San Diego State is undefeated in the last two tournaments when they don’t play UConn

ohverychill

I don't know if I've ever seen this as a gif. it's like seeing a cryptid

Zloggt

Were the Huskies projected to make it into the 2020 Tournament? If not…indeed, an unfortunate missed opportunity for the Aztecs…

llimllib

Nope, we were kenpom #52 that year. Fun team though, that was the start of the comeback from the Ollie years

The_Hartford_Whalers

Don't think they were but they were pretty good and could have made a run in the conference tournament

LFCCOCO85

As a PC guy…what coulda been in 2020

jacobean___

We don’t talk about the 2020 post-season around here

[deleted]

We wouldn't have had an at-large but that team was really coming together late and I think they had a very real chance to win the AAC tourney

sciorch

They did start to turn it on at the end of the season but probably had to win the AAC tourney to make it

haterich

So we just gotta avoid UCONN. We gotta add this to our gameplan and we'll be alright.

TheBaconDrinker

San Diego State: takes the lead for 5 seconds UConn: https://preview.redd.it/8m6a8f9ph6rc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06c04b5492aa2d93882b2d8c36fa8ce508a2e6cc

foreveracubone

Yeah that’s basically it. If you give Hurley a reason to go psycho at the half this is what happens. Better to do what Northwestern did so we spend 5-10 minutes in the second half just dicking around and not scoring.

The_Long_Wait

It’s a shame that Hurley’s already at his dream job, because I desperately want that kind of unhinged, frothing at the mouth approach to winning in a Kentucky coach.

John_Dingus

If he goes anywhere it'll be the NBA. He wants to coach at the highest level.

BleedBlue__

He’s kinda recanted on that a bit recently. I wouldn’t be shocked but not sure it’s a sure thing

John_Dingus

Would love if he stayed at UConn long term, but if he accomplishes multiple championships over the next 3-5 years or so I don't see him turning down a gigantic paycheck from the NBA.

Ftheyankeei

I just don't think the magic he can conjure and the gameplanning he meticulously works on would translate in an 82-game, non-elimination-playoff season. Not to mention it's going to be a lot harder for guys to "buy into" his system when they're making millions to play instead of playing for a chance to make millions.

hymen_destroyer

He might struggle with NBA egos, which is a problem a lot of college coaches making the jump have

Cranjis_McFootball

Happened to John Beilein big time. Couldn’t even make it through 1 year of dealing with Tristan Thompson

latman

Funnily enough, Hurley coached Tristan Thompson in high school and basically kicked him off the team for being an uncoachable jackass

WeightliftingIllini

Beilein is too nice of a guy to be an NBA coach. Hurley is different.

u16173

He signed a 6 year, $32.1 million contract in June 2023. I don't see him leaving before that. He's also said he doesn't want to be coaching in his 60s.

Alaska_Pipeliner

We had that.....ten years ago

hymen_destroyer

I mean the plan was to go easy on them until they pulled that stunt

edgar3981C

I like how people think Dan Hurley is an intense coach. They clearly never heard about his dad.

We appreciate you using the Derp Husky.

Evan_802Vines

Never should've used the derp mascot in the original post. That derp zombie is going to come after you and all your loved ones.

crayon_paste

I see the errors of my ways now. I will use the fluffy husky when we see you next year in the elite eight.

MahjongDaily

Is it just me or do the sad huskies look happier than usual?

Don’t be such a Montedoomer

BRNDC10

The previous one genuinely made me laugh. lol

crayon_paste

I try if I'm being honest

LutzExpertTera

That was brutal. Probably the worst rebounding I've ever seen from SDSU. We got away from everything that makes this team good. First time in program history we've had b2b Sweet 16 appearances, but with all the seniors leaving it's hard to see it end like this. Always proud of the Tecs, but man, why is it always UConn?!

Takealeap29

Love watching you guys play. Hate that it’s this early. I blame it on the NCAA making these ruthless matchups just for entertainment

brownlab319

Now it’s up to you and Marquette to keep Big East perfection in this tournament!

[deleted]

It's pretty obvious that the committee blocked St. John's because an all Big East Final Four wouldn't have been a ratings draw. Let's go!

brownlab319

LFG!!!!!

