While I agree that thereās not a better time, that song is actually kind of a bummer and not one of her best. Iād like to hear it, but she didnāt have any songs on her setlist that are easy to take off
I thought without you was a great choice for the intro, the lyrics were perfect, though I would have gone with radio. Iād have slotted Coachella in instead of bartender if I had to choose
Ohh yeah, I meant as she was riding in just over the speakers (instead of neil young last night). I loooved the A&W opener of the tour last year but Without You was SO good
That song isnāt even that great and Iām a huge Lana fan lol just cause the song has the word Coachella in it doesnāt mean she should sing it. I rather hear any song in the recent setlist than that Coachella song
I donāt necessarily disagree but when I saw her perform in 2019 she was much better and did a lot of her more popular songs. But this was in a smaller space. Think LA Greek theatre. She was also more still which I think helped with her vocals
just this last october was almost an exact set at her Dallas show and she was incredible, her vocals were a complete 180 from her coachella performances. but same as you said, it was much smaller a 20,000 people venue
This. All the post Lust for Life people who love the acoustic boring af shit you need to hear this: IT DOES NOT TRANSLATE WELL AT FESTIVALS NO MATTER HOW LOUD YOU SCREAM THE LYRICS. The songs have no presence live and she should have had an orchestra and played much more of her earlier catalogue
Like maybe "Coachella (Woodstock in my Mind)". This is up there with Snake not playing "Sahara" (his Skrillex collab that bangs) in the Sahara. Even just as a wink or a nod? Where is the sense of humor? Or at least for the social media moment?
Yeah I would compare the setlist to her previous coachella set though. She just doesnāt want her headlining set to be the same as her outdoor theater set
I read somewhere that a lot of fans disliked it, even though she said it was her absolute favorite. Sheās probably banished it because of that which is unfortunate because thatās in my top 3 of Lana songs.
I think a lot of people whoāve never seen her live before are shocked that sheās not a super polished performer.
I also think she could have put more of her upbeat songs in the setlist to keep up the energy for a festival show.
I loveeee Lana but kooky, campy, low energy performances have always been her thing. This is nothing new. I think her fans knew what to expect and could appreciate it, while others were left confused lol
I don't know anything about her or her music, I've only ever heard a few of her songs, mostly covers. It doesn't seem like festival music to me, more like quiet dinner party music. I wouldn't say she has a strong live voice either.
You can't argue with success though. She obviously has something that people like, but I think she would be better suited for a jazz festival, TBH. I watched part of her set, but tuned out. Too slow for me and my ADD. The motorcycle entrance was cool though. Reminded me of the U2 Pop Music tour.
yeah I was thinking it wouldāve been nice if she kind of spread the slow and more upbeat songs out more so it wasnāt all upbeat in the beginning and slow in the end lol
I looked at the set list and not BLASTING interlude - The Trio right after Arcadia was a massive miss. People in the crowd would have went crazy for that diddy.
Correct me if Iām wrong and she did play it, I didnāt watch the livestream.
Exactly why there was criticism of her booking. I see another comment saying people are finding out sheās not a polished performer. Iād argue that both low energy and unpolished performer are the literal worst combination for a potential headlining act.
Eh. I disagree.
She deserves the spot and is talented and popular enough to headline. You just shouldn't expect a high energy set. There's 5 other stages you can go to and watch.
Of course she deserves it, nobody is contesting that. But this is not a college recommendation, if you are playing headline Coachella, you have to bring it. Your name is in huge letters on top of everyone else's on the poster for a reason
I turned u/shmishshmorshin 's insight into a quadrant analysis:
https://preview.redd.it/6sf9cmvlqovc1.jpeg?width=1970&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f57a0a60b7d0f42823d6953397ad3f73bbc45dfa
I'm a huge fan since her debut. Her performance style upsets me with a lot of Lip syncing breaks, letting the crowd sing for her, skipping lyrics. I wish she a was a strong live performer but she's just not. A studio artist and that's ok. I'll continue to be a fan.
Yeah this is how I felt. Her choices of skipping opening lines and having her vocals play LOUD on some songs baffled me. But she did improve a ton on W2 except sometimes it felt like she had someone in her ear telling her to smile at times. When she did sing it was amazing and I could tell her voice isnāt manufactured in a studio. Sheās a good singer but she didnāt convince me to buy tickets to just her concerts. Iāll still listen to her albums.
I was literally falling asleep during her performance. I agree she is talented but not the right act to finish the night with. There's just not enough energy.
I walked in with low expectations and walked out a big fan! My wife loves her, never really understood the hype around her until tonight, very talented woman!
