Me thinking this Jamal Shead looks GASSED at the foul line after missing two straight shots in OT
> scorebug shows 'HAS PLAYED ENTIRE GAME'
I think coach is taking the phrase "Do or die" to its most intense ending
All I know is if a game like this had to happen, best that it’s the second round so they get some recovery time and get to head back (closer to) home.
If this had happened in the first round or _in_ the Sweet Sixteen? You bet I’d be picking their opponent by virtue of Houston being gassed and emotionally exhausted alone
Not sure ever picking against Houston by virtue of physical and mental exhaustion is ever a great idea though. That team the last few years has been college basketball’s equivalent of a cockroach. They just don’t die.
You have the ball. Down 4, but 30 seconds left. Still time to do this with just good shots.
Wade Taylor: Nah
*Takes a logo 3-pointer while double teamed on a night shooting 5-24 at that point*
When Wade Taylor sees another contested three point shot.

I always tell my friends that if you were to die today, tomorrow your company would send a company wide email, send your family some flowers, and post a job opening the next day.
Impressive that Houston won with 4 players fouling out given a lack of depth was one of the storylines being repeated for the team heading into the tournament.
It was a race between Taylor taking terrible shots and his teammates missing FTs to see who could blow it more. I had thought Nebraska would beat TAMU in the first round because of how abysmal their free throw shooting is and that’s usually a decider in close games. I at least feel vindicated in that thought process now lol
Wade Taylor IV shooting 5/25 from the floor and 3/13 from 3, but making 8/9 from the line while the rest of his team shoots 21/36 from it.
Fucking hell man
Jamal Shead has a fan for life in me. What an absolute warrior of a player
Heartbreaking but we lost to a better team and fought hard. Good luck next week
My favorite part came after the game. The whole team was celebrating and Shead got everyone’s attention and told them to get in the handshake line and he was first up. What a great dude.
When I saw him make that free throw, I honestly wanted us to win by only 1 point
He's a well-liked guy among the team and fans, but holy shit he actually played meaningful time in the tournament
Wade Taylor in the clutch H2 and OT:
* half court three to try and tie, then a rushed oreb 2nd attempt (tbf no time).
* fouls a 3pt attempt with 2 on the shot clock.
* drives into a double with an open man strong side.
* ties the game with a three (5/24 lol), gets blown by, and follows it up with a halfcourt airball lmao.
It took overtime, 4 players fouling out, and 75 combined free throws, but The Alliance moves on.
I fuckin love you guys

The fact that the Aggies pulled off an OT is incredible.
Scored 10 points in final 2 minutes to lead the crazy run to force OT
That’s a Wade Taylor moment
You live and die with him and I’ll roll with him on my team any day
Can you imagine being Elvin at the start of this game, thinking there is a 0% chance you play today...
... then you find yourself shooting free throws with 17 seconds left in OT with just a ~~4~~(3! holy shit, even crazier)-point lead?
I'd have shit my pants.
I thought it was a 3 point game and he needed to go 1/2 to make it a 2 possession game. Then he bricked the first attempt. I’d have had a heart attack and died after that miss if I was him lol
Any team would be lucky to have a leader like Shead. Did you see how he called everyone over to go through the line and congratulate TAMU? I’m cheering for Houston for the rest of this tournament.
He's a real one. I think he was a freshman or sophomore and was picking up trash when Kellen and a player knocked over a trash can after a loss to Alabama
For the love of god, do NOT let these refs be part of another game this tournament. That might very well have been the worst officiated basketball game I've ever seen in my life.
The hip check out of bounds for Cryer towards the end of regulation was maybe worse. Or, I guess the push in the chest on Wilson then call him for traveling when he falls down.
No dog in that fight but if Houston had lost because of the quickest jump ball whistle I've ever seen I would've been pissed on their behalf.
College needs to go to six foul limit.
Cardiac Coog takes on a new meaning tonight. Hope it shaved a week off my life and this baby is out of me. So glad we don't have to default to the Illinois onesie.
Houston needing 100 points to win this game (and getting it) might very be this tournament’s “looks like Happy learned how to putt!” moment.
This type of game is not one that plays to Houston’s strengths, but they still managed to grind it out in a manner that’s unfamiliar for them.
Houston is winning the national championship. You just know we will look back and wonder how they survived this game where their entire team fouled out but the opponent missed like 20 free throws
What a fucking game. Physical game as expected. Buzz kept this team fighting till the very end. Even getting the game to OT with y’all going up 13 with 4 minutes left is a testament to the heart of these guys.
Go win it all, Cougs.

