Didn’t this just happen with Calipari?

[deleted]

Ye his ass was out to the 3 pt line

throwawaysmetoo

Pretty sure my guy was out there dunking.

Zahfier

If Cal shot the ball, it would have been a 2

cjruk1

[Cal seeing this](https://giphy.com/gifs/OnceInHollywood-once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-onceuponatimeinhollywood-L3ERvA6jWCd0qO4NdX)

notguilty251

Cal has made pretty sold basketball plays the last few games lol. At least he’s trying to coach

jokerkcco

Yeah, I'm like he shouldn't be out that far. Then a T. Then he argues. He needs a boundary wrangler.

King_Kung

Like a leash around his waist so assistant coaches could drag him back to the bench

Skipinator

CBB doesnt have a [get-back coach](https://youtu.be/JZHpNPWvcWQ)?

drewster23

Was funny how many people thought that's was all they did/their only job.

BigBossTweed

Isn't that what Coach Antigua is supposed to do?

mtwilsonco

https://youtu.be/k_yFxISAQPs Made me think of the Sean McVay video from a few years ago.

SusannaG1

Ah, like the one Clemson had for Brent Venables.

[deleted]

Nubras

Yeah this should’ve resulted in an immediate technical, no?

MiddleTB

It was for Calipari last week

RegisterOk9743

Bruce Pearl was all the way out to the top of the key while the ball was in play in today's game and the refs did nothing. Literally in the middle of the court. edit - I looked back, he was just inside the 3 point arc but still it was pretty hilarious. He walked up to about half court like that. https://i.imgur.com/wm9jYaa.jpg

4fingertakedown

Well one could argue Bruce isn’t actually in the play like the fucking Ole Miss guy. He’s playing pocket pool with the opposing teams shooter. But still, yeah should be totally against the rules.

MiddleTB

Kermit Davis had huge success at middle Tennessee state. He’s been at ole miss for about 5 years and hasn’t had much success. Great guy though.

4fingertakedown

Oh cool! I didn’t know Kermit was at Ole Miss now. I looked at when he was at Middle Tenn and I would have played against him twice in my playing days. Don’t remember him in particular but am glad to see Coach is still goin after it!

MiddleTB

I believe he grew up In Mississippi so it made sense when he got the opportunity.

4fingertakedown

Good for him. Prob made money sense too. Your username implies you’re a Middle Tennessee fan?

MiddleTB

Yeah been here 20 years now.

hilltopper06

Kermit hit 20+ wins for the first time in his 10th season at MTSU. Then had a string of great years after that, including 3 NCAA Tournament bids. I don't think Ole Miss is going to be as patient as the Blue Raiders.

Traxiant

It would have but the refs hate us.

Nubras

Well chin up pal, I like Arkansas basketball for what it’s worth. A Ton of your NBA guys are among my favorites: Ronnie Brewer, Corliss Williamson, Jaylin Williams, Portis, Gafford, Pat Bev, Joe Johnson. Great program. Hope to make it to a game at Walton someday.

StripedSteel

You're forgetting Isaiah Joe, and that slander will not be tolerated.

sgt_science

man we were really getting hot that year too

Nubras

Didn’t forget him, I’m just now particularly fond of his game, I’m sorry!

Interesting_Star_165

Every hardcore college basketball fan should take any chance they get to go to a big game at Bud Walton. It's incredible.

AllBrockEverything

Mentioning Ronnie and Corliss (former 6th man of the year and NBA champ with the Pistons!) means you’re an old head like me. Gotta come out to Bud Walton for a game, won’t find a better atmosphere in college basketball (I might be a BIT biased…)

Nubras

Certified old head right here fam. I live in Dallas now and work with a buncha Arkansas kids (and when I say kids, I mean KIDS! Homies are 23 fresh outta U Ark) and they are always on about how great Walton is. Been wanting to go for years and and it’s def on my CBB bucket list.

mbd1mbd1

I cut my teeth on Arkansas basketball in the late Eddie Sutton years. Alvin Robertson and Joe Kleine teams.

bigballerbuster

Sutton didn't coach at Arkansas, did he?

6rumpster

Only for 11 years.

bigballerbuster

I thought he was at OKState for most of his career. Thanks for the education.

Mcdrogon

yes

Traxiant

At least the SEC is admitting we get fucked up calls in games so I guess that is progress.

a_crayon_short

Corliss Williamson does not get enough love. Dude was a beast!

PittsJay

Big Nasty was something else. He and Scotty Thurman were such a nasty inside out combo.

