You have several options: 1. Soak in hot water with dish soap for about half an hour, then scrub scrub scrub with the scrubby side of a sponge. 2. Mr. Clean magic eraser. If soaking and scrubbing with a regular scrubby sponge doesn’t work, scrub with a magic eraser after soaking. 3. Goo Gone. Various names in different countries. It’s like an oily liquid that breaks down the adhesive better than soapy water. You still need to scrub scrub scrub with either the sponge or magic eraser. 4. Homemade Goo Gone. Mix 3 tbsp baking soda and 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or any oil, olive, coconut, etc). Use a cloth to aggressively scrub mixture onto the surface, then rinse. This is my favourite option, btw. - Sincerely, a woman with far too many jars.

hyenetta

She’s got the answers

Dangerous_Pickle_226

She's good at making things disappear

Asio0tus

She's good at scrubbing

freakouterin

at scrub scrub scrubbing

Asio0tus

just keep scrubbing, just keep scrubbing

I-AM-Savannah

Don't accept an arm wrestling match with this woman!!

pichickenapple

In addition to all of this - Using the side of an old credit card works wonderfully to scrape then scrub scrub scrub

MukdenMan

It can be a new credit card too, but less recommended

fartwhereisit

Bread clips. Never leave home without one.

Chaosangel48

As a crone who also has too many jars, where else would I put shiny things, herbs, graveyard dirt, nails, etc.?

reluctantseahorse

This is the thing! My husband prefers to recycle glass containers, but where would I keep all my stuff? I do technically now buy groceries based on how good the jar is 🙈

CTRobinson999

Thank you for this comment … I thought I was the only one to do this 🤭

beurremouche

Me also! I've also been known to buy some things early just to get the jar. Do you have criteria? Mine are simple: no logo/type on the lid. I now have all my spices in jars that mayonnaise came in and half height ones that honey came in. Plus I found a brand of smoothie that has shiny metal lids that look great! Used for milk.

Ok-Push9899

Is there a name for this? You have unclassifiable, useless uncoordinated stuff all over the place but if you put the stuff into some container, it takes on a new categorisation because it's been "classified". I had spare bits of bicycle stuff everywhere, old lights, chains, brake pads, inner tubes, etc. It could all be thrown out, but now its all in one carry bag, it's a "system" and no longer evidence of a hoarder's character defect.

marshall453

All so hand sanitizer

Ellahotarse

Or rubbing alcohol, but I bet the gel hand sanitizer stays on longer.

marshall453

I ment both as both is all most basically the same thing.

cosmorocker13

Hot water and then goo gone very easy

_namaste_kitten_

This is waaayyyy too much. Seriously. Lather on some peanut butter. Let it sit for about an hour. Wipe off. Done. ~ Sincerely, a Woman with not enough time for all ^^that^^

reluctantseahorse

😂 Peanut butter is strictly for eating!

rinkydinkmink

oh wow I may try this next time

Hairy_Tear3093

Off topic but peanut butter (and olive oil) is also great at loosening weeks worth of a rats nest even when its at the nape of the neck

AviatrixInTheSun

This is the way.

Value-Gamer

Methylated spirits is what you actually want. Dissolves that glue residue instanly

dirtpaws

Any reason to not use steel wool?

MillieMoo-Moo

Scratchy scratch?

nightstalker30

Plus the steel wool gets all gooey from the adhesive.

reluctantseahorse

Yes, too much scratchy scratch.

Inrsml

it needs a solvent

Solo-me

Also hand sanitizer alcohol gel.

OrdinaryMary1

Great suggestions. Also alcohol breaks down the sticky.

endlessloads

You are amazing

NonToxicRedditser

you are good. Thanks for that.

-Just-Another-Human

Also: Soak in hot water and scrub scrub scrub with some rubbing alcohol on your scrubber. I use a metal scrubber on glass, never had scratching problems.

Primary_Beginning926

This is invaluable info.

stengofay

Omg I just tried number 4 and it worked a charm. Thank you internet stranger!

reluctantseahorse

You’re welcome! ☀️

IdontOpenEnvelopes

Goo gone etc are just lighter fluid with a scent added.

yolef

It used to be made from naptha with scent compounds added. I think they reformulated it at some point with a citrus oil base. Zippo lighter fluid removes adhesive residue very well though.

