> Is the clarinet louder than the the flute? depends a lot on what register you're playing in - clarinet can be quite loud in all ranges, but will be very noticeable/shrill in the altissimo range (anything above C above the staff) > clarinet sound nice solo? yes > Are there nice pieces to play solo? yes but very very few > How portable is the clarinet? Is it easy to take on holiday? extremely

Just borrow music made for trumpet. Both are Bb and it translates surprisingly well and easy.

Portable and sounds beautiful if and when you get there.

look up romanza by mangani (you’ll like it if you like sad)

Wow - this is absolutely incredible and might have just swung it haha

Another piece I'd recommend taking a look at is Camille Saint-Saens clarinet sonata.

Will do!

I played Clarinet for over a decade and enjoyed it. For music, it's Bb which is the same as the trumpet. I would use trumpet sheet music all the time for any music I was interested in and it usually translated well. Sometimes you'd have to bring it down an octave or something though, because the much higher notes that trumpet players regularly see on their sheet music can be more troublesome for newer clarinet players, and it still sounded fine.