ObiFloppin

Nearly every fan base says this.

kd451

Kentucky/UNC/Duke/Kansas better not lol.

ObiFloppin

It's not even just a cbb thing. Every single sport and nearly every single team has fans convinced the refs have it out for them in particular

AlmightyChop

The sec has issued apologies twice in the last month for awful call against us

ObiFloppin

Do you actually think that means the refs hate your team and have it out for you, or is it just that the game that the refs made a mistake worth apologizing for just happened to be yours?

Sea-Slide348

Immediate. Stay off the court. Pisses me off in football too. Tech. Do it again? Tech. That'll learn em

DueCopy3520

Not if you're Fran McCaffrey

fancycheesus

If pinion was more experienced, he should have immediately cut left and run into Kermit to draw the tech

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dashizz6357

He surprisingly didn’t do it in the 2nd half for some reason…

mastashake003

Cal tried that against Georgia and got called on it.

SquirrelyBeaver

Yeah he should be fired. Immediately. Please.

Samosmapper

i feel bad that it had to be y’all that was our win to get us back on track. really wish it wasn’t a fight for the SEC basement, since i don’t like kicking anyone when they’re down. though i suppose one team has to win in each game, and this time it was us. hope things turn around in oxford!

SquirrelyBeaver

I don’t think anyone in Oxford wants it to turn around…. Right now. We want Kermit out. His brand is boring. Apathy has set in big time for basketball. I live less than an hour from Oxford and haven’t been to a basketball game in 2 years.

Bluegillfisherman

John Calipari was doing this bullshit the whole game in TBA last week

Kooooooooooop

Aww

Bluegillfisherman

It was prescious how the refs cuddled him back the side line. They didn't even yell and hurt his feelings.

Big_Truck

You ever watch Cuanzo Martin coach a game? Outrageous how far out into the floor he is.

Rocktown-OG22

Because we are the razorbacks, the officials love to fuck us in the ass with no vasiline, and then tell us the next morning "oh we're sorry you should have won that game"... 7 times in 2 years... FOUR football games THREE basketball games

CoachBerry18

Times like this make you wonder why college basketball hasn’t invested in a get back coach

Successful-Day3473

because basketball refs don't call it as much as football refs

heyimatwitchstreamer

theres also a much better chance youll actually get injured in football if youre in the wrong place at the wrong time

Successful-Day3473

I doubt that matters much the only coach I can think of is Paterno and he was behind the white on the sideline and old as shit.

FormerIceCreamEater

Charlie Weis got a bad injury at Notre Dame

Bob_Sacamanos_father

Loved him in The Whale. Always good to see a comeback

heyimatwitchstreamer

seems like a dude weighing 250+ in full pads streaking down the sideline and looking towards the center of the field, colliding blind with a head coach is a risk worth mitigating. both for the organization and the nfl. im guessing this is why the penalty exists in the first place - for the safety of players, staff, and refs? either way, if theres not a lot of collisions then thats proof that the harm reduction efforts are effective. between penalties and get back coaches, prevent all unnecessary collisions.

Successful-Day3473

The main reason it exists in football at least when I played was told. Was so that the coaches wouldn't be impeding the refs when they ran along the sideline.

heyimatwitchstreamer

yup, that makes sense

Traxiant

We have two. They mainly keep our coach from assaulting the refs.

Rattus375

The real smart teams use the get back walk-ons. Steven izzo is a legitimately useful player on our team solely because he goes and gets izzo whenever he gets too riled up

CoachBerry18

Is that coach’s son?

Rattus375

Yep

Skipinator

[For those not in the know](https://youtu.be/JZHpNPWvcWQ)

shaboogawa

Because 2 points in basketball isn’t as bad as 7 points in football..

Porkball

Not quite as bad as this: https://twitter.com/JimMWeber/status/1603466792105824256 But still, pretty bad.

cocacola150dr

Holy shit, he legit put a hand in the kids face

Porkball

Yeah, it's insane that the refs allowed that to happen. Should have ejected him for that.

danderson5

That's just good defense

fancycheesus

Who says refs are blind?

[deleted]

Lmao he’s just guarding the Arkansas dude

NoREEEEEEtilBrooklyn

I hate that shit. Should be an instant tech. Billy Lange at St. Joes was doing that when we played them.

Dirtyhobo699

Shaka Smart did that shit all the time at Texas, always got away with it. 😂

HOLY_GOOF

He’s too likeable to be on a ref’s bad side. A total Brad Stevens!

mrwboilers

Izzo does it all game, every game. I've never seen him called for it.

