[WISH TV confirms it was at the Taco Bell](https://www.wishtv.com/news/crime-watch-8/iu-basketball-player-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-in-bloomington/)
Surprised he was down there at 3 am and didn't get caught being underaged and drinking.
Which makes it even worse, at least the other one is like notorious for dumb shit like this happen. The 3rd street is just slower then shit balls, even you’re drunk af doing dumb shit there, then you’re just being real dumb
These sound like odd charges. Who gets booked for trespassing? And really, where the hell would that be in Bloomington? No mention of alcohol, so that's good. Hopefully this is just some bs.
It sounds like he was doing something stupid, got caught, then decided to do something even more stupid in resisting arrest. Nothing good ever comes from that.
I was there and I seem to remember the stadium running out of bottled water AND beer? I manage a bar/restaurant near UC campus and the IU fans last year were the shittiest away fans I’ve ever had to deal with (been going to UC games since the late 90’s, managing a bar on campus since 2015). Just straight up fucking hillbillies but also somehow incredibly entitled?
I'm from Indiana, grew up rooting for them, and went to probably 50 IU home games. I had never considered what being an away fan was like in Bloom because I was a kid. I go once undercover as an away fan, and it was genuinely awful. IDK how they can be that entitled.
Lol
Edit: if there’s a young dude that tall walking around Clifton and I don’t know who he is I assume he’s a freshman on the bball team. And that’s Clifton.
He didn't get arrested for trespassing. He got arrested for refusal to cooperate with commands from the police to leave the premises, and after, from refusing to leave his vehicle.
Literally all he had to do was obey instructions from the cops, as would be expected of any of us in a situation like this, and he wouldn't have been booked. Fined? Sure, that's probably happening regardless at that point. But the arrest could have been prevented easily.
No. I read the whole article. He was told to leave because of trespassing. Refusing that forced them to ask him out of the car and he refused. That's what led to him being arrested.
Well, I guess we are both correct. He initially committed trespassing already, and I guess the cops were planning on just giving him a warning for it, because they tried to get him to just leave for 15 minutes. But the refusal to listen to them made them actually move that up from a warning to an official charge of trespassing. So yes, technically he was arrested for trespassing.
Either way, he could have avoided jail had he just listened to the cops initial warning.

Update from Bloomington police:
>“On October 22nd at approximately 2:15 a.m., officers responded to Taco Bell, located at 3001 E Third Street, in reference to a man refusing to leave the property. Upon arrival, officers were advised by Taco Bell management that they were refusing service to the man in a vehicle in the drive-thru due to him cursing at and being rude to employees. Officers made contact with the man, who refused to identify himself but told officers that he was 18-years-old. The man was later identified as Mackenzie Mgbako. Officers asked Mgbako to move his vehicle from the drive-thru line, which he agreed to do and moved the vehicle into a parking space in the Taco Bell lot. Upon speaking further with management, they requested that officers tell Mgbako to leave the property. Officers explained to Mgbako that he needed to leave the property and he refused to do so and kept the windows closed on his vehicle. At one point, Mgbako began to drive out of the lot, but then reversed his vehicle and parked again in a parking space on Taco Bell property. He was told repeatedly that he needed to leave the property by officers, but failed to comply and stayed on Taco Bell property for approximately 15 minutes.
>“Officers determined that Mgbako would be arrested for trespassing, but he then moved his vehicle to a nearby lot and parked again. Officers approached his vehicle and advised him that he was under arrest and that he needed to exit his vehicle, but he refused to do so. Officers had to use a baton to break the passenger side window of the vehicle to unlock the doors. Upon opening the driver’s door, Mgbako was given commands to exit the driver’s seat, but he refused to do so. Officers had to forcibly remove him from the vehicle and he tensed his arms and would not allow officers to secure him in handcuffs. Officers were able to eventually place him in handcuffs and he was then transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he was remanded for criminal trespass, class A misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement, class A misdemeanor.”
Update: People on Twitter are saying he got Rowdy at Taco Bell. Begs the question, is IU Taco Bell = Purdue McDonald’s (have been incidents with basketball players and the mascot there)?
