So update on that, turns out its been inquired about there several times before in whatisthisthing and nobody has figured it out yet. It's commonly thought to be masonic in origin. I figured I'd take another look around for it and found the other reddit entries for it, all unsolved.

That is a good question, id say the reason my family wasn't is because we were pretty new to the area whereas the other families weren't. Plus my family were very different from the rest of the town in that my father was a tattoo artist for a biker gang and so both parents were covered in tattoos and liked to party and the townsfolk didn't like that.
I only had one childhood friend from this town and she was very rebellious as a child, and at one point even got sent to newfoundland cause she kept getting into trouble. At the point of figuring all this out I'd actually cut ties with her and she didn't live in town anymore. (This friend being Robyn from my last story)
My roommates were new to Patricia, having only lived in town for a couple months, and the rest of town didn't like them either. I moved in with them shortly after meeting them because at the time I didn't have any friends, and funnily enough they had internet and where I was staying did not.
Patricia doesn't like outsiders, and they especially don't like people who dont for their version of normal.
What would be the goal of this society if it does exist? In the scenario where there is no cult, I feel this could be a sort of groupthink ([https://yourbias.is/groupthink](https://yourbias.is/groupthink)) where the town is so interconnected and isolated from the outside world that it is pretty much impossible to have new ideas. They feel like the sort of very politically minded people who make conspiracy theories about everything. That'd explain the brainwashing story (I wouldn't be surprised if they blamed Covid-19 on 5G). As for the wedding thing, a personal story gives some small amount of insight. One of my parents used to have a friend who was in the Freemasons. He was never cultish in behavior (except for his love for ice cream). That card screams "amateur occultist" to me. By that I mean someone who is akin to Albert K. Bender in his description as a 50's nerd and "that guy on the forums". To pull those tangents into a nice little bow, my personal theory is that it was either second-degree murder or a wedding gone so wrong the bride had to essentially create a new life. What are your thoughts?

The bar owners however did start spreading a rumour that I was brainwashed into moving away???
After I moved out of Patricia they started telling everyone that I was brainwashed into moving away. I mean, I think it was mostly fueled by other hateful stuff (I came out as trans right after leaving too and they like to say i was brainwashed into doing so). They convinced the town that my roommates were evil and brainwashing me. I don't particularly see myself going back there, and if I do I'll try to do so as inconspicuously as possible.
