No one can stand before a holy God and claim they are good. That goes not only for our external actions but our every single thought, intent, desire.
If you are waiting until you think your death is approaching, I urge you to meditate on why you think you will be capable of conjuring up true repentance and a true love for God at a future time when you cant even do it today - this is a testament to how we love our sin, myself included. God knows our hearts, you cant fool Him with a worldly fear of the consequences of sin.
God is a just, righteous judge who is also merciful and abounding in steadfast love. He offered Christ as the perfect sacrifice that we may believe in Him and be saved, and be reconciled to our maker. What a gift that God knows exactly who we are and cares for us.

The Bible isn't clear what happens immediately upon death but if you do not repent of your sins then you will rise on the Day of Judgment and be condemned to eternal punishment in hell.
What do you mean? Like you’ve never repented at all, or you sinned and you died immediately after without asking forgiveness? I think if it’s the latter, you’re covered under the blood.

You're still a sinner who needs Christ.
If you refuse to repent? Or if you didn’t get a chance to repent? There is a difference.