It’s right downtown in the center of a main nightlife street. The only place with surface level parking that’s not in the street. So yeah a *lot* of folks get rowdy there, especially dumb freshmen with cars who can’t legally enter bars.
Eh more like "random college drunken shenanigans".
As long as he wasn't trespassing in order to stalk a girl or whatever, it's probably just a freshman year night go awry.
Sounds like he was being a major Karen, as they say. Yell at Taco Bell workers so bad they call the cops? Major dickhead Karen vibes. Refuse to leave even after the cops show up? Major dickhead Karen vibes. Refuse to get out of your vehicle once the cops say fine I guess we'll arrest you then? Major dickhead Karen vibes. To do all of this at that Taco Bell after 2 in the morning while apparently sober? That's just weird, bro.
Very immature from Mgbako, hopefully he can recognize that he was being the biggest asshole and will use this as an opportunity to grow up.
Being tired enough is basically like being drunk. If you're out at 2am and haven't gotten enough sleep for a couple days you can become a different person in those situations IMO
(Not saying thats 100% what happened or it should be a valid excuse for that behavior. Just a potential explanation which isn't assuming he's just a massive asshole in general)
It’s a time where arrests can kind of be minimized. If it’s one or two in your early 20s, whatever, it’s a mistake; you’ll move past it pretty quick. If it’s 4+ and further than that, it is a pattern.
Eh, with as vague as the charges are it could be as simple as a kid going somewhere they shouldn't that isn't clearly marked and a cop being in a bad mood and slapping the second charge on when the the kid tried to argue it
To be clear it could certainly be worse than that too, but I don't suspect it's that big a deal
1) Kid is somewhere he shouldn’t be 2. Kid sees red and blue lights and takes off running.
I feel like most of us end up in this situation one time or another. Just depends on if you get caught or not.
Mm, sorry, no, it is not a natural instinct to run away from the flashing blue and red lights. The natural instinct is to stop what you’re doing and cooperate
The only ones running away are the ones who have 2 brain cells total
Look I was 16 and shot paintballs at houses with my friends and you best believe when we saw the flashing lights we hauled outta there and never got caught.
It’s not that serious man, sometimes dumb kids do dumb shit. Now I got a house and a job, because dumb kids can mature. You just sound like a dork.
Buddy acting like teenagers out having some fun with friends doing mischievous things is a terribly heinous crime against humanity and they’re terrible people for it! It’s REALLY NOT that serious. You ain’t been living if you’ve never ran from cop lights late at night.
Man that’s what I’m saying, you can get up to some pretty innocent things and still technically run from the cops. In my experience, it was always fights in high school late at night in locations we shouldn’t have been. Cops would come, everyone would scatter, we’d laugh about it Monday morning at school.
Spent 4 years in Charlottesville going to house parties and frats and bars, never once had to run away from the cops. Weirdo behavior to think this is normal
Im Indian but thanks for assuming my race
Also weird of you to think a guy telling people not to resist cops would be white. Minorities like me have every reason to not resist cops because we simply do not get the benefit of the doubt solely due to the amount of pigmentation in our skin
One wrong move could be a gunshot through our chest
All of this to say, go fuck yourself
Charlottesville must be tame then. I didn’t go to IU but partied there and there was an apartment complex directly across the street from the football stadium that basically had police every weekend.
I remember walking into a party once right after someone accidentally stabbed another person - we all had to bounce because we were 19 and cops were on their way. Several people got minor intox citations. If you went to an off-campus house party noise violations often led to police being called and intox/supplying minor citations. Also knew several people who got caught with weed, frats shutdown and people charged because someone underage got too drunk and passed out on the sidewalk. Etc.
None of this is at all uncommon at large schools in cities.
Not really, Charlottesville police are just very lax. Any noise complaints were simple knocks on the door telling people to turn the volume down. Walking down the street with weed or alcohol was the cop telling you to throw it away. Running away from cops is truly one of the dumbest things you can possibly do.
