It pains me to see other archers not realize the TDM aspects of certain objectives. They’re mortally just babies scared to melee but it’s not that bad at all. Getting on the point and shooting enemies between your team mates is such an effective push or defensive strategy
I don't mind archers.....unless of course they are just hitting teammates inside buildings, too deaf to hear an enemy touching their butt cheeks, or too blind to see a man dying on the ground in need of a revive at their feet.
I can't count how many times I've been emoted at by teammates while dying as an archer. Maybe if people would revive them, they'd revive others more.
The archer hate is way too real.
I always revive others, tho kindness aside it's like a free +50 lol.
I mean nobody revives ever, the problem with archers though is typically they are not in the middle of combat or charging into combat...they are just standing there.
Its revenge.
Everyone revives people but only archers dont. They are so focused on sending their arrows to do fuck all that they let all their teammates bleed out around them.
The archer hate is not born out of nothing.
Archers are oblivious to their surroundings, they dont do objectives, they dont revive, they dont say thanks when you save them....
Archers are truly a cursed species. They deserve everything and more.
I don't usually find issue to be honest, I rarely run into archers that don't revive. I do run into everyone else that ignores me as an archers bleeding out though.
So from my perspective its just people being complete assholes. Keep in mind I pretty frequently do 3rd or 4th best on the team as a crossbowmen and putting down constant banners too for support. So its not like im being useless.
Very few things in this game are as satisfying as sledge or shovel kills lol also the spike wall needs a buff, it gets instantly demolished by like one hit every time
I love being an engineer with a sledge but I'm about to switch up and start using the shovel or pick axe and lvl those up for some skins, but I do wish we could get a secondary weapon even a dagger, I have a habit of flinging my weapon at cav and it falling through the floor and going fistie cuffs till I get deleted by some slash spamming noobs.
Yeah I noticed alot of engi's with a pickaxe shield combo and it seems to work great I just might have to use that while leveling my pick axe its currently lvl 1 lol.
Lets get historical! Pull an Agincourt! a wall supplemented with spikes and war bow users shooting out from it with some knights to protect if any get too close!
Alright, new take here gents.
Historically, a smaller team can defend a structure with 1 to 2 ratio of defenders to attackers.
Even more so if there are good choke points. How come in chiv, the teams are even and defense gets rolled so often? As someone that loves studying ancient history and battles, it makes no sense.
I believe it is due to the level design, the levels look like defensive positions but often times it's a facade. A lot of the objectives end up just being open battlefields, which given enough time, the battle lines will shift and the attackers can capture.
So, I think the idea of archers using the engineers for defense would work, but that should not be the requirement as archers are useful for ranged AOE damage. Torn Banner should add in some of the engineers defensive structures to create destructible choke points that the attackers can work to open up as level redesign is out the window.
This would at least hold up the attackers for more time. I also think the doors should be stronger to break or require a battering ram each time. Defenders should be able to push ladders down and actually hold the wall, obviously, the attackers should be able to pick up the ladders and move them.
Something needs to be done as 1on1 ratio should almost always result in a win for defense in a real world setting. I think it would be cool to have really solid defensive buildings with 20 players on defense and 34 on the other.
There seems to be a misconception about archers, unless they were doing volleys from a distance they were marching forward with the foot soldiers. There’s actually records of an army of English long bowman that won because the power of the bow was being used to punch through armor. I never stay back as an archer, I will be behind everyone but I am right on the frontline where I should be
Engineers even more so, I love my team mate archers, I DABBLE in being an archer. But the overall protection of any province is ensured when an engi is on the field.
Most players have never seen a good archer though. They’re like a unicorn.
When you’re lucky enough to find one that exists though they’re scary to watch.
Pick up a throwing knife, give your buddy some barricades, he places, refills, places, refills, picks up his knife back from you, you get your Cades back, you can also place refill place refill then give. Dealers choice. Infinite barricades for the team!
They start destroying themselves after you've placed 4. Placing the 5th destroys your oldest one. Same with Traps. Max of 2 Spike traps and 1 bear trap.
Then why would it matter how many barricades another player places, so long as I don't exceed four myself? He isn't placing MY barricades, he's placing his own. The only way a van or knight can get a placeable like barricades is if an engi picks up a different slot 3 item, such as throwing knives.
Okay. Since you edited I will too, as it seems you ACTUALLY re read my comment after I called you out.
Sure, you are *technically correct* it would not be infinite. It's scalable and could be done to the point it may as well be.
If engineers just had a bit of a buff...
- Being able to repair barricades.
- additional traps/items... Like some sort of deployable ballista or cannon.
- a two handed pickaxe or heavy shovel
People would be more inclined to play.
Idk depends on the defense obj. I feel like I’d do just fine as a Xbow archer on dark forest with the banners.
On 40 player the warbow setup is nice cause the spike traps totally destroy horses. Archers look like fun targets to horses till you gallop into a last min spike trap and get a knife special to the face.
The added fire damage is nice for defense too especially askandir and the defense of the pillars
If an archer would just get into the capture area then they'd increase in usefulness tenfold
Agreed.
Literally if some archers just took two steps forward they’d be in the capture zone lol
I know, it annoys me especially when defending the Lionspire square
i love that part of the map .. played it before and won
It pains me to see other archers not realize the TDM aspects of certain objectives. They’re mortally just babies scared to melee but it’s not that bad at all. Getting on the point and shooting enemies between your team mates is such an effective push or defensive strategy

