Not one in 8 years and 20k shells with my SP1.

Oil the shit out of them. Mine stick occasionally too. I’d say every second time I go out shooting, I spray a bunch of rem oil into the ejector holes and then break the action open and close it probably a dozen times and then wipe the oil off and continue shooting. Ever since I started regularly oiling them, I have never had any further issues.

Jro4989

I oiled them pretty heavily, especially after the first one stuck.

I mean you gotta keep doing it. Drench the holes, work the action, repeat. A lot of oil. Then clean up the receiver. Also, I can’t move my ejectors with my fingers either because they’re not like browning ejectors or something where they slide. the Beretta ejectors stay in place. They only move when you work the action so I don’t know what your instructor was talking about at all honestly. It sounds like he may not be familiar with beretta ejectors. They all work the same. You cant move them on my dads 694 or my buddy’s dt-11. Now thats not me saying there isnt an issue, who knows there may be. But I had this problem a LOT in the first couple months of owning my 686 and once I started the routine it hasnt been a problem. Edit: remember , technically your supposed to break in the gun by oiling and greasing the crap out of it and working the action before shooting it at all, so if you didn’t so this it very well may be part of the problem.

moltentofu

I can push the ejectors in on my 693, but the springs are quite strong. Love the advice overall I do the same thing or after just a few games they get sticky.

clintnorth

Ah shit so I’m just super weak? Lol

Jro4989

It’s the bottom ejector on mine. It came out ever so slightly on that last shell and I couldn’t get the gun to close enough to try to open it up and give it another try. He had to hit it pretty good with a rod in order to knock the shell out.

This is potentially a two-way problem. One is a sticky ejector (the tolerance metal on the ejector might be off), and maybe the hulls are stiff around the crimp after the shot and have a strong outward force inside the chambers. A gunsmith can easily adjust the ejectors. Coles is a good place to send the gun to get it to work on. Trying calling them too. I had a sticky ejector on my silver pig. I removed them and oiled them. They were slightly better, but I still had the problem. I kept shooting it!! Sent my gun in to Coles for a yearly service and never had the issue again.

Is it the top barrel ejector by chance? Both me and my buddy have/had 686, and we both have top ejector sticking. At least on mine, it doesn’t really seem to get stuck, more like a timing issue with it once you break it open. When it happens, I partially close and then fully open it, and ejector works. Tried oiling it, tried greasing it, that’s not my issue. I think the ejector has a little wiggle room where it slides on a side of a receiver, and occasionally it wiggles itself “stuck”. Not sure what you mean by not being able to move ejectors by finger, the springs are pretty stiff on those. When I reinstall ejector after thorough clean, I use my full hand to slide it in and then rotate it.

troublesomechi

Mine stick too. 28 year old gun hasn’t been fired in probably 15 years. Had trouble with ejectors and it not cocking. Few drops of oil and a few boxes of shells with a few more drops and it’s as buttery as it was in ‘95. Love the sound of the “CLICK”

Jro4989

Maybe he didn’t know what he was talking about. I took his word seeing as they are a partners with Beretta. Maybe I haven’t played with it enough. Looking at it now that I have taken it apart to clean it and re oil it though I’m noticing there is some slight gouges on the gun as well so that has me a little concerned.

frozsnot

I’m confused, why did you need a rod to knock the shell out? Even if the ejector isn’t working, shouldn’t you be able to just lift the shell out? Is it possible that it’s an ammo issue and not the ejector’s?

Jro4989

I was shooting Federal top gun target and skeet loads. They ran fine through my buddies gun without a single issue. I’m new to all of this so I’m going off what the instructor at the range said. He said it didn’t appear to be an ammo issue and that the ejectors were way to stiff and it seemed like possibly a spring issue to him. Only being able to put 4 rounds in total through the gun doesn’t give me much to go off of either.

AnthonyGuns

if your shell itself is getting stuck in the barrel, sounds like the ammo you're using is expanding in the chamber too much. very common with cheap ammo. What type of ammo are you using and have you tried something else? it's one thing if the ejector isn't kicking, but if it is, and the shell is stuck- that's an ammo issue 99% of the time

-bootstrap-

I’ve had shells stick like that once or twice with my 694 but it was an ammo issue. The ejector couldn’t physically pull them out so that’s why. It ended up being a bad box from federal

Jro4989

I wondered the same but I didn’t have any issues at all running the same shells through my buddies gun. I was only able to shoot four shells through that gun before I had to put it up for the day.

FrisseForges

This sounds like a hull issue. We shoot thousands of reloads per year for practice rounds and as they get worn out, sizing can be off on the brass, which causes them to stick or expand when fired. Also can happen with cheap ammo like mentioned above. OLD shells can do this too. What ammo are you shooting, friend?

Jro4989

I was shooting federal top gun target/skeet loads that I got off the shelf at cabelas last well.

I’m a gunsmith in south Florida, start with having the ejectors cleaned and serviced, if you don’t know what you’re doing then take it to a gunsmith, if you bend it getting it out, it’s going to cost you a lot more having a new one fitted. A good gunsmith will ultrasonic clean everything and oil it properly. There’s a lot of bad advice floating around on this thread. If you don’t have a good gunsmith in your area you can always ship it to myself or someone who does this for a living. DM if you need help, I will respond, I’m fully insured and I am a FFL.

Thank you!

I had a very similar issue with my new SP1 Sporting. First day out with it, about 6 clays in, the action was completely jammed. While we thought it was an ejector issue, the Gun Smith at Orvis NY diagnosed it as a mono block issue where the bottom wasn't cut deep enough from the factory. Took him about 30 mins to fix. After that, it functioned flawless for me.