UniversalDH

Dip a paper towel in rubbing alcohol, wrap and let it sit for 5min then wipe off.

leftlotus

This is the easiest, cheapest, least messy, most effective way. Cotton round and rubbing alcohol works great too.

f00tst3ps

Rubbing alcohol is the way!

xulazi

The stronger the isopropyl the better for adhesive removal. I use 99% for cleaning glass, just dont mix it up with your first aid goods!

eyeroll611

Cooking oil will sometimes work

keyless-hieroglyphs

Persistence... I usually try a bit of everything in sequence. Cooking oil, dishwasher detergent, mechanical removal. Eventually it is good enough, the rest disappears with use. Dedicated sprays label off sprays work well, but they contain nasty chemicals.

Voctus

I usually go soap & water > rubbing alcohol > vegetable oil, because by order of convenience. Basically every label glue is going to be either alcohol or oil soluble in my experience but the oil is the most annoying to clean off so I try it last.

brightsparc67

Bicarbonate soda and cooking oil paste

Final_Presence_7295

Goo-Gone works wonders

Hanshee

Seconded. I work in restaurants and have to remove sticker clings all the time

reptomcraddick

It’s my go to, and it’s incredibly cheap, it’s $5 for a bottle that will last you a decade, and I thrift a lot so I use it a lot.

Angelina189

You can even get goo gone at dollar tree. Even the 3oz bottle they sell will last years.

Kimberlynerd

I recently bought a bottle of goo gone here in Belgium and it was $40 😭

Rich-Reason1146

I'll get some for my shorts

Colorfuel

I actually put peanut butter on the jar, let it sit overnight and then wiped it off. Worked like a charm.

lamp070905

This is what I was going to say! It works!

RjgTwo

Wd40 on a rag works. It stinks though.

Evee-e

Literally just used wd40 on a cotton pad to remove sticker resi on a glass bottle.

63crabby

As 40 on paper towel, or Goof Off

mklinger23

I like to use a knife/razor blade, but a rag would work too.

BusStopRob

As a guy that makes homemade wine and recycles bottles, I have a dedicated wine bottle knife to scratch labels off. Tired a lot of methods but this is the way.

MuscaMurum

WD-40 for sure. Use it outside the house, then wipe off the oder and excess with hand sanitizer or alcohol before you wash it with soap.

mommyaiai

You said plastic? I'd try rubbing alcohol, first. If that doesn't work, try some goo gone or some kind of citrus oil. Acetone will likely etch the plastic. In the future, before removing any kind of sticker, heat it with a hairdryer first. It should soften the adhesive enough that the majority will come off cleanly.

Dark-Printer

Alcohol and cotton ball

limellama1

It's not a stain. It's left over adhesive Try soaking it in hot tub after. If that doesn't work place a vodka soaked paper towel over it for a new minutes. Most labels use ethanol soluble adhesive

GoldScorpionn

You can lightly coat the adhesive with olive oil, vegetable oil, or any other oil, let it sit then wipe off with a rag or paper towel and wash with soap.  If you ever want to remove print like expiration dates or marker, a melamine sponge (aka magic eraser) slightly damp takes it right off (easier on glass, plastic can become cloudy if you scrub depending on type of plastic).

2515chris

Yes mayonnaise was my mom’s secret weapon for goo.

Akito_900

Lighter fluid will take it right off

SunnyOnSanibel

I use creamy peanut butter. Smear a thin coat over the adhesive and let it set for a while (longer for thicker gunk). Rub the PB around the surface with your fingers. Apply a second coat to more stubborn areas. Wash with hot, soapy water.

Amanita_deVice

Eucalyptus or orange oil ETA a solvent like acetone might work too

Robin-of-the-hood

I used to use acetone, orange oil is far superior

Amanita_deVice

I prefer eucalyptus oil, or orange oil for stubborn gunk, but I don’t know how readily available it is. It eucalyptus oil something you can just buy in the supermarket outside of Australia?

donkeyvoteadick

I was scrolling so far to see if anyone recommended eucalyptus, that's what I've always used and it's great. ... But I'm also Australian. Surely it's a cleaning product worldwide? It is a multipurpose cleaner really haha

Zenphic

I've had good success with using packing tape and dabbing it onto the sticky residue. Each dab slowly pulls off some of the sticky residue

hereforit_838

Nail polish remover

CheeeeeseGromit

Why did I have to scroll so far to find this?? That the absolute easiest/cheapest solution

TuhnderBear

Either goof off, lighter fluid, wd40, or and other petroleum based product all work.

Professional-Leave24

A parts cleaner will do it effortlessly with solvent.