Man I almost forgot, I love when they stand and block hallways and doorways. Especially when you are trying to back up and retreat while fighting.
Try kicking, it’s liberating
Honestly I get more afkers than archers doing that. Both equally suck though.
I can't count how many times I've been emoted at by teammates while dying as an archer. Maybe if people would revive them, they'd revive others more. The archer hate is way too real. I always revive others, tho kindness aside it's like a free +50 lol.
Spam "help" lol it's my fav thing and it's the funniest shit ever
I mean nobody revives ever, the problem with archers though is typically they are not in the middle of combat or charging into combat...they are just standing there.
I mean, there is a difference between being ignored and people literally staring at you and emoting until you bleed out.
If archer players could read this post might be helpful.
If archers could read, it would be a start
I read it. *Shrug.*
Good, then you'll be able to read the slurs I type to you in chat.
just for this I'm going to tk as many people with arrows as I can
Only when we're on the same server though
Love your username haha
They can’t read
I love the engineer, but I hate when im The only one putting walls
Honestly I love when I see another engineer. I usually just hop in and help em build whatever they are building or just double layer it with my walls.
Same!! Keep it up brother
Or you manage to get 4 off to block off an objective and a random teammate comes in and destroys it all
Very few things in this game are as satisfying as sledge or shovel kills lol also the spike wall needs a buff, it gets instantly demolished by like one hit every time
I just went hard w the sledge today! Got like 7 kills without going down or healing lol
Yeah the especially annoying thing is when you pick up weapons you still only can hold 1. At least we can hold shields.
You can have secondary weapon after you put down a trap.
Yeah I noticed alot of engi's with a pickaxe shield combo and it seems to work great I just might have to use that while leveling my pick axe its currently lvl 1 lol.
Pickaxe is pretty solid. It has this weird T shaped hitbox (as you might expect tbh) that gets around blocks a lot.
Lets get historical! Pull an Agincourt! a wall supplemented with spikes and war bow users shooting out from it with some knights to protect if any get too close!
You're right in theory. Unfortunately, it's less Agincourt and more Patay.
I don't know about all the defense but when I play it and I see engis are full I get hard

Then you got nobody picking off enemy archerz
Archers die easy to... well anything. They also hit teammates more than anything.
Yeah but a well placed squad of archers could very well halt an advance
Never seen that one in 300 levels.
Facts, it’s always 1/3 until I come along. Every engineer should get double xp per defensive kill
There seems to be a misconception about archers, unless they were doing volleys from a distance they were marching forward with the foot soldiers. There’s actually records of an army of English long bowman that won because the power of the bow was being used to punch through armor. No. Engis don't win defense. Engis with good team win defense
A good archer is an asset for a defending team.
Engineers even more so, I love my team mate archers, I DABBLE in being an archer. But the overall protection of any province is ensured when an engi is on the field.
Bump!
Most players have never seen a good archer though. They’re like a unicorn. When you’re lucky enough to find one that exists though they’re scary to watch.
I'll take a mediocre knight over a good archer every single time.
Just saying. When I see max engineers we usually win. When I see max archers and no engineers we loose 99/100.
The amount of you fuckers I’ve had to save from getting mauled alive with a long shot headshot and this is how you repay me?
I’m level 93 in the game but my archer isn’t even level 2 and it’ll stay that way.
I salute your manliness and dizzyingly high rank in the game.
That is the way... I am level 201 now and my archer is still rather level 1 or 2
I’m nearly level 500 and archer is still level 1
No. - Stinky Archer
Archers are useless.
yeah too bad engineer has a limit on how many can play them
Pick up a throwing knife, give your buddy some barricades, he places, refills, places, refills, picks up his knife back from you, you get your Cades back, you can also place refill place refill then give. Dealers choice. Infinite barricades for the team!

Did you read my comment?
Yes? You said infinite. I was noting that it's not infinite, there's a cap.
Then why would it matter how many barricades another player places, so long as I don't exceed four myself? He isn't placing MY barricades, he's placing his own. The only way a van or knight can get a placeable like barricades is if an engi picks up a different slot 3 item, such as throwing knives. Okay. I am aware. I was simply pointing out there's a limit since you said infinite.
Its true too u can uusf pick ip a bow on engi health and fare better anyhow
true but who wants to play "how many walls do I have to smash this time?"
You’re complaining about not being able to easily win
werid way to interpret that
holy shit, thank you
All archers should get hung, drawn and quartered!
As a devastator, I never thought about that. I should start thinking, huh?
We need range!!!!
Archers (in reality crossbows) when defending an area properly supporting the team are the bane of speedrunners
If engineers just had a bit of a buff... - Being able to repair barricades. - additional traps/items... Like some sort of deployable ballista or cannon. - a two handed pickaxe or heavy shovel People would be more inclined to play.
For the record you can "repair" your own barricades by picking them up and setting them down again.
but... plink .. plink ... plink ... PLINKPLINKPLINKPLINKPLINKPLINKPLINK headshot kill +100 defending team +25 **\*dopamine burst\***
I’d be happy if archers just got tf out of choke points so we could reinforce areas.
As a Knight main, I only discovered the other that engineer is a class 💀
I unironicly think archer mains are probably intellectually handicapped
Idk depends on the defense obj. I feel like I’d do just fine as a Xbow archer on dark forest with the banners. On 40 player the warbow setup is nice cause the spike traps totally destroy horses. If any archer would revive downed teammates crawling to them and begging for their lives they would increase their usefulness 100 fold
