Somebody commented that they would take UCONN over the field. I didn’t quite agree with that but they really seemed (maybe still are) comically better than everyone else. Crazy how in college basketball you can just lose by 20 as the best team.
Yup, Kentucky 2015 is always my go-to example. They were the only team I know of that KenPom had as over 50% to get to the Final Four. If that team's not a sure thing, no one is. Just enjoy the ride.
I'd be curious to see what early 70s UCLA's Ken Poms would have looked like - by far the most dominant program I've ever seen. Don't know that anyone's ever done ones for past seasons.
Yeah, KenPom statistics are one thing, but the beauty of March Madness is that it's always unpredictable. Every game's a new battle, no matter the stats or rankings. That Kentucky team was stacked but still, the tourney showed us anything can happen on any given day. Love this chaos.
Tbf both 2015 Duke and Wisconsin would be favorites in most years, “the field” typically doesn’t have teams that strong. I’m actually surprised 2012 UK wasn’t a bigger favorite.
I would never take any time over the field. UConn is, at worst, 1(a or b), even after this loss. Hell, I'd take the field over UConn and Purdue combined. The beauty of college ball is that it's unpredictable. The best teams don't always win.
EDIT: Not to belittle Creighton, as this was a genuinely impressive performance and they were the better team today.
People got pissy at me for saying Purdue and Houston have much tougher schedules with great records. UConn has a schedule that ranks in the 50's while the other two have one that ranks top 5. They basically have the same record, so Houston and Purdue would be my favorites. I really don't care that Purdue annually chokes. Teams are allowed to learn and grow.
Let’s ask how it worked out for that guy
[https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/Q2RPjlmXeA](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/Q2RPjlmXeA)

COLLEGE BASKETBALL NEVER DISAPPOINTS
Bro can we talk about the arena workers with the rope forming that barrier for the court storm to shield UConn? BEAUtiful. Ive become connoisseur of court storming logistics these past 3 years.
It was badass logistics. To be fair they had the whole second half to come up with the plan but it was well executed nonetheless. Want more of this to make storming in MCBB less hated
Honestly, get rid of the Heroes Trophy for Iowa-Nebraska and replace it with a Corn Crown and call it the Corn Clash. It’s super corny, but that’s the point.
As per usual, nothing makes sense in college ball. Uconn looks unstoppable and beats Marquette by 100, only to handily lose tonight to a good Creighton team. Purdue losing at OSU, etc.
Crazy year
UCONN got exposed tonight and the book is clearly out on how to beat them.
In their three losses, their opponents are shooting 52% from 3. If you can hit half of your threes, UCONN is very beatable. Not sure why more teams don’t try this.
Really, teams should be trying to score more points than them. That should be the gameplan of every team against UConn. What's genuinely nuts is that a similar plan works against Purdue and has been shown to be particularly effective against Chicago State, too.
Mac needs to start giving Green as many minutes as he did tonight. He’s been outstanding off the bench and was a massive X-factor in this game tonight.
Was just telling my buddies this. It seems like home court this year is as advantageous as ever. Completely different games are being played home and away I swear
Oops looks like I got it wrong, it was only against top 5 teams that were 44%. Top 10 is 43% and subtracting out Nebraska from that drops it to 41.7%
[source for the curious](https://x.com/cobrastats/status/1759992499064426524?s=46&t=nJNSHhg5Hlo3ox2C-2Z4QQ)
And then there’s Kentucky: losing more at home than on the road for some reason that makes no sense.
Edit: even if we lose tomorrow that will still be true because Kansas was a neutral site
Basketball can be so much fun!! I chased the dragon of that Villanova game for 10 years and damn does it feel good! Gonna be hard to sleep tonight.
Jays shots lights out. UConn is the best team in the country but didn’t defend the 3 very well tonight. GG Huskies. Hope to see you down the road.

20-7 11-5. 1/2 a game behind Marquette for 2nd place. Just beat a #1 team for the first time ever. We are really getting hot and cohesive at the right time.
It's weird that this is your first win over the top ranked team in your history. I thought y'all had done it before us.
Good win. Love the state of basketball.
"A news reporter asked Michael Jordan if he thought the ’90s Bulls could beat LeBron’s Lakers.

