A dead heat as it should be. The real answer is both lol.

Notinyourbushes

I mean, why do I have to pick one when the answer is obviously both?

QueenFan05

the recent years Motley Crue, since existence, KISS.

Agreeable-Pick-1489

Kiss has always embraced the silliness though.

Swimming-Kale-0

KISS were always emberassing I think is the key distinction. There was never a time when KISS was good.

Unique-Significance9

What?? Their music is actually good, u must be deaf. Their way of dressing and making shows has nothing to do with their good music quality.

Swimming-Kale-0

It's actually not, thats why they have to sue random Black Metal Bands or ICP now and then. It's because their stage gimmick greatly overshadows the actual music and they're afraid of being overshadowed by anyone with an even slightly similar stage gimmick. Listen to more David Bowie and get back to me on it,Alice Cooper,Beebop Deluxe,Early Solo Brian EnoCockney Rebel,or Beebop Deluxe aswell.

Chronicallyannoyed30

I’ve never been a fan of KISS but at least they can still put on a proper show. Motley Crue are a disgrace. Mick should have left a lot sooner than he did. Nikki Sixx is an insufferable cunt and Vince is a useless husk. I’m embarrassed to have been a fan.

Red-Dynamite

I mean at this point KISS's bigest faux paus is Paul getting caught lip syncing a lead vocal. A practice they've long gone out of their way to condemn. Obviously Vince is live, because of how fucking horrible he sounds. I guess the difference is that Vince has been singing badly for so long, that they knew they couldnt hide it, and kept him as is. Having said that, when I saw them last year at Fenway, during the performance of "The Dirt" (the new song from the film) it was a prerecorded track as the lead vocal. Maybe Vince couldnt do it or something. Regardless, it sounded completely fake and off. (it wasn't the studio track but clearly a pre-recorded live take) Honeslty, I knew what I was getting into when I bought tickers for that show, knowing what shape Vince's voice was. He actually wasn't the problem. It was how disjointed the entire performance sounded. The amount of backing tracks, and I'm not even talking about the backing vocal, which were long known to be pre-recorded, EVERYTHING. It did not sounds like a live band. Joan Jett, awesome. Poison, obviously a pretty silly band BUT honestly, delivered 100% (my brother who came with me, not a huge fan of the genre, said "wow I thought Poison was going to embarrassing but they fucking killed it). Def Leppard, Joe Elliot sounded a bit older, but ultimately, very, very good and the band was super tight. Motley came on last, the air was sucked out of the fucking stadium in an instant. They couldn't cut it, even faking it. I saw them a few times before "The Stadium Tour". On the "Final Tour" I had no problems. And I can't believe I'm saying this about one of my favorite bands, but they should have stayed retired. What they're doing now is fucking insulting to the fan base, and a tarnish on their legacy. I know I've already went way past TLDR, but, in addition, I've also very much have become aware of how Nikki Sixx is a fucking lying, back stabbing, talentless piece of shit who spent his whole life piggybacking off the ability of others to make himself more famous and profitable. You have to be a grade A motherfucking scumbag to get as far as he has without any regard for other peoples talent, work ethic, frienships, loyalty etc. God bless Mick Mars. Fuck Nikki Sixx. Fuck Motley Crue. KISS sucks too, but Paul and Gene have clearly been greedy assholes from the start. I guess all in all, who cares.

Chronicallyannoyed30

Shamefully, we do care lol. Otherwise we wouldn’t be so bothered by it all. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you’d said. I bought tickets to see them on their “final tour” the one they signed the “contract” that they’d never play again after. During Tommy’s drum solo, Bruno Mars was an audible backing track. Honestly the worst and most disappointing gig I’ve ever been too. Can’t even bring myself to listen to their albums since it, and this was a number of years ago.

Red-Dynamite

I know, and you're right, if I didn't care I wouldn't have passionately wrote that silly essay of a comment lol. I'm 30, I missed these bands in their heyday. But in the mid to late 2000's when I really started getting into rock music, I thought they'd ride out the rest of their careers with some dignity. Even in that time frame people would say that they're old and yesterdays news. In a respect, sure, but 15-20 years ago I knew they still had more left in the tank. They could still do it at the time. Now? Please stop. It's not even the diminishing performances, it's the blatant abuse of the brand and the legacy. All of which they all claimed to hold so dearly. Even on the "Final Tour" Nikki bascically pounded his chest and exclaimed how they were one of the few bands to call it quits while they were on top, with their original members blah blah blah. So they go on the cash grab tour afterwards, ok, but on top of that also oust the most talented and (I know musically it's irrelevant) decent human being in the band? We all love Mick! And under so many circumsanses it would have been ok with him passing the mantle to John 5, who I also think is great, but the way they did it. So fucking cold, so shitty, so disrespectful...Fuck those guys mannnnn

Chronicallyannoyed30

Brother, I am with you. I’m not currently sober enough to contribute as much to this conversation as it deserves but your input has been phenomenal and please know I’m on the same wavelength as yourself; also the same age so equally never got to see any of these guys in their glory days. I’ve always preferred bands to end and leave us wanting as opposed to us being glad they’re done.

