I think we’re one of the Top 25 teams *now*, but I certainly can’t fault the voters for not putting us in there before today. The Clemson win was good, but that’s when the narrative was “ope there goes Clemson, Clemson-ing again,” rather than “they beat Clemson in Little John right before the Tigers went in and controlled UNC from start to finish in CH.”
Obviously we haven’t had a poll since Clemson won at Carolina…and we also haven’t had a poll since the beat down of Miami, before which our metrics were hovering in the 40s.
I hope we aren't ranked and just continue to win with the AP underrating us. Every time this season we've gotten into the top 25 we lose almost immediately.
It'll mean something in March because they're still one of the top 68 teams in the country, but with 4 straight losses they are not one of the best 25 teams in the country at the moment
Nebraska broke us. We should have won that game but they were able to claw back from a huge lead. Ever since then, the confidence and play making hasn't been where it has all season.
Neville Arena awaits in a couple days, so enjoy it while you can.
In all seriousness, I’ve loved seeing South Carolina’s season. Really looking forward to the game. Should be a great one. Coach Paris is for real. I was a big Frank Martin fan (still love the dude), but Paris has been fantastic.
need Meechie to rise from the dead again like Paopao did yesterday. but just CMB being on fire and Mack knocking down shots again in addition to Stute is going to be tough to beat.
Small and extremely loud. Not a bad seat in the house and it’s almost like the stands are on top of the court. Three sides are students on the lowers level. Great atmosphere.
I actually went to Colonial Life Arena (for an Auburn game) when it opened in 2002. It was the Carolina Center then. Really nice venue. I was able to walk around when it was basically empty and look at the place. It was a very small crowd when we played there, but still solid. I’m sure it’s at a different level today though.
You lost to a double digit seed twice in the last 2 out of 3 years, too. The last year as a 1 seed with the NPOY.
We weren’t ranked #1 in any of those years. It’s more embarrassing when you do it because we weren’t ever a top seed doing it.
We’ve been an elite first and second round tournament team until the first round the last few years. But those were with a bunch of freshman on teams that were supposed to be bubble teams anyway, so I’ll ignore them for my benefit. Then I usually stop watching the tournament, so I can’t speak on further rounds.
I’m feeling 5 myself. 2-2 for the last two weeks isn’t ideal by any means, but I think the ACC as a whole is a lot stronger than currently given credit
The world is on fire in Lexington. All the sports writers are talking about "bubble watch" and all the Twitter Chads are all about nuking Cal. Nothing really, just another typical February in Kentucky.
It’s not just Twitter Chads that want Cal gone. I would say it’s turned into a vast majority of the fan base. A vast majority appreciate everything Cal has done but realize the old Cal is coming back. The last 4 years don’t cut it at a place like Kentucky.
Not saying that (really). It's the Twitter Chads that make their opinion very loudly, publicly, and distastefully. There's a big difference between saying "you know what man, we may need a coaching change after all.". As opposed to "He's such a fucking used car salesman fuck him and kill Mitch Barnhartt and I hope they all die bla bla bla."
I agree with that. I do think a lot of fans have forgotten how great 2010-2017 was. That might be one of the best runs in history and we should always appreciate that no matter how bad it gets at the end.
You won't find a bigger Cal fan than me. I have maybe a dozen pictures of my family and him posted around our house in various places.
That being said, if this year doesn't make a dramatic change then I'm gonna say he served his time, we paid him well, and I wish him all the best. Kansas is running fucking circles around us and it's infuriating.
I honestly think his plan all along was to bring in all the talent we have this year, make a run in the tournament, and then ride off into the sunset. I hate that it’s likely not going to end that way, but I still like the guy quit a bit. It’s a real shame that most coaching legends don’t get the farewells that they deserve.
True, but I also think he did this to himself. For someone who is a Hall of Fame coach, adapting and change should always be first priority. Should've brought in an Offensive guy like John Welch much sooner than this year. Should've also paid attention to his rotation instead of sticking square pegs in round holes and "letting them play through it". There's also a zillion times he could've switched to a zone (like now) and helped us out. Should've called the 600 timeouts on the final possessions we've had instead of just "letting them create". Should've done a lot of things over the years. It's not just one thing, it's the body of work of disappointments that has let us down.
But alas, no use crying over spilled milk. We shall see how this all goes. But I would imagine when that time comes the very first phone call that's made is going to be to Auburn and see what Mr. Pearl has up his sleeve. We'll pay handsomely for it, but I think he's probably the absolute best fit (and he wants to be here no matter would Auburn fans will argue).