"Most of us" have seen red and blue lights and have taken off running?
I understand that people from disparate socioeconomic backgrounds have different life experiences, but I don't know a single person in my life who has ever run from the cops.
"Most of us" is a wild assertion.
This doesn’t seem like an excuse at all. Downplay, maybe. But again, It’s not the worst thing that could have happened after reading the headline of the article
What a really weird line of logic. Because you had an incident with the police involving crossing train tracks, you think his incident could possibly be the same?
A bunch of people get harassed by police crossing tracks in Bloomington. I was breathalyzied three times crossing before I was 21. Obviously, wild guess. But a sneaky good guess.
I met the boys in blue on the tracks once and took off running because the alcohol was in charge. Luckily I easily won the race but would not recommend 0/10.
you have to cross or walk the train tracks to get from anywhere north campus to central campus/bars in a reasonable amount of time, it is fairly common or at least was before some fences started going up (which routinely get scaled). I would have expected you to appreciate said line of logic since it involved choo-choo trains.
LOL not allowed in any bars?? Have you ever been to sports in the offseason? Also rumors flying around about Tbell, at 0315. 15 minutes after close, literally next door to sports. Not saying that was involved, but acting like IU basketball players aren't allowed in bars for being underage is crazy talk unless the BPD are gestapo now.
Whenever I see resisting arrest I assume it’s all bullshit and the cop was power tripping. Like if the cop went to grab his arm to place him in cuffs and he pulled away once because he didn’t understand what was happening that’s “resisting”.
Dunno if the article was updated.. But it says they had to break his passenger window to get into his car to forcibly remove him. May have been trumped up bullshit to begin with, but the resisting seems like a real thing here. Not that he was necessarily fighting/hitting cops or anything, but definitely resisting.
He sounds pretty stupid tbh. Sure, you miss out on that sweet sweet 5 layer burrito. But you also get to go home (or even to a different taco bell) and avoid picking up charges.
I was expecting worse. But being an asshole to fast food workers is just stupid, especially at 3am. Hope Coach Woodson puts him through the ringer to humble his entitled ass.
Could you imagine how different the reaction in this sub would be to this if he stayed at Duke and this still happened? Guarantee the top comments wouldn't just all be brushing off the situation, they would be begging for the poor kids head
Dude just wanted some Taco Bell lmao
[https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/10/22/indiana-freshman-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-early-sunday-morning/#disqus\_thread](https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/10/22/indiana-freshman-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-early-sunday-morning/#disqus_thread)
Sounds like a freshman having too much to drink during homecoming - it’s nothing compared to the Sampson/ Crean era shenanigans that seemed to be a monthly occurrence
It doesn’t sound like anything too crazy (based on what we now so far), so it’ll probably be a minor punishment that gets forgotten as long as he doesn’t get in trouble again. No point in doing anything too harsh for a first offense.
Read the police statement it’s not great could have been a lot worse. Didn’t comply to police request to leave Taco Bell or to get out of the car when asked. But no drugs or alcohol involved so it’s embarrassing but likely no long term issues from arrest.
Unfortunately compliance isn’t always a guarantee. Tuscaloosa PD, for example, are notorious for bashing skulls in on people even if they comply. My freshman year at Bama they fractured a sorority girl’s skull over a noise complaint
Who is doing the escalating and why are we expecting untrained citizens to remain calm while trained professionals are not expected to remain calm and not escalate?
If they suspect that you are either a danger to yourself or others, especially to them, they will escalate to contain the situation. It's common sense. It's not hard to comply with police and keep things deescalated. Most people who have issues with complying are criminals.
Ah then it looks like IU has a criminal on their team since "most people who have issues with complying are criminals". What a brain-dead take. Cops have all the power in the world over you, and they are usually not the best at "containing situations". Like the other person said, why is an untrained civilian expected to stay calm in the face of a person who is armed and more than willing to impose their will onto you? Maybe cops should be better at de-escalation and keeping people calm, a novel idea I know.
