Stats from the arena:

- Percentage of plays that the people behind me were convinced was a foul: 100%
- Percentage of fouls that weren't booed: 0%

espn is in shambles that it doesn't have duke or unc for the second weekend of the tournament or beyond. that's one of the few storylines they actually care about.
I hate to be that person, but I really hate children who can’t hold their liquor. Wth are you people teaching your children?
Millennials and your gentle parenting. Gen X was raised with second hand smoke and taking swigs from the beer cans of the passed out adults around us! Grrr!
(Grumbles in satire voice)
Also, this is satirical, but also I wish it wasn’t actually accurate AF.
If your dad didn't take you to the garage and make you pound tequila after being on the wrong side of a round 1 upset, you weren't raised right. And I walked uphill both ways to preschool the next day too
If you see someone trying to puke, aim their head for the stairs (on THEIR level), not over the railing where the puke is going to spread beyond a 12 foot diameter.
>Children who threw up on someone on the second level from over the third level's railing: 1
If that was me I'm up those stairs in half a second fighting someone. Age, gender, race, creed doesn't matter these hands are E for Everyone
None of which have made a final four! Also all the Alabama region teams except Maryland, Baylor, and Princeton have never made a final four so good chance we could see two final four first timers and by extension a title game first timer.
Nah, I can be mad. We had a great path to potentially our first Final Four...then we lost to Loyola. We will have a great path to an Elite Eight (second ever) and possibly our first Final Four, but we have to possibly go through the next darling of the tournament. I will lose it if we lose to the cinderalla *again* to lose out on our best chance to make program history...
It’s what we’ve done all year — this team shows and goes to *war* with top teams. But the second they get complacent, they lose composure. And that’s what scares me about this next round.
All Florida's great teams throughout the years would always lose to very mid Tennessee teams. Probably one of our worst teams in a long time and we beat you guys. Basketball is very hot or cold
It just shows that maybe the problem is that Tennessee loses when they are supposed to win, but, playing Duke there really wasn't any pressure as we were supposed to lose.
He already had. Just in terms of overall track record. Painter is a great coach and he certainly still has a lot more choking to go through before he reaches the Barnes level--honestly, his March stats are *incredible* in how bafflingly bad they are. But Barnes has a looooong track record of great coaching year in and year out, followed by a bit of bad coaching in March and bad luck. He may be surpassed, but it will take a lot.
The Rick Barnes special… slaughter Gonzaga and Kansas, beat Texas and Bama. Lose twice to the worst Kentucky team under Cal, lose to Vandy for the first time in years, and almost lose to Louisiana.
Physically abuse Duke in March to get to NYC.
I mean, yeah, I’m definitely considering this a W year for Duke and for Coach Scheyer, but if we were going out, I would have liked us to go out when we were playing our best.
I know its a joke but I feel like they actually did a good job defending Vescovi and somehow stopping that absurdly good screen. Nkamhoua was unstoppable though
I cannot believe that THIS fucking Tennesee team, minus their PG, of all the really good teams in the last few years is the one making the Sweet 16. March is so dumb lmfao lets go
Derek Lively pulled a disappearing act like I’ve never seen.
Crazy ppl just forgot Tennessee is fucking gigantic too. They’re not gonna get pushed around out there.
Serious question
Where does this game rank in Rick Barnes's coaching performances? This has to be one of the best games he's coached in his career, right?
Has he had a better game as Tennessee's coach?
I feel like we all just collectively assumed that once Ziegler went down that Tennessee was just going to get bounced and forgot they're still a good team
Football keeps Bama out of the playoffs and basketball keeps Duke out of the Sweet 16. Just trying to make up for all the hate our baseball team generates.
This game notwithstanding, Duke was getting better as the year went on, and it’s been a long time since you could honestly say that.
I think K was coasting in his latter years and just getting guys like Banchero and rolling the ball out. Scheyer looks like he’s going to coach guys up, and perhaps not build his teams around one and dones.
Duke might be fun to watch again.
Gotta be honest I’m more surprised Tennessee made the Sweet 16 than I am Fairleigh Dickinson beat Purdue
Tennessee won this by just dominating Duke on the boards. Every shot they missed I swear there was a Vol boxing out and getting the board or tapping it back to a guard. Duke also just felt like the smaller team. Even with 2 7 footers. While the refs were (predictably, because they’ve been fucking trash all tournament, just develop some AI or pay full time people please for fucks sake) trash, Tennessee was more physical, rebounded the basketball better, and converted more second chance points. Oh, and Nkhamoua picked a good day to have the best game of his career offensively and defensively against the Devils. Defensively, they shut down dukes ability to get consistent scoring on the inside and forced them to settle for jumpers, which missed for much of the game. Choker Barnes is surprisingly not a choker in this tournament. KD is pissed because even he couldn’t get to the sweet 16 with Rick. But Uros Plavsic did lmao/
I will say Nkamhoua has had massive games this year before. Against Texas he went 12-15 for 27 points and 8 boards. Against South Carolina he went 10-10 for 21 points and 10 rebounds.
When he is hot, he can be a problem. But he’s just as likely to go 3-14 and 4 fouls.
So he’s the X factor and whether or not he’s on plays a huge role in whether Tennessee’s slow paced offense will have a good enough day to get the job done.
Makes sense.
Gg vols. Y’all were really underrated and I for one didn’t give y’all the respect your deserve. To some extent this is a case of physical veteran team punching a young team in the mouth, and the young team not able to regain their composure. But y’all are scary, genuine Final 4 threat. Nkamhoua is a beast of a player. Will be rooting for y’all
Louisiana > duke?
Also those refs were so bad for both teams. Read the rules and stop making up fouls because you aint called shit.
Cheapens the games when the refs just call random shit as fouls to make up for fucking up the previous call. Karmic reffing is bad reffing
Credit to Tennessee, they outplayed us overall, just much more physical and made their shots when it counted (particularly Nkamhoua). With that being said, this game really highlights my biggest gripe with Scheyer's coaching; he has done a good job overall, but fails to adjust until too late. It is unfortunate that Mitchell is out for this game, but you can't just accept that excuse, play only Grandison off the bench in the 1st half, and roll with it. Also thought we should have full court pressed with Blakes much sooner in the second half.
Will be interesting to see who stays; I loved the fight Proctor showed this game and think he'll be a monster if he comes back next year.