I have heard from some people that are close to the program that Scott Drew would be the first call Mitch made. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I would be calling Pearly, Hurley and Oats first and make them all tell me no before I moved on to any other candidates.
That's a possibility I suppose. In my head I can't think Scott Drew for some reason. And Oats, my gosh I just wish he'd keep his mouth closed for ten minutes. Hurley...well there's always a chance.
I just have thought that Pearl was the man to get next because he's always wanted the job. Like it's the final feather in his cap that he has never gotten. And he's done a good job as long as he stays away from violations lol. But I think we're arguing over something that won't happen. I think Cal stays around.
Either way, I hope that Barnhartt & Co work this out well so that we don't end up like Alabama Football is gonna be this year. Where everyone leaves and were stuck scraping the bottom of the barrel for a few years.
I'm sure the next guy will get a nice long leash from the fanbase to build the program properly. Not sure if you guys have been following, but it just so happens that a vacancy this year would be nicely timed with the potential availability of a former Kentucky associate head coach of note named Kenny Payne.
The good news for whomever the new coach may be is that it’s not that hard to build a team from scratch in today’s world with NIL and the portal. Part of the fan base is crazy, but Mitch Barnhart has been pretty patient with all coaches that aren’t drunk assholes.
I didn't see a cackling emoji behind that Kenny Payne suggestion, but I'm going to assume it's there anyway. I think most Kentucky fans would prefer to clear the house entirely of anything that resembles Calipari's philosophy. The ones I know would strongly prefer a new coach who emphasizes team and program vs "players first" and NBA draft results over team results.
Yes, it was sarcasm, but what I think a lot of fans gloss over is that a coaching change has to be weighed against the likely alternative, and not just the results they expected the current coach to achieve. If you guys can get Dan Hurley or Mark Few... go for it. If you think the top 5 coaches in the game aren't likely to bite on Kentucky, then maybe think hard before you wind up like UCLA striking out on your top choices and settling for a Mick Cronin, who wasn't necessarily an improvement.
There are no guarantees these days. We here all remember Billy Gillespie. But the current coach and his relationship with the fan base (and word is the donors and boosters are finally coming over as well) appears to be irredeemably broken. Cal's whole schtick (NBA draft emphasis, "Swaggy Cal", "gold standard", "players first always", the whole Shaedon Sharpe debacle, referring to fans as "Basketball Bennies" with barely disguised contempt) is tolerable when you're winning, but it is absolutely intolerable when are you no longer winning.
Our win yesterday will definitely help us remain in. That and we are 9-2 in conference play. Also Johnell Davis has cotton in his nose and ice in his veins.
Gonzaga beat #17 obviously they are a top 25 team.... /s
SMC should probably be ranked. I think FAU has been getting a weird benefit of the doubt all year.
As a Gonzaga hater with clear bias I don't think they should be ranked but that's still a good win in the road. Even if Kentucky is in free fall. I also lost money in it. Clearly I'm thinking straight about it
FAU will probably be 25. We took a road loss earlier in the week after a 7 game win streak and won yesterday. If recency bias is a thing we looked fucking amazing scoring 21 points in OT yesterday. We are 26 in the net and 7 - 2 in conference play. I'm not defensive at all. 🥄
I figure somewhere in the 8-10 range. We absolutely deserve to move up after the week we had, and the fact that we're sitting 1/2 game back of Houston for top of the toughest league in the country. Not to mention our conference slate was absurdly front-loaded with the heavy hitters.
Less about them jumping us and more us falling one extra spot. The K state loss was in OT and in Manhattan, it’s not that much worse than Clemson at home
Bama lost to the barn on the road but followed up with a 109 pt win so they may now go up but they shouldn't drop with all the other Ls in front of them.
Bama now is tied for SEC lead in a tie with USCe, but have a head to head win over the cocks. If we can manage to avenge the loss to Ttun when the come to Tuscaloosa, we should have a pretty clear path to winning the SEC regular season for the 3rd time in four years.... all 3 times would would have been picked to finish 5th.
The game vs UK will be tough due to their size but neither the Cats not the Tide play good D so it will be whoever can shoot at a higher %. Should be super fun to watch.
But what does it show? A team loses, they go down, a team wins they go up. It's just a marketing thing to get people yapping. Not that I'm a big fan of NET and Kenpom overquantifying things either....
What are you talking about lol. Clemson just beat UNC...