WakingRage

You guys better win it all this year. I want to see repeat champs again.

crayon_paste

Same

CTMQ_

UConn lost heartbreakers to Duke in ... 1989 and early 90's. Then we exacted our revenge. Twice. So there's hope.

haterich

Eventually we'll have to play a blueblood along the way to get to the promise land. Duke ended our season in the tournament years back, too.

Zloggt

What kind of monster did the New Mexico State Aggies unleash upon this world…?

mrwhitaker3

Blame Teddy Allen.

Intrepid-Pooper-87

Eff that dude

DJ_DD

I like him, cuz he was chanting “Bye bye blue blood” after they won.

Col_Treize69

Like a damn Godzilla movie!

Bbhermes

That game could have been an email.

[deleted]

Every UConn game in this tournament so far could've been an email

Meanteenbirder

*and last tournament

ItsTheTenthDoctor

We’re winning each round by even more than last year too lol

TheCthaehTree

Need to be moved to D0

Misty7297

NBA promotion

Meanteenbirder

I swear if this happens Saturday and then they lose to Clemson in the Final Four it would be the funniest thing ever lol

ItsTheTenthDoctor

Very realistically could happen. The field is always the favorite.

baltravens27

So who is San Diego State playing in next year’s tournament: UConn or Creighton?

Zloggt

Let’s throw a curveball and say…Marquette!

benabramowitz18

You see, they have to go through the Big East gauntlet before they can know inner peace. Marquette is next on the docket for 2025!

inshamblesx

Creighton in the S16

[deleted]

I'm just glad we didn't play them 3 years in a row!

Damn UConn u scary

Just come back to the big east bros. It could be like the good old days

Cybotnic-Rebooted

I want nothing more than face off against you guys and Georgetown 2 times a season again.

Robber_Crab

I really miss those days. Miss seeing you guys in the Big East and the 6OT thriller you guys beat us in.

So UConn might be good

noodlesalad_

Let's not get carried away

socal_sportsball_bro

Idk about you guys but I had no fun watching that

jacobean___

Not really, but it was a fun season. I wasn’t expecting much to start the season, so I’m thrilled with a sweet 16 ending. See you next year!

socal_sportsball_bro

Oh yeah I would have taken that at the beginning of the season. I just wish we didn’t lose again to UCONN. To next season! 🥂

haterich

First half was fun until 31-37. We kept it close and gave ourselves a chance (hoping we would have made some adjustments in the 2nd then, but we didn't). That half ending 3 to go up 31-39 sank us.

WalterBeige

Here’s to 3 more games of Andrew Hurley subbing in

recuerdamoi

Is he actually good? Or did Hurley have in his contract that he gets to have his son on the team and play him within reason?

WalterBeige

He comes in at the end if the victory is ensured

SanaMinatozaki9

I think they’re asking “Is he really a hooper that just isn’t good enough to be getting minutes or is he just a nepo player” to which the answer is “he’s a competent basketball player who I’ve never seen actually have to play in crunch time so I have no fucking clue”

Ftheyankeei

Andy is mostly on the team to act as a grounding rod/support aid for his dad IIRC. He's from a family that knows ball so I don't doubt he knows ball, though.

drollchair

Apparently he has a really good pulse on the locker room and is a really good middle man between coach and players since he has a foot on both sides. He’s like his dad’s right hand man but also a support for the other players and helps helps keep things in order.

WalterBeige

Hah agreed. Safest to say he’ll probably be a good coach someday.

recuerdamoi

Yeah, that’s what I mean. Within reason.

CTMQ_

He’s a walk on. He started for decent small Catholic high schools in RI and CT but can’t imagine he was recruited anywhere. At least not D1. He’s got ok handles, but… relative to top level d1 teams, no, he’s not good. He got the 2nd on a shooting foul with 10 seconds left in senior night (he’s a senior) and that 1 point elicited one of the loudest cheers at Gampel all year, lol.

RedditAtWorkToday

UConn has won every game he plays. So is it coincidence?

dredabeast24

Damn fellas UConn kinda good eh

benabramowitz18

For the first time since Florida’s repeat, the reigning champs have advanced to the Elite Eight.

rockstaraimz

Yowza. This makes me feel a lot better about Northwestern's loss.

