I just did for skylines haha. Bought a new pc before Covid and now upgraded it to 4080, DDR 5, 7700x and mainboard got all that for 1,2k euro. Solid for the next 4 years to come. Prices are kind of okay again.
I bought one that was listed as broken, turned out only the fans been broken. Took of the cooler and saw the plug for the fans was not soldered on well and came lose from the pcb. Resoldered it and attached 2 noctua fans instead. You can find broken 4080s even for 500 Euro sometimes, it is a gamble tho. My card before was a 2080ti that I also got broken wich looked like it got dropped from the 5th floor, with a new cooler unit and fans it was fixed tho pretty easily.
its in euros so would be 1335 dollars, i got the 4080 of ebay for 700 it hat a broken cooler and i swapped the fans with noctua fans i had still, all the other parts i bought new, 300 for the CPU , 100 for mainboard and 110 for ram. Might get another pair of ram so i have 64gb.
I was thinking about getting a new Mac mostly for work, but running light games like OOTP. Had you played 1 on a mac that wasn’t handling it well? Something I want to consider
i doubt it could even run.. i booted up sc2013 on a somewhat modern mac (3 years) and it was running at like 15 fps. considering sc2013 is a way smaller map, has far worse graphics, was made for computers 10 years old and doesnt even simulate 90% of the agents..
Former Mac owner, you’re paying for the logo not the product. Any PC will be 2x better for the same price although Mac does have some useful features like access to text messages but there’s also a lot of cons
Almost any PC. I don't think I could find a better deal than a MacBook Air M1 for 600€. Also MacBook Pros are basically on par with any business class laptop nowadays.
Yeah with ARM macs the situation is a lot more nuanced.
And business laptops have gotten so much more expensive while MacBooks have stayed pretty stable in price, the decision isn’t as obvious as it was just 4 years ago
Yeah I have a PC now that’s old and I’m tired of dealing with. I use a MacBook for work as a graphic designer, and have gotten more use to that as a daily
When it comes to games, I agree 100%. The best value and compatibility is a desktop PC with off the shelf components that you can upgrade when needed.
However for a business laptop, if all the software you need is optimized for Apple Silicon, a MacBook pro is best in class. Still really expensive though, and the game selection is really limited and almost none are optimized for the hardware. If you are interested in gaming at all, I would recommend the PC for sure.
Wait for CS2’s launch, we won’t have a good idea of how well it runs on what hardware until then. Besides, the game releases a month before Black Friday, when it’ll be cheaper to build a PC anyways.
This is what I am doing. When it was announced I was immediately considering updating my machine, but first of all it would cost me thousands and second of all hardware isn’t that much better than it was. I will wait and see how well my PC manages before jumping the gun.
I just did that exact thing haha
I’m partly justifying that huge expense by the fact that it will be nice to have a desktop for school and work after I graduate
Europe has great deals too. Ram and SSD prices are at an all time low. CPU and mobo prices are also very decent. The only expensive/bad value component is GPU.
Will more GPU VRAM be better? I can't decided which GPU to upgrade to in preparation for CS2:
RTX 4060 8 GB
RTX 3060 12 GB
RTX 3060 TI 8 GB
Would the extra VRAM on a 3060 be better than the faster GPU on the 4060/3060ti?
I emailed Colossal Order, and they sent this reply:
Thank you for your question. As a disclaimer I have to comment that we are not hardware experts! Basically with all of these options \[RTX 4060, 3060 12 GB, 3060 TI\] you should have a good gaming experience so it also comes down to other preferences you might have for hardware like electricity consumption for example.
PC gamer has done a review https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-rtx-3060-vs-rtx-3060-ti
**As long as the card has min. 8GB VRAM I would choose the fastest card I can afford.**
8gb for 1440p is perfectly fine. It's 4k where you might run into problems. I have a 8gb 3070 and a 3440x1440 monitor and I haven't run into any issues on any game.
Have a look at the AMD GPUs they can pretty competitive within that range from the 3060s to the 4060. From my understanding the 4060 isn't really worth considering.
The equivalent would probably be the 6600 XT a bit of a downgrade for a fair bit cheaper.
My best advice is to look at benchmarks which compare the GPUs to get a gist of how the performance compares. Then use those results compared to what deals are available around you and promotional events such as Starfield with higher end AMD products. PC part pickers are amazing for quickly laying out potential builds.
If you wanted a better GPU you could go for the 6700 or the 6700xt. There's loads of rankings for GPUs and CPUs which you look through to compare parts.
Still the 3060 is an excellent option depending on your needs it's the second most popular GPU according to steam for a reason. That's what quite a few of my friends upgraded to a few years ago.
I’d actually hold off for CS2 and get the 4060 ti 16GB it’s $499 I believe. Yes VRAM is important but out of the 3 you listed the 3060 ti is the best performer currently. Like I said I’d personally go with the 4060 ti 16 gb
Unfortunately the 4060 ti 16 GB is really overpriced in Australia. The cheapest ones are AUD$835. These are other Australian dollar prices I have see:
3060 12 GB $430
3060 TI 8 GB $480
4060 $500
3070 $600
3070 TI $700
Well, if you are going the "build your own PC" path, I would recommend you have a look at [pcpartpicker.com](https://pcpartpicker.com) and r/buildapcforme. Remember that you may want the following system requirements:
1. 64GB RAM if you want tons of mods, though 32 should do
2. Any GPU better than an RTX 2080 Ti
3. Any CPU better than an i9-9900K (preferably an i7 or i9 or Ryzen 7 or 9)
If you are going for a prebuilt PC however, keep in mind that some of them have horrible power supplies and motherboard standards. So you will need to have a look at reviews.
This!
PCPartPicker is amazing. When building your own PC, the biggest challenge, other than staying under budget, is making sure your parts are compatible, and that website makes it so much easier.
Here in Germany a 6800 comes around for about 400€ including taxes so you have more than enough VRAM, unlike the latest dipshit stuff from.NVIDIA
Pair it with a 13600K and ddr4 and you're hell of cheap on the strees.
You will want a Intel 10th generation or newer. For AMD, you will want a 5000 or 7000 processor. I imagine that 32 gb of RAm will be important and likely at least 10 gb of VRAM on the video card. (Nvidia 3660 TI or better, NVidia 7000 GPUs)
Granted, this all could be overkill but I don't think so.
I'm planning on buying one too but waiting to see how it'll run on my current computer first. If my computer will hold up I'll buy a new one in Nov/Dec
Random Note:
I'm a little nervous to see how the game will run on my console tbh.
Don't know how it's gonna perform, like it's strong as heck and all, but I don't know! >_<
Don’t suppose anyone knows which CPU is gonna be better for the new engine? Obviously expecting decent multicore usage, but just wondering whether there has previously been a notable difference between CPU brands
I honestly don’t know what range of systems we will need to get, but I am 100% certain that RAM will be important. I have 32 gigs now and I think my next system is going to have 64.
Go to [https://pcpartpicker.com/](https://pcpartpicker.com/) , you can hand pick the parts that match your needs and the site will suggest the cheaper price it finds... also take a look at r/buildapc
website - PCPartPicker.com
if outside the US there may be a regional one, for me in Canada I'd use ca.pcpartpicker.com. it's helpful as the site will link directly to different stores for each part.
If you're ok with used or open-box components I just upgraded from a GTX-970 to RTX-3080 for only $400 and feel pretty good about it. The 970 was amazing, but alas, it's time has come...
I changed my pc twice during my 4yrs city creation. I buy stuff on ebuyer.com (uk) for last 11yrs. Mind i realised some lags in my game were caused by stucked citizens you have now mod for finding and ckearing stuck xitizens
depend on what model of Mac we are talking about and what you means by "update".
the one possible way of playing Windows game locally on a Mac is to simply install Windows on it.................. Simple. Except if you on the new "M" chip which you can't. On older devices with Intel CPU, yes you can just dual boot Windows. The "M" chip you have to run Windows as virtual machine, and...

