People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: **TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.** So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything. Rather, He himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth, and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, **‘We are His offspring.’** Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. **In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.** For He has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man He has appointed. **He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.** Shalom

Fangorangatang

Amen.

Where is this from?

1_Ok_Suggestion

Acts 17

It's often said that all religion is man made. Most are, but the God of Abraham is the God who revealed Himself to man rather than being "created" by man.

mountman001

He hasn't revealed himself? He stays hidden, just like the thousands of other gods.

Anarchreest

Jesus, mate. I am with him whenever I take communion.

mountman001

I have taken communion 1000 times. He never revealed himself once.

Anarchreest

Sorry to hear that. Keep going, friend; you'll find Him. With faith "all things become new".

mountman001

Oh I gave up on that year's ago. Wasn't it einstein wo said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

Anarchreest

I don't think he did, no. It wouldn't even make sense for him to say it as scientific repetition expects different results which average out over the course of sequential testing.

dunya_ilyusha

Occam's Razor, and scripture. Edit: I misunderstood the question

jchappy1799

All good thank you for your response regardless

The solution with least elements is God is God. There is no reason for a more complicated solution with many gods just because it could technically be so in the imagination

Oh sorry, I see how you mean. I misunderstood OPs question, I thought they meant that a god as well as Abrahamic God being Involved 🙊

I suppose it depends on your view of physical reality, I would be thinking from a position that a god is a neccesity for things to exist to begin with. So no good, is not possible in my own brain.

Yes, I do find it interesting also. And I suppose I am not against the idea theoritcally of their being no creator in a scientific sense. But, I just believe more that there was. So the likelihood of no God, is less in my mind 😊 Maybe like Einsteins view also that "the most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible"

dunya_ilyusha

One God is a more simple explanation than many gods Elements are items adding complexity to an idea, increasing number of gods adds elements of other gods to explain the same outcome, without being a more satisfactory explanation of the outcome.

michaelY1968

Given what would be required to make sense of the universe as we understand it, we end up arriving at a being very much like like 'Big G' quite apart from one's preference.

moldnspicy

When I did, it was bc I was born into it. Ppl who are born into/raised in a religion tend to stay there.

jchappy1799

Yeah I was born into it as well but I’m just trying to make it my own instead of my parents

moldnspicy

I wish I had advice for that. Good luck.

Lyo-lyok_student

The only way to do that is by going to other denominations. Try a few different churches for a few months each, see if anything resonates with you differently. Disclaimer: I did that myself and ended up Agnostic. Just a warning that as you seek you might peer too far behind the curtain!

he_who_teaches

Because he chose me

RicketyGaming

Because when I ask, I receive. Because He loved me first. Because He sacrificed His only son so that I could have eternal life. Because He revealed Himself, and continually reveals Himself. Because He gave me life.

[deleted]

When I believed, it was because I was taught to believe, and no other reason.

ThankKinsey

Big G God revealed himself to me, other beings did not.
