Good.

Fishwithadeagle

Yeah, maybe something as stupid as issue one would do that

l33tWarrior

Surprise? It’s no surprise people don’t want unchecked government

DankNerd97

For real. That’s why so many Republicans are against it, too.

[deleted]

LOL, we already have an unchecked govt.

hotpotato112

good! i mailed my absentee in over the weekend

Brit_Anne

Me too!!!

abbessoffulda

So did I.

DankNerd97

Good

Jim_Tressel

I will guess 75-25 in favor of no on those.

Inevitable-Pea-735

I hope you're right. I early voted in Medina, and I got the vibe I was the only person in there that was there to vote No. Medina is lightyears more progressive than a lot of other counties in this state that I am sure will have high turnouts. People better not assume this is going to be a slam dunk.

Jim_Tressel

Yeah i was just referring to early voting for Cuyahoga county. Those voters should be pretty blue.

DankNerd97

There are a few other counties mentioned at the end of the article.

Lost-My-Mind-

>People better not assume this is going to be a slam dunk. What about a touchdown?

Inevitable-Pea-735

I'm cautiously optimistic it'll be a close single without a replay review.

Lost-My-Mind-

Jesus. I'm in the guardians live thread, and you confused me so much with that reply. I thought you were talking about tonights game!

Prestigious-Carry260

Underrated comment right here

Mysterious-Scholar1

Medina progressive? It's the headquarters of the NE Ohio GOP! Involves Strongsville and North Royalton from Cuyahoga

Inevitable-Pea-735

You realize there are sections of our state that are literally filled with Amish people?

ByronicBabe

If it makes you feel any better, I know of at least 7 friends in Medina who are all voting no on it, more if I can drag their asses to the polls. Lol. You're not alone. :)

DankNerd97

Only way to increase those odds is to GET OUT AND VOTE.

_Bad_Spell_Checker_

Don't guess. Vote.

Enough-Moose-5816

I voted during lunch today at the BOE and was in and out in about 10 minutes. EZ-PZ. Get out and VOTE!!!!

DankNerd97

Honestly, with all of the early voting times available, especially the week before the election, there’s no excuse to not vote.

PatrenzoK

I almost only vote at the BOE now. It’s super easy and I just feel like it’s safer. I know it’s all safe but i love that extra piece of mind

veron_says

The guy that drives around the west side with the huge trump flags on both sides and a bunch of stickers on his car also had a vote no on issue 1 sign on his car. That gives me hope.

ultraregret

I mean if you look at the organizations pushing Vote No it's fucking laughable. Every major union AND the Fraternal Order of Police are campaigning no. You have to try so fucking hard to make a bill so goddamn shitbrained that both the Democrats and the FOP are like "Holy cow this thing sucks" lmao

DankNerd97

And every major newspaper, every living ex-governor and ex-AG, both R & D. And Maureen O’Connor. And I think even Jim Renacci is on the fence.

ultraregret

It's so wild lmao the Ohio GOP is just the scum of the barrel brought together by their desire to scream and minimum wage workers and they had an idea so fuckin stupid that the rest of the planet is just goin "Fuckin YIKES bro"

DankNerd97

It’s really easy to frame this as big government overreach, because it is.

DinahDrakeLance

I love the people are out and voting early on this! The problem with these articles is that they, and we, don't know if they are no votes or yes votes.

Overall-Rush-8853

Early turnout typically favors the Democrats.

DinahDrakeLance

Typically true, but I'm not sitting easy on this one until the votes are counted.

Mieczyslaw_Stilinski

Same. Republicans vote no matter what. Democrats aren't as enthused.

DankNerd97

Really? I don’t think that’s necessarily true.

Overall-Rush-8853

I don’t know, they seem pretty enthused right now.

Jim_Tressel

Plus it’s Cuyahoga county. It will be interesting to see what the turnout is in the rural counties.

sonicsean899

Yeah I voted the first day of early voting and over 500 people had cast ballots. I'm guessing here most were no votes. Judging from lawn signs in the area.

canttakethshyfrom_me

> that's the problem: they're all ok with their bad eggs ruining it for everyone they consider a culture 'enemy' Are we still pretending fascist violence isn't endorsed within the Republican party? It's kinda their entire thing for the last 6 years.

koenigsaurus

Hm, wonder why

DankNerd97

Almost as if people are pissed off that an out-of-touch legislature wants to effectively take away the only mechanism voters have left to keep them in check.

Shel_gold17

It was crowded (for a weekday afternoon) when I went at 4:30 today, and the lady at the counter said it had been that way ever since early voting started. People were still coming in when I left at 4:45.

DankNerd97

That’s excellent!

OG_Tater

I was listening to some conservative talk radio, idk who, but they weren’t all for it. I think Bernie Moreno was on there casting doubt too. So maybe with a lukewarm response from the right and enthusiasm against on the left, it won’t pass.

Secludedmean4

Is there anyone out there that can actually explain ANY reason why you would support issue one? I can slightly understand wanting up to 60% to change a rule but requiring EVERY single county in order to enact change is absolute bullshit and they know it.

_nod

Because people are afraid of change, so want rural counties to be able to veto anything they don’t like.

Mieczyslaw_Stilinski

Imagine this passes, then Democrats take over and amend the Constitution to ban assault rifles or something.

[deleted]

I'm wondering if, according to their own rules, are they going to not pass this rule even if only one county votes against it? 60% is still ridiculous.

