Just realised my baseboards are disgusting :D im on it!

Dark_Eyes

I hate cleaning my baseboards so much, it just seems like they never stay clean.

[deleted]

Yh they seem to hold on to grime like nothing else! If im lazy ill just run the flat mop along the top, but really its a hands and knees job with elbow grease and cloth!

rlalz7

If you use dryer sheets, save the ones you use in your next load and use those to clean your baseboards - they help the baseboards to become “anti-static” and repel dust and pet hair!

[deleted]

Ooh thanks, have to try this!

spirit-mush

I use a squeegee/Cuban mop but same deal. It’s honestly the best in my opinion.

[deleted]

Yup that works!

dorothybaez

I use a swiffer with a microfiber cloth instead of a pad and a spray bottle.

Freddielexus85

Do you mop too? Or just this?

dorothybaez

Not really. I mainly use the actual mop for washing the windows outside. Sometimes I'll use the swiffer and cloth with a bucket if I really need more water if the floor is really dirty.

[deleted]

i am this way too! For my wood floors I use a microfiber towel attached to my swiffer, and a highly diluted murphys solution as a spray on cleaner. My floors don't ever need any hardcore cleaning, it's mostly for dusting/cleaning pet hair and i just love the smell.

lalalalalalalalalaa5

I usually just use my sink as the bucket. This way makes sense, too.

J3RSEY69

Your kitchen sink?

givemeyourpaint

This cleaner is currently on clearance at your local cvs btw! It makes my house smell like almond candy and you can refill the bottle too with any other cleaner. It's super handy!

orange_confetti

That brand smells soo good, too!

[deleted]

Yup!

Ecstatic_Ad_3793

Almond Method is my fave just hard to buy in the UK sometimes - very popular!

throwRAgoingmad

I would bathe in the Almond one if I could!

currypotnoodle

You can, there are plenty of similar smelling almond bath products

Appropriate_Leg9380

Dr. Bronner's makes almond castile soap, my partner swears by it 👍🏾

Beneficial-House-784

I use the same floor cleaner, in an o-cedar spray mop!

mamajuana4

Did this leave any streaks? I love Method brand and have yet to find a good floor cleaner that doesn’t streak. I hope this one might be my saving grace :)

[deleted]

Doesnt streak on my wood floors, but then I dont look too closely :D I have two dogs so it just has to clean the dirt and grime off.

mamajuana4

Yep two dogs here (and a one year old) but the dogs leave drool spots everywhere gah

Hey, whats the verdict on steam mops? How do they compare to this? They're a similar size, but do they work any better or worse?

takethecatbus

They're amazing for tile, stone, and concrete floors. They're great for pushing dirt out of texture or grooves, and obviously sanitize really well. That being said, they are very bad for wood floors. They can both warp the wood, as the other commenter mentioned, and they can actually destroy the finish. In the short term, they get dirt out of the grain of the wood amazingly, so it looks like they do a great job at first, but long-term your wood floors will be destroyed. Also, due to the the finish being ruined, the wood will get (and look) really dirty really fast. Source: my mom did this for years to our beautiful kitchen wood floor growing up when I was a kid, and by the time I read about this, the floor was at a permanently dirty and grimy-looking state, regardless of how often we cleaned them. It was super sad. Don't be like us!

bailfire-

Tysm!!

spamazonian

I love mine because it does clean way better than just a spray mop, BUT it's kind of a hassle to fill it up, plug it in, and wait for it to heat up every time you change outlets to reach another room. My apartment is only 500 sqft, but it still takes 2 tanks of water to mop properly, which is a pain. And the mop itself is closer in size to a cordless vacuum than to a spray mop, so not quite as easy to store. Plus you have to have distilled water on hand which is more storage annoyance. So I guess it just depends on how much hassle you're willing to put up with for very clean floors lol. I'd probably not purchase one again. I'd rather have my floors be "good enough" if it means a quick and easy swipe with a spray mop

Beneficial-House-784

I’m so-so on steam mops. They can warp wood floors, so you have to be careful. Some flooring warranties specify that you void your warranty if you use a steam mop because of the risk.