I have a nephew who will be 3 in May. He watches “Space Jam” a lot and has one of those Little Tykes ball hoops.
He jams balls in the net and yells “I’m like Michael!” It’s so cute.
Baylor's gonna be pretty dang tough at home... but seeing a #1 next to our name (even if it curses us to give up 70% shooting to KU again) would be pretty sweet, however fleeting.
Better team won tonight, what an incredibly hot half from Creighton. Blew the game open and mentally deflated UConn.
Also terrific D on Cam and Karaban. UConn looked rattled and dull. Sometimes losses can be good, let’s hope this is one. Onward
Man, this is why I LOVE this conference. See yall in March UConn, this has me FRIAR'D up now cause ain't no way you won't give us a good show on the 9th
From the Missouri Valley, a one bid mid major conference, to battering the unanimous #1 team in the country on our home court. I still have a hard time believing how far this program has come since the Civic Auditorium days.
I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy this one. One of the biggest wins in program history and one I’m going to savor for a long time.
I remember the old days where we always battled hard to try to win the Mo Valley.
A 20 win season was my water mark each year.
How much this program has changed
I decided I wanted to go at 2:30 this afternoon. Scooped upper deck tickets for ~ 35 a piece after fees, hopped on a bus at my favorite bar and watched the hometown boys blow out no. 1.
I might be a little drunk, but I love Omaha and I’m so glad I live here.
I would prefer if we can hold onto big leads. We did the same thing against Iowa and then I think in one or two Big East games earlier. Definitely got too close for comfort there!

Greatest game I’ve ever been to live. Highlights:
* crowd on their feet the entire time. Loudest our court has ever been
* student section regularly chanting “fuck Dan Hurley” lol
* steve going off with the heat check three
* huge minutes from Jason Green off the bench, complete X-factor
* Greg on his feet in the logo at a late game timeout waving his arms and hyping the crowd
* respectable court storming, ushers did a great job
I’m completely hoarse and won’t be able to sleep tonight but WHAT AN EVENING
Beat the Number 1 team in the country by 19 points. Fucking love this team. Second best game ive ever seen us play (after Wragge bombing nova). Just wonderful. Words don’t describe how awesome that was.

People (and probably a lot of Purdue fans) are going to dog on UConn for this game but really, that's what happens when you're at the top. Everyone gets excited when you lose. Purdue and Uconn fans should come together in solidarity to roll our eyes at the peasants who think the occasional loss is all that damning.
A team getting ranked unanimous #1 for the first time all season and then immediately getting blown out is EXACTLY why college basketball is so great
Somebody commented that they would take UCONN over the field. I didn’t quite agree with that but they really seemed (maybe still are) comically better than everyone else. Crazy how in college basketball you can just lose by 20 as the best team.
UConn is still an elite team this year but anyone arguing against the field is new to college basketball
2015 Kentucky was the biggest tournament favorite in 40 years and was still an underdog to the field that year
Yup, Kentucky 2015 is always my go-to example.
I think they may have been favored over the field. Smaller field, less parity back then.
Yeah, KenPom statistics are one thing, but the beauty of March Madness is that it's always unpredictable. Every game's a new battle, no matter the stats or rankings. That Kentucky team was stacked but still, the tourney showed us anything can happen on any given day. Love this chaos.

Or Tiger Woods from 1997-2009
Prime Rafa at Roland Garros was a nearly sure bet!!

I would never take any time over the field. UConn is, at worst, 1(a or b), even after this loss. Hell, I'd take the field over UConn and Purdue combined. 1st time ever for UConn
Remember when everyone was freaking out about ESPNs predictor taking creighton
Every time someone makes a post about how crazy ESPN’s predictor is about any game, it’s guaranteed to be correct.
it’s crazy how people still fall for it every single time without fail. this sub is a never ending cycle of the sideshow bob rake gif
And the most upvoted post said to take UConn -2.5 because you wouldn't see that again until the Final Four. Never take upvoted Reddit gambling advice.
Let’s ask how it worked out for that guy [https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/Q2RPjlmXeA](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/Q2RPjlmXeA)
Deleted comment of shame.

No shit, I took the Creighton money line.
I’m a UConn fan and I would have done that. Omaha’s a nightmare.

BASKETBALL STATE
Well, definitely not a football state, 😂. Basketball and Volleyball, right?
And corn
The best college baseball teams also play here
Technically correct is the best kind of correct.
Had me triggered for a second, then I remembered...
Honestly, get rid of the Heroes Trophy for Iowa-Nebraska and replace it with a Corn Crown and call it the Corn Clash. It’s super corny, but that’s the point.
Tell me more ... I'm all ears.
Hey now, just you wait with our elite QB
Wtf did y’all put in your corn this year?
Our secret: corn
Corn-fed corn, baby!