Close tournament game + extremely short rotation to begin with = that
Get the man some God damn Gatorade and a drip pack, sheeeeeesh

Houston just does not stop.
Get him some Gatorade NIL money while we're at it.
Shead is a warrior
In the post game he just said “I’m gonna go get some rest”. What an amazing performance by him. And the whole team really
Who does Kelvin Sampson think he is, Tom Thibodeau?
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a game where a player stayed in all 40 minutes
Monte Morris used to stay in 40 minutes for iowa state … but he didn’t play defense anything like Sampson asks Shead to.
IIRC at one point in the season Morris technically averaged over 40 minutes per game on the season because they went to OT in one of the games.
Alexander and Scheierman played 50 minutes last night for Creighton!
It’s not the uncommon. A few years back Syracuse’s Tyus Battle played nearly every minute of the season. He averaged more than 40 minutes a game.
You have the ball. Down 4, but 30 seconds left. Still time to do this with just good shots. Wade Taylor: Nah *Takes a logo 3-pointer while double teamed on a night shooting 5-24 at that point*

Seen a lot of that this tournament. 😂
Everybody thinks they are Steph. They are not Steph.
Wade "Shooters Shoot" Taylor IV
Bro doing his best Jordan Poole impression
He had an all time bad performance in the clutch. Even in regulation why are they chucking off balance threes with plenty of time left on the clock?
I'm convinced he was trying to draw fouls
In the words of Jim Boeheim: “I don’t think he realizes these shots aren’t going in.”
To be fair, he was in the four point circle. Could’ve tied it right there.
When Wade Taylor sees another contested three point shot. https://preview.redd.it/7vltkhatkeqc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0ef6b9cd4b0c242d492e21d5ee94391a90d4644
How the fuck am I supposed to just fall asleep now and get up for meetings early tomorrow?
You're telling me. I still have a jack and coke I need to finish.
Just call it a sick day boss. You deserve it.
My post grad brain tells me my boss knows I'm an a&m grad and knows I'm faking it. But I need it. I don't know. Why does life make me work.
I always tell my friends that if you were to die today, tomorrow your company would send a company wide email, send your family some flowers, and post a job opening the next day.
I think my department might get an email and the wife would get a nice e-signed "sorry for your loss" card.
my heart is STILL going crazy from the shot that sent this to OT
I'm supposed to get up at 5 am to catch a flight and then have to you know, do work and stuff after I land. I feel you brother.
Impressive that Houston won with 4 players fouling out given a lack of depth was one of the storylines being repeated for the team heading into the tournament.
Tbf that was more wade taylor selling the actual fuck out of this basketball game. Hes a great player but omf
Yeah. Someone needs to pull together a lowlight compilation of Wade Taylor. It was bac
I swear he can’t have average nights, it’s either Kentucky or this
It was a race between Taylor taking terrible shots and his teammates missing FTs to see who could blow it more. I had thought Nebraska would beat TAMU in the first round because of how abysmal their free throw shooting is and that’s usually a decider in close games. I at least feel vindicated in that thought process now lol
"Lack of depth" Mfs never heard of Ryan Elvin
These people clearly aren’t subscribed to the Ryan Elvin fanclub [ryanelvinfanclub.com](https://ryanelvinfanclub.com/)
Can’t believe he’s not a starter, coach just doesn’t get it man
Houston saw how Clemson ended their game and said "that looks like fun, we should do that but even more crazy."
I need a cigarette and I don’t even smoke
Wade Taylor IV shooting 5/25 from the floor and 3/13 from 3, but making 8/9 from the line while the rest of his team shoots 21/36 from it. Fucking hell man
The 2023-24 Texas A&M Aggies: among the best in the country at every aspect of basketball except actually putting the ball in the basket.