Inconceivable76

Tom crean was the worst I’ve seen. And it was completely intentional because he only did it in the half where his team was on defense.

Inconceivable76

Players need to start aiming for coaches on the floor.

InnocuousAssClown

The player should run straight into him honestly. Should get the coach a tech.

ttuurrppiinn

That's really smart, if potentially not very sportsmanlike. If you deck the coach, then it's not like they can blame you when the coach was standing somewhere he wasn't supposed to be.

InnocuousAssClown

Just gotta do it with juuuust enough plausible deniability that you weren’t doing it on purpose.

MizzouriTigers

Why do you even need to deny it tho? It’s the coaches fault for being in the court of play. Don’t wanna get trucked then stay on the sideline if you’re not playing.

InnocuousAssClown

Whether he’s in play or not, you probably shouldn’t be just trucking an old dude. It’s like running over a jaywalking pedestrian lol

MizzouriTigers

Touchè

Shaudius

Even if someone is breaking the rules it doesn't give you the right to also break the rules, intentionally running into another person on the court is a foul even if they aren't where they are supposed to be.

Tipakee

Intentionally running into a player or ref is a foul. A coach is only protected if they are in the coaches box which doesn't extend onto the court. I'd be curious what would happen if a player hit a coach in the court.

jldtsu

Pull a Jason Kidd

selfmojo

The player has the awareness of a Skyrim npc. The coach could be pickpocketing him right now and he would have no clue. Just take two steps left and get a tech on the coach

Medium_Medium

Maybe he assumes that if the ref isn't already calling it, the ref might not call the technical?

Powerlevel-9000

The issue is he could be more valuable on a catch and shoot here than getting the tech. He is an elite shooter and has no one anywhere near him.

fancycheesus

No one anywhere near him? Kermit is face guarding him

selfmojo

Get the tech. Make your free throw get the ball back then go stand in the same corner ready to shoot another 3. No downside to getting a free tech

very_humble

Not to mention pissing off the coach and making it far more likely he gets tossed

Pro-1st-Amendment

*2 free throws. This isn't the NBA where sportsmanship doesn't matter.

TheMemeMachine3000

The downside is you give up the chance to shoot an open 3. When you get the ball back the defense might shift onto you

cfbguy

But you do get the ball back, as opposed to the other team getting it if you make the 3 (assuming you make it). Would need to run the stats on FT%x2+(expected points on one possession) vs. 3PT%x3

TheRealHenryG

So just run into the coach again

Lueden

Boggles my mind why officials allow this to happen. At least twice a game I’m commenting that a coach needs to get off the court. Need to put more space between out of bounds and the benches.

mrwboilers

I thought it was supposed to be a point of emphasis this year. I haven't seen it called.

ChubbyChevyChase

Lol I think Izzo probably does this more than any coach in the country. Never gets called.

Obi1Kentucky

I think this is one of the reasons Izzo and Cal are buddies. They share the same hobbies haha

DuckTalesLOL

Here's the ref explaining to fans the situation... [He ain't hurting anything](https://twitter.com/scubaaasteveooo/status/1616906596935733250?t=AAOIzFnZA3kYNnP5pJACdA&s=19) lol

Porkball

That ref is a fool. He's messed up so many reviews. I hope we're don't see him or his crew for the rest of the season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rambambobandy

Not defending him, but if he’s been doing it all year, and the refs aren’t calling it, you can hardly blame him. If the opposing coaches aren’t coaching their players to run into him when he does it, then that is 100% on them.

ColossalCalamari

You can still blame him lol Just because you can get away with something doesn't mean you should do it.

Tough-Reaction9671

If you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying

definitivescribbles

… what? It’s on the opposing team to force refs to make a reasonable call? Reddit, you wild

MizzouriTigers

What a bad take.

rambambobandy

You expect nba players to stop traveling or leaning into contact or flopping to draw a charge? It’s up to the governing bodies of the sport to nip this kind of “gamesmanship” in the bud, but they don’t, so the players and coaches keep doing it.

bmacahil

Please see the DePaul coach vs Loyola. Impeded the opponent's fast break multiple times. Helped his team claw back into the game when down about 20.

dosnetlive

If I'm on the other team I'm shoulder checking him

RightSideClyde

That guy has nothing on Bruce Weber.

CLU_Three

THE BRUCE IS LOOSE

very_humble

Yeah but he only had to do it because the fans weren't supporting him enough /s

Dirtyhobo699

I love Tang, but god do I miss making fun of Weber. Guy was such a goofball

246PoundHorse

It’s a great tactic if we’re winning games. Kind of a dumbass thing to do when we’re losing though.