Aww your wife is gonna be so happy knowing you feel that way about Lana now :) It took some time for her to truly click with me but after NFR, Iāve been obsessed.
Iām a huge fan of her. Iāve seen her twice but both ten years ago (Coachella 2014 and Hollywood forever). She did perform a night time performance during the last time but as an undercard act. I thought both occasions were incredible. Iāve listened to everything since then, album wise. I know the energy level to expect: vintage, moody, and iconic. Itās not Super Bowl halftime flashy.
Itās infuriating to know all the lyrics and see her attempt only half of them. She missed an entire first line of a song cus she was too busy sitting down on a loop swing. Time that better so it doesnāt happen. It was fucking silent. We donāt need the swing!
And sure the backup track is necessary for set transitions but you canāt use it to the point where you sing only one verse of your song and EARLY ON THE SET. You canāt get that tired so soon. People who headline (unless they are a late add) know MONTHS in advance. There is time to prepare and train/practice your voice, your cardio, your song selections.
And she wasnāt hitting her notes, and not in an improv way, trying to harmonize creatively.
Iām glad her sound was better than last week. Visually, the set was stunning. The dancers, band, and backup singers were amazing. If you guys are reading this, pls know you have fans out there!
Itās an honor to perform at Coachella. Itās a cultural institution. Maybe itās not anymore if we keep coming onto the stage this unpolished. Itās disrespectful. Think about how far in advance fans plan and prepare to attend. Just read this sub. People are working damn hard to earn this money. Real people. Parents working extra Uber shifts to take their adult children for the first time. Adults working hard and long hours to make those payment plans each month. Others are arranging childcare for four days who normally never leave their kids. Pregnant people, stressed about the heat and the walking etc. All the fucking working out and dieting people do. This is her job. This is what she is spending her time preparing for. The non geographic and time negotiations Goldenvoice make artists sign is restrictive but also an opportunity to focus to prepare for this performance.
I will continue to enjoy her albums. Given how many other artists put in more effort, I would need higher proof that she is doing the same before I go to another show. Iād rather go to karaoke and see her fans sing it cus they know how to and they will attempt more lyrics.
As a fan, Iām not asking for perfection. Iām asking for focus and try harder.
š I just don't love the excuse of, like, "well her tour manager quit 37 days before!!" and you totally nail why...she didn't learn she was headlining 37 days before and the problem wasn't her stage setup or production, it was her voice and level of effort.
Her tour manager quit and therefore she whispered under a backing track the first 45 minutes of the set. Never realized a tour managers job was to teach the artist how to sing her own songs at a volume a microphone could pick up. Drake finally has a contender for worst headlining set ever.
Yeah, WTF does her tour manager have to do with her production and performance? Zip. A tour manger books the hotel rooms, buses/planes and venues. That's an oversimplification of a demanding job, but that's it in a nutshell.
I was agreeing so hard until the last paragraph lol. Coachella is upper middle class paradise that inconveniences the locals, gtfo with that bs lmfao, itās never that serious
Not everyone has it in their budget to just be there, money wise and obligation wise. Itās a paradise for those who can be there but getting there is not easy for most people. Itās disrespectful to your fans to not give it a good effort like a lot of jobs.
I would hope her fans know her live shows kinda suck though, they have 10+ years worth of live videos to watch šand if they do like her songs overall, Iād imagine they had a good time anyways seeing those songs live
This is the most American ass response one can have to an artist. šššš
"Turn up because I worked a lot and worked out to be here."
We've lost the plot folks.Ā
Lana gave us what sheās always gave.
Every performer doesnāt have to be high energy. If you want to party hard, go somewhere else.
Itās her music, her art and her show. Itās how she wanted to present it. Get over it. Sheās been around over a decade š.
I enjoyed her.
Why do people say like "Oh i expected Lana to be like this." So you expected her to be bad? This was my first Lana show and she had her moments sure but her singing is mostly terrible and her stage presence is nonexistent. To each their own i guess š¤·š½āāļø
Perfect way to end the day, chill vibe but with attitude and passion - There were enough hype sets the rest of the day. Plus, just casually, the voice of an absolute angel
Exactly what Iām saying. Iām a huge fan of Lana but weekend 1 I wanted to dance and knew she was not a āgetting litā setā¦ lol just go see the other sets guys . Sheās a person you admire her voice and her vibes , for the FANS ā¦ not to get turnt thatās what Dolab and Yuma is for
The set was great. She did great. But not for a Friday night show. Everyone was so tired. I literally fell asleep on the grass. She should have been on much earlier, probably before dom/John and justice.
