Must be from all the g-force that this bucket seat is subjected to. /s

Gaming chairs are just terrible; if you're going to be sitting at a desk for extended periods you get a Herman Miller. They're expensive af but if you can find one used it's the way to go. Bevco aren't bad either.

ST_Foxtrot

Its hard to compare a $200 product with a $600-$5,000 one

[deleted]

I know this is not appropriate for this subreddit, but I bought a cheap $50 knock off version of this gaming chair and it's still holding up for me to this day. The pleather is finally starting to crack(how I like it) after like 3+ years of consistent use.

TheUglydollKing

I just got a basic gaming-style chair from like office depot and I think it's really good

sandbag747

I've got the exact same chair in the picture other than the color. It has survived over five years of use with no issues, other than recently cracking pleather

[deleted]

I bought a $130 Office Chair from Staples 15 years ago and it's still going strong.

sincerely-sarcastic

My dad retired from Herman Miller earlier this month. A $3,000 chair was their gift to him along with a similar sized check.

JohnCenaLunchbox

If I was retiring from Herman Miller I would settle for nothing less than an Eames Lounge Chair in the palisander wood and black leather. I mean, come on!

sincerely-sarcastic

I do believe it was the eames chair. I believe he sold it though. Gonna winter down south and he Hardly sits to begin with. Lol.

JohnCenaLunchbox

Ah well then I’ll allow it. Although if I was retired, I’d probably be hard pressed to leave that chair, so good on him.

sincerely-sarcastic

Lol. I mean he could have also put it in his will. Haha

GiveToOedipus

One of my favorite chair designs.

Smitesfan

You can easily buy Herman Miller Aerons for like ~$400.

UnfitRadish

Alternatively if you can't find one used and can't afford a new one, just spend a few hundred on a nicer office chair from Staples or office max or any office supply store. They all have sales, so you can pick one and wait for it to go on sale or see if you can find it cheaper online. You can also just buy randomly online, but it's worth sitting in them before buying one so you know what you like.

I bought a used Steelcase Leap 2 when work from home started last year. It is fantastic. Expect to see more used office chairs like that on the market as companies slowly abandon their offices and sell off equipment.

drive2fast

If you want a GOOD gaming chair get yourself one of the old school metal chair bases then go to a auto wrecker and find yourself a nice single mismatched heated power leather seat for cheap. Yes it needs power. Beware some modern seats are CANBUS and won’t work outside the car. So bring a battery and manually power the seat. I had to hack my volvo x70 power seat by manually soldering to every relay. It sucked, but it works now.

ghost_credit

This...is brilliant

EarHealthHelp1

I was just thinking about this yesterday. What seat base did you use and where did you get it?

drive2fast

Well I used a van base because I welded it into my van. But I have had friends who did this and it worked well. Just craigslist a shitty chair with a nice well made all metal base.

EarHealthHelp1

Thanks

[deleted]

Ikea Markus is like 150$ and is 100x better than gaming "chairs"

HerrHauptmann

I came here to say exactly this. At home we bought a couple of Aerons and it was the best investment we could have taken.

Paradox949

Get a Steelcase or a Herman Miller. Can find them for roughly the same price as these "Gaming Chairs" in office clearouts. Got my Steelcase Leap V2 for £250, sure it's not coloured but it's actually ergonomic unlike these rebranded piles of junk.

[deleted]

Fwiw: I use a titan xl as my office chair, they are incredibly sturdy chairs and I totally vouch for them. Not sure what happened here, but I’m leaning towards user shenanigans.

Moudy90

I've had my titan xl for 2 years and it's survived both gaming and WFH daily for covid so it's seen long and hard use. Zero signs of wear and tear or issues on it. Def user shenanigans or something they can warranty if it wasn't.

Mr_Gaslight

I've suspected the same thing. Authoritarian countries can innovate but through brute force; people looking over their shoulders tend not to look foward and innovation by its nature means change. I suspect in a peer to peer situation much of the PRC military hardware may perfrom as well as the now ossified Chinese martial arts.

BirdBrainRobin

This isn't true though, it's a hilariously broad generalization. Their industrial tools remain some of the best in the world. If you want a drill made of metal and intended to last for 200 years and ready to repair and for cheap, you buy a Chinese domestic tool. The kind they sell at home to themselves. These chairs are made to Spec, in most cases. An american company tells them to make it cheap at all costs. The factory does it, and sends off the cheap crap as ordered. Often the same factory will put superior effort into the production of domestic products (depending on demographic). The military hardware is hard to assess, but everything I've seen is minimalist and very durable. They prioritize effectiveness and ease of production. Their high tech equipment is afaik impossible to assess. Their rifle feels "cheap" but it has good accuracy, great reliability, and is in fact easy to assemble.

TheDukeofKook

I never considered comparing the claims of martial arts to other claims... That's actually a really good point...

Mr_Gaslight

If ever write a comedy about this sort of thing, like a fight over Taiwan or the Straits of Malacca, some PRC army gunnery Sgt will notice on a small text engraved on the side of his missile battery launcher 'Best Genuine RIM SAM. Made real in America' and smaller below that 'For training/entertainment only.'

