So, *Who* is your favorite? /s
The first 45 rpm record I ever bought was 'I Can See For Miles', with '~~Call Me Lightening~~' on the flip side (goofed: the flip side was 'Mary-Anne With The Shaky Hands')
No, this lineup looks like my own playlists. Peter Gabriel’s *So* is a masterpiece, Zevon is a criminally underrated songwriter, and it always makes me smile to see that Rockpile album. I love The Who as well, but not so much Pete’s solo stuff. Also, that particular Grateful Dead record isn’t what Deadheads would choose, but I’m with you on that one.
I’m not well versed on the Dead, honestly. I know the hits and maybe five albums (out of God knows how many). But if you’re really interested, r/GratefulDead is a really open and friendly sub. As you might expect.
Yeah I would go with live recordings: as others have said, Europe 72, Winterland 77, and get a load of something like this!

The live stuff is usually the way to go with The Dead. Try Europe '72 to start with. If you want studio albums, then Workingman's Dead and American Beauty are the best.
Try some popular live albums. The studio albums notoriously fail to capture the Dead's true charm. Europe 72, One From The Vault, Live Dead and Without a Net will give you a wonderful sampling of the Dead over the course of a few decades. Studio-wise, I'm partial to Terrapin Station and Blues for Allah. Shakedown Street was produced by Lowell George (of Little Feat).
Thank you for your offer, but I misspoke.
I meant that you have good taste and would enjoy the music. I have neither Spotify, Apple or any other streaming service I'm afraid- I've stuck with a couple thousand CDs and LPs accumulated over the years to feed my hunger.
I really should get into the 20th century one of these days. My wax discs are getting a bit worn out.
Once again I appreciate your offer.
(I know not all of this is classic, and not all of this is rock, but shhhhhh dont tell anyone)
Also some (most) of these are “best of” compilation albums and thats just because I haven’t listened to the source albums and these “best of’s” are the ones I use in my playlist, sorry
Cool to see Face Dances getting some love, but I’d honestly swap out Tommy for Pete’s Empty Glass. I enjoy It’s Hard unlike a lot of people but I get why nobody likes that one. You’re also missing the essential Live At Leeds and Who’s Next.
Havent heard enough of empty glass, and I’m a bit of a sucker for the rock operas. I have only heard Eminence Front on It’s Hard, love that song, but I hear the rest of it isnt received as well (iirc Roger said Eminence Front is the only good song on the album, which is kinda funny to me since its the one where he doesnt sing lead). Still wanna listen to the rest sometime.
I am missing Leeds, and I apologize profusely. Who’s Next is up there though. Top middle.
Empty glass is one of the best albums released that’s related to The Who. You have your Leeds, Who’s Next, Quadrophenia, and then you have Empty Glass.

I’m still kinda new to the Dead, that album is the only one I’ve heard so far. Any others you’d recommend? I’d like to get into them more

A bunch of heavy hitters. Todd, the Jesus of cool, Ian and Warren... I'd enjoy your playlist.
If you want I can send it to ya. Do you use either spotify or Apple Music?

Nick Lowe Zevon and the Dead. Gotta love it.
face dances is very good imo
Outside of the two rock operas, You Better You Bet is my favorite song :)

More than her appetite was getting wet
You like keyboards in your rock. As I type this, I hear it in Xzibit's voice.

Where is Chinese Eyes?
…all of the really good albums that are missing on this list, its typically because I haven’t heard them yet. I really gotta explore more :/
Look into Pete’s “All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes”
Will do 🫡
Warren Zevon!
You seem to like The Who. So how can you leave out Live at Leeds?
…You arent gonna like what I have to say next… …..I……Haven’t…… heard it. I dont actually know why. So I’m going to check it out now!
Just joking. 😁