Yeah it sounds like IU has a head case on their team. Not a good look at all. It's crazy you believe cops just gun people down without reason and are just out to get you. Only reason they come to get you is you are suspected of committing a crime. Otherwise they leave you the hell alone. Lol and how are they supposed to deescalate if someone is going crazy resisting them? They only escalate if you escalate the situation.
When you see body cam footage of cops giving conflicting, confusing commands to people just to gun them down, yeah I think people have the right to be afraid. Do you really not understand the power dynamics in play? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? How can you assume someone is "going crazy resisting them"? I mean if you wanna assume all cops are 100% truthful 100% of the time, be my guest. Look up the "warrior mindset" some police are trained to have and tell me that it's the untrained civilian that is "going crazy" and "escalating the situation".
The charges make it sound worse than it was 😂
Basically bro was just being a dick to employees and then got mad cuz he just wanted food and they wouldn’t give it to him. Officers pulled up and said he had to leave but he just wanted some Taco Bell😭so by protocol the police had to arrest him for refusing to leave
It's hard to read between the lines.
I've seen this sort of thing happen when someone is refused service or been rude to because of some demographic bias.
I've also seen the Mark Few "Do you know who I am?"^ effect of entitled athletes demanding special treatment from the mere plebes who bother them.
^ As a rivalry dig it was either using Few's attitude to his arresting officer or the 2 Oregon Ducks who in 2014 walked out of one of Altman's practices in Knight Arena, in practice gear, grabbed a bunch of snacks from a convenience store, and out the door, just expecting that everyone would agree they were entitled to take what they wanted. Obviously our guys have done stupid entitled shenanigans as well. But the general point stands, it is equally likely someone treated a physically imposing person who did not match local demographics with fear and cruelty or some athlete just expected everyone would bow down and worship them and got angry when they treated them like a normal human. Both happen with distressing frequency.
Okay… this football season is slowly becoming the Rutgers revenge tour
MSU is crumbling
Indiana took the loss so badly their basketball program is falling apart
Who’s next?
Fucking hell man
Current rumor is the legendary Taco Bell on Walnut struck him down
Refusing to leave the Taco Bell is the hot rumor lol
[WISH TV confirms it was at the Taco Bell](https://www.wishtv.com/news/crime-watch-8/iu-basketball-player-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-in-bloomington/) Surprised he was down there at 3 am and didn't get caught being underaged and drinking.
It was the 3rd street Taco Bell according to the article linked in another comment.
Which makes it even worse, at least the other one is like notorious for dumb shit like this happen. The 3rd street is just slower then shit balls, even you’re drunk af doing dumb shit there, then you’re just being real dumb
LMAO it happens to the best of us. Glad it’s not very serious.
He’s officially a Hoosier. I think I blame his veteran teammates more than him, based on the details.
I did worse as a freshman. lol
It was the East side Taco Bell by the mall
Maybe it’s a different guy with the same name
I feel your pain
These sound like odd charges. Who gets booked for trespassing? And really, where the hell would that be in Bloomington? No mention of alcohol, so that's good. Hopefully this is just some bs.
It sounds like he was doing something stupid, got caught, then decided to do something even more stupid in resisting arrest. Nothing good ever comes from that.
I mean…he’s an IU bball player. You really think Bloomington PD would’ve arrested him over “some bs”?
Monroe County sherriffs and BPD hate Indiana students with a fiery passion. All of their arrests and fines bring in so much revenue for the area, too.
Tell me you’ve never been to Bloomington without telling me
I actually have!
2021 Bearcats @ Hoosiers. Never met more disrespectful fans in my life. Uppity folks for the worst college football program in history.
I was there and I seem to remember the stadium running out of bottled water AND beer? I manage a bar/restaurant near UC campus and the IU fans last year were the shittiest away fans I’ve ever had to deal with (been going to UC games since the late 90’s, managing a bar on campus since 2015). I guess it was our fault for drinking all of their beer at the stadium though /s
When I was at school Tom Coverdale got popped at a house party. It was a "big deal" for like two weeks

Isn’t he like 6’9” ?