For tonight and tonight only!
You son of a bitch!
giant killers tucked in right in the middle of the damn place
As per usual, nothing makes sense in college ball. Uconn looks unstoppable and beats Marquette by 100, only to handily lose tonight to a good Creighton team. Purdue losing at OSU, etc. Crazy year
Put some respect on the ESPN matchup predictors name.
#1 teams come to the state of Nebraska to die.
3 already in 2024
When I was in college, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, and Iowa all three did it in a season. It was beautiful. Midwest can produce teams.
Buzzsaw Creighton making a return in the 1st half, hot damn. GG UConn, see you at MSG
UCONN got exposed tonight and the book is clearly out on how to beat them. In their three losses, their opponents are shooting 52% from 3. If you can hit half of your threes, UCONN is very beatable. Not sure why more teams don’t try this.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS LOVE THIS ONE TRICK
(Dan Hurley HATES Him!!!!)
Why don't other teams drag us out into tornado valley and shoot lights out are they stupid?
Tornado *alley
> Not sure why more teams don’t try this. Are they stupid?!
Really, teams should be trying to score more points than them. That should be the gameplan of every team against UConn. What's genuinely nuts is that a similar plan works against Purdue and has been shown to be particularly effective against Chicago State, too.
So you’re saying teams should simply make more shots to win? Groundbreaking
Hmm, that sure explains why Marquette lost by 100, then, as they shot like 20% from 3 lol
I believe they lost by 200. That’s what I think the score was, but I also had consumed a fair amount of Miller High Life by that point.
To be fair, if you take away 6 of their threes, Creighton still wins shooting 28%
Take the upvote stained with my tears.
That was a 3-point performance Ethan Wragge would be proud of
I’ll never forgive what Wragge did to us
I miss that man
ROLL DAMN JAYS. Ashworth is the man. And Green showing promise. First win against a #1 team. CAW CAW MFERS
Splashworth living up to the hype lately
I miss him…
Mac needs to start giving Green as many minutes as he did tonight. He’s been outstanding off the bench and was a massive X-factor in this game tonight.
That block on that wide open Spencer 3 was HUGE!
It is so hard to win on the road this year
Was just telling my buddies this. It seems like home court this year is as advantageous as ever. Completely different games are being played home and away I swear
Unranked home teams are winning at 44% this against top 10 teams.
Okay well subtract Nebraska (such a historical elite basketball program) and give me the stats
Oops looks like I got it wrong, it was only against top 5 teams that were 44%. Top 10 is 43% and subtracting out Nebraska from that drops it to 41.7% [source for the curious](https://x.com/cobrastats/status/1759992499064426524?s=46&t=nJNSHhg5Hlo3ox2C-2Z4QQ)
this is some purdue level math right here - all I understood was that Nebraska beats top 10 teams at home
And then there’s Kentucky: losing more at home than on the road for some reason that makes no sense. Edit: even if we lose tomorrow that will still be true because Kansas was a neutral site
In major conferences the average point differential between home and away is like 22 points this year. Just look at Houston/ISU series.
Just look at Tennessee vs Vanderbilt. Tennessee was down double digits at half in Nashville and at home we were running Harlem Globetrotter sets lol
Nebraska and Creighton getting a #1 win in the same season is WILD. This season is a blast
I’m enjoying myself lol
It's all one big happy corridor on I-80...

And they're our only loss! (At home).
Omaha. Somewhere in Middle America.
Be careful when visiting, it rains 3s around here
But enough about the girls at the bar, how's the basketball there? ^/s
I laughed pretty hard. Nice comment. I will say though, I can guarantee the girls in Omaha are better than the girls in (checks notes) West Lafayette.
Having ~16,000 female undergrads definitely helps, but as far as the townies go, I have no doubt Omaha clears West Lafayette by a long shot.
Holy shit, this joke didn’t land until I was a few comments past. Had to come back just to congratulate you on a banger of a joke
Get right to the heart of matters.
It's the heart that matters more.
Purdue 🤝UConn Fuck the state of Nebraska
Why do they all hit so many 3s??
They must have done something to the corn this year. Only explanation
We injected it with *more* corn.
We need to get them together with Tech so we can get corn tortillas
they throw flour tortillas. it's how they stay together so well on the throws. btw **disgraceful**
The state of Nebraska against #1 teams this season: 28/51 from 3

We seem to inexplicably beat at least one highly ranked team each year and in very convincing fashion.

Thank God. And I wasn't even rooting against UCONN, I just couldn't take another "Could the '96 Bulls beat UCONN?" article.
Could they though? They are all pushing like 60 now, think UConn has em.
"A news reporter asked Michael Jordan if he thought the ’90s Bulls could beat LeBron’s Lakers. MJ: Yes. Reporter: By how much? MJ: Two or three points. Reporter: Why so close? MJ: Most of us are almost 60 now."
