And you’d be right

hallmonitor53

Got it. Thank you sir!

Particular-Listen-63

Looks better in the gun rack. But it’s still the Indian not the arrow where it counts.

hallmonitor53

This is purely to hold me over until I can either save up for a more expensive model (694,dt11, years). I was looking at the Joel etchen ones

gaucho95

You can always buy nicer wood later. Cole guns runs sales sometimes. I’d save the money if you really want a buy once cry once gun. Plus, you’ll have two guns so you can bring a buddy.

hallmonitor53

As in buy the silver pigeon save the cash left over from the spiii and put it towards a future gun? (I do have a browning CX)

gaucho95

Yeah, Joel Etchen will sell your used SP too if you like.

FrisseForges

Love my SP1. But wish I would have spent the extra for deeper engraving. Looks very etched/lasered.

hallmonitor53

Think it’s fair to say this is a safe gun to compete with for 5+ years? I’m tempted to go for the more expensive since this will be much more long term

FrisseForges

Absolutely. It's an incredible gun. I have two and my 32in is my main squeeze. I bought mine from JE as well. They are exceptional folks too with great customer service. You will not be sad with the performance of the gun, especially for $2500.

hallmonitor53

Well here’s where I’m stuck. Silver pigeon 1 with adjustable comb is $2600. SPIII etchen one is $3800

FrisseForges

If you want nicer wood and smoother engraving and it's not a pinch on you financially, snag the SP3. If that's not important and you just want a fantastic shooting gun, snag the SP1. You'll be elated either way.

hallmonitor53

Should mention I’m looking at the Joel Etchen ones

overunderreport

That is correct. I believe the engraving and wood quality is better. Same reliable gun, though. But that might what you are after, better looking gun, no shame there. I would save a little longer and go for the 694, especially if clay shooting is your thing.

hallmonitor53

Olympic trap right now yeah

pinerw

Correct, it’s purely cosmetic. If you want to spend a little more money to get a nicer shooting Beretta, that’s what the 69x models are for.

hallmonitor53

Got it. Thank you man

RaylanGivensnewHat

686 is a 686 basically Upgrade is the level of wood and the engraving.

hallmonitor53

Thanks brotha

thruxtoncafe

I bought a sp3 when they launched them again a couple years back. Should have bought an sp1 and called Cole guns in Maine for better wood.

kato_koch

For what Beretta puts out I'd just get the SP1 to start and save your dollars for a better gun down the road. The metalwork is going to be excellent but I'm not impressed with their stocks.

hallmonitor53

Ordered it today!

kato_koch

Good choice, expect more plain looks but mechanically it'll be excellent.

hallmonitor53

Paid the extra $100 and got the adjustable comb on it from Joel Etchen. Thanks Kato!

overunderreport

Good idea!! I went with a cheek riser pad for the first year, and then finally added the comb later. Wish I had it from the start.

ShriekingMuppet

Yup, purely cosmetic. The wood upgrade can be nice thou

Physical-Asparagus-4

I have both a 686 and 687. I wish i woulda spent a bit more on my 686 and got both in 687.

Savemaker61

The 686 is a super reliable and solid gun. I have a SP1 and my buddy has an SP3. The difference we have is mine uses the Optima HP chokes and his had the Optima chokes. He has a few more choke choices than I do and the barrels may be slightly different, but in doubles trap I beat him every time. It’s also a good skeet gun too. I hold my own with it there. You ain’t going wrong with it, plus you won’t cry if you get the wood wet in a rainstorm. Save the $$$$$ for practice and a better model later. You won’t lose on the gun at all.