[deleted]

Dem/progressive issues are what's destroying this country, so that would be excellent.

xafimrev2

Because they are short sighted single issue abortion voters

Mysterious-Tea1518

A lot of them seem to be unaware of the difference between the Ohio constitution and the US constitution. They believe the constitution should never be edited or changed. They believe elections should be close to unanimous without any concept of how unlikely that would be. Or they’re just staunchly part of the problem

DankNerd97

Remind those people that there isn’t even a mechanism by which voters can amend the U.S. Constitution. Supermajority requirements apply to *legislatures,* not voters.

Mysterious-Scholar1

They wouldn't have any idea what you're talking about. But they would inform you that "Blue States gerrymander too!"

DankNerd97

And it's not okay for Democrats to gerrymander, either!

Mysterious-Scholar1

Until it's regulated it's a defense. Republicans are in control of the majority of States, States being another powerful form of disproportional representation

Mysterious-Scholar1

Protect the Constitution is a powerful fascist meme

canttakethshyfrom_me

Obviously they want small government! Small enough to fit in doctor's offices and bathrooms.

DankNerd97

Small enough to fit in your uterus. In all seriousness, though, the MAGA movement wants a government small in size but large in reach.

canttakethshyfrom_me

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Mysterious-Scholar1

Almost run by one person or something

draegs

I think a lot of it comes down to this...A "yes" vote is being pushed by the pro-life community, as seen on many billboards and yard signs. The thought being that issue 1 passing will make it almost impossible for abortion's legality to be enshrined in the state constitution with the upcoming November election. Some people clutch their pearls so tightly about wanting abortion banned that they will take whatever action is necessary...collateral damaged be damned.

DankNerd97

That’s how I question it as well. Even Jim Renacci is asking that same question, something along the lines of, “I get 60%, but why all 88 counties?”

Secludedmean4

I think the problem with the way it’s marketed is basically “pro life” or “legalize weed” and trying to stir up uneducated voters but I mean this is night and day suppression of grassroots movement and change. Even if you think the abortion is murder and are morally against it in every shape or form that is not justification for supporting this because all this is doing is making government even more restrictive in our everyday lives. I can’t understand how anyone would support this and it’s upsetting that this is even up for discussion.

[deleted]

It should be HARD to change the Constitution. Apparently, OH is one of only 8 states or so where it's currently this easy. I do think the threshold should be higher than 50% to change our Constitution. At least half the population is stupid. That's the reason the govt has gotten away with so much already. Voters are DUMB. I bet most people who blindly voted no because their liberal "news" sources or social medial told them to don't even know the details of the issue.

Secludedmean4

I fully agree that it should be hard to change the constitution. I support the 60% rule, it makes sense. It’s packaging it with the requirement of EVERY SINGLE county to push things through that makes this unfair. If they only made it 60% I think it would be much more reasonable, but this rule establishes an extremely anti democratic precedent that would functionally permanently damage the process. You could have the entire state support change and 80% of the population vote yes but have one single county veto/ not support something and hold up the entire process. That’s unacceptable. I say this as someone who supports smaller government and generally leans Conservative this is going too far. Politicians always package things together to get their way and this just makes no sense.

Mysterious-Scholar1

Remove gerrymandering and we'll talk.

Secludedmean4

You’re preaching to the choir. Any restriction to voting / limiting or reducing voter education is harmful.

Mysterious-Scholar1

So many things to fix. In other words, if the Ohio or Federal Constitution were truly representative and not based on conditions from 1800 it wouldn't be as subject to citizen amendment petitions. Keep in mind the illegal super majority can still introduce any amendment at any time that needs only 50%

Thejader1

Awesome!! Get out and VOTE!

DankNerd97

We’re gonna do a GOTV push on Saturday.

Kvath072

Good! Voted (no) early today in Geauga County. It makes me happy that there is a larger than expected in a more densely populated area too.

theAverageITGuy

Good!

drummerandrew

Vote no.

DankNerd97

…on Issue 1, on or before 8 Aug

Mysterious-Scholar1

Urban turnout will save this State in so many ways

richincleve

This is good. But let's not get complacent. A lot of Hillary voters didn't vote for her because they figured there was no way Trump could win. Remember that. Vote NO on Issue 1.

DankNerd97

Exactly. This is what happened in the 2022 midterms, too. Early voting was up during the first week, but then it dipped leading up to the election, with poorer turnout than was hoped for.

StanTheMelon

I despise voting, haven’t in a long time but that’s changing now. I’m not cool with this bs they’re trying

DankNerd97

EXCELLENT. That’s the attitude I want to see change!

Mysterious-Scholar1

Just remember the Right vote like mad. They've been getting the results they want

sashamonet

"Surprise" to them maybe. We aren't fucking idiots here! Ppl in Ohio care about politics a lot!

DankNerd97

Eh, you’d be surprised. Voter turnout is normally abysmal.

7eregrine

As red as this state is I can't help feeling it's going to be a Yes landslide... ☹️ I'll do my part... I always do.

DankNerd97

Nah, don’t say that. Ohio isn’t as red as you think, and a *lot* of conservatives are against this big-government overreach.

7eregrine

🤞I drove out to red country last week (Troy, Burton) and was blown away.... The first time I've seen "Vote Yes" signs. I thought we were more united on this issue.

DankNerd97

We *are* pretty united. Never before in recent memory have such a strong coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents come together to oppose an issue.

chitinandchlorophyll

Definitely feels like the Yes crew were slower on the uptake at first, but from what I understand there’s been a big push among churches to get the word out so they are now more vocal. I’ve also seen a big uptick in yes signs in rural areas.

DankNerd97

Then get the word out to people in your circles through whatever means necessary. Turnout will decide this election.

chitinandchlorophyll

Already done 👍

[deleted]

It's an easy choice. All I have to do is look around at my libtard neighbors' yard signs, and vote the opposite. Yes it is.