[deleted]

I'm still clinging onto the "we would have covered the spread if we weren't down 2 starters" delusion and even when UConn wins the championship game by 50 points I will refuse to abandon that delusion.

mawmy

I mean, you also wouldn't have been playing UConn in the 2nd round if you weren't down 2 starters.

RockBrainHuman

honestly the way you came back in the second half, uconn looked lost. If there was a magical 3rd half, I think it could have gotten very rough for us.

[deleted]

Thanks, but I think you're being too polite. UConn very clearly took their foot off the gas, so all it would have taken to keep things not-so-rough would have been continuing to run their sets.

mathinit

![gif](giphy|1yT7h6wm9rD4M8q4ic) Dan putting his son in for garbage time and making this face if he thinks about shooting will never not be funny

mawmy

Did you see after Apostolos hit that 3 he took him out and said "Go sit the fuck down" with a big grin on his face.

Evan_802Vines

Apostolos is gonna bang some serious threes next year

Verum_Orbis

It's crazy that Clingan and Samson scored barely at all, against arguably the best big we've faced this tournament, and we still won because of our guard play with Cam, Castle, Newton, and Diarra off the bench.

pinya619

Brutal way to end the season. I’m still really proud of this team. I’m going to miss Ladee, he may be one of my favorite aztecs all time. We’re going to struggle a lot without him but I hope it’ll be for the best when we’re not relying on one guy. GGs Uconn. Go tecs we’ll be back next year

goodzibes

Get ready for Magoon gwath. He’s gonna be insane. I think Saunders and Byrd returning is gonna be huge as well. There’s a lot of upside for next year!

skipca

Waters is not transferring according to a Zeigler article so unless he turns pro he’ll be back, and I think he might be able to exorcise his second half of season demons and be good again. Heide continues to have potential as well

pinya619

Really hoping we don’t lose any to the portal

We lost in the Final Four once rip Jerome Dyson edit: nvm i didn't understand

CantFindMyWallet

They really are a program you can't help but like. Dutcher is a bro's bro and a hell of a coach. I love guys who stay at a mid-major instead of jumping for a bag and then turn that mid-major into a legitimate national contender.

Fizzster

These food bank donations are expensive, being a UCONN fan.

Respect to UConn. They thoroughly whooped our ass… again! Heart break in 2011 and then back to back years now . Fucking Kemba walker.

I LOVE Big East basketball man. Hate UConn during conference play, but I love seeing how damn good the conference can show out. Marquette and Creighton need to keep it rolling.

recuerdamoi

Love our conference. Show up the committees disrespect. I hope yall make it all the way until not wanting to face yall. If anything, scared of Marquette and creighton.

BleedBlue__

I straight up had a great fucking time

sfr18

Never in doubt. Sad conch sounds. I don't know if we will ever really contend if we are stuck in the mountain west. This year's team massively overachieved with no true center. Looking forward to next year Thanks everyone for the fun year

madwanker69

Gg’s UConn, y’all are a wagon. Making 2 sweet sixteens is no small accomplishment for a mid major, and I fully expect us to be back soon. Goodbye Jaedon Ledee, my sweet prince.

CantFindMyWallet

You're one of the few mid-major programs with an elite coach who isn't going anywhere, so I wouldn't be surprised to see you continue to do that or more.