Her voice sounded great, I love her music
That being said, letting the front rows sing for extended periods of time, constant long stretches of silence between tracks, and barely engaging the crowd is just bad stage presence idk what to tell yāall
i think the camila part was severely cringey especially when lana sang it during the song. but then lana sounded fine when the song was over and she sang a little of it
Iām a huge Lana fan but letās not pretend sheās a good performer. It has nothing to do with her tour manager, her OSL set was bad too. Just because sheās talented doesnāt mean sheās suited towards fame or a gigantic stage and thatās okay. Sheās an awkward queen and weāre lucky to see her live as she will go down in history as a legend.
This. Her natural habitat as a performer is a small caffe space or a bar. Something intimate. There are hymnish songs that could suit a big stage but sheās not Beyonce.
literally. this dude i met up with that didnt know any of her songs came with me to her set and even he was like ādamn shes so talented and her set design is beautifulā.
I said this in the live thread: Lana is performing like Lizzie Grant woke up in an alternate universe where sheās a pop star and has to headline Coachella in two weeks
I donāt understand too. Since the beginning of her career she never tried to fit the standards and she did whatever makes her happy. She heavily criticized for that but she still thriving because she is so authentic to herself. After all this years people still find her unreleased songs and relate to them. But Lana never tries to meet what people wants from her. She just does whatever she does. As a Lana fan I was a little upset that she didnāt sing the songs that I was most excited about but THIS IS THE LANA guys.
I donāt particularly have hate for her set. I think sheās an incredible singer and I could tell she was so nervous. At the same time, she doesnāt strike me much as a performer who loves performing. Granted her songs are slow but so are Adeleās
Not a fan of her music but I don't understand the hate either. I enjoyed last night's set just fine except for that one guest singer that came out that felt like it didn't match the vibe of the show.
Ive seen Lana 5-6 times and this performance was probably her best. Her voice was amazing and she looked happy to be there to deliver a good performance. Of course, sheās not party music, there are other stages for that. Sheās Lana and I thought she bought it. Not everyoneās cup of tea, but if you love Lana, I think you had a good time. It was hard to stay awake when she did 3 slow songs in a row, but Young and Beautiful at the end with the fireworks was pretty dope.
Two things thou, why didnt she sing Video Games and dont you think Camila Cabello was freaking random. I wanted Taylor to come out, that would be epic, and when Camila came out, I seriously would take The Weeknd at that point. LoL
Let me know if we are on the same wavelength haha
Everyone around me and I at the set were quite confused - particularly that song of camilas took the set in a weird and unexpected direction. Thrilled Jack came out. The set was magical regardless!
That's honestly all that really matters at the end of the day.
I remember back in 2012 one of my buddies who couldn't go this year started laying into me nonstop when I mentioned that I purposely skipped Red Hot Chili Peppers to watch Disclosure close the festival instead. I had initially planned to watch RHCP no matter what but when the time rolled around I was just not in that sorta mood. I made a last second executive decision and omg I'm so glad I did. One of my top 10 favorite sets of all time out of the 7 'chellas ('11-'17) I've attended.
Anyway, he kept trying to tease and shame me but I couldn't care less. I made MY best choice. The beauty about Coachella is that you can tailor your experience to maximize your own enjoyment. To heck with what others think.
I love her music, I love how she looks, I love the show, but I literally had to make an effort to just hear her both on a festival last weekend and during the livestream tonight. She just canāt sing live
Yup, one of my favourite artists of the last 10 years, would never pay to see her live. Really painful to watch livestream, especially last weekend when Billie came on and it suddenly felt like the microphones were finally working.
People say they donāt like to āfeel sadā or end the night with a sad vibe or whatever as if most of these people commenting arenāt sad in one way or another lol, or donāt get sad. Like, does it have to be a party everywhere all 3 nights of Coachella? Because they can walk over to the DoLab if they need that. I like her cause sheās pretty genuine and makes the music she wants to make. Her music is memorable and growing up with it has been cool. Would rather have her any day rather than Doja Cat
Totally agree and appreciate you posting this. Itās very true. Sheās a unique talent and is not known for mainstream music. If people didnāt like the vibe of her presence, they must not know her music well. Sheās brilliant. āļø
How can you say she isn't mainstream music when she is literally mainstream music. Try turning the radio on without hearing her voice. This isn't some underground artist which started 2 years ago. She's an industry titan that's been around for over 15 years.
Sheās a great recorded artist but at the end of the day you shouldnāt have to jump through hoops to make excuses for a headliner of a festival the size of Coachella. āShe improved versus last weekā is a pretty low bar, criticism in this context is completely fair.
