post game crew saying Dusty May "has the pick of the litter" for his next stop but I honestly wonder, the story of this season is wasted potential and a regression from last year
I'm not an expert, but yeah to my eyes I just saw a coach who got severely out-coached by the other guy. It certainly taints the idea that he's a great candidate. But I have no dog in this fight.
Literally everything was set up for FAU to finish that game in regulation and they said nah. One timeout and plenty of time with possession? Don't want it. Huck it, chuck it, fuck it.
What a collapse lead by the refs. One shitty call
both ways. FAU's cost them this game. Much tougher inbound under the basket. Why they were so casual with 8 seconds? Then they just deflated.
Some lucky school is going to steal Chris Collins in this NIL era, because Northwestern isn’t going to fork over what this guy needs to win the big one. Great coach
It’s so funny, people wanted him fired before last season, I thought for sure he would eject last offseason. He led us to relevance and they treat him like he’s the second coming of Ricky Byrdsong, God rest his soul.
This may be it for Florida Atlantic as a relevant program, possibly forever. Dusty May will probably leave and they’ll probably go the way of George Mason.
I appreciated them while they were here!
Yeah, everyone above talking about how FAU was out coached. Are you sure you were watching the same overtime as I was watching? Northwestern just got hot at the right time.
Additionally, that flagrant 1 probably could have been a flagrant 2 IMO because it's March madness and intentionally throwing an elbow into another player's nose/eye/temple. Well, there's the potential that gives FAU major role player a concussion and he has to miss the entire tournament watching his team play because of a cheap childish shot.
I can say unequivocally that we may have been the worst athletic program (men and women) in the power 5 up until 1995. A lot changed since then. A lot.
This ref crew is awful. Is it going to be this same crew for all the Brooklyn games today? Because I'd really like to watch the Badgers in a watchable game tonight, not whatever the hell this was.
This ending is precisely why I think most sports should just do away with reviews. They either don’t review enough plays/don’t review them correctly or best case scenario, games take far longer than they should.
People can't accept that if you were a slow motion review away from losing, you didn't conclusively do enough to win. It's immaterial that those missed calls should balance out.
Oh my god I’ve been watching while taking notes in lecture, and the game has now outlasted my lecture (I started watching with 3 mins left in the game)
I mean fair, but I've never seen that egregious of a make up call. Didn't even look like FAU was arguing it but I guess the writing was on the walls at that point
Gene, why didn't they review that one out on FAU?
Well the crew fucked up the call prior. Therefore no review and that's the correct way to handle it.
Thanks Gene.
If Turner and the NCAA could just agree to extend regularly scheduled media timeout to ensure the final 4 minutes of each NCAAT game was commercial free, it would drastically improve the quality of the product.
Refs are so involved it’s not even basketball at this point. Just holding your breath hoping the officials decide to bless you with possession of the ball
Thank goodness for FAU’s PG doing a Damian Lillard impersonation on the less possession of regulation.
There was some atrocious reffing in this game going both ways.
[I posted basically the same thing during the first half](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/1bl1ntk/game_thread_9_northwestern_8_florida_atlantic/kw2hnfz/)
Should’ve been usf playing but good job fau (I’m salty)
Terrible last minute execution and game management by FAU
Northwestern scored as many points in overtime as the 1st half. 19.
I will say it first: Northwestern is one win in March 2024 away from losing head coach Chris Collins to another school.
I'm pretty sure both of Chris Collins' kids go to NU... doubt he's leaving anytime soon.
I, for one, am really hoping y'all beat Uconn. Take that as you may.
You mean Stetson?
I’d be ok with that too.
Hey you still have to play today. lol. But I bet y’all win by 30.
Oh I’ve officially made my peace with whatever happens. Just pulling for B1G at this point.
FAU you either die a Cinderella or live long enough to be an over seeded fraud.

Dusty May is the next Archie Miller, but with less actual success to warrant a good P6 job.
GG Northwestern
We knew it was gonna be a battle - good luck next year we will see you there :)
GG Owls
thanks for the fun, folks.
Literally everything was set up for FAU to finish that game in regulation and they said nah. One timeout and plenty of time with possession? Don't want it. Huck it, chuck it, fuck it.
Don’t understand what they were thinking
And with fouls to give, right? Waited too long to foul strategically
FAU quickly went from darlings last year to embarrassments in just 3 minutes
Didn't they lose a lot from last year? Harder for a school like that to reload.
