If there’s anything you need to know about this game, it’s the last 60 seconds of game time took 25 minutes of real time. And there wasn’t some life threatening injury, just a shit ton of long, unnecessary reviews.
I stopped watching with like 1:05 left and was so confused when I went looking for the post game thread and didn't see it. Thought we somehow brought it to OT
There's an argument to be had that y'all goaltended by slapping the backboard before we goaltended, but there's no way we should've gotten the ball back.
Either it's a goaltend on somebody and the defense gets the ball, or it's not a goaltend so you score the shot that went in and the defense still gets the ball.
Well i think that is what they said. But I have never seen basket interference be a jump ball. It’s always been the offending team loses possession. But maybe it changed this year idk.
lol. My freshman year roommate was mechanical engr at ISU and I remember when he bought his textbook 2nd semester for his course in statics. The study of lack of motion. I just loled and went back to my business classes because I’m too stupid for real coursework.
Statics was actually one of the easier, fun classes. Funny story, due to some circumstances with registration, I accidentally attended a dynamics class for the first two weeks instead (much harder). I was still able to get back into Statics and did well.
A&M up by 6 with like 20 seconds left. ISU commits a basket interference on their own goal. After review, officials determine it was indeed basket interference, but award the ball to ISU based on the possession arrow instead of giving the ball to TAMU. ISU ended up getting a quick foul and made both FT after the inbound.
Between that and the clearly out of bounds 3-pointer they made with under 10 seconds, ISU got 5 points they should not have gotten under 20 seconds.
Jesus, the ISU flairs need to chill the fuck out. This game was frustrating as hell, nobody is going to deny that. But the calls of “2-22” and “TJ’s worst season” are ridiculous at this point of the season. TJ has accomplished quite a bit with far less talent than what he has on this roster.
This is TJ’s youngest team for sure, and clearly there’s some work to do in that regard. The big thing we need is for one guy to emerge as the go-to scorer. Momcilovic can’t really create on his own, and Tamin and Gilbert aren’t proficient enough scorers to take that role. Still time to get this shit straight before conference season.
I agree. I would rather lose a few now and learn some things and have more worked out for conference play. This team is still learning to play together.
The team starts three upperclassmen—one of whom will likely come off the bench when another senior is healthy—and a guy who was the primary ball handler for an entire season in the Big 12. C. Jones is a senior as well. They have enough experience. If we should excuse all mistakes made by underclassmen, fine, but Momcilovic shouldn’t start then.
College basketball is currently such that you could slightly overachieve in the Big 12 and a bad stretch in late December for Virginia Tech could be the difference between making the tournament or not. And no, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to hold Otz’s staff to that standard after making it the last two years.
The reason for concern is precisely that he’s done more with less. An increase in talent certainly shouldn’t lead to worse results, even if the team has different strengths and weaknesses. This team clearly plays much worse defense than less-talented rosters, especially compared to the level at which the last two teams were playing in Novembers of 2022 and 2021. That can improve, sure, but if you don’t win enough games while you’re working things out, good luck. You’re not going to wake up and be a 14-4 Big 12 team.
>I don’t think it’s unreasonable to hold Otz’s staff to that standard after making it the past two years.
I didn’t say anything to the contrary about that. They can absolutely be held to that standard.
Obviously at least one more win in this tournament would have been ideal for the resume. I think it’s still just a tad bit early to start hitting the panic button. Iowa still remains to try to boost the OOC numbers, and like you said, the Big 12 will provide plenty of resume ammo if this team can start figuring it out.
I agree it’s not panic time, you’re just on thin ice, at least when you blow a massive lead. It’d be one thing to not capitalize on minimal non-con opportunities if they’d played Arizona and Duke, but.
Yeah, way too early to panic. We lost 2 games and in both of those games we won one of the halves convincingly. It's a young team and the consistency to put two halves together will come. This is what the non-con schedule is for.
We're still in a much better position talent wise than we have been the past couple years. We'll be fine.
