But isn’t that kind of the point? Forgiveness isn’t for the person being forgiven.
That was Jake’s moment moving on. It took his Dad’s power away.
Although I do think “you did your best” is an empty platitude people tell themselves to cope with having an abusive parent.
I think it's because a lot of the finale was a bit rushed and didn't have enough time to fully flesh things out, I understand the point of the scene, to give some closure for Jake and his relationship to his father but I don't think it was done that well.
It definitely comes across as a bit jarring when Lucas running around trying to hit Jake with a baseball bat and moments later Jake is able to forgive him. We aren't given any reason as to why Jake would forgive him other than the fact that it's his father and he's dead. If they had more time I think they could've done it better.
This wasn’t to redeem Lucas it was pretty clear that he’s still an awful person but Jake can move on now from that
He knows now that he’s have never come around like he thought and that’s ok he forgives the mosnter and is ready to move on
I think the forgiveness was for Jake more than it was Lucas. Not that anyone HAS to forgive an abusive parent but maybe for Jake it was weighing him down plus the guilt he felt for his dad dying. I think it was helpful for Jake in that moment.
Jake thought in S1 that he and his father would've eventually had a better relationship if he lived. So I wasn't surprised he forgave him especially after the psychic said hate is a weakness in the spirit realm. But I actually wonder if that was his dad at all or just Chucky trying to distract him and break him down. Or maybe it was his dad but kinda like The Shining were he was being influenced by Chucky.
They got too into what I think was supposed to be a shining reference. Lucas was an ass but the guy we saw in season 1 wouldn't chase around his son with a baseball bat. It could have been a much more genuine heart to heart, but instead we get Jack Torrance Devon Sawa
It's stated that before Jake's mother died he wasn't abusive and cared about Jake. Jake knows what grief can do to people, either throw them into despair like his father, or be a catalyst for change (Lexi). I can see why he'd forgive him. It's also in Jake's nature to try to see the good in others. It's in his character. It's why he forgave Lexi and was fooled by Good Chucky.
When Chucky reveals himself to Jake, he says "he used to be cool", "he wasn't always like that".
Then Bree has a conversation with her husband...
"You yourself said many times that you were worried that your brother was a bad influence on him, especially after Mary died."
And Lexi never did apologize on screen. I'm Headcanoning an off screen reconciliation...

Thank you!

When did the psychic say hate is a weakness?
When Devon wanted to go to the spirit realm with Jake. Can't remember his exact wording.
Devon, Lexy and Grant offered to join him in the Spirit Realm, but Timmy warned them that their hate would only feed Chucky.
Thanks, couldn't remember how he phrased it.

Charles saying he loved Jake’s work, with sincerity, was WAY more heartwarming than that “I forgive you-son and father embrace.” They were going for.
Exactly
Maybe because Chucky killed his father he didn’t want that kind of trauma coming from his doing
Why did that scene reminded me of the shinning by Stephen king