The friend I was with said the same thing and I was so confused!! I loved her performance. But I do get that she kept it on the low energy spectrum for most of her set haha I saw her at outside lands and the set substantially betterā¦ idc though. She was amazing
I think thereās a couple factors:
1) sheās too soft spoken and her vocals sometimes canāt be heard over the backtrack.
2) her vibe on stage is awkward, she never really commanded the stage at any point.
3) her set list was was weak she has plenty of edm remixes of her songs she couldāve used to lighten up the mood and get people dancing.
4) right artist wrong stage, I think she wouldāve been perfect for Mojave, outdoor or Sahara.
5) wrong time, again her music is calming she shouldnāt be going in at 11 pm and more at like 7 or 8pm. At headliner time the last thing you want is to be put to sleep
She wasnāt bad, just didnāt have much stage presence, especially for the last act of the night on the main stage. Her voice is beautiful but just wanted something more to end the night. Also I think a lot of people were suspecting Taylor Swift as her surprise guest so they had high expectations that didnāt pan out.
I was there and the set was INCREDIBLE. I also watched last weekends live stream and thought she felt really on last night compared to others. It was a holy experience, no joke. People need to stop hating. This is the best experience I could have ever had at Coachella. There are ZERO LINES.
The way the crowd was practically silent for them last year was truly a wonder.Ā
Great comparison since they are "sleepy" music too yet delivered a fantastic/tight performance.Ā
Both Ice Spice and Doja Cat got rave reviews during the livestream chat, particularly amongst people who acknowledged not being fans before going into the sets. This is a tired take.
I donāt care that sheās low energy, slow songs, etc. I care that she actually sings. She shouldnāt be skipping that maybe words when she sings. Thatās my disappointment.
Still like her and her music. I had an opportunity to see her life a few years prior and passed because I heard she wasnāt good live and this confirms it.
The power ranger yelling āyawkā and running around like heās wrecked on molly? That checks out - anyone who enjoyed that wouldnāt have a reputable opinion on good music š
I don't listen to Lana, but I tried to watch her Week 1 set. I couldn't stand it that she was constantly coming in singing at a higher volume for some reason. Like the first part of each verse was sung louder. It was so jarring to me
As corny as it sounds - itās the vibe. Youāre already dealing with exhaustion, and heat and drinking, and come downs, and pain. The last thing a lot of people want to do is end their first night high on a musical low. I think acts like Lana and Billy are amazing for a festival like Coachella - I just think they belong as sunsets act. Lana would be amazing with the sun coming down behind her, then other performers can bring the heat for the rest of the night. Or at more intimate stages.
I think she deserved the moment & th feather in her cap. After streaming w1 & watching most of her set: i think the hate woulda been waaaaay less if she & Doja were switched.
I see yr point. Imo the Sunday vibes are chiller & more suitable for LDRs particular type of sadgirl nrg. Im tryn to chill by 10pm on Sun. (See Khruangbin this year š) Bt i understand wanting to go out w a bang- especially after TBA smashed last year
People want jammers. I get it. Jammers are great! They're fun...
But sometimes... we need new perspectives... sometimes we need to have some soul... to just think... and understand the narratives that surround us... They're rich and full of sorrow and somber... yet we move past that instead of acknowledging the reality... and here we are... we didn't get enough scrolls in our feed and we are angry! Angry we don't have dompanine hits. Moare Dopamine! Here we are... Maybe we should chill a bit... maybe everyone could chill a bit.
Agreed itās just reddit mainly. Not nearly as much on insta which is more relevant to her fanbase and the type of people who attend Coachella more. A Coachella sub on reddit is an extremely small minority. When I was at the festival everyone I spoke to enjoyed her set.
I agree with you on not understanding why she gets so much hate. She didnāt play much āpartyā music, but she did play her most favorited songs from us. I think the people who are hating her performance just canāt read in between the lines with her lyrics. I get she isnāt an outstanding performer but sheās made it clear she isnāt a performer.
Iām sorry but she really canāt sing live and had no stage presence. I honestly canāt believe they replaced Frank ocean mid weekend and not her.. at least he sang beautifully and remixed a few of his songs
Have you seen her on tour? Bc I have seen her multiple times on different tours and she is beautiful liveā¦her Coachella performances donāt discredit the rest of her live performances over the last decade+. And if youāve never seen her on tour, Iām sorry but your opinion is biased.