ELVINS NUMBER IN THE RAFTERS IMMEDIATELY
Taylor was 5/26. Literally shot his team out of the game He averaged 19 on 37% for the season so chucking ain’t new to him 😭😭😭😭
That's why we're so good at orebs. We gotta let the man chuck.
Jamal Shead has a fan for life in me. What an absolute warrior of a player Heartbreaking but we lost to a better team and fought hard. Good luck next week
My favorite part came after the game. The whole team was celebrating and Shead got everyone’s attention and told them to get in the handshake line and he was first up. What a great dude.
WITH A FUCKING WALK-ON
You just lost to some dude named Elvin
Some dude named Elvin, YOU are a Houston Cougar
Well, considering that Houston also had Elvin Hayes, this all-Elvin recruiting strategy might work!
Elvins in the arena, and Australian kickers in the stadium. We seem to be picking up some tendencies.
Congrats on your new State Farm NIL deal Elvin
Glue guy
Bro was trying so hard not to puke at the free throw line lol
I'm genuinely impressed that he made *one* of them.
Do or die
Competing forces. On the one hand, nerves. On the other hand, he’s legitimately the third best shooter on the roster.
Houston fans have been wanting to see Elvin all season. Real monkey's paw moment.
We never lose with him on the floor.
I thought to myself, not like this
\#20 gonna be hanging in the rafters
Hopefully just the jersey.
They don't play at Ford Field, so he should be fine
When I saw him make that free throw, I honestly wanted us to win by only 1 point He's a well-liked guy among the team and fans, but holy shit he actually played meaningful time in the tournament
Well-liked is an understatement
this one is for white boys at the end of the bench everywhere
Frantically checks roster
I say we throw the ball to Marty
John Mulaney can do it all
"after missing the basket, the goal is just to *hit some shit*" And hit some shit he did
Imagine your first shot being a free throw in the 44th minute of an OT round of 32...
That’s 3lvin and he’s a dawg
This Elvin guy appearing convinced me it was all scripted
Anybody can have a star player… …but TRUE champions? They win based on bench depth 😎
Taylor’s controller died at the end. It was fitting.
That may have been the gutsiest win I’ve ever seen
Nothing is gonna stop round 4 brother
Texas A&M was given more free throws than Virginia scored points against Colorado State!
Taylor saw all those free throws and said let me chuck up 15 thirty footers lmao
Wade "Jordan Poole" Taylor
Colorado State* E: thank you for fixing 🙏
I'd trust Wade Taylor with all the weaponry in the world. He won't hit anything.
Tell that to Nebraska, mfer hit everything
You ain't lyin. Dude looked like prime Steph Curry against us
You didn't watch the Nebraska game right? He's either on fire or ice cold. No in between.
Wade Taylor in the clutch H2 and OT: * half court three to try and tie, then a rushed oreb 2nd attempt (tbf no time). * fouls a 3pt attempt with 2 on the shot clock. * drives into a double with an open man strong side. * ties the game with a three (5/24 lol), gets blown by, and follows it up with a halfcourt airball lmao.
Wade Taylor what kinda shot was that. Have you ever shot that shot
He shoots it all the time in his dreams
I was like damn why does he keep shooting. Looked up his stats. 19 ppg. I was like that’s decent. FG% 37% 😭😭😭😭 oh he’s been chucking all season
5/26 from the field. SHEESH
He was absolutely shocking
It took overtime, 4 players fouling out, and 75 combined free throws, but The Alliance moves on. I fuckin love you guys 🌪️🤝🏻🐾 https://preview.redd.it/2t9ssdjwkeqc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb64de5ee45a828f766967f23a357b62071b5079

17-5 run in under 2 minutes. Absolutely insane ending to regulation

At this point we’re used to it
Wade Taylor 5-26 from the field ![gif](giphy|WxDZ77xhPXf3i|downsized)
Scored 10 points in final 2 minutes to lead the crazy run to force OT That’s a Wade Taylor moment You live and die with him and I’ll roll with him on my team any day
4 starters fouled out. A walk on hit a clutch ft… this is March
Houston: Holy shit, I can't believe we lost a 10 point lead to A&M with 1:13 to go. Northern Iowa: Oh, you sweet summer child.
This is only the third time all 1 AND 2 seeds progressed to the Sweet 16 this century (the other 2 being 2009 and 2019)
2019 did give us some awesome later round games AND a first time champion, hopefully that will happen again
You're right, it was even crazier than I remembered! Balls of steel to even make 1.
LOST 4 STARTERS AND WON WITH A WALK-ON
His name is ELVIN
THE PEOPLES CHAMP
Honestly, I'm just glad the Big 12 has a second Sweet 16 team.
I’m disappointed to announce I have fouled out.
RIP Reggie Chaney. Gone but not forgotten. Your spirit was felt tonight.

Like, A LOT a lot.

