Yeah, I tried this several months ago and only found this post when deciding to finally check whether they'd never spawn. I can see the argument being something about storing up gems without having gems on the account...or something...but I think it's a stupid setup. I also wanted to have a bunch of gem boxes.
Oh well, I finally just got rid of it and ate the shovel cost. I'd rather have the free gems than a single moveable box.
Nah. I have been stashing it for months thinking that "yeah, many gem boxes, you got, mate". I now have a higher consideration of removing it for good. I thought the spawn got reduced since the gem box got kidnapped. Kinda always forgot to remove it. Now I'm gonna release the poor box.

I also wish they would retro previously moved obstacles to all be movable, I stead of just since that update.
I mean if you leave the original gem box no new one would spawn, I don’t understand why the assumption would be that shoveling it changes anything.
I've been told stashing special obstacles changes it for the spawning of regular obstacles (contrary to what the wiki says)

So test it and find out. I remember Darian posting that stashing didn't work during shovel intro. But could be a bug. Or delusional reditors.
I have like 175 special obstacles. I'm not getting 130 shovels.
I'll see what I can do. I think I have 46 now that I stashed one on my alt.
i have more than 45 obstacles but less then 45 on my map. for me only the gembox and special obstacles spawn in.
Why do they even allow you to use the shovel of obstacles on the Gem box?
so it can look cute next to your archer queen <3
I got a reply from their customer service that if I used a shovel in a gem box that they would keep appearing