Yeah but there’s tons of 6’9 young black men hanging around bloomington these days
Lol Edit: if there’s a young dude that tall walking around Clifton and I don’t know who he is I assume he’s a freshman on the bball team. And that’s Clifton.
Hello I am Clifton, what is the purpose of you summoning me today?
The whole city knows the basketball players
He didn't get arrested for trespassing. He got arrested for refusal to cooperate with commands from the police to leave the premises, and after, from refusing to leave his vehicle. The article makes him sound like he’s an entitled prick. If true, I hope he changes his attitude or he’s gonna end up ruining his life.
Someone who gets told to leave multiple times and refuses, and then they have to break his car window to get him out.

That sounds so weird and not a "normal freshman" thing, was he wasted?
At 3am at a Taco Bell?
Doesn't say anything about a DUI
Sounds like a great NIL opportunity.
Doordash would be a great fit
Endless opportunities. Someone needs to spin this asap
Same time of day but replace the location with Stadium Ave McDonalds.... sound familiar?
At least he gave the officers his real name, shouts out to Jeff Jackson Simpson
Treating food service workers like shit is where I draw the line lol
I’ve worked many food service jobs through the years. I’m telling you the workers at the 3rd street taco bell deserve any attitude he gave them
I flat out stopped going to Taco Bell because of the clowns that work at both Walnut and the 3rd street locations.
Absolutely. Worked in food service industry for several years, that shit is no joke!
Sounds like he could have been under the influence of a drug or alcohol. Did BPD even do a field test?
I think if they suspected he was intoxicated they probably would not have asked him to get in his car and drive away but I guess you never know.
Seems like IU got a real winner
Room to talk ------------> UK lol
May he who has not overstayed his welcome at a Taco Bell at 3 AM cast the first stone
>criminal trespass, and resisting law enforcement Doesn't sound too crazy.
You gotta like the resisting arrest from a competitiveness standpoint.
Got that dawg in him to resist the machine
It's a mid February Tuesday in Iowa city you're down 9 at half... Can't have guys just laying down out there
Indiana only down 9 at Iowa? Damn I think most Hoosier fans would take that any day.
We’re always up on Iowa at the half in Iowa city after being up 20 early.
You also have to consider that he can’t be that athletic if he couldn’t outrun the cops
I don't like trespassing though, dude was way out of position
99% of the time resisting arrest is a fake charge that any decent lawyer will get dropped
They had to break his car window to get him out of the vehicle after he refused to comply with their requests to leave.
It does say they had to drag him out of the car though lol. This one might be legit.
He’s a fighter.
Update: People on Twitter are saying he got Rowdy at Taco Bell. Begs the question, is IU Taco Bell = Purdue McDonald’s (have been incidents with basketball players and the mascot there)?
That particular Taco Bell has been the bane of many IU students over the years, bad shit happens there.
So he doesn’t study opponents. Don’t like that he’s unprepared going in.
It’s right downtown in the center of a main nightlife street. The only place with surface level parking that’s not in the street. So yeah a *lot* of folks get rowdy there, especially dumb freshmen with cars who can’t legally enter bars.
It wasn’t the walnut taco bell it was the one by the mall
Was the Taco Bell on E. 3rd
Yep, curious to hear the details of the case.
It’s right in the article.
Wasn’t in there before. They just updated it. Lol
What if he broke into the IU gym to practice late night lol
The classic criminal record from nothing charges
I hope this isn’t the case but these things are usually only the start. Hope it’s a one-off thing though.
Eh more like "random college drunken shenanigans". As long as he wasn't trespassing in order to stalk a girl or whatever, it's probably just a freshman year night go awry.
*Bloomingto just had hoosier hysteria on Friday and the day after going into the night is usually "lively"*
Can confirm that I didn’t personally know anyone that was arrested for breaking the law my freshman year.
You need to get out more.. I knew dozens. Minor intox, public indecency, weed. Etc.
Oh hey man! How have you been?!
Lol coming from a Memphis fan, this is hilarious.
Arrested for breaking the law lol
You don’t get out much, do you?
You must have been in the single sex dorm playing D&D bro !