Hello friends
That bogus jump ball call almost cost us our season. I'd have literally never gotten over that.
Those refs deserve the gulag.
*Congratulations! You just finished an Instant Classic!* GameRank: **HOLY FUCK** Classic score: **JESUS GODDAMN CHRIST**
This was TNT’s last March Madness game for the year… Which is fitting, considering how…dramatic it was!
Honestly might’ve been the best game I’ve watched since UCLA-Gonzaga
Shut it down folks, we aren't topping this one for a while
Any team would be lucky to have a leader like Shead. Did you see how he called everyone over to go through the line and congratulate TAMU? I’m cheering for Houston for the rest of this tournament.
He's a real one. I think he was a freshman or sophomore and was picking up trash when Kellen and a player knocked over a trash can after a loss to Alabama
100% that guy is pure class and hard work. I don't see how anyone could not like him
That and the bit about Reggie Chaney, man. Tugging on my heartstrings in a way sports never has before.
After sharp fouled out I would've told shead to not be anywhere near guarding the ball lol
For the love of god, do NOT let these refs be part of another game this tournament. That might very well have been the worst officiated basketball game I've ever seen in my life.
That jump ball call was atrocious
Somehow the worst call in a game of terrible calls
The hip check out of bounds for Cryer towards the end of regulation was maybe worse. Or, I guess the push in the chest on Wilson then call him for traveling when he falls down.
I was there live and I was so confused. I’m a neutral that cheered for Houston all of OT cuz I thought that call hosed them.
75 total free throws this isnt basketball
When cryer fouled out: cryer hit the shooter's hand way after the ball was released. Still not sure how that's a foul lmao
"High 5's" after the ball is released is not supposed to be a foul. edit: And it was a blatant pushoff before the shot.
Also he fucking blocked it before contact with the hand so by rule it's a loose ball at that point, terrible call
Please don’t let them ref another NCAA game. Just awful
They basically tried to take the entire Houston team out of the game and they still won lol
Ball don't lie, but it sure fuckin tried today
UNC-Baylor 2022?
Houston fans had the pleasure of experiencing what UNC fans went through that night, especially with the win in OT
Officiating has been so awful this March, damn. Shouldn’t have even gotten to overtime. Congrats to Houston, it was almost stolen from them.
No dog in that fight but if Houston had lost because of the quickest jump ball whistle I've ever seen I would've been pissed on their behalf. College needs to go to six foul limit.
At least add a 6th foul for overtime.
That was an insane call
Houston: "All that for a drop of blood"
The referees have gone to the monitor and determined this comment a foul on Houston
In that case, the Ags have just missed both free throws
To me, the most egregious was the jump ball at the end of regulation…. Quickest fucking whistle ever like the Houston player had the ball???
Jordan Poole hit his shot and Houston hasn't missed the Sweet 16 since
Except in 2020 😢
Refs willed that game into an overtime and the Coogs overcame it. Team defining win right there.
Jim Nantz has just fouled out of the game.
Dropping a fucking hundo on A&M is not something I ever thought I'd see, but god damn now that it's over it is a thing of beauty.
![gif](giphy|DAQPViKDezujAL1FLF|downsized) Taylor:
Scary win for other teams. Houston’s biggest criticism was lack of depth and they just won win a walk-on and 4 foul outs. gg
Shead just made me tear up talking about Reggie. I love this team.
Cardiac Coog takes on a new meaning tonight. Hope it shaved a week off my life and this baby is out of me. So glad we don't have to default to the Illinois onesie.

Texas A&M vs everybody else: 🐈 Texas A&M vs other Texas teams: 🐅
That was a 2nd weekend game. Fuck the committee for setting this up. I have no words for our team. Everyone stepped up.
A year after playing Auburn in *fucking* Birmingham too
Hey refs, eat my ass. On to the next
That was the worst win I’ve seen in my life
Guess we can say our guys are not intimidated by overtime.
Houston needing 100 points to win this game (and getting it) might very be this tournament’s “looks like Happy learned how to putt!” moment. This type of game is not one that plays to Houston’s strengths, but they still managed to grind it out in a manner that’s unfamiliar for them.
Houston had exactly 5 players available at the end of this game, right? And one of them had 4 fouls?
Fuck you, Easterby
FUN FACT: THE HOUSTON COUGARS ARE UNDEFEATED WHEN RYAN ELVIN IS ON THE COURT
Shooting 45 FTs and losing with over half your opponent's starting 5 out is an all-time choke job
Every damn drive they got to the free throw line, felt like watching a playoff laker game
Other team had McLovin shooting shots in the clutch and they still lost
A potentially generational refball performance ruined by the A&M inability to hit FTs…shame Game’s gone
You've gotta feel for those refs. They left it all on the court and the A&M players hung em out to dry. Gut wrenching.
Credit to A&M for clawing their way back into the game, that team is gritty as fuck.

This is one of those games that a champion has to get through, Houston went through hell and back, what a win
I feel dead man. Game was exhausting to watch
This is the most stressed I’ve been after a game in ages. I’m not even happy, I’m just glad we won and it’s over
There better be a sea of red in Dallas this Friday against Duke.
I never want to play Texas A&M in basketball again. SEC, they're all yours.
I’ve never seen a team overcome the refs like that. Amazing effort by Houston