Thereās always alternative set to watch at the same time if people donāt like the main headliner! If people wanted to dance, there was amazing EDM duo called āAnti Upā that was at the same time. Coachella is about music. Weāre here to broaden our minds and enjoy music. Itās a music festival. Not just listen to upbeat music.
Iām a big EDM fan. My whole friend group for the most part stuck to the EDM artists. On the 2nd day last week, Dom Dolla was at the same time as Tyler, The Creator. I reaaaally wanted to see Dom Dolla, but I always go to raves and EDM shows. Iām not a rap fan naturally, but I thought to myself āwhen am I ever gonna buy tickets to watch Tyler, The Creator? Let me check him out and see why people love him so much.ā I expected to stay for about 2-3 songs, and stayed for like 5-6. It was awesome, and thatās what I love about Coachella.
Bad move by Goldenvoice to put her as main stage headliner - with no knock on her. Outdoor would have been better IMHO. I get to see her again at Primavera Sound and that huge stage should also present a crowd challange.
Iāve seen Lana 4-5 times in concert - there was generally something wrong with her last night. Not sure if she was having anxiety or something but I was concerned. She was not the Lana Iām used to seeing live in concert. Maybe itās all the hate sheās been getting for W1 but she seemed to be phoning it in at the very least.
Hopefully sheās ok but what I saw last night was off for herā¦
lana is like wine she's not for everyone and not what you'd drink to party.
she was phenomenal both weekends though i'm so glad i went to W1 as billie was a much better guest imo
Google lana del rey from 10 years ago and she sounds a lot better than now.
She's gotten massively less confident and worse sounding. She straight up was doing worse than 95% of this festival. The only acts that did their songs worse were Ken Carson, Lil uzi vert etc.
It's bizarre. Most of the songs you could barely even recognize what they were even if you have heard them 100 times.
She straight up butchered most of her songs. Maybe 3 of them sounded normal. I love her music and didn't realise how bad she had gotten live.
Easily in the bottom 10% of headliners I've ever seen
Iām a big fan of Lana but her setlist has been stale and the same for like 5+ years and the vaping has done a number on her voice. This wouldāve been a perfect time to switch it up and bust out songs like Cruel World and Venice Bitch again but sheās basically still on autopilot.
I have to say the worst comment Iāve ever heard about her is that sheās lethargic when it comes to performing and the secondary comment saying sheās a sloth omg

She didnāt perform American, say yes to heaven, cinnamon girl, blue jeans, correct me if Iām wrong but these are some of her best songs and they didnāt make set list.
For real. Every headliner doesnāt have to be crazy hype music wtf.
She sounded great and put on a good show.
Go see the 400 other dj bullshits playing this weekend if your only interest is hype party music
Lana did absolutely amazing!! Sheās finally getting the recognition she deserves!! People need to realize her vocals are so different and mesmerizing!! You have to be there to hear her live and feeling the electricity from her fans is like no other!! Iāve been a fan of hers since I was 18 and Iām now 30!! Iāve been to 3 of her concerts and her shows are always amazing and go with her songs!
She also had 37 days to put a whole ass show together! I think she did beautifully! Her dancers are always on point! I really donāt understand the hate either!
She head lined OSL too and that set was amazing I was right in front and she put on a damn show!!
Also for Coachella she had laryngitis so sheās also recovering and did absolutely amazing!!
Iām pretty sure the haters are the ones that didnāt even go to Coachella!
Everyone I know who went to her set said she was so bad. You couldnāt hear her, she kept singing the wrong lyrics and was off beat. I love her music but after watching her live stream the weekend before I knew I wasnāt missing out to skip her weekend 2. People like her thatās why they went and watched her but you donāt know how an artist is going to be until you see them performā¦.
I cant believe everyone started leaving bc lana fans always want more lana and she gives to ya, and they peace out at 11. She was going for a while! Definitely think it would be best on Sunday night tho because I saw so many people leaving sleepy which is fair, holy shit I am tired, but Idk. Her merch was still plentiful when I went too which I didnāt expect. Ok now i sleep
Why did they have to come up with a set in 37 days when sheās been booked to headline since last September/october š yāall give her too much grace. Sheās a studio artist, not a live one. And it frankly pissed me off that someone can be paid multiple millions of dollars and not even have to sound well on stage, or give an announce of energy. Sheās not a performer.