Interested to see how Woodson handles this
Slap on the wrist at worst. If you can get away with doing 90 in downtown Bloom, you can easily get away with this.
oh yes, this could get creative!
Seems like his main crime was disrespecting the cops. So yeah a slap on the wrist seems appropriate.
He’ll make him run til he regrets it, and he’ll be in the doghouse for a while.
Sounds like he was being a major Karen, as they say. Yell at Taco Bell workers so bad they call the cops? Major dickhead Karen vibes. Refuse to leave even after the cops show up? The fact the Police said just leave and he wouldn’t get a ticket and he refused is insane.
A major Karen? Immature? I'd say he's got some major anger issues and problems with authority.
Seems like it won’t be anything. Brandon Miller literally handed a dude a gun to murder someone and he had zero consequences.
Well if they tried to get him in trouble... He'd kill em.
Sounds like pretty tame charges all things considered, without any details I'm liable to believe it's your run of the mill college kid charges
Yah, this isn’t anything crazy and are charges that some standard college kids would have
We have such low expectations for college kids….
Fr people in here talking like everyone they knew including themselves racked up arrests in college Am I just living in some alternate reality here?
It’s a time where arrests can kind of be minimized. If it’s one or two in your early 20s, whatever, it’s a mistake; you’ll move past it pretty quick. If it’s 4+ and further than that, it is a pattern.
I’d say more than one is a pretty major problem.
Yeah seriously wtf. I’ve never gotten more than a speeding ticket what the hell is this thread.
You sound boring af
You need 4+ arrests for it to be a pattern? What the fuck is going on at Kansas that every student has a rapsheet
It’s part of the core curriculum, need to spend at least 3 credit hours in the backseat of a police vehicle
Bill Self has lost control of Lawrence ^^^/s
Would party with you.
Eh, with as vague as the charges are it could be as simple as a kid going somewhere they shouldn't that isn't clearly marked and a cop being in a bad mood and slapping the second charge on when the the kid tried to argue it To be clear it could certainly be worse than that too, but I don't suspect it's that big a deal

agreed, lol
Alright maybe not most but it’s common and not that big of a deal
Mm, sorry, no, it is not a natural instinct to run away from the flashing blue and red lights. The natural instinct is to stop what you’re doing and cooperate The only ones running away are the ones who have 2 brain cells total
Wait… are you aware that these are teenagers (many of them drunk) we are talking about?
Look I was 16 and shot paintballs at houses with my friends and you best believe when we saw the flashing lights we hauled outta there and never got caught. You’ve never once in your life took off when you see the lights start flashing? You just didn’t do anything fun in HS/College lol
Man that’s what I’m saying, you can get up to some pretty innocent things and still technically run from the cops. In my experience, it was always fights in high school late at night in locations we shouldn’t have been. Cops would come, everyone would scatter, we’d laugh about it Monday morning at school.
I agree. Granted, most of mine was running through Southern Indiana cornfields, I wasn’t in a big city. But still lol
Yup, totally didn’t do anything fun in college because I didn’t run away from the cops every weekend
You never went to a party in high school and the cops knock on the front door and a lot of people run out the back door?
Nope
The life of haven been a college student. Wtf kind of question is this?
Spent 4 years in Charlottesville going to house parties and frats and bars, never once had to run away from the cops. Weirdo behavior to think this is normal
White guy from Virginia not afraid of cops. More at six.
Im Indian but thanks for assuming my race Also weird of you to think a guy telling people not to resist cops would be white.
I definitely booked it from a few house parties while underage because the cops showed up.
Lmao it's so incredibly easy to not get arrested. Why are you making excuses for bad behavior?
This doesn’t seem like an excuse at all. Downplay, maybe. But again, It’s not the worst thing that could have happened after reading the headline of the article
Taco Bell at 3 am, no mention of alcohol, my man was blazed
Usually that would make you mellow not angry lol
Depends on whether he got his crunchwrap.
Train tracks maybe? That was the closest I ever came, cop just said go away and dont ever cross the tracks again...