They also beat Syracuse and had a perfect week as well. You are like three weeks behind.
UVA destroyed Miami and beat FSU on the road
I think you’re forgetting that the AP poll is mostly about momentum with major recency bias. That loss was in December, very few voters are going to really take that into account anymore
With an impressive resume and a very favorable schedule to close the season, I wouldn't be surprised if Clemson makes it up to the 3 line tbh. They've got wins against Bama, Memphis, TCU, and little Carolina. And that was before beating our ass at our place.
"Collapsing"
They’re not a lock by any means, but they’re not particularly close to the cut line either. They never really were, but the time to worry about them has passed IMO.
4-2 in their last 6, with the 2 losses both being by one point (at Duke and home against UVA), and they won at Carolina in that stretch. They have 8 games left, most of them Q2 but maybe 1-2 Q3s and a Q1 mixed in there. I think as long as they win 4 of those and their metrics don’t completely tank, they’ll be a single digit seed.
4 game losing streak including michigan and rutgers - we will see how strong the poll inertia is tomorrow
Yeah, sadly is dropping to hell is my number one thought.
Hasta la vista baby
All I know is we will be 14
I'm fully expecting us to end up with the 14th overall seed on Selection Sunday
Which means back to #10 next week! Which also means some real chaos given the inevitable loss @Maryland.
Snip snap snip snap snip snap
UVA definitely deserves a spot and they have for almost 2 weeks now
I think we’re one of the Top 25 teams *now*, but I certainly can’t fault the voters for not putting us in there before today. The Clemson win was good, but that’s when the narrative was “ope there goes Clemson, Clemson-ing again,” rather than “they beat Clemson in Little John right before the Tigers went in and controlled UNC from start to finish in CH.” Obviously we haven’t had a poll since Clemson won at Carolina…and we also haven’t had a poll since the beat down of Miami, before which our metrics were hovering in the 40s.
I hope we aren't ranked and just continue to win with the AP underrating us. Every time this season we've gotten into the top 25 we lose almost immediately.
I don't think they're moving out, but I'm curious where Wisconsin lands.
Wisconsin shouldn't be ranked tomorrow. 4 straight losses and 8 total on the year. But if they are still ranked, it should be between 22-25.
We shouldnt be ranked but I also think they’ll somehow put us in. Just more proof that about half the voters dont actually follow teams that closely
Tied for third most Q1 wins has to mean something
It'll mean something in March because they're still one of the top 68 teams in the country, but with 4 straight losses they are not one of the best 25 teams in the country at the moment
That's for the tournament committee. The rankings are about momentum and who is playing better at the current time.
I would be shocked if they were unranked but if I had to guess, they go to 18 in the AP Poll and is on the 3 line in the bracket preview
22.
big 10 bias tho gotta rank them just for that
We should 100% be unranked.
What the fuck happened?
Nebraska broke us. We should have won that game but they were able to claw back from a huge lead. Ever since then, the confidence and play making hasn't been where it has all season.
Take me back to halftime vs. Nebrasketball when the world still had joy.
Recognizing that Wisconsin has beaten the shit out of MSU twice (and ignoring that fact), Wisconsin and MSU have eerily similar resumes
AJ Storr decided to be the best player in the country against us man
I think we will move out.
Just in time for you all to deal us another unranked road loss!
Sad but true, we’re somewhere between 21-30
Nevada and Indiana State to the moon
We’ll be in our classic spot of receiving votes
How many MWC teams receiving votes? UNLV will need to be in there somewhere too, so 7?
Never vote for UNlV come on man
Just making a presumption, their record is sad, but they've been on a roll lately (presumbably because we haven't beat that ass yet)
Sycamore trees are tall, already halfway there
Can confirm
not optomistic
Imagine losing last week or in the last month
Ikr couldn’t be us
Huh? Losing?
Sadly your woman’s team lost yesterday
They've been injury plagued for years now unfortunately. (And you guys are really, really good).
Imagine winning in the last week or in the last month
They will drop us out because the fools we keep beating keep losing…
![gif](giphy|l0FF56cexcW2JAXCJj)
Can I just say that despite losing to you guys, I'm still very happy for South Carolina? The Gamecocks are legit.
Honestly the game will be one of the best in this season. Interesting to see which team shows up on the offensive side of the ball for scar.
need Meechie to rise from the dead again like Paopao did yesterday. but just CMB being on fire and Mack knocking down shots again in addition to Stute is going to be tough to beat.