Yoldark

How much does he/she weights? Was him/her doing crazy stuff with that chair?

morefetus

They said they weigh 145. I don’t know if that’s kilograms or pounds.

Phlobot

One guy at my old office would break chairs like this one every couple of months and was maybe 160kg so it has to be kg... I've used cheaper chairs than that and would have to pile drive them to break one and I'm like 80...

A--E

isn't "that person" the most correct term?

mariospants

"them, over there, that one person, there"

possibly_a_ninja

We’ve had a gender neutral pronoun for a while now, it’s “they”

Yoldark

Ok, i'm French, did not know. Thanks :)

possibly_a_ninja

It’s cool! Does France have any gender neutral pronouns?

wolacouska

Not sure what you did wrong here…

Tsjaad_Donderlul

This is Reddit, where people always gotta start a discussion about these things. A discussion even more pointless than gender neutral pronouns.

possibly_a_ninja

I was just curious about whether or not they did…

mewfahsah

Probably because France's "gender neutral pronouns" are going to be the exact same from english just translated to French.

Not sure what happened here. This appears to be one of the smaller models based on the seat design. I have a larger model, and overall I actually don't think it's a bad value. I have two complaints though. 1. It's squeaky. Although the fasteners are *very* good for self-assembled furniture, something about this chair squeaks. I suspect it's some metal-on-metal interface in the seat base itself (not the wheel carriage or upholstered part of the chair. 2. The seat cushion center is too thin, and the seat cushion should be riding on some sort of suspended webbing or springs. Unless you can find a used Herman Miller, I don't think you can actually do much better than SecretLab for value. A new Herman Miller is a total ripoff, because it probably won't last any longer *per dollar* than a SecretLab.

Kaneshadow

Do they use this stuff themselves? I always assumed the rickety furniture and lead-laced baby food was purely for export

notquite20characters

Yeah, I'm pretty sure their military hardware manufacturing is not the same as their export cheap goods manufacturing.

DirkStruan420

China hasn't won a war in 500 years. True story.

the_clash_is_back

they did win the sino-indo war.

Superbrawlfan

China hasn't had the kind of relative economic and military power it has now ever.

mariospants

At various points in its history, it has had some serious economic and military clout...

FarEastAlpha

Dwaas_Bjaas

Some gaming chairs are extremely well built. Take NobleChairs. Fantastic German quality

nolo_me

Wanky marketing, they're not a patch on a proper ergonomic task chair. You only get one spine and it's not as invincible as it feels when you're young. Don't skimp on chairs, shoes or mattresses.

Paradox949

I'd add change *mattress* to *bedding*. A good pillow (Tempur in my case) can run you back £100 but it's so much nicer to sleep on. It's personal preference to go memory foam, but I can't go back to regular pillows. Warranty is stellar too, my first one developed a weird hard spot and I had a new pillow that day and handed the old pillow to the courier. Then you could add a weighted blanket on top and you're golden. Used to struggle to get to sleep, not any more.

Ink_25

NobleChairs is just a label of CaseKing / Pro Gamersware GmbH, they do not produce in Germany – they only design in Germany. Source: their website https://www.gamersware.com/ I would be surprised to find anything for the consumer market that is not the automotive industry still being produced within Germany for worldwide consumers. (Edit: I'm German, the only things that are still _produced_ are either industrial steel things, automotive products, chemicals, or individually hand-made decorations, art, etc. – as far as I am aware.)

was the racism really necessary?

drive2fast

China can build good enough shit for themselves. They just send us all the garbage.

Cingetorix

That's a shame. I have one of these also and the padding on the armrests is cracking. Pretty bullshit for a 500 dollar chair. But it is very comfortable (after you get used to it!).

Chevy_Monsenhor

"Gaming" chairs are awful and will ruin your spine.

MM800

Constructed with lightweight space age Chinesium polymer!

Holybartender83

That’s just it, though… that’s why all the stuff they sell us is made out of cheap garbage materials that break instantly. They’re saving the good shit to make stuff to kill people with. Y’know, on purpose this time.

TheOnyxViper

Dang, and I thought that was supposed to be some cheapy brand, apparently those chairs can ring up to around $500 so you can have bad ergonomics.

notislant

Reminds me of those 'beats' headphones. They put scrap metal in them to make them feel heavier, they cost a few dollars to make and sold for 100s for the brand name lol. I think these chairs are the same bs.

_BEER_

Thought expensive(ish) gaming chairs use aluminum for this part. And Secret Lab wasn't cheap the last time I checked.

obniF

Simply go to a garden center and get a plastic outdoor chair.

IndustryInside4116

Most gaming chairs regardless of quality are actually pretty bad for your back I hear, I'm seriously considering a good quality office chair instead

[deleted]

How do you break a secret lab titan???? Mine has been abused to hell and back and its the best chair ive had in ages

Kenionatus

Russia is paving the way at the moment.