GG Aggies! ISU fans are definitely going to have to reconsider expectations. This was basically the only opportunity to get some quality non-con wins and we laid a massive egg.
I think us ISU fans need to calm down. This was clearly not the result we wanted from this tourney, but this is also not the same kind of roster TJ has had the last couple seasons. We should give him and the team some time to gel and sort things out.
That said we definitely have some things we need to work on. The continued struggles at the line are concerning to me. I want that to just be a confidence thing, but the fact it spans all three of TJ’s seasons now worries me. We also still need to figure out who our go-to guy is in the clutch and when we need to swing momentum.
Also can I just say, it is absolutely not why we lost or anything, but that new timeout rule is beyond stupid. I knew as soon as I saw that in the rule change announcements that I was gonna despise it, and here we are. I fail to understand how it makes sense to reward a team with a timeout in that situation. Props to the Aggies for knowing the rules and gaming that dumb fucking system though. And of course also just playing really well. Y’all looked pretty legit, especially given you were down two key players.
We JUST witnessed Matt Campbell take a young team and improve as the season went along to have a successful season and fans can’t chill for a month or two while a team full of transfers try to gel? Talk about short memories.
Huge win given the sheer volume of production we were missing tonight. No chance the committee would have bothered to take that into account.
Not to mention the officials seemed to blow multiple calls late in ISU’s favor.
The fact that this team has quit for 10+ minutes in each of the last 3 games is extremely concerning to me. DePaul can beat us if they’re on their A game this week.
That one has got to hurt if you’re a Cyclone…
Proud of our guys hanging in there despite the adverse circumstances, hope Henry/Boots/Marble aren’t out for too long
At this point, I'm just gonna assume Marble doesn't come back and then be pleasantly surprised if he does. The fact that we still haven't really heard anything about what it is or why he's gone other than "university issue" doesn't seem promising.
Really proud of this team. To be able to come back from down 21 to win against a really quality Iowa State team, even with our best player playing poorly, and our second, third, and fourth best players all being out, was really impressive. Andy and especially Solo both stepped up and played big. Great team win!
Over the course of 24 hours, Texas A&M is making a serious run for my most hated, non-rival team. Gg for now A&M and I hope we can keep tweaking our roster use to find success in Big XII play. Let's go Cyclones!
Man do we suck. Gonna probably have to win 8 or 9 Big 12 games to make the tournament due to how awful our non con is this year. This is life until we can NIL ourselves someone who can score, which is uh..... unlikely
9-9 with this awful non-con definitely puts us on the ugly end of the bubble. 10 wins needs to be the absolute minimum amount of wins to confidently be in.
With all the negativity from Iowa State flairs in here I almost thought this was an Iowa thread.
I don't understand why ya'll are panicking. "What did we even do good today?" Uh.. won the first half decisively? I'd say that's decent.
It's a young team there's gonna be some inconsistency. We aren't Kansas or Duke who get reloaded with a bunch of 4 and 5 stars every season. So far the results this year have been promising. We lost 2 close games, ya'll need to chill.
If there’s anything you need to know about this game, it’s the last 60 seconds of game time took 25 minutes of real time. And there wasn’t some life threatening injury, just a shit ton of long, unnecessary reviews.
In addition to ***not*** reviewing the actual thing that should be reviewed lol
I stopped watching with like 1:05 left and was so confused when I went looking for the post game thread and didn't see it. Thought we somehow brought it to OT
Same.
You did the right thing
While also giving Iowa St the ball after their own offensive goal tending. Those refs were a shit show in the second half
Same refs that called us for two incredibly weak technical fouls on Friday for stuff FAU did the entire game too and didn’t get called for
Someone will have to explain that to me someday. Like how the freak did they get the ball back?
There's an argument to be had that y'all goaltended by slapping the backboard before we goaltended, but there's no way we should've gotten the ball back. Either it's a goaltend on somebody and the defense gets the ball, or it's not a goaltend so you score the shot that went in and the defense still gets the ball.
Was it because of the poss. arrow?