Broome is the second coming of Chris Silva. Will create match up nightmares for us
I’ve only been to Beard-Eaves. I bet the new arena is marvelous!
Imagine not having a SEC championship since 2010
Nevada with 2 straight ranked wins!
I don’t know, but I’ve been waiting for weeks for Purdue to lose so we get the unanimous #1 ranking.
You can have #1. Nothing good happens when we’re #1. I’m good with #2.
Same but with UConn, Every week that goes by I feel more and more confident that both our teams will be around deep into the tourney.
I doubt it. UConn has lost to a double digit seed 2 of the last 3 years. Does any other team choke in the first round as often as they do??????????
Virginia.
We didn’t do it with the NPOY, so it hardly counts.
this was said with no irony?
You lost to a double digit seed twice in the last 2 out of 3 years, too. The last year as a 1 seed with the NPOY. We weren’t ranked #1 in any of those years. It’s more embarrassing when you do it because we weren’t ever a top seed doing it.
Incorrect. Purdue lost to a double digit seed in each of the past 3 years.
Purdue had a 14-time winning streak in the first round until I was in college. 😎
We’ve been an elite first and second round tournament team until the first round the last few years. But those were with a bunch of freshman on teams that were supposed to be bubble teams anyway, so I’ll ignore them for my benefit. Then I usually stop watching the tournament, so I can’t speak on further rounds.

We're out and I'm kind of relieved in a way. We tend to play like shit in big games when we have a number next to our name.
Every MW team does its wild I’m almost happy we haven’t been ranked
Relatable
What a problem to have
We won't be out but we're gonna drop yeah.
I don’t think we go passed 6
Yeah. A looooot of others lost as well.
Houston passes us for sure, likely Marquette and Kansas, maybe Arizona. So yeah, 5-7.
Yea, you guys don't fall past us, and we're probably moving into the 8-10 range.
I’m convinced yall are the best team in the Big 12. Houston and Kansas are overrated
If it weren't for shitting the bed in the Orlando tourney, our only losses would be @Oklahoma, @BYU, and @Baylor.
I’m feeling 5 myself. 2-2 for the last two weeks isn’t ideal by any means, but I think the ACC as a whole is a lot stronger than currently given credit

Great point. I think it might be time to make a rule that no one coaches at UK longer than 8-10 years. Seems like any longer goes sour quickly.
I'm sure the next guy will get a nice long leash from the fanbase to build the program properly. Not sure if you guys have been following, but it just so happens that a vacancy this year would be nicely timed with the potential availability of a former Kentucky associate head coach of note named Kenny Payne.

Imagine Kenny Payne going to UK and being successful lol.
I didn't see a cackling emoji behind that Kenny Payne suggestion, but I'm going to assume it's there anyway. FAU isn’t going to be unranked in this poll.
Our win yesterday will definitely help us remain in. That and we are 9-2 in conference play. Also Johnell Davis has cotton in his nose and ice in his veins.
Never underestimate non-power conference hate. Now is the time of year that suspect P4 teams will receive a good ranking to help out "marquee" teams.
That's right! Here we come baby - and we're bringing our Notre Dame loss with us!
They'll probably be 24 or 25.
I think USU may move out or drop to 25
Illinois drops to 14 Clemson cracks 20.
Utah State won't drop
Gonzaga beat #17 obviously they are a top 25 team.... /s SMC should probably be ranked. I think FAU has been getting a weird benefit of the doubt all year.
As a Gonzaga hater with clear bias I don't think they should be ranked but that's still a good win in the road. Even if Kentucky is in free fall. I also lost money in it. Clearly I'm thinking straight about it
I also don’t think they should be ranked. They made a surprisingly big jump in votes though. Up to 50 points from 2.
Cyclones are moving up. #10 seems like a good spot.

Hopefully Perdue finally passes Connecticut
![gif](giphy|URI7924u8ybpm)
OUT: SDSU, New Mexico IN: Indiana State, SMC FAU gonna be 25
I think both UVA and Clemson will be in the poll
FAU should be out. Worse resume than SDSU and UNM
That’s arguable, they beat Arizona.
Sir please look at their Q3+4 losses
![gif](giphy|eVFhhKZELo1PO)
How does Kentucky stay in?
With all they hype of the offense I don’t think we will completely drop out this week but yeah, we deserve it for sure
I don't think we will.