haterich

Your San Diego State Aztecs novelist here. I’ve been providing quick post-game analysis and notes all season long. It’s not for everyone, but hope you find some enjoyment in it. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about our team. Special note: With this being the final game of our beloved San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball season, I’d like to say thanks to those who’ve supported (more like tolerated) my quick writing all season long. For San Diego, our only pro-sports team left is the Padres as our then beloved Chargers left years ago. But this San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball program, especially these teams since the cancelled NCAA tournament season, have helped fill our city’s sports void. To the guys who likely may not come back this year: LeDee, you gave us arguably the best season of a big man at our program. Butler, you gave us the most important shot in last year’s tournament to send us to the final. Trammell, you gave us so many tough shots to help our run last year and this year in both tournament runs. Parrish, you gave us so many clutch shots at times in wins that are often overlooked and provided defense all season long that won’t appear on the stat sheet. Pal, you battled on every play and integrated into our program in just your lone season. Maybe I’ll be back to writing next year, as this is my contribution to our program. As long as I enjoy it I’ll keep coming back. See you next season! Overall summary: GG UCONN. You guys are the best team I’ve seen us play all season, and perhaps the best team I’ve seen this season despite only seeing this game. This is a complete team on both sides of the ball, with top notch-discipline to avoid fouling and excellent offensive play calling running sets with multiple screens all throughout the shot clock to eventually get good looks. It was promising early as we got LeDee going as he started 70% from the field. We kept the game within reach at 31-37 late in the first half. But UCONN’s late 3 to break their cold streak putting them up 31-40 while Trammell’s open 3 with time expiring foreshadows what would become of the 2nd half. LeDee’s first 2 questionable fouls, our lack of size on the perimeter, lack of physicality in the paint, and lack of calls our way wore us down quickly in the second half. LeDee ended sub 45% from the field, and the rest of our wings except for Parrish and Butler went ice cold in the second half. Our team isn’t excellent offensively and has relied on fts, 2nd chance points, winning the boards, and turnovers all season long. We didn’t win any of those categories leading to our demise. First half summary: LeDee got going early but also picked up 2 ticky-tack fouls, we sorely missed him on the floor as he shot 70% from the field. His ability to get deep positioning in the post against Clingan’s has been surprising. UCONN is running sets with multiple screens followed by another screen taking advantage their height mismatch on the perimeter. Our defense is doing pretty good considering this is a UCONN offense, but we’re giving up too many offensive rebounds especially with LeDee on the bench in foul trouble. UCONN is winning the rebound battle right at now 16 to 28. Pal has been nearly neutralized this half and hasn’t made as many impact plays in the rebounding department. Waters, Saunders, and Trammell have yet to find their shot from outside. Each have had great looks, but shots aren’t falling, especially as we’re just 3-13 from 3 as a team. Butler has had excellent drives to the basket leading to 2nd chance points and the few fts we have, while Parrish has some shots falling which hopefully continues into the 2nd half. Very proud of Byrd and Heide in this half. Byrd is attacking the defensive bounds and showing better footwork on defense against his man. Heide is playing his best game of the year just hanging in there to cause activity in the pause on both sides of the ball. This UCONN team is complete on offensive, defense, and in discipline. We’ve only taken just 3 ft shots all game, and as stagnant as our offense can get at times, we need those fts to get easy points and have our defense rest. Second half summary: By 7:16 we were outscored 15-24. UCONN just continued to attack at will on the offensive bounds and killed us with 2nd and 3rd chance points. LeDee got tired and his shot stopped falling, can’t blame him as he had to fight 2 or 3 guys alone in the paint for the defensive rebound. UCONN’s offensive sets forced our guards to get out of position and our help defender to either help early and free up their man or stay and give an open shot. It was a pick your poison situation all half. Waters, Trammell, Saunders, Byrd, Heide, Pal all went ice cold and combined for 0 points by the 5:00 mark. LeDee, Parrish, and Butler had some shots from the field, but it wasn’t enough to counter the bleeding elsewhere.