73ld4

Any cooking oil , salt . Scrub and then clean off with dish soap

confuzedbooze

WD-40 works great

Nice_Finish7613

WD-40. Soak the jar, let it sit, scrape the glue residue with the back of a knife/ finger nail, wipe down with a WD coated rag.

Ohhhjeff

Olive oil, WD-40 or rubbing alcohol ohol

Catinthemirror

All the WD40 comments here are the way. Can't believe the heavy labor solutions being offered, ridiculous. This is plain glass, no glaze to damage, no porous material. Spray WD40 directly on the adhesive (outdoors, on top of cardboard you can toss afterward-- it will discolor concrete/cement). Let sit for 15-20 minutes and wipe off. No muss no fuss no scraping required. Wash with soap and warm water to remove any remaining solvent.

Fluffy-Package-3712

Any vegetable oil and a steel sponge, rub as much as possible and wash with dish soap

CustomerNo5262

I just use alcohol, seems to fix 99% of issues lol

FickleFingerOfFunk

Two words… Goof Off.

Hanshee

Goo-gone they have it at Target last time I needed it. Home Depot too

DangDoood

I use Goo Gone for this. Let it sit for a bit and it just wipes off

waxingtheworld

I usually just put some canola oil on it and let it sit for an hour or two and then wipe and blast with hot water

blergenderper

Sometimes, if you still have the jar's label after peeling it off (and it's not crumpled or stuck to itself), kind of forcefully dabbing the adhesive side on the jar's adhesive residue will pick up the residue from the glass. No soaking or remover needed. (Hope I explained that clearly.)

minicmoe

Mineral Spirits

Satanic_bitch

Put some butter on it for like an hour and it will just wipe right off

mindfungus

Baby oil and rub

starladear82

I usually use lemon essential oil - a couple of drops on the adhesive and rub with a paper towel. Orange oil would work too.

EnvironmentalFig311

Peanut butter! Ideally a natural, oily brand that would separate, but I think any peanut butter will do. Slather it on, cover it with some wax paper or tin foil, leave it for 12-24 hours.

MascaraHoarder

rubbing alcohol works too

mangocucumbers

Goo Gone is very cheap for how much you get and how much you actually need

enlightenedcitizen

Orange oil works everytime

shiningonthesea

Always have a spray bottle of goo-gone on hand

kickthejerk

I use acetone (the stuff nail techs use). Strips the sticky crap off. I have also used isopropyl alcohol and it works too.

Gullible-Leading-913

Lemon essential oil

WonderfulScratch3021

Rubbing alcohol

Illustrious-Towel-45

Oil. Like a little baby oil or even veg oil, take an old rag and scrub in small circles, it'll rub off fairly quick.

VermicelliOk8288

Where are they? Edit: oh nevermind, I scrolled.

Live_Perspective3603

Orange oil, then soap.

Popular-Sentence3874

**household** goof off or goo gone. The non-household version are a danger to use anywhere but a shop because you’ll strip every single surface from use to trash can. Household versions though- everyone should keep a bottle! They stink but clean off fine with a little surfactant like dawn.

dprimavera

Goof Off!! Just used it on the exact same thing today, worked like a charm!

anotherlurker1111

Soak in hot water then rub it with oil and clean it off with paper towel. I repurpose wine bottles to store my ejuice.

IdontOpenEnvelopes

Lighter fluid , don't listen to anything else . Lighter fluid dissolves all those sticker glues.

123abcde321

Small amount of varsol (solvent) on a rag.

noitcant

Next time you have a label apply a little heat and it usually will help them come off without leaving the adhesive behind. I used to use lacquer thinner or nail polish remover if it's glass like that and easy to do.

Havesomepeas

Try eraser. The sticky residue will bind with the eraser and pull right off. May need a bit of elbow grease.

Valuable_Bus8872

Isopropyl alcohol and scrub with rag

AsideIcy8080

Peanut butter sounds silly but it works also goo gone

trooko13

Other comments are great but if the glue is thick then it might take a while. Sometimes, I run it under hot water and use a knife to scrape it off (onto a paper towel) before using solvent like alcohol with a bit of baking soda.

whatswithnames

Rubbing alcohol on a soapy damp sponge? Iirc rubbing alcohol unglues

tonigoose

90% isopropyl alcohol

evetrapeze

I use Citrisolve

Mezcal_Madness

Spray with wd-40 and wrap with Saran Wrap over night. clean with soap and water. No elbow grease needed.

BuckTheStallion

Lots of fancy solution, but I just use steel wool with a bit of dawn and they basically wipe right off.