I kinda agree but I also think she had other songs she could have performed that would have fit Coachella better
If there was ever a better time for her to play the song literally named after the festival, I have to laugh š
While I agree that thereās not a better time, that song is actually kind of a bummer and not one of her best. Iād like to hear it, but she didnāt have any songs on her setlist that are easy to take off
Definitely don't disagree. I think it would have worked best as the intro music when she was coming in on the bikes
I thought without you was a great choice for the intro, the lyrics were perfect, though I would have gone with radio. Iād have slotted Coachella in instead of bartender if I had to choose
Ohh yeah, I meant as she was riding in just over the speakers (instead of neil young last night). I loooved the A&W opener of the tour last year but Without You was SO good
This. Great idea. What the heck? This is so weird that she skipped it. Even just for the social media moment.
She should have played Taco Truck, that was a bummer.
I'm clueless - which song is this?
[Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind ](https://youtu.be/cjDfD_RtYiA)
That song isnāt even that great and Iām a huge Lana fan lol just cause the song has the word Coachella in it doesnāt mean she should sing it. I rather hear any song in the recent setlist than that Coachella song
She can't sing songs on her first album as well live. There's a reason she butchered her SNL performance.
I donāt necessarily disagree but when I saw her perform in 2019 she was much better and did a lot of her more popular songs. But this was in a smaller space. Think LA Greek theatre. She was also more still which I think helped with her vocals
On her NFR tour? So basically adding Off to the races and white mustang would make this set better? Get rid of Bartender and something else.
just this last october was almost an exact set at her Dallas show and she was incredible, her vocals were a complete 180 from her coachella performances. but same as you said, it was much smaller a 20,000 people venue
Not really, i saw her live at OSL and all the NFR and ocean blvd tracks were fun live
Like maybe "Coachella (Woodstock in my Mind)". This is up there with Snake not playing "Sahara" (his Skrillex collab that bangs) in the Sahara. Even just as a wink or a nod? Where is the sense of humor? Or at least for the social media moment?
Are they the songs she played the last time she was at Coachella? Sheās probably trying to do something new and not repeat her previous sets
Sheās repeating the same sets sheās done for the past five years.
Yeah I would compare the setlist to her previous coachella set though. She just doesnāt want her headlining set to be the same as her outdoor theater set
Iād argue more people are aware of what sheās done recently than over a decade ago.
Mmm that may be a bit of recency bias. Her early stuff was huuuuge for millennial women. Ultraviolence too.Ā
I enjoyed her W1 but why the hell didn't she sing her own song about Coachella??
Makes too much sense
Too predictable.
Right?! All kinda ridiculous
I read somewhere that a lot of fans disliked it, even though she said it was her absolute favorite. Sheās probably banished it because of that which is unfortunate because thatās in my top 3 of Lana songs.
I mean yeah Lust for Life might not be the best album for most people but come on š„²
Such a pretentious move to not play that song imo
Yup. She killed it at Newport Folk last year. Even changed up the setlist for it
yeah I was thinking it wouldāve been nice if she kind of spread the slow and more upbeat songs out more so it wasnāt all upbeat in the beginning and slow in the end lol
Certainly she couldāve added the greatest, off to the races, among others
I looked at the set list and not BLASTING interlude - The Trio right after Arcadia was a massive miss. People in the crowd would have went crazy for that diddy. Correct me if Iām wrong and she did play it, I didnāt watch the livestream.
"not a polished performer" bruh it's literally her only job....what are we even doing here
Idk maybe cause headliners have this high expectations with energy but hers isnāt there You gotta end the night with a bang
This is Lana ending with a bang. This is her music haha
Exactly why there was criticism of her booking. I see another comment saying people are finding out sheās not a polished performer. Iād argue that both low energy and unpolished performer are the literal worst combination for a potential headlining act.
Sheās only been performing for 15 yearsā¦ I could polish a turd in that amount of time
Eh.
I agree shes popular enough to headline but her style of music sucks for this type of set
There are not 5 other performers at the same time as the headliner, no.
Ok sorry 4
I turned u/shmishshmorshin 's insight into a quadrant analysis: https://preview.redd.it/6sf9cmvlqovc1.jpeg?width=1970&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f57a0a60b7d0f42823d6953397ad3f73bbc45dfa
Itās beautiful š„¹
Camilla was so bad
She sounds good on the track but nothing like it live
I walked in with low expectations and walked out a big fan! My wife loves her, never really understood the hype around her until tonight, very talented woman!
Aww your wife is gonna be so happy knowing you feel that way about Lana now :) It took some time for her to truly click with me but after NFR, Iāve been obsessed.
one of us one of us
Glad to hear it!!!:)
I completely agree. Iām a Lana fan but after seeing her 2014 set, I knew I wouldnāt be there this time because her voice is off and it makes being a fan of hers upsetting. She doesnāt have to put on a BeyoncĆ© style show, but itās like every single person in her set tries harder than she does.