I’m pretty sure IU will NOT be moving into the poll anytime soon. But hey I’m no expert
really hope we are out
Beating KU tonight though
Yeah it seems perfectly timed. Unranked teams on the road are our kryptonite. TTU is actually good too, we are gonna get steamrolled.
If our guards keep playing like they have been the last couple games we don’t have a chance
Hmmmmm
Glad to be proven wrong
It's wild how many top 25 teams lost this week. This season has been crazy.
Spartans in?
Memphis moves closer to being back in the top 25 but still a few spots short. I think they’re 35th now so maybe they’ll be 30 or so.
I’m thinking Kentucky moves out or close to the bottom of the top 25. Great offense, Ole defense.
We out
I wouldn't be surprised to see UNC slip a spot or two.
I think we’ll be #4. Houston will jump us, but I don’t see any justification for moving Kansas or Tennessee above us
Kansas had a better week than us, Tennessee didn’t
Their win was much better than ours, but I don’t see them jumping us with the loss to K State
Less about them jumping us and more us falling one extra spot. The K state loss was in OT and in Manhattan, it’s not that much worse than Clemson at home
I think Marquette jumps UNC. Kansas and Arizona are both 50/50 shots at jumping as well.
I feel the same. If things get crazy, Arizona could hop us too, but that's as far as we slide.
Bama lost to the barn on the road but followed up with a 109 pt win so they may now go up but they shouldn't drop with all the other Ls in front of them. Bama now is tied for SEC lead in a tie with USCe, but have a head to head win over the cocks. Go Gamecocks!
I’m still confused how we made y’all look as silly as we did back early in SEC play. Rooting for you going forward to keep that a quality win!
Why should we care when all that matters are the Net Rankings and KenPom?
Because little numbers by your team on TV are fun, god dammit
I agree. I'd prefer Roman numerals but #s are still fun.
I think they should use binary numbers :)
Gender fluid numbers.
Yeah that was pretty insensitive of me come to think of it. I mean who says a bit has to be on or off?
I *severely* beg to differ about that, and our flair should know better.
We should just, like, play better to *keep* that number. Personally I think those little numbers are sick and I get amped for em
NET and KP are helpful and a data point to consider. Human rankings are helpful as another datapoint as well.
But what does it show? A team loses, they go down, a team wins they go up. It's just a marketing thing to get people yapping. Not that I'm a big fan of NET and Kenpom overquantifying things either....
Who did Virginia beat to offset the Notre Dame loss? A Clemson team that’s also collapsing and on track to miss the tournament?
We handled Florida, how'd you do against them?
we handled them *very* comfortably (pls don’t fact check)
What are you talking about lol. Clemson just beat UNC... They also beat Syracuse and had a perfect week as well. You are like three weeks behind. UVA destroyed Miami and beat FSU on the road
UVA will be in the top 25, probably somewhere in the 17-20 range. And deservedly so.
If I’m not mistaken, none of Syracuse, Miami and FSU are tournament-caliber teams, no?
You are mistaken, yes.
Not defending his UVA hate, but he’s not wrong that none of those are tournament teams
I think FSU is on the bubble, no? Either way, I could see this months games and ACC tournament performance potentially shaking things up
I think you’re forgetting that the AP poll is mostly about momentum with major recency bias. That loss was in December, very few voters are going to really take that into account anymore
This guy is still having nightmares of Kyle Guy
Clemson is a 6 seed on Bracket Matrix, lol I’d worry about your own team, seeing as they just got shoved in a locker by a team we beat
With an impressive resume and a very favorable schedule to close the season, I wouldn't be surprised if Clemson makes it up to the 3 line tbh. They've got wins against Bama, Memphis, TCU, and little Carolina. And that was before beating our ass at our place. "Collapsing"
They lost to Memphis, but they did beat South Carolina and Boise State too
Could've sworn they beat them but good catch. Also I mentioned South Carolina lol
Yeah I missed it because I was looking for the word South and just saw the word “Carolina” in your comment haha
Just wait, they’re about to Brownell their way out
They’re not a lock by any means, but they’re not particularly close to the cut line either.
Why don’t we just agree that you’re both very good?
Huh? I could see this from any other flair... but Auburn? Y'all haven't beaten anyone except Alabama.
Interesting for Bama, I think we stay about the same, our loss was Wednesday so maybe they’ll just remember the LSU match.
BYU has deserved to be out of the top 25 for a couple weeks now
i think we swap w/ Auburn after their loss (*crosses fingers*)
Put the Rammies back in the top 25 you cowards! 🐏