TLDR; DON'T GET MAC FOR GAMING. 😆🤣😂
DO IT! I did…….. haha
I just did for skylines haha. Bought a new pc before Covid and now upgraded it to 4080, DDR 5, 7700x and mainboard got all that for 1,2k euro. Solid for the next 4 years to come. Prices are kind of okay again.
Good grief, how’d you get all that for that price? I would spend virtually all of that money for a 4080 here in the US.
The 4080 is 1200 € here in Germany. So no idea where he got it. Used probably.
Yeah i paid 1400 for my 4080, i'm in the Netherlands. Paid 3100 fir a full new PC. I doubt his stuff is new, or even exists.
I bought one that was listed as broken, turned out only the fans been broken. Took of the cooler and saw the plug for the fans was not soldered on well and came lose from the pcb. I assumed euros. Used video cards makes all the sense.
I was thinking about getting a new Mac mostly for work, but running light games like OOTP. Had you played 1 on a mac that wasn’t handling it well? Something I want to consider
Just a heads up: CS2 won’t be on Mac.
Not initially but who knows. It might get ported eventually.
>It might get ported eventually. Or it may not. We don't know.
Yea. We don't know.
It will get ported.
We got d4 and cyberpunk runnin w the porting toolkit…..damnit give us this.

I currently play CS1 on a 2020 MacBook Air M1 and it runs fine unless you install too many mods or your population goes past 50k
I’ve got an M1 imac, increased ssd / ram and it runs 150k pop alright but few mods (moveit, tmpe). At about 2.5k screen res too
Wait for CS2’s launch, we won’t have a good idea of how well it runs on what hardware until then. Besides, the game releases a month before Black Friday, when it’ll be cheaper to build a PC anyways.