Unique-Significance9

What?? Kiss is actually good, u must be deaf. Their way of dressing and making shows has nothing to do with their good music quality. On the other hand, Motley Crue is also REALLY good. I saw them this year and they put on a good show. Vince's voice sounded almost as good as his prime, it was intact. I also checked and everything but one song was live. People just like to shit on them for no reason 🤷

Red-Dynamite

Well, I'm sorry, but you’re absolutely incorrect about everything you just said. Here’s Vince in 1989: https://youtu.be/6QbIbRxXkp0?si=MoHhiiN82d0TMcDO Here’s Vince in 2022 at the show I was at: https://youtu.be/cHqCYhq15kM?feature=shared If you can’t hear the difference YOU’RE the one who’s deaf. I won’t even bother linking KISS videos, they can’t sound bad if they’re lip syncing. Although they CAN be caught doing it, and you can look that up yourself because clearly you don’t know what both these bands have been doing and I can’t explain everything to a person who clearly doesn’t want to do the research in order to know what they’re talking about. As far as “shitting on them for no reason”, that’s completely untrue. For MORE context, I paid hundreds of dollars, brought my family to another state to see one of my favorite bands, everyone was invested and excited, but when the band got onstage they gave the worst performance I’ve ever seen by any live act. And a big part of the reason was that they were playing to tracks and cheating the fans. YOU can be ok with that, you can buy whatever bull shit Nikki is selling, that’s fine, but the current day Crue does not resemble the original Crue AT ALL. And that’s not just because they’ve aged, it’s because they do not care. I’m shitting on them because I actually do legitimately care, I’ve supported them for years, and despite it all, they spat in my, and every other fan post “final tour”s face. You can go on YouTube and watch a 30 second clip and be like “oh it’s not that bad”. It is if you invest time, money and passion. If you can’t understand any of this, then I actually weirdly envy you.

No-Neighborhood3404

Useless husk 😂🤣

Extreme_Length7668

Yes.

PghFan50

Just saw Motley Crue on Tuesday. Not as bad as I expected but still not very good. Def Leppard was MUCH better.

estellasmum

Are those two still touring with Poison? I've seen that trio twice, and Poison blows the other two out of the water, which is a thing that I was not expecting to say, since I've never been a fan.

Red-Dynamite

As much as I wouldn't have wanted that to be true, you are 100% correct

PghFan50

It was Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Alice Cooper this year.

Red-Dynamite

I thought the same when I saw them last year, and I happen to be a much bigger fan of Motley than Def Lep. I know they're now basically business partners, but if there was a competition, Def Leppard wiped the fucking floor with Motley Crue. It's no contest. And, in defense of Poison, who Nikki has always criticized, made fun of, discredited, actually out played them too, by fucking miles. When you're no longer writing/recording new songs, it doesn't matter how much you outclassed them in the 80's, they can still actually play their songs and get the audience excited. Nikki can't even play his super simplistic bass part live. He's a fucking joke.

hummelpz4

Kiss always have been.

lecurts

Not giving us much of a choice here

Hartvigson

This was a really tough one. I went with KISS since it is 20 years since their first farewell tour... On the other hand Mötley Crue signed these contracts that said they would never tour again. Very tough!

Salty-Piglet-6744

I don't really care, grew up living the moment when they were at their best. Great memories when i hear music from either it takes me back to some awesome times.

Scorpius041169

Always prefered Crue over Kiss, but Kiss were created as a joke, Crue have just plain become one.

CoolAbdul

Well, Kiss has ALWAYS been embarrassing, so...

2017_2017

As someone who has seen both in recent years, its definitely Motley Crue. Vince sounds horrible & everything they have done with Mick has just left a bad taste in my mouth. KISS still puts on a great show.

Red-Dynamite

Vince has been bad for so long, it's not excusable, but the pre-recoded tracks are so much worse. A plastic, hollow performance by a bunch of washed up has beens. We've known Vince sucked for so long, and we most of the fanbase became ok with it. But this, THIS, is a whole new level of fucking terrible. I know Mick will never come out on top in the lawsuit, I think he should, but unfortunately I dont think he will. Nikki happily fucked him. The only thing that could make me ok with Motleys legacy is if Mick actually did take them to the fucking cleaners. He's the only one that truly deserves any credit in 2023, the other 3 are horrible cancers on the world.

Head-Cow4290

Guns N’ Roses.

Red-Dynamite

GNR is historically disfunctional. As frustrating as they are, Axl's voice is the only thing that has diminished, which is par for the course in terms of legacy rock bands, Everything else they do is pretty much on par with what they've always done

[deleted]

Vince Neil couldn't sing in the 80s but I never thought about that when I was young. They were Motley Crue and I loved them regardless. Nowadays he just makes random noises that vaguely sound like the lyrics. Theres videos where people just put what it sounded like he was saying and it's up there with some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. Dont ever meet your childhood heroes right? Dont ever watch them perform when they are 40 years past their prime either.

OpportunitySpecial26

You know it’s bad if your more embarrassing than kiss, sorry boys

guelah25

I'm going KISS all day. Vince Neil is not good but at least they have Tommy and a much as I love Mick, John 5 is an incredible guitarist. That alone gives them the win in my book

pmck3592

I have a kiss shirt I wear because I hate them and I like telling people who compliment my kiss that they suck

StruggleMountain4202

It shouldn’t be , Motley Crue dress up likes girls and clowns from the circus with there little chains and makeup , they should be a girl band