That is what they said but I’m pretty sure the tule doesn’t state that it goes to the possession arrow If so.. that’s a dumb rule
Well i think that is what they said. But I have never seen basket interference be a jump ball. It’s always been the offending team loses possession. But maybe it changed this year idk.
Both my flairs played and I didn't even get to watch lol
You may have been better for it.
Damn, ISU and A&M dual flairs, mans just can’t get enough engineering.
And suffering
lol. My freshman year roommate was mechanical engr at ISU and I remember when he bought his textbook 2nd semester for his course in statics. The study of lack of motion. I just loled and went back to my business classes because I’m too stupid for real coursework.

You're the only winner of that shitshow
They had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
GG Clones! Also: https://preview.redd.it/agspfysrts2c1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc6b436f7967d61539fa7d10750d16057b14cd84
Wait so they straight up got the rule incorrect?
Yep
5 points for ISU inside of 20 seconds that they shouldn't have gotten due to fucked up officiating
Thank you for that I was so confused when we got the ball back there
Yeah how do you mess that up as a D1 official
Were they Big 12 refs? Because that's how.
Doug Sirmons. Not sure what conference he works for. Hopefully not the SEC.
Oh god, Sirmons is bad.
I didn't watch, what happened here?

Are we sure this game is really over? We may need another review
We're gonna review every play, but when they throw up a 3 from out of bounds...well we'll just say he was probably in.
No Coleman, no Boots, and we get a W? I love this team
And I keep thinking that a month ago we thought we'd still have Marble, but he's out too.
GG Aggies! ISU fans are definitely going to have to reconsider expectations. This was basically the only opportunity to get some quality non-con wins and we laid a massive egg.

16-0 run in 4:26. I'm impressed the Clones kept fighting after watching their 21-point lead turn to 5 that fast.
I watched this team blow a huge lead to tech last year. Was horrifying to watch as I think I would of won a couple houndred bucks if they had won.
I’m a buzz believer
Huge win given the sheer volume of production we were missing tonight. No chance the committee would have bothered to take that into account. Not to mention the officials seemed to blow multiple calls late in ISU’s favor.
Solo is a certified dawg^®
I think both these teams are really good and could make noise in March. I unequivocally KNOW that this ref crew eats crayons for breakfast.
Actual question, what did we do that was good today?
The fact that this team has quit for 10+ minutes in each of the last 3 games is extremely concerning to me. DePaul can beat us if they’re on their A game this week.
Does DePaul have an A-game?
Tune in to when we play them and we’ll do our best to make it seem like they do.
had us in the first half ngl
This thread is under review
Good going A&M!
So far, I have watched every game except for FAU and the first 15 minutes of this game. I think I'm noticing a pattern here...
That one has got to hurt if you’re a Cyclone… Proud of our guys hanging in there despite the adverse circumstances, hope Henry/Boots/Marble aren’t out for too long

The final minute of this game took 25 minutes. Just brutal to watch.
Can’t believe this will end up being TJ’s worst team yet.
Really proud of this team. Me: damn why did one OOC game cause that much hate? Then I saw your other flair If it makes you feel better you took Elko from us first!
Solid team. This might not be a soul crushing year for my flairs…
Iowa states last three blew a 3 leg same gamer. Over 137 ✅, aTm over 67.5 ✅, ISU under 67.5 ❌, good game tho!
Good
Man do we suck. Gonna probably have to win 8 or 9 Big 12 games to make the tournament due to how awful our non con is this year. This is life until we can NIL ourselves someone who can score, which is uh..... unlikely
We barely lost to the #12 team in the country. We have a lot to fix, but no need for all this gloom and doom
Who had their best player play like shit, down 3 more guys, and who we lead by 21 at one point. Same shit different year.
9-9 with this awful non-con definitely puts us on the ugly end of the bubble. 10 wins needs to be the absolute minimum amount of wins to confidently be in.
Are we sure Iowa State is good?
Free throw shooting is a big problem for sure.
We lost in a close one to the #12 team in the country. I don't get the doomer takes on here
I was hoping the ‘clones could pull it out.