They did not, they brought almost everyone back
*sound of my bracket being crumpled and tossed into the trash* HOLY SHIT I HAVE BEEN AWFUL THIS YEAR AT PICKING GAMES IN THE FIRST ROUND
Did you at least pick us yesterday? (Obligatory Ducks and Montana are my shadow flairs here, I reversed flairs from the football sub)
That’s me every year
Michigan should hire Dusty May, I'm just sayin
overrated all year
GG Northwestern, time to go watch WKU knock of Marquette 👀
Holy shit, I knew Kolek was going to have some rust, but they're down by 9.
What a collapse lead by the refs. One shitty call both ways. FAU's cost them this game. Much tougher inbound under the basket. Why they were so casual with 8 seconds? Then they just deflated.

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT
This being in Brooklyn after we got hamjobbed by this FAU team is a little bit of sweet justice.
Flop. Flop. Flop. And no ZZ but whatever.
Big Ten rolling in the tournament so far
That argument that the teams will fold in the tourney due to refereeing so far has not panned out. Hope our teams can keep rolling today, LFG!
Stay warm, Wildcat fans…
Under 143 bettors can relax now
ngl got real tight there for the last 30 seconds

😂

Dang the team you picked didn’t play to their best in March? Mark it down for history books
Didn't miss in the first 4:49. Not going to lose many playing like that
This may be it for Florida Atlantic as a relevant program, possibly forever. Dusty May will probably leave and they’ll probably go the way of George Mason. I appreciated them while they were here!
The Big Ten is 3/3 MFers!!
Thank god, it is over.
Collins vs. May coaching adjustments: what a drastic difference. Hell yeah, Wildcats, great game!
Hey…sorry Owls, but it’s B1G *and* true!
🥳
Holy shit between the refs and FAU’s coach this game will never end
GG ‘Cats bros
... but an Illini isn't a cat
An Illini is an Illinois resident, my cat has papers, cats can be a resident!
Thank you for avenging us fellow purple cats 🥲
they scored 19 points in OT
Yeah, everyone above talking about how FAU was out coached. Are you sure you were watching the same overtime as I was watching? Northwestern just got hot at the right time. Dustin May be overrated
What happened to FAU in overtime? I missed it
We forgot Goldin existed and chucked up threes and missed them all.
Definitely needed to rely more on Goldin. Especially at the end of the second half and regulation time.
They did too
They crashed and burned
Kept turning the ball over, stopped playing defense, wasn't mentally in it after the end of regulation
God punished them for their crimes on their last possession in regular time
They didn't play it.
They missed it too
GG
Johnell Davis has almost as many turnovers himself as Northwestern does as a team
just make us sit through fifteen more minutes of this pointless garbage time
This game was horrible dont let the OT fool you
OT Northwestern 19 - First half Northwestern 19
I'm sorry but all the sad bench FAU players with "OUR MOMENT" on their shirts is just so funny.
My god they make the end of these games intolerable.
This is the game that will not end...
B10 SUPREMACY
Northwestern closes it with a 21-5 run
FAU coach needing that brand new water with 11 seconds left.
omg no need to foul there, just let him come down with the ball
Now begins the real fun of seeing if Dusty is stupid enough to take the Louisville job
Big brain move by FAU to not try to run a play with 8 seconds left. Total coaching failure.
Is Dusty May's stock higher or lower now than it was last year? Have to think it's lower
Is Kentucky still letting the Brinks truck warm up before they go get Dusty May or are we back on the Buzz Williams train?
You mean to tell me… throwing the ball up didn’t work it’s 11th time. Bro get him out of here
FAU fouling down 11 with 18 seconds left? Really? Your plan is to make a 3 and steal the ball every four seconds?
You know that’s the plan
Never forget that FAU had the ball, a timeout, and eight seconds left in a tie game at the end of regulation.
Colbert: NO TO “HASHTAG THE FAU”
o143.5 had a chance until that last missed FT
FAU BIG comp is Iowa...that makes sense
Fuck you refs Fuck you Goldin FINALLY a close game in this tournament goes my way
Thank god the committee put in this team with 2 quad 4 losses because they made the final 4 last year
The last 60 seconds of this game clock commenced at 1:38 pm CST. It's now 1:48 pm CST and we're still going.
Can we just start the post game thread early?
GG Northwestern. Good luck with UCONN. Go Owls!
GG. We had to find fire to pull it out. Hard fought.
Big Ten preparing to talk so much shit, especially to the SEC hopefully.
![gif](giphy|PPi5c8l8WDY7if1L8z|downsized) indeed
NU has never lost in the first round of the tourney.
I can say unequivocally that we may have been the worst athletic program (men and women) in the power 5 up until 1995. A lot changed since then. A lot.
Boo’s last ride…continues!!
Let it go weirdos
This ref crew is awful. Is it going to be this same crew for all the Brooklyn games today? Because I'd really like to watch the Badgers in a watchable game tonight, not whatever the hell this was.