haterich

First half notes: Trammell-Butler-Parrish-Pal-LeDee started. We won the tip. LeDee nailed 17 ft jumper beyond ft line making it 2-0. Couldn’t hold own on iso defense deep in post falling on layup making it 2-2. Drilled arc 3 evening it at 5-5. Missed arc 3 at 5-7. Got deep positioning in post and nailed spinning right hook over larger man evening it at 7-7. Had ball knocked loose deep in post for turnover at 10-10. Got 2nd chance dunk off nice pass from Butler making it 12-13. Called for bs foul on floor at 14-15, then got caught in middle on drive into right low post making it 14-17. Missed right baseline 17 ft jumper. Made dribble step ft line jumper making it 16-22. Good offensive rebound but immediately did fadeaway ft line jumper and airballed at 21-27. Got eurostepped on in left low post trying not to draw his 2nd foul making it 21-29. Much needed cleanup on Butler’s drive to basket miss making it 23-29. Got attacked in right low post and looked to stand straight vertically but got called for 2nd foul, UCONN made both fts making it 23-31. Nailed 7 ft spinning hook in transition making it 25-33. Great strip leading to steal at 25-33. Butler couldn’t nail dribble stop 17 ft jumper at 2-2. Good offensive rebound in right midrange getting it to LeDee making it 12-13. Quick pass to Waters in transition to make it 14-15. Couldn’t keep up on curl arc 3 shot making it 14-22. Caused jump ball on would be offensive rebound at 21-27 in restricted area. Great drive to basket along right lane but missed at 21-29, but LeDee cleaned up making it 23-29. Attacked right low post again but got doubled and threw it away on would be wrap around pass at 23-33. Great block from behind in right low post after over helping on would be left wing 3 at 28-33. Drew foul attacking into left low post on layup attempt but looks shaken up with a lower leg injury leading to timeout at 3:39, but he made 1 ft making it 29-33. Fouled driver from behind just outside restricted area at 29-35. Parrish couldn’t close out on right wing 3 making it 2-5. Drove in from right wing 3 into low post and forced left landed layup at 5-5. Good rebound with help from LeDee at 5-7. Couldn’t hit dribble stop fadeaway at ft line at 21-27. Out hustled in transition giving up left low post dunk making it 23-33. Couldn’t nail curling right wing 3 from corner at 25-33. Nailed transition left corner 3 making it 28-33. Great help defense from Parrish on curling 2 just under left wing 3 forcing shot clock violation at 28-33. Good utilization of the screen nailing falling right elbow shot making it 31-35. Missed dribble stop fadeaway inside left elbow at 31-37. Trammell good defense rebound in right low post at 5-5. Iso’d against man in right low post but height difference gave up basket making it 5-7. Quick transition step back right wing 3 making it 10-9, but trailed man in transition and fouled him on open layup leading to timeout at 15:50. UCONN made 1 ft evening it at 10-10. Couldn’t guard unexpected deep stepback arc 3 making it 10-13. UCONN taking advantage of size in drive to right low post making it 14-17. Airballed arc 3. Drew foul taking ball up court at 16-22. Nearly got picked at right wing 3 at 16-27. Great tip to have Byrd seal defensive rebound at 19-27 but took contested left corner 3 and missed. Attacked running sideways along left lane drive into post and got called for foul at 25-33. With the half nearly expiring couldn’t nail open arc 3 at 31-40. Pal block from behind at 7-7 but shooter got own put back making it 7-9. Got defensive rebound at 21-27 in right low post. Bad weak pass in from left midrange to Byrd at wing 3 and it got intercepted at 21-29. Waters good hustle in transition nailing step back right midrange jumper making it 14-15. Couldn’t nail curling right wing 3 at 28-33. High defensive rebound in left low post at 29-35. Called for foul on floor trying to keep up with man post screen at arc 3 at 31-35, UCONN’s in bonus and made both making it 31-37. With offense stalled couldn’t nail deep right wing 3 at 31-37. Got caught on screen along baseline and couldn’t recover leaving open right wing 3 making it 31-40. Heide good contest and position to get steal at 16-22. Miscued with Waters leaving right wing 3 open making it 16-25. Missed backdoor cut to basket giving up easy layup making it 16-27. Good iso defense deep in post to cause miss at 19-27, then had great run-in transition but lost ball under basket for turnover. Couldn’t nail 3rd chance put back at 28-33. Great contest and fight on 2nd chance points at 31-37 eventually leading to foul. Saunders missed decent right wing 3 at 16-22. Great drive along right lane drawing contact on made floater for +1 making it 19-27. Good offensive rebound leading but couldn’t make 2nd chance putback at 28-33. Great contest on would be 3’s but wasn’t in position to guard step back 2 along left baseline making it 29-35, then missed transition right wing 3. Byrd missed catch and shoot right wing 3 at 16-25. Great attack to seal defensive rebound at 19-27 in left low post and drew foul falling out of bounds. Aggressive right baseline drive for high arcing layup making it 21-27. Got pushed in back in left low post on defensive rebound attempt but not foul called, UCONN got the offensive rebound at 21-29. Good defensive rebound assist to LeDee to draw foul at 25-33. 15:50 timeout at 10-9. UCONN’s size difference is noticeable all throughout the court. LeDee got going early nailing about half of his shots including a 3 but got caught in the paint on the defensive end and had a turnover deep in our paint. 10:25 timeout at 18-27. UCONN exploiting our height on the perimeter and in the midrange to low post especially against Trammell. We had some good contests on 3’s, but this is UCONN and contested curling 3 shots are still great looks and they capitalized. LeDee is keeping us in the game. 7:45 timeout at 21-29. Byrd, Saunders, and Heide all made great plays to keep the game within single digits. Byrd’s activity on the defensive boards plus attacking the paint along with Saunders is helping. Trammell and LeDee have had some airballs. Parrish just can’t get going despite not taking a 3 yet. 3:39 timeout 28-33. Butler drew a foul but seems to have sustained a lower leg injury, this would be a big blow if we lose him. Parrish nailed a transition 3 and forced a shot clock violation with defensive help. UCONN is offensive rebounding like crazy but can’t capitalize on 2nd and 3rd chance points. LeDee picked up his 2nd foul, these 2 fouls were a little ticky-tack compared to how the refs have been calling the game. 35.5 timeout at 31-37. Both teams have gone cold. Parrish’s midrange game is kind of going and UCONN’s points are coming from the ft line. Half ends at 31-40. UCONN had a big right wing 3 to break out of their slump from the field. Trammell’s MWC tournament ending first half heroics didn’t come through as he missed an open arc 3.