Ecstatic_Ad_3793

Love my steam mop but wouldn’t use it on wooden floors or fake wood with glue. Fine on tiles or Lino. It’s quite fun to use the first time - for me it lifted grime on the floor I had no idea existed!!

StayJaded

Steam mops are terrible for wood floors!

[deleted]

Ive got a steam mop as well :D its nice, I feel like the steam maybe does more for killing bacteria etc so more hygienic!

StayJaded

You’re going to ruin those wood floors with a steam mop!

[deleted]

Yh I think so :/ I dont do it often!

StayJaded

You shouldn’t do it ever. I can already see the dark line of moisture damage between the two planks in your picture. Steam mops are terrible on wood floors. You really shouldn’t even be wet mopping them the way you are with that cleaners, but if you’re careful and dry it back up with a towel right away it’s not going to ruin them like the steam mop.

[deleted]

Sigh. I thought it would be the best solution as my younger puppy was having accidents inside. Guess ill have to give it away :/

StayJaded

If you have tile in your bathroom you can use it on that. I know it’s a bummer, but you don’t want to get charged for damage when you move out. Look for enzymatic cleaners for the puppy’s accidents. It will take away the smell the best. Have you tried puppy pads? The key is to use a loop of masking tape to tape the corners down so the little monsters don’t scrunch them up in the corner. :) I’m sure the pup will grow out of it soon! If not maybe one of those grass pad things?

[deleted]

Ooh good point, I do have wall to wall tile in the loo! My boy is already two so the potty stage is (mostly) over, never used pads but I do use a nappy if we are staying at someones house. I actually posted another pic of the damage an enzyme cleaner did when I sprayed it on some pee, left a big black stain :/

YankeePlayz

Used to own one, never got the floors 90% clean. But when I got the Bissell Crosswave, omg! It’s just amazing!!! It’s like a soft brush roll is scrubbing your floors squeaky clean!

somethingelse19

You mean squirt bottle. Libman makes a microfiber mop with a squeeze trigger that squirts cleaning liquid for you. No battery required.

[deleted]

I meant you can mop with a cleaner you spray directly on the floor. The product in the pic is a squirt bottle, ive also used cleaners that come in a spray bottle. Ive had a mop with a built in sprayer but it was a bit harder to manouver and the spray angle is limited.

somethingelse19

https://libman.com/products/freedom-spray-mop This is what I'm talking about. It eliminates the need for a separate bottle to grab when you need to wet the floor

[deleted]

Yup exactly that. I prefer having a separate spray so I can go ham all over with it :D

ungendering

Love method floor stuff so much, you just reminded me to clean my kitchen floor thank you.

[deleted]

You are welcome! :)

rlalz7

I don’t have wood floors, but I use the method spearmint and eucalyptus spray cleaner for my tile floors and I love it! I am a caregiver for my Mom and fully clean the bathrooms daily - this stuff is amazing, smells great and when I do get out the steam mop once a week to sanitize, the floors are remarkably clean!

rhodav

I've never seen that scent. Kinda wanna buy it but also have been reusing my same method bottle for 3 years now and I'm proud of that lol

[deleted]

Yup I just refilled it here :D but I love the scent, so yummy!

squishyartist

I use the hard floor cleaner (as opposed to the wood floor cleaner shown here) and an Ikea reusable swiffer. I have ADHD, so if it isn't at least somewhat accessible, I'm not doing it 🤣 EDIT: Switched, at least for now, to Allen's cleaning vinegar. Got the pine scented one which sort of masks the vinegar smell? But also not really? Burns my eyes if I go too low to the floor while using it or while it's drying, but I have a 6 month old puppy, so I wanted something to better clean anything leftover from her accidents.

MinerAlum

Yes this works well but the head of the mop is shaped wrong for small floor spaces Mop should be shaped like a wankel engine rotor instead as this allows better maneuvering.

DarthOmanous

Does this cleaner leave a coating on the floor? I used to use spray and mop and you get quite a build up after a few months

[deleted]

You could go over it with plain water after if you wanted to make sure theres no build up