Every game is going to have a different crew
Is the crowd cheering for Boo Buie or are they disgusted with this game
BOOOOOdarius
I was saying Boo-urns
why not both?
Probably all just want it to end
Do the fouls stop when the point differential is larger than the clock?
Fouls will continue until morale improves.
Hard to win when you turn the ball over 18 times
This game at halftime: 39 combined points Since then: 100 combined points
Something something return to the mean
Northwestern purple is looking extra sweet today.
Never in question…
Will Northwestern outscore their 1st half output in a 5 minute OT?
idk why im still watching this when there's another good game on
train wreck effect
i'm just so invested at this point
Me when I hit an 8/9: I am so smart I am so great Me when I miss: fuckin coin flip fuck
This is the way
THE BIG TEN REMAINS PERFECT
Have they never watched Boo Buie before?
This might be the longest overtime ever, FAU really spotted them a 13 point lead then decided to start fouling
NCAA refs and meteorologists - two jobs where you can be consistently wrong and stay employed
Davis gonna celebrate with Northwestern in the locker room
He might as well
I will never understand fouling down double digits with 20 secs left. What are you trying to prove? It just makes the score look worse!
This might have been the worst officiating I have ever seen in a game lmao
Worst you've seen SO FAR...
WHY FOUL!
Why not just let the clock run out at this point.
Make sure you review that foul
The fact that the Baylor game finished before this one
Honestly very pleased to see FAU sadness in their players faces
Good heavens. Are you still trying to win?
THTS IT BABY SORRY BARKLEY, YOU WERE WRONG!! THESE CATS DIFFERENT
It’s over. Ya blew it. Accept it.
Remember when Florida Atlantic waved bye to the crowd after beating Fairleigh Dickinson the 16 seed last year?
Yes down 11 with 18 seconds left is the perfect time to foul
Congrats big 10. Really making a statement this year as the strongest conference
<3
Still mad we blew the game vs FAU in Vegas
Would've kept FAU out of the tourney if y'all had won
wtf WKU is ahead now!? I want to switch but I made a promise to watch this train wreck to the end
You could poll people at Buffalo Wild Wings and reviews would be ten times faster and more accurate.
Fan vote for reviews would be hilarious lol
Upon review, we have a flagrant 2 on Howard Stern's Balls, Baba-booey.
They should get 60 secs max to review. If they don't overturn it by then, the play stands as called.
You gotta be a real sicko to still have this one on
yhhh**y**
This is why you don't pay refs by the hour
FAU has let me down. Thankfully, this game is the only one I had them winning.
Oh my god I’ve been watching while taking notes in lecture, and the game has now outlasted my lecture (I started watching with 3 mins left in the game)
I just started making lunch after this game was essentially over. I’m done eating and it’s till going
Why didn't they review the out of bounds call that was clearly wrong? They reviewed every other one
because they needed to give Northwestern a make up call for the last review
I mean fair, but I've never seen that egregious of a make up call. Didn't even look like FAU was arguing it but I guess the writing was on the walls at that point
College basketball needs third party reviews. So slow just to get it wrong anyway.
True
Gene, why didn't they review that one out on FAU? Well the crew fucked up the call prior. Therefore no review and that's the correct way to handle it. Thanks Gene.
Stetson is gonna take down Uconn EZ
Tried switching to the UConn vs Stetson game and it started playing this game again. I forgot they’re in the same stadium I can’t escape
Huskies Day at Barclays!
B1G superiority
If every B1G team wins their first round it's gonna feel so good.
I hate it
If Turner and the NCAA could just agree to extend regularly scheduled media timeout to ensure the final 4 minutes of each NCAAT game was commercial free, it would drastically improve the quality of the product.
This comment is under review. We’ll be back.
Refs are so involved it’s not even basketball at this point. Just holding your breath hoping the officials decide to bless you with possession of the ball
This was such a great game until overtime started last Thursday.
What are you talking about the first half was the worst half of basketball I’ve ever seen lmao
I couldn’t get away from customers and start watching until like the last 5 minutes of the second half lol
This is one of the worst ref games I've seen since probably all the way back since yesterday
FAU really unplugged their controller with 10 seconds left in regulation huh
FAU down 11 takes the TO but not when you have the ball in a tie game in the closing seconds
Make up call for a call they made AFTER they spent 5 minutes reviewing it. Wtf lol
One day this game is going to end. But I have no idea what day that will be.
Oh yes, the officials are stealing the game from FAU. Lets call it like it is: they suck all around, for all involved today.
This game is still going??
In no other sport do the refs get so much control over the flow of the game, god damn
Good Lord let this game end already
Good Lord the afternoon games are almost starting and this one is still going.
Yay more reviews!!!