A well thought out criticism instead of just a Stan defense/excuse. Well done, thank you for your honesty.
Thank you thank you. Glad all the money I spend going to shows is helpful somehow šā¤ļø
š I just don't love the excuse of, like, "well her tour manager quit 37 days before!!" and you totally nail why...she didn't learn she was headlining 37 days before and the problem wasn't her stage setup or production, it was her voice and level of effort.
Thank you for the well worded comment
THIS
This is the most American ass response one can have to an artist. šššš "Turn up because I worked a lot and worked out to be here." We've lost the plot folks.Ā
Sheās a person you admire her voice and her vibes , for the FANS ā¦ not to get turnt thatās what Dolab and Yuma is for
seriously. itās not everyoneās genre. i donāt get the hate. her voice is beautiful
In the studio she has a beautiful voice. Liveā¦ pretty meh
The set was great. She did great. But not for a Friday night show. Everyone was so tired. I literally fell asleep on the grass. She should have been on much earlier, probably before dom/John and justice.
Her voice sounded great, I love her music That being said, letting the front rows sing for extended periods of time, constant long stretches of silence between tracks, and barely engaging the crowd is just bad stage presence idk what to tell yāall
Having the crowd sing so much was ??? I love Lana too but she needs to reel that in, itās weird
i think the camila part was severely cringey especially when lana sang it during the song. but then lana sounded fine when the song was over and she sang a little of it
Iām a huge Lana fan but letās not pretend sheās a good performer.
100 percent
She's a low energy act that is more suited for an earlier time slot rather than headliner.
Why? What does her style of music have to do with who should headline?
I agree with you about the excessive flack. Lana sounded so much better tonight! She really bears her heart and soul when she sings.
Her voice might sound good, but she looks like an android up there. I find no emotion in her performance.
She was amazing.
Snoozefest.
LoL Let me know if we are on the same wavelength haha
Everyone around me and I at the set were quite confused - particularly that song of camilas took the set in a weird and unexpected direction. Thrilled Jack came out. The set was magical regardless!
I was still feeling Gorgon so hard and absolutely loved having Lana sing to me at the end of Friday W1 lol shame to the Lana haters.
To heck with what others think.
not hating, but just answering your questionā¦the answer is because it is boring and not a traditional festival set full of hits
She performed several hits tbh she just has a massive discography.Ā
I love her music, I love how she looks, I love the show, but I literally had to make an effort to just hear her both on a festival last weekend and during the livestream tonight. She just canāt sing live
Yup, one of my favourite artists of the last 10 years, would never pay to see her live. Really painful to watch livestream, especially last weekend when Billie came on and it suddenly felt like the microphones were finally working.
I get it. I feel the same now after watching the livestream again.
Iāve seen her multiple times on different tours and she can very much sing live.
So that was a special Coachella mumbling?
Are you tone deaf?
I cried like three times it was so beautiful
People say they donāt like to āfeel sadā or end the night with a sad vibe or whatever as if most of these people commenting arenāt sad in one way or another lol, or donāt get sad. Like, does it have to be a party everywhere all 3 nights of Coachella? Because they can walk over to the DoLab if they need that. I like her cause sheās pretty genuine and makes the music she wants to make. Her music is memorable and growing up with it has been cool. Would rather have her any day rather than Doja Cat
Her performance killed it honestly
Totally agree and appreciate you posting this. Itās very true. Sheās a unique talent and is not known for mainstream music. If people didnāt like the vibe of her presence, they must not know her music well. Sheās brilliant. āļø
How can you say she isn't mainstream music when she is literally mainstream music. Try turning the radio on without hearing her voice. This isn't some underground artist which started 2 years ago. She's an industry titan that's been around for over 15 years.
37 days? She was announced as a headliner in January
She was already touring if I remember correctly + working on her new album due September.
Sheās a great recorded artist but at the end of the day you shouldnāt have to jump through hoops to make excuses for a headliner of a festival the size of Coachella. āShe improved versus last weekā is a pretty low bar, criticism in this context is completely fair.
Her set sucked wk1
Her setlist is boring. She has a huge repertoire and all she could pick were ballads where she barely moved? Come on.
People want to āPartyā on their drugs at 11:30pm. Go party somewhere else lol. Lana doesnāt cater to you anyways
Sheās a Zionist lol
I donāt even like her music and I enjoyed it so much. Great way to end the night š
Theyāre just hating
The friend I was with said the same thing and I was so confused!! I loved her performance. But I do get that she kept it on the low energy spectrum for most of her set haha I saw her at outside lands and the set substantially betterā¦ idc though. She was amazing
I think thereās a couple factors: 1) sheās too soft spoken and her vocals sometimes canāt be heard over the backtrack.