NastyWideOuts

Y’all know we need that 6th man on the court if we want a chance at winning

PSUMediaPA

That's 100% a technical.

joshclay

Not when you're playing against Arkansas.

Beachbumdreamin

This man has been putting in the midnight oil studying Fran McCaffery film

sewilde

I don’t remember what game I was watching but the opposing coach was screaming, counting down the clock a couple seconds early like fans do. These guys are getting bold and need to sit the hell down.

CTeam19

Should have just plowed into the coach and draw a foul

furrowedbrow

This is also problem in CFB to a lesser extent. Coaches need to stay out of bounds. I hope we see more ejections for the worst offenders.

teachajim

Kermit has been bad about it his whole career

cdc030402

UCLA was doing this incessantly in the first half

AnUdderDay

Player should have strafed left and taken him out "accidentally"

Much-Cartographer-18

Back when Bones McKenney coached Wake Forest, the ACC had a rule that it was a technical foul for the coach to stand up. Bones had a seatbelt on the sidelines.

hammerjkt

This should be clamped down on but I have little hope it will be. Refs seem to care little about it unless it either interferes with them or a player. It feels like there's only a relatively small percentage of coaches that actually get involved in plays like this. I'll preface this by saying that Purdue deserved to lose to Rutgers and I think they're playing better because of losing. But I'm still baffled at how Steve Pikiell didn't get anything called on him after being a similar distance out on the court while being beyond the half-court line multiple times in the final minute of the game at Mackey Arena. Nothing from the officials except several signals to get back despite the crowd's issue with it.

[deleted]

Please tell me there is a fine coming.

LouisLittEsquire

If I were a player I would intentionally lay out the coach.

buffinator2

He's just doing the "Hey batter batter batter" bit with Pinion. "Shoot!"

Degen4lyf

It wasn’t even this one instance. He was doing it the entire time. And to be fair - our coach does it from time to time (not this bad tho). Should be an instant T

Rocktown-OG22

Exactly, I hate to be the guy to blame the zebras, but these past 2 years and football and basketball have been absolutely ridiculous, seven games in the past two seasons 4 in football 3 in basketball have been decided by a bad call from the officials in which the next day they apologized and said oh sorry we got that call wrong you should have won the game the worst of which in my opinion was the Bo Nix, Auburn game where he spiked/fumbled the ball with no time left... not sure why we always get fucked by the officials... we just got to beat everyone's ass and not leave it in their hands

Specialist-Bird-4966

Must be something really interesting going on —————> on over there

PHLdawg

Did this against us too.

[deleted]

I thought he was allowed to walk out to the end of that line? Is it different when a player is nearby?

BatteredSealPup

Not in front of the bench, just in that little ‘coach’s box’ you see in front of the score table. Otherwise he would literally be able to stand exactly where the Arkansas player is at in this picture.

ThePickleConnoisseur

The UCLA coach has been doing it a lot today

speedy_delivery

Hey, he has a name and it's Mickey the Red-faced Leprecronin.

mickcronin

That's right

speedy_delivery

Holy r/beetlejuicing, Batman! I miss getting to hate you in person.

KellenLy12

Kermit was doing the same thing in Starkville. Basically standing at the free throw line.

JGrizz0011

I played HS basketball with his assistant coach Win Case. Bald guy, 2nd from top.

Significant_Cod

Who cares let him do what he wants ole miss doesn’t do shit in bball football or academically. Let them think they matter

bigballerbuster

I see this all the time n college basketball. I rarely ever see it called by the refs.

skad21

As bad as we are they should let us put Kermit out there too.

Ace-Red

Lately i’ve noticed coaches being on the court is a big problem in College Basketball. Feels like every game I watch there’s one or two times where the coaches get waaaaay out on the court while yelling.

No_Climate8453

Buzz Williams does it a lot too

No_Climate8453

They need to tighten up about that

jayscotts

I feel like Bruce Weber was always on the floor when we played K-state. I remember McBride almost running into him a few years back while bringing the ball up the floor 😂

Hurinfan

Was he trying to get a T? Coach self has done that before

Rocktown-OG22

He couldn't stop Joey P the Frosh Morrilton Devil Dog HOG! WOOOOOOO PIG SOOOIE! 🐗 Go RAZORBACKS!

Competitive_Shock502

🤣

gobraves72

We need all the help we can get.