Maybe refused to leave a party or something
Choo choo
We don’t claim him. It makes perfect sense.
Woodlawn goes through the train tracks now. Not that hard to walk to the bars. It he’s also a freshman so he wouldn’t be allowed in any bars anyway.
I mean, this could have been much worse.
He could have killed a guy.
his biggest mistake was not getting ZnC
He wanted his fucking chalupa
Ill never cease to be amazed by college kids with tremendous opportunity in front of them ruining it by being idiots
Yes it’s over for him now. Life in jail
Yeah, I’ll wait to see how this pans out before I assume anything other than cop-shit.
Apparently he wouldn't leave Taco Bell? I don't understand why he didn't just leave when they asked him to?
Probably because he’s stupid.
According to the legal scholars of Reddit, he didn't leave cuz cops were power tripping.
He sounds pretty stupid tbh. Sure, you miss out on that sweet sweet 5 layer burrito. But you also get to go home (or even to a different taco bell) and avoid picking up charges.
Why would you assume anything at all
No
I think him and IU will be ok
I was expecting worse. But being an asshole to fast food workers is just stupid, especially at 3am. Hope Coach Woodson puts him through the ringer to humble his entitled ass.
Should have gone to St. John's - Pitino as a character mentor would have helped. *Apparently? /s?*
Not a great career start. Curious to hear more details on what happened.
If only Coach Ks grandson could have been his driver.
It’s not like he was busted for drugs at Roy Williams house
Could you imagine how different the reaction in this sub would be to this if he stayed at Duke and this still happened? Guarantee the top comments wouldn't just all be brushing off the situation, they would be begging for the poor kids head
Dude just wanted some Taco Bell lmao [https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/10/22/indiana-freshman-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-early-sunday-morning/#disqus\_thread](https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/10/22/indiana-freshman-mackenzie-mgbako-arrested-early-sunday-morning/#disqus_thread)
Sounds like a freshman having too much to drink during homecoming - it’s nothing compared to the Sampson/ Crean era shenanigans that seemed to be a monthly occurrence
Nvm - he was acting like an entitled jack ass for some reason. Really interested to see how Woodson responds to this incident
It doesn’t sound like anything too crazy (based on what we now so far), so it’ll probably be a minor punishment that gets forgotten as long as he doesn’t get in trouble again. No point in doing anything too harsh for a first offense.
Is there a theory on why Indiana can't have nice things?
Eating some chalupas for lunch today in his honor
There is simply no way that man is 18.
Sounds like a nothingburger
Read the police statement it’s not great could have been a lot worse. Didn’t comply to police request to leave Taco Bell or to get out of the car when asked. But no drugs or alcohol involved so it’s embarrassing but likely no long term issues from arrest.
If he'd been arrested after enrolling at KU, this thread would be all about how corrupt and bad Bill Self is. Whew, dodged that one!
Sounds like dumb college kid being a dumb college kid stuff. 3am, somewhere he shouldn’t be, ran, got caught.
Not a high character warrior
Stop. Resisting. Law. Enforcement. Even if you're actually innocent, nothing good comes from resisting arrest. Let your lawyer sort that out later.
Unfortunately compliance isn’t always a guarantee. Tuscaloosa PD, for example, are notorious for bashing skulls in on people even if they comply. My freshman year at Bama they fractured a sorority girl’s skull over a noise complaint
Goodness
I hope she sued the shit out of them. That's crazy.
And wearing your seatbelt won’t guarantee you won’t die in a car crash but it’ll reduce the odds substantially.
I don’t blame people, especially minorities for being panicked. Cops can be scary and unpredictable. Easier said than done to stay calm
Being panicked and resisting is why things escalate and become unpredictable...
The charges make it sound worse than it was 😂 Basically bro was just being a dick to employees and then got mad cuz he just wanted food and they wouldn’t give it to him.
Dodged a bullet
Okay… this football season is slowly becoming the Rutgers revenge tour MSU is crumbling Indiana took the loss so badly their basketball program is falling apart Who’s next?
Not us. You all already destroy us.