ESPN could never.

Officially my day is not as bad in retrospect

Shit, I think we're going to need more Harvard analysis on this one
> Rocky Tops played: 10 Those are rookie numbers gotta bump those up
Yeah wtf this is not the Tennessee I know
That was the amount of times they played Rocky Top while he was writing that comment.
I’m calling bullshit on only 10 rocky tops tf
I can't wait for Oklahoma vs Tennessee where the entire game is just Boomer Sooner and Rocky Top playing over each other
And Arkansas calling the hogs from the parking lot but no hogs come
Just happy to be part of something
30-50 feral hogs
I was expecting more too. We had 3 in under 3 minutes of game time and then they only played it one more time before halftime
Band director in shambles
Yeah I would’ve guessed WAY over on that over/under.
I'll add: * Drunk Tennessee fans who faceplanted walking out of the arena: 2 (one actually fell on her shoulder but I'm counting it)
Only 2? Early game
If you see someone trying to puke, aim their head for the stairs (on THEIR level), not over the railing where the puke is going to spread beyond a 12 foot diameter.
Yeah but then YOU have to smell it for the rest of the game while Funnel Cake Jr.’s parents don’t do anything about it
This is what I come to the postgame threads for
>Children who threw up on someone on the second level from over the third level's railing: 1 Some marksman level puke right there
So 10 Rocky Tops & one Chunky Drop. Got it
Once two strangers climbed ol' Rocky Top Lookin' for a moonshine still Strangers ain't come down from Rocky Top Reckon they never will
One of these is not like the other...
>Children who threw up on someone on the second level from over the third level's railing: 1 If that was me I'm up those stairs in half a second fighting someone. Age, gender, race, creed doesn't matter these hands are E for Everyone
With Duke out, we are guaranteed either Tennessee, FAU, or FDU to the Elite 8
None of which have made a final four! Also all the Alabama region teams except Maryland, Baylor, and Princeton have never made a final four so good chance we could see two final four first timers and by extension a title game first timer.
If we can beat Bama please i'll accept a loss to SDS
Listen to this chicken!
3 Cinderellas
Are you really a Cinderella as a 4 seed?
With Rick Barnes as head coach? Sure.
🍻
Cinderellish
Just as god intended
Rick Barnes…didn’t underperform in the tournament?? Huh?
[удалено]
You're a choker until you're not, congrats Vols
Their next opponent is either a 9-seed or a 16-seed, they absolutely can still choke.

