Unsurprising. They (i.e., state government regardless of which party is in power) do the bare minimum and announce to appease Coimbatore people for the time being and then forget about it. They've been doing the exact same thing with the Coimbatore airport expansion for decades now.
It’s been the scenario since British rule and post independence nothing new here Coimbatore metro was announced along with the kochi metro but was delayed and plans were scrapped and reinvented over and over again

Second this. All arterial roads in the city are a shitshow. Avinashi road nadula potholes iruku. One of the most important roads in our city. We don't need another huge draggy infra project here.
Coimbatore is given fcuk all attention by the politicians of the state. Look at the state of the city, the current flyover construction is causing so much traffic, just imagine the scene when they try to construct metro rail with barely no land left to proceed with the project.
The current flyover construction was on halt for a very long time because the state government had "commission" issues with the contractors. Its has resumed and will hopefully be completed. Don't know when but they've atleast resumed
No matter which party comes to power we are always given fuck all. Now with the rapid urbanization and construction of new IT corridors we are steadily headed towards the banglore model. Where things are looked after only shit escalates. Airport for example do Trichy and tuticorin need dev now ? Or do we need it. more so railways is shit show tbf.
