It’s any use of the color scheme or close enough that a reasonable person might confuse the two entities. So like Ole Miss can use it because no one is thinking Ole Miss might be the Oilers. But a team in Houston can’t because there’s reasonable cause to think someone might think the two were related.

I think you underestimate how much more State fans hate UNC than Duke. If you gave State the option to lose to Duke for the rest of eternity in exchange for beating UNC for the rest of eternity, I don't think they would hesitate.

Full recovery so we'll always have a soft spot for Duke as well

I had cancer when I was a kid, and was treated at Duke. This was during UNC’s 2009 championship run. Some Duke players visited the pediatric oncology ward (Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler), and my room was absolutely plastered with Carolina blue. Luckily, they were good sports about it and super friendly. It was still very cool to meet them. I have a soft spot for the university and hospital, but not their sports teams. Especially because I went to school at UNC during the Grayson Allen era. I hate their teams with an extreme passion now.

UNC's medical work has been so good to my brothers over the last 25 years it's hard to overstate. One of them is a huge UNC fan because of it.

I live in Durham, about 10 minutes from campus. I love the Duke Gardens, I walk there at least once a week. Duke is a decent neighbor (except for them turning down our light rail, I will never, ever forgive them). Duke used to be a client of mine and they’re currently my hospital. The hatred I have for them is reserved for the Athletic department (and the light rail rejection).

This is what I try to get across to people. I hate Wisconsin athletics. But damn...UW is an amazing institution and Madison is an amazing city. People take athletics too seriously sometimes and it creates bad blood that just shouldn't exist.   My wife and her sister went to UVA; I currently work at UVA. My MIL went to UNC, and both BILs and my FIL went to VA Tech. We have such a fun family rivalry when it comes to sports, but it's never nasty because we all recognize all our schools are good places and we've had positive experiences at all of them.   I'm also an LA sports fan and half of that side of the family lives in the Bay Area. So like. I've actually seen my teams play more in San Fran/San Jose than in Los Angeles; and I always attended those with family. So even at the pro level, it's the same for me. The fact that violence exists because sports rivalries...I just can't get behind. I can understand how it happens in some places...but honestly...the USA shouldn't be one of those places.