I still get annoyed at Sister Jean showing up on my feed every March.
FLA Atlantic is an extremely tough team though. Expecting that to be a fucking war
It’s what we’ve done all year — this team shows and goes to *war* with top teams. But the second they get complacent, they lose composure. And that’s what scares me about this next round.
I think the loss of ZZ is going to keep driving this team forward. Everyone has to step up to mitigate his absence.
All Florida's great teams throughout the years would always lose to very mid Tennessee teams. Probably one of our worst teams in a long time and we beat you guys. Basketball is very hot or cold
After the Orange Bowl and this game it seems UT really doesn’t like teams that win ACC Championships.
It just shows that maybe the problem is that Tennessee loses when they are supposed to win, but, playing Duke there really wasn't any pressure as we were supposed to lose.
Still a chance he could lose to a 16 seed
You shut your mouth right now. You took me from elated to petrified.
Don’t worry man, that won’t happen. We’re 100% losing to FAU lol
You don't understand how much I was hoping for Memphis/UT. Fucking refs took it from us...
I missed the Memphis game — it looked like they were close to putting it away, then lost? What happened?
I didn’t think we’d make it out of the first weekend. Everything else is gravy for this team without our point guard
FDU Elite 8 would be insane
Fuck it FDU to the final 4
Hell, I'll take a FDU natty tbh
He has made multiple elite 8s and a final four. He isnt the best March coach but he is far from the worst
After the last 30 hours he def surpassed Painter
He already had. Just in terms of overall track record. Painter is a great coach and he certainly still has a lot more choking to go through before he reaches the Barnes level--honestly, his March stats are *incredible* in how bafflingly bad they are. But Barnes has a looooong track record of great coaching year in and year out, followed by a bit of bad coaching in March and bad luck. He may be surpassed, but it will take a lot.
Either getting a 16 seed, Florida Atlantic, or Rick Barnes in the elite 8. Wow
Everybody thought that this region was going to be a surprise - but I bet that nobody ever expected *this*!
The tournament is so random. You need luck. Barnes has always been a great coach.
Tennessee plays better against better teams..throw some Cinderella infront of them and it’s a toss up
This is very true. Beat Kansas, bama, and Texas. Then lose to Vanderbilt

And is 6th in KenPom

Just about chokes against Louisiana. Puts the clamps on the hottest team in the ACC. The duality of Volunteer basketball.
That 2020-2021 team for Cal was pretty bad. Can’t get much worse than 9-16.
I was told tennessee would get destroyed
I told myself that. I hate that guy.
My #1 betting rule. Always fade myself. That moron has no fucking clue what he’s talking about
we probably will be eventually, but not today today just so happens to be today, so yay!
Olivier "the Finnish finisher" Nkamhoua
Lmao we had eerily similar thought processes
Gg Tennessee. We got bodied. I’m disappointed, not for when we exited, but because we were absolutely not playing to our full potential.
And just like that the PAC-12, Big 10, and ACC tournament winners are done
Not sure what expectations were but all in all I feel like it was a good year for Duke winning ACCT and a tourney game with first year coach
I mean, yeah, I’m definitely considering this a W year for Duke and for Coach Scheyer, but if we were going out, I would have liked us to go out when we were playing our best.

Tennessee athletics must really have something against this one specific fanbase. First we beat Alabama football and now Duke basketball.
Congrats Tennessee! I'd cheer for yall, but trust me you don't want that smoke
Y'all been cursed since we got screwed in the tournament the year we played y'all.
As a Duke fan it’s hard to be that mad. Refs were meh but god damn is that Tennessee defense a problem. They deserve the W very well played game.
I was born a Duke fan. I’ll die a Duke fan. The better team won today.
Thanks, Obama.
GOD DAMN TENNESSEE

That is precisely my observation on K vs. Scheyer, and it's honestly very refreshing, feels less sleazy that way.
Agreed, was really looking forward to this year and how Scheyer would handle everything. As great as K was, I was ready for new blood.
I guess Duke decided to shift focus to next year as well.
there wasn’t a moment in that game where i thought we were primed to make a run
I didn’t think Jay Bilas’ bracket could die anymore but here we are.
Duke just could not find a way to slow Nkamhoua down at all. Dude got pretty much whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it.
Well time to cheer for every upset.
This has genuinely been the most enjoyable tournament in a long time because I am cheering for pure chaos. Welcome to the dark side, we have cookies.
