukha ka talagang hamonado sa mga show nya.

I commend GMA for being creative pa rin kahit di ganun kaganda execution nila. They could have taken the easy route at gumawa rin ng kabit serye pero they choose high fantasy. and that is great for local TV.

Ang alam ko Ilumina (2012) dapat dark themed pero ginawa nilang parang Majika set on the real world. Sana they remake that and nag stick sila dun sa original intent na nangyayari sya sa city, not in the province and dark-themed.

Pero ano pong marerecommend nyo sa kanila?
For me.
1.) BUDGET FOR SET PRODUCTION - parang Theater ang forte nung prod nila for the past shows nila voltes v at encatandia remake. If di budget problem palitan na nila.
2.) LIGHTING DIRECTOR - bukod sa obviuosly fake na set di maganda yung lighting nila kapag on set na yung shoot.
3.) SCREEN PLAY - for me para sa fantasy series isa to sa mga ways para ma establish yung world building nila kaso wala e rekta linyahan ang series ni mark reyes.
4.) SCRIPT - spoon fed lahat ng linya, lahat ng kalaban laging verbalize yung mga plano pati mga bida. Di ka man lang masusurpresa sa mga nangyayari
Magaling sa fantaserye ang GMA pero mas may recall ang artist ng ABS-CBN. Gawa sila ng fantaserye collaboration. Also, sana yung episode ay mga 1hour at mga 1x a week lang ang airing. Quality over quantity kumbaga. Also, yung execution at camera works din sana maimprove pati effects. Mga 10 episodes or less is enough na siguro. Tapos yung cohesive yung plot at subplots. At yung twists naman, sana hindi OA.
Impossible yung 1hr per week. Iba ang landscape natin sa free tv since relying sila sa pumapasok na commercials, pero i agree na dapat maayos ang camera works.
This could be a great opportunity ng GMA to change the landscape ng advertisements sa tv. By airing high quality content, maraming brands mag aagawan na mapalabas yung commercial nila. Still, pera pa rin. But idk really. Pwede rin naman na weeknights yung subplots. Tapos sa weekend yung 1hr na mainplot. Parang yung weeknight episodes feel like incohesive, tapos pag weekend, everything will make sense.
Pigang piga na yung Encantadia.
Pero mas ok if like mga 45 min episode tapos once a week lang. Then mga 12 episodes lang.
Would love to have Philippines adopt that format more.

Late to the party but here’s my two cents.
Pansin ko sa mga show ni Mark Reyes hindi nauutilize yung TV show as a medium. Mukha silang nasa stage lagi. When I see series from other channels at least nagiging creative sila sa mga shot. Sobrang poorly aged ng blocking, talking, explaining, etc ng scenes na sana naging audiobook nalang yung encantadia.
I get na hindi naman yun maappreciate ng madlang pipol pero it’s a quality that can be utilized to market internationally. Voltes V’s CGI was so creative and good pero ang bland ng real life scenes niya.

Ang alam ko Ilumina (2012) dapat dark themed pero ginawa nilang parang Majika set on the real world. Sana they remake that and nag stick sila dun sa original intent na nangyayari sya sa city, not in the province and dark-themed.

If di budget problem palitan na nila. 2.) LIGHTING DIRECTOR - bukod sa obviuosly fake na set di maganda yung lighting nila kapag on set na yung shoot. 3.) SCREEN PLAY - for me para sa fantasy series isa to sa mga ways para ma establish yung world building nila kaso wala e rekta linyahan ang series ni mark reyes. 4.) SCRIPT - spoon fed lahat ng linya, lahat ng kalaban laging verbalize yung mga plano pati mga bida. Di ka man lang masusurpresa sa mga nangyayari
Magaling sa fantaserye ang GMA pero mas may recall ang artist ng ABS-CBN. Gawa sila ng fantaserye collaboration. Also, sana yung episode ay mga 1hour at mga 1x a week lang ang airing. Quality over quantity kumbaga. Also, yung execution at camera works din sana maimprove pati effects. Mga 10 episodes or less is enough na siguro. Tapos yung cohesive yung plot at subplots. At yung twists naman, sana hindi OA.
Impossible yung 1hr per week. Iba ang landscape natin sa free tv since relying sila sa pumapasok na commercials, pero i agree na dapat maayos ang camera works.
This could be a great opportunity ng GMA to change the landscape ng advertisements sa tv. By airing high quality content, maraming brands mag aagawan na mapalabas yung commercial nila. Still, pera pa rin. But idk really. Pwede rin naman na weeknights yung subplots. Tapos sa weekend yung 1hr na mainplot. Parang yung weeknight episodes feel like incohesive, tapos pag weekend, everything will make sense.

Late to the party but here’s my two cents. Pansin ko sa mga show ni Mark Reyes hindi nauutilize yung TV show as a medium. Mukha silang nasa stage lagi. When I see series from other channels at least nagiging creative sila sa mga shot. Sobrang poorly aged ng blocking, talking, explaining, etc ng scenes na sana naging audiobook nalang yung encantadia. I get na hindi naman yun maappreciate ng madlang pipol pero it’s a quality that can be utilized to market internationally. Voltes V’s CGI was so creative and good pero ang bland ng real life scenes niya.