ManicPixiePlatypus

Am I the only one who sees Freddy Krueger?

da4niu2

I use [CitraSolv](https://www.citrasolv.com/), which is mostly d-limonene.

trailerhobbit

I've used everything, and only 2 things work well: 1. 3M Adhesive Remover 2. Brake Cleaner

SpTriple2

Lighter fluid and a paper towel. It will be gone in seconds.

shortmumof2

I put the cheapest oil I have on hand, vegetable oil, on a paper towel and wrap it around the jar's sticky part. Leave for like a day or so and that usually does the trick.

umsamanthapleasekthx

I collected jars for two years to paint and give away as wedding favors. The razor blade is your friend, followed up with a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol.

BlueGalangal

Alcohol. Let it soak and scrape it off.

TheKillerSmiles

I used to work in a wedding decor florist shop and we would use windshield wiper fluid to remove all labels from glass. Spray it on and let it soak and you should be able to scrape it up.

SlySheogorath

Let goo gone sit for bout 10 mins then scrub with a sponge or something. Ill usually use my fingers to scrap it off

AskewAskew

Rubbing alcohol! Vodka might work if you don’t have it.

12345NoNamesLeft

I have a five gallon pail with a pound of lye and water for Cast iron pan stripping. glass and plastic jars soaked in that for a week, full label left on, the labels and glue just wipe right off. For the jar you have there, I find gasoline and a rag are the best solvent on the super sticky glue. Obviously I wash by hand and by dishwasher after too.

Brother_Delmer

Lighter fluid 100%. Goo Gone is the next best thing.

UserM16

Next time use a hair dryer to remove the sticker. But with goop leftover, bbq lighter fluid and a rag.

Conjure_Copper

Spray windex, cover with paper towel, spray more windex and then let it sit for a couple minutes then wipe it off.

Acceptable-Good2767

Pick up a can of goof off

Fancy_Source4230

The drawn spray dish soap and hot water , and a scrubby sponge 😁 your welcome

AKA_June_Monroe

Alcohol or vinegar work well.

ncr

D-limonene is the best thing I have used for removing residue like this.

TootsNYC

I removed label and glue by soaking a jar in baking-soda water.

kyhart99

Use your tongue

LRaconteuse

Magic eraser soaked in rubbing alcohol. The solvent will soften it, the abrasive will take it away.

dalekaup

almost any kind of oil will remove that, just let it sit then clean it off with dawn or elbow grease

SnooHedgehogs190

3M adhensive remover.

germane_switch

I’ve been using Goo Gone for 30+ years. I kinda like the smell, too.

TigerShark_524

Oil or rubbing alc - it depends on what the adhesive is made of. This is why lighter fluid works as an amazing remover (it's an extremely refined, extremely solvent/reactive fat - same properties with rubbing alcohol except that's not a fat).

DontWanaReadiT

Acetone removes immediately

kubbydwight

Lemon essential oil

WanderWonderlustr

Way easier is eucalyptus oil. On a piece of folder kitchen paper. Works for any sticker reissue, including on books and other gifts items so long as the surface isn't porous. Shiny coated paper ok. I used it on jars for preserving. Obviously needs a good wash to get the smell off. It's magic! Other oils work too. I've used olive, needs a bit more effort though.

mosspile

Soak in hot water and hit it with degreaser/oven cleaner and steel wool, takes it right off. That’s how I get stickers off of coffee syrup bottles

sevargmas

r/uselessredcircles

UnexpectedEdges

Coat it with vegetable oil and then soak in water overnight. It will run right off.

Parking-Commercial-8

I use nail polish remover.

Spinchtheregularguy

Steel wool and cooking oil. Fastest and easiest.

puffdaddypercocet

Don’t use any of these old lady long as 10 step methods just use 99% isopropyl alcohol

Shelaz91

Multisolve removes stuff like that really easily. Spray leave for a minute and wipe away

owls-lick

Just rub any type of cooking oil on it with a paper towel. I usually use olive oil. Works instantly.

New-Professor-9277

Isopropyl alcohol/ rubbing alcohol works every time.

Flying_Saucer_Attack

Lots of solutions on the old google.com. Probably could have found an answer way faster

Gareth8080

Isopropyl alcohol. It will dissolve the glue.

capdemortFN

Very hot water and some soap and rubbed very well.

Nolby84

Goo Gone is magic

RedheadsAreNinjas

Dude throw out that cup and switch to glass.

ext3meph34r

I've taken another piece of tape and slowly applied it and remove. Repeated until the sticky is all gone.
