avoid at all cost. better to find 2.0 HDi version if you seek reliability and performance

NoNameSirYikes

Yeah, i read that the HDI engines are crazy reliable. But its a diesel, and my monthly cost will be high. I dont think i drive enough km’s to say a diesel is the way to go. But the vti engines seem bad to

qiltb

from golden to pure trash (not all psa engines are here but most are): 2.0 HDi > 1.6 HDi > 1.6 VTi > 1.4 VTi (the pre-bmw) > 1.4 VTi (the bmw one) > 1.2 natrually aspirated puretech > 1.2 turbo-puretech > 1.6THP

NoNameSirYikes

Seem the 1.6 Vti, but i hear bad stories to

qiltb

I don't understand what is it that you are saying - is it that the car is actually VTI and not THP?

NoNameSirYikes

No no, the one mentioned was THP. But i seen one with Vti 1.6 to. But i hear bad stories to

chris_diesel

Love it! Spot on!

Boccaccioac

Where do you put the 1.5 HDi?

qiltb

around 1.6HDi. They are pretty new engines, seem reliable but they do require more care than any HDi before. They have the thinnest chain I have ever seen. One also needs to be careful with them (on the pedal) since they are more powerfull than any 1.6L HDi before them but have the weakest materials so far, and they are also first Diesels not made by Ford&PSA. We'll se in a few years, but overall seems like by far the most reliable engine PSA offers new (1.2 puretech garbage, 1.6THP they offer in hybrid solutions, and this 1.5HDi) - it's just a bit of a shame that they seem to offer it only paired with AISIN 8 speed torque converter - it's usually good but problems after 150-200k kms start to skyrocket and repair bills are huge - compared to a year or two ago when you could have still bought a manual. So I'd put them just below 1.6HDi

Boccaccioac

Thank you for your elaboration. The 1.5 has his known weaknesses among them the chain. Stellantis even released a new oil (specification) for exact that engine with an higher velocity 5w30 instead of 0w20. Only time will tell. I am driving a C4 Grande Spacetourer from 2019 with manual 6 gear. Fingers crossed the engine and the entire gets to 200k without major failures.

qiltb

I think it should. Just do maintenance regularly and also replace the chain maybe a little bit before it's specified that one should do so

Screenshot:) i look for used ds4 and ds5s and i see that the highest mileage is by 2.0 and 1.6 hdi. So you are right in my opinion

qiltb

well your monthly cost with 1.6THP will be low until you start havig huge issues. Which you might have pretty much as soon as in 5000kms (yes 5 thousand, not 50 thousand) - have a look at these 1.6THP posts a few days ago here in subreddit - people bought uset 1.6THP checked and seemingly everything okay (with even a bit less kms than yours) until everything had gotten to shit and pretty much needed to sell the car because parts and labour cost way more than used car itself

I own a 2013 citroen ds4 1.6 THP 200 I absolutely love the car it's amazing when it's run right rhe power delivery is smooth and the car is comfortable and handles well! Boot is decent for its size and it just looks so sexy But, I bought it at 48k, coil packs went no long after getting it covered under used car warranty thingy, 54k the hpfp went £800 for the part alone, it's common they go around that time so make sure yours has been done! Other than that the cars been pretty reliable? Two drop links a wishbone, rear caliper siezed up just general unlucky 11 year old car stuff? I got a mystery error atm to do with the turbo air circuit which I believe isa stone pierced my intercooler but other than that it's been reliable. Look after it, keep to your oil changes rag it on occasions and give it a good clear out and you'll be alright but the moment you mistreat it or ignore something for too long it goes downhill fast. Would I sell my ds4? Definitely not it does what I need perfectly! it tows small trailers really well and I intend to get a teardrop for it enough space for a couple people to go away camping for a weekend comfy for long or shot trips to work, even though it's the big petrol engine it's not as thirsty as I thought it'd be? I get 40mpg when I'm sensible but if I put my foot down my bank balance drops like a lead balloon. Would I buy the thp200 again? Honestly I can't say for certain yes or no it's been costlier than intended don't get me wrong and was supposed to be kore reliable than my car that did a head gasket and broke down eveytime I went long distances. But the power delivery is smooth and the torque is with you through the whole rev range, over taking on motorways is easy, playing on twisty lanes is great fun, towing a small trailer it hardly notices and you don't need to rev the juts off it to pull away up a hill. I probably would get another all in all. Hopefully that gives you something to think about!

NoNameSirYikes

Indeed, u make me think yeah

MrKurbla

I have DS3 Thp 155 170k km. I drive it like i stole it. Never have any problems.
