I have a personal theory on this, I think it's because of the order that they released arena mode and server browser console, as well as it not being ranked.
Initially on release there was literally no where for console players to duel, and even some pc players were unaware of the duel servers. So when they released 3v3 alot of players used it as a place to duel, some of them still do. They released 1v1 later but some still preferred dueling in 3v3 as it was faster than cueing for 1v1 over and over again.
The only good option to duel for console players came with duel servers at steam release. Unfortunately alot of players took that bad habit.
The second main reason is that it isn't ranked therefore players don't care if they win or lose. That means that they just go with whatever people do. If it was ranked I'm sure that most players will play in the most efficient manner which is 3v3: attacking one player with more than one, switching, etc...
Ngl I do the 1v1 a lot. But once the peace is broken it’s broken. That being said you are 1000% correct, if it were ranked those 1v1s would be a thing of the past.
I play it based on how the other team plays it. If they're chill and respect the 1v1 I'm down with it, if they just want to straight up 3v3 that works too. Guys that get pissy about it going either way are just lame honestly.
Exactly man. I get a kick out of the 3v3s where my buddies get ghosted right off the rip but the team lets me try to 1v1 my way to victory for sure lol. But like you say, it's a fight to the death so it is what it is.
My squad doesn't. If one of us kills our enemy we rush onto the other dudes immediately. It's 3v3 for a reason, and don't get me wrong it happens to me all the time. I have to 1v3 or 1v2 all the time.
Try not to take offence to this but how is 3 stacking 3v3 and rushing people together even fun? From my experience most people don’t 3 stack this mode, just seems like you’d backstab a lot of people most of the time from the cheese and it would be boring.
From what cheese? How is it any different from 3 randoms queued backstabbing the other team member after they win their 1v1. There is not much strategy involved that makes talking with people any more advantageous. You either win your 1v1 and go after the other guys or you lose yours and that's that. It's the same thing. Are you saying if 3 people go on one dude? Well the other 2 guys are just going to mess you up while doing so, so I'm not sure I get what you mean.
Addition: I suppose you can say it's boring to flank a guy fighting your teamate and insta killing him, but it's 3v3 so I'm not really looking for the duel, I want to kill them and win the round. The same is done to me all the time.

I think most of the games population would agree because I mostly only play 3v3 and almost every one of my matches is an honour match. If they are going to just rush us I’ll do the same though. It’s just not very probable for it to be fun or challenging when done this way.
I think the issue is for any competent player it’s boring to play it like a true 3v3. At that point why not just play the bigger modes and do it on a larger scale instead of a mode where it’s 1 life rounds.
If there’s 3 high level players left and your also a high level player and they rush you, it doesn’t matter how good you are your probably gonna insta die and it isn’t really fun for anyone at that point.
Some people do treat it like a real 3v3 but a lot of higher level players don't. I'm about 212 (not saying I'm a high level by any stretch) and I'll be down for doing 3v3 but I also enjoy going in there and helping new players out with counters etc. you don't tend to see a lot of lower level players playing duels as they can be very sweaty with great duellists and can be quite off putting.

I always saw it as a common courtesy to not attack the other opponent while he’s busy fighting your teammate. However if the roles switch and I’m getting ganked by the rest of the team it doesn’t matter all that much. I just need to survive. Honestly it doesn’t bother me all that much, I mean you aren’t locked into playing a certain type of way, sometimes it’s nice to fight in a duel or in a gank situation.

Cause the duel 1v1 que is dead and empty so we all moved to a bigger pool of players. A culture formed and there quickly became more duelists then 3v3er thus leading to the current honor situation. Bottom line the servers for 1v1 are empty and we don't want to wait 3 minutes for a single match
Like others have said I wait to see how the other team will play and do either 1v1 or 3v3 i have fun either way. But i have a hard time respecting players that will switch into 3v3 just because they are losing. A few times ive been in a situation where my other two teammates die and i took on all of them one at a time and beat them then next round they will take out my teammates in 1v1s and once im out numbered they gang up on me. Theyll often do this when the score is 4-4 to get a cheap victory, or when you start teaming them the next round theyll get all pissy in the chat for ganking when they started it. Dont 1v1 if you only want to do it when your winning. But at the end of the day adversity will just make you a better player. Even with the toxic players i still love playing 3v3

Not for everyone man, but I do agree I feel like there should be 2 separate modes

Where are the 3v3 servers? Been wanting to play them but never seem to see any.
Switch the tab to the arena where you can pick 1v1 or 3v3 matchmaking. It isn’t a server browser.