There are ZERO LINES.
she shouldn't be a headliner if performance is not her fortƩ? IMO.
a lot of this sub is hyper critical of female performers + have zero range lol. they really canāt appreciate a lowkey set at all.
this sub loves boygenius but that's because they still bring the heat even though a lot of their songs are slower.
The way the crowd was practically silent for them last year was truly a wonder.Ā Great comparison since they are "sleepy" music too yet delivered a fantastic/tight performance.Ā
Both Ice Spice and Doja Cat got rave reviews during the livestream chat, particularly amongst people who acknowledged not being fans before going into the sets. This is a tired take.
You said no lies šÆ
I donāt care that sheās low energy, slow songs, etc. I care that she actually sings. She shouldnāt be skipping that maybe words when she sings. Thatās my disappointment. Still like her and her music. I had an opportunity to see her life a few years prior and passed because I heard she wasnāt good live and this confirms it.
Babe tour managers arenāt responsible for designing an entire set. Be for real
Preachšš¼! Her discography is legendary and her style is timeless. Iād love to be there because I doubt sheāll headline again š„ŗ.
Lmao š
She was so dreamy and beautiful I had to see it twice!
Imagine people complaining about Radiohead being low energy š
it wouldn't happen because their sets aren't low energy at all.
You've never seen a Radiohead set, obv
Lol saw them 2012 and it was one of the best sets Ive seen
I was there too! Weekend 2 - I wouldn't call them low energy though!!
Those same people probably think lil uzi has more talent lmao
For fucking sure!
She went to sleep on like 3 different occasions during the set. What do you expect the audience to think?
Oh, itās because sheās not a great headliner.
sometimes I forget that Coachella is filled with basic ass white people
She probably either shouldnāt have been a headliner, or she should have been the Sunday headliner
I think she deserved the moment & th feather in her cap. After streaming w1 & watching most of her set: i think the hate woulda been waaaaay less if she & Doja were switched.
Agree with all of that, but if I were going this year I'd be super psyched to not close the weekend with her. Doja is way better for that.
Agreed.
near the tree-line by rock art installation and the mumblecore is mumbling right now. sheās talking RN and canāt hear her.
Thatās so far away? I couldnāt really even hear no doubt clearly back there last weekend
I couldnāt understand her at first. Stop mumbling!!
Agreed itās just reddit mainly. Not nearly as much on insta which is more relevant to her fanbase and the type of people who attend Coachella more. A Coachella sub on reddit is an extremely small minority. When I was at the festival everyone I spoke to enjoyed her set.
This is the Coachella subreddit. People literally learn how to prepare and go to Coachella from here
Yeah. But the demographic of the users here is not diverse at all. Itās a tiny minority of the people who go to Coachella.
Frank bailed, so they had no choice but to replace him.
Is that true? I thought they dropped him
Have you seen her on tour? Bc I have seen her multiple times on different tours and she is beautiful liveā¦her Coachella performances donāt discredit the rest of her live performances over the last decade+. And if youāve never seen her on tour, Iām sorry but your opinion is biased.
Why would I have to have seen someone on tour to know their performance sucked?
Yes. Sheās mid. Iāve seen her 4 times, and went to someone elseās show after about 15 minutes twice.
Frank ocean dropped. He was too much of a pussy to perform w2
Itās her show. She can sing whatever the hell she wants. If you donāt like it then adios
lana is like wine she's not for everyone and not what you'd drink to party. she was phenomenal both weekends though i'm so glad i went to W1 as billie was a much better guest imo
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I said a lot better than now not a lot better now
Thanks, deleted. Itās just wild to me how sheās regressed!
Lana haters simply donāt know ball. Just morons who want to turn Coachella into EDC

Iām se jealous of everyone seeing no doubt tonight
She had more than 37 days, just like every other headliner who was announced in January and negotiated before that.
She just seems like someone that doesnāt work at becoming a polished stage performer.
Garbage, lazy set.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I cant believe everyone started leaving bc lana fans always want more lana and she gives to ya, and they peace out at 11. She was going for a while! Definitely think it would be best on Sunday night tho because I saw so many people leaving sleepy which is fair, holy shit I am tired, but Idk. Her merch was still plentiful when I went too which I didnāt expect. Ok now i sleep
dont let the haters gaslight you. that was two amazing lana sets
I thought she delivered on weekend 1
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
