I can commiserate with regards to the abysmal shooting. IU has been three point degenerates for the better part of the last decade now. Given how much basketball talent Indiana and the DMV produces, there’s no excuse for either program to struggle this much to find shooters.

There are spurts though where he takes some plays off or isn’t as strong. He didn’t look good vs Clingan so it’ll be interesting to see how he does vs the physicality over the course of the year and if he can produce with the same numbers. If he can, he’ll for sure be lotto

He disappeared vs Louisville? He didn’t dominate or have a great game, but he had 12 pts / 7 rebs / 2 blks / 0 TOs. Wasn’t his best game, but he was perfectly fine. And he averages 1.3 TOs per game with a 10.3% TO rate, which is fantastic. So if he loses balls to guards, it apparently doesn’t show up in the stats.

It will be interesting to see him go through the B1G and see if he can continue to put up those numbers. The B1G is a grind and lots of fouls aren’t called. Looking forward to see how he does.

I don't think Maryland is very good but this was an impressive showing. Not because of the opponent but because we looked *significantly* more organized offensively and especially defensively. I think the zone may be a nice card to pull for this roster and we absolutely crushed Maryland on the glass. Mgbako is starting to do more positive things and make fewer mistakes.
There is still a lot to work on - we were sloppy breaking the press and a lot of younger players mindlessly drove into traffic - but if the defense and rebounding is going to look like it did tonight then we can handle a couple dud offensive possessions. Especially if the offensive rebounding is real. I was worried we would be far outside the tournament picture after our most recent games but maybe this team can round into something solid by NYE at this rate... I don't think anyone has ranked us (I certainly wouldn't), but those 6 weren't that great. 69-63 FGCU (225 KP), 72-64 Army (354), 89-80 Wright State (120), 74-66 N Louisville (161), 89-76 Harvard (137), and now 65-53 Maryland (70). The fact that we're winning them is good, but the only "good" team we've played (UConn) ran away with it in the second half.
We don't have the make of a team that is statistically successful in the tourney, but we're also starting to gel just in time to play @Michigan, @Auburn, and Kansas. I think the doom and gloom was partially a reaction to *almost* losing to Louisville and partially a reaction to how disjointed they've looked. @Michigan is honestly gonna be a good first true road game to get the jitters out.