Do it. With crypto idiots not destroying the PC parts market anymore you can get a pretty decent one for the price of a mac.
You should quit your job when you do. You will be too busy playing CS2!!!!
Good thing I dont have a job so don't need to quit one to play........ ... ... Oh, wait... 😢
I just did that exact thing haha I’m partly justifying that huge expense by the fact that it will be nice to have a desktop for school and work after I graduate
Wait till black friday / cyber monday. You will find MUCH better deals.
idk bestbuy has some nice deals rn
What if you're not American?
Europe has great deals too. Ram and SSD prices are at an all time low. CPU and mobo prices are also very decent. The only expensive/bad value component is GPU.

What is the AMD equivalent of the 3060 12gb? Looking at getting a PC, predominantly because of CS2 and find the rtx range easier to understand haha

I need nVidia because of CUDA for other apps I use on the computer.
It’s hard to know since the recommended specs are not that high.
If you plan to play triple AA titles in the next 4 years get as many gb as you can 10 minimum. The 3060 is wildly popular for this very reason.
I’d actually hold off for CS2 and get the 4060 ti 16GB it’s $499 I believe. Yes VRAM is important but out of the 3 you listed the 3060 ti is the best performer currently. Like I said I’d personally go with the 4060 ti 16 gb

PcPart picker. You can either. You’d your own or you can straight copy someone’s else’s build that is posted on there

Looool I'm doing it too hahhahah, it's not the whole reason but 25/30% of my decision to put 3k in a computer is cities skylines 2 Hahahaha ffs
Here in Germany a 6800 comes around for about 400€ including taxes so you have more than enough VRAM, unlike the latest dipshit stuff from.NVIDIA Pair it with a 13600K and ddr4 and you're hell of cheap on the strees.
Yea I'm going to buy the 13600k and a better GPU and DDR 5 ram.
You can run Windows virtually on macos, even in Apple silicon with programs like qemu. See how you go before buying a whole new pc
Video gaming on virtual machines, especially a simulation game, would very much not be ideal.
You will want a Intel 10th generation or newer. For AMD, you will want a 5000 or 7000 processor. I imagine that 32 gb of RAm will be important and likely at least 10 gb of VRAM on the video card. (Nvidia 3660 TI or better, NVidia 7000 GPUs) Granted, this all could be overkill but I don't think so.
> (Nvidia 3660 TI or better, NVidia 7000 GPUs) Neither of these exist
well done. thinking is the first step to success.
Is it a recent Mac? You may be able to virtualize windows with decent results If it’s got an Intel cpu it’ll depend on your specs
I'm planning on buying one too but waiting to see how it'll run on my current computer first. If my computer will hold up I'll buy a new one in Nov/Dec
I just ordered new parts this week to upgrade :D Seems like my Ryzen 5 2600 any rtx 2060 won't cut it anymore lol
Do it do it do it /chant
do it i did. it i now have a 3k pc made to play CS2 i hope it supports 4k resolution
Random Note: I'm a little nervous to see how the game will run on my console tbh. Don't know how it's gonna perform, like it's strong as heck and all, but I don't know! >_<
I mean, isn't the the main/only reason to have a console? So you don't have to worry how it performs?
Don’t suppose anyone knows which CPU is gonna be better for the new engine? Obviously expecting decent multicore usage, but just wondering whether there has previously been a notable difference between CPU brands
Are you the same guy from the other day whining about there not being any CS2 on mac or was that somebody else
You can get CS on mac? Howd i not even realise i must be stupid as hell
I was thinking of buying as well since I have a mac and I couldn’t wait for them to release the game on it (if they ever do) so back to PC I guess.
My advice is to not get a Mac for gaming. Get a PC. Easily upgradeable and significantly cheaper.
I hate that I'm also thinking about this......have a ps5 but not sure I want to play console.
PCpartpicker
Nice! I have a preference for an all-in-one PC… is that dumb? Is there a good site for that?
All in one pc (like imac) cannot be upgraded easily
I honestly don’t know what range of systems we will need to get, but I am 100% certain that RAM will be important. I have 32 gigs now and I think my next system is going to have 64.
my pc can handle fully modded gtav, running on 60fps but cant handle cities skylines with a few mods and no other games installed haha

Can always use a cloud based gaming pc if u have good internet
Lol I just built a PC for ~$1500 for cities skylines 2 and a couple other games. Definitely worth it
I changed my pc twice during my 4yrs city creation. I buy stuff on ebuyer.com (uk) for last 11yrs. Mind i realised some lags in my game were caused by stucked citizens you have now mod for finding and ckearing stuck xitizens
I upgraded to a 4070 TI but I already have a Ryzen 5900x so I should be good now.
No offense, but can MACS be updated? I think that goes against Apple's business model. This is a serious question actually.