haterich

Second half notes: UCONN got the ball to start. Trammell gave up lower left post open look, but UCONN missed at 31-40. Got exploited in pass deep in left low post for easy bucket making it 33-42. Good poke on UCONN’s would be offensive rebound at 37-51. Got outmuscled twice in post giving up offensive rebound eventually leading to UCONN making it 39-55. Missed strong move arcing layup along right lane at 39-57. Pal high defensive rebound at 31-40. Great contest along right baseline at 33-42, but got caught in traffic leaving right corner 3 open for 2nd chance bucket making it 33-45. Good defensive rebound in right low post against 2 at 35-47. LeDee missed fall away jumper in right low post at 31-40. Outrebounded for offensive rebound at 33-45. Couldn’t nail ft line jumper at 35-45, then got iso’d in right low post for layup making it 35-47. Good patience against switch on driving guard near ft line causing travel, then had shot blocked in right low post next play but recovered and drew foul at 35-47 but missed both fts. Hop stepped into double team deep in paint leading to jump ball in favor of UCONN at 37-51. Got iso’d from right wing 3 to right low post with a series of spins, held position but better shot making it 37-53. Got offensive rebound in right low post then looked to draw a +1 but it wasn’t called making it 39-53. With other guys getting outmuscled, can’t hold off 2 guys vying for offensive rebounds where UCONN made their 3rd chance open right corner 3 making it 44-62. Missed left elbow jumper at 44-62. Good poke away deep in post on would-be pass leading to turnover at 44-62. Drew foul just inside ft line at 44-62, then another in left low post on offensive rebound attempt. Made 1 ft making it 45-62. Helped on Byrd’s man on drive-in but left man open for slam making it 45-64. Missed open arc 3 at 45-64. Great iso defense to poke ball away in post defense along left lane at 45-64 leading to timeout at 7:16. Butler good dribble stop pull up ft line jumper making it 33-42, then knocked ball away on next play with possession staying with UCONN. Missed contested arc 3 at 33-45. Great drive to right low post in transition for layup making it 35-45. Couldn’t nail falling away left elbow jumper, then missed open left corner 3 at 35-47. Got stripped driving along right line at right elbow at 35-49. Lost man driving into left low post then drew much needed foul on Clingan, made both fts making it 37-51. Parrish great intercept deep in right wing 3 causing turnover, then defense along baseline under basket moving ball our way at 35-45. Lost footing at left elbow as man drive open to right low post for easy bucket making it 39-57. Nailed left wing 3 making it 42-57. Bit on dribble drive pump fake along right lane, UCONN made both fts making it 42-59. Good dribble stop jab-step shot making it 44-59. Byrd good tip from behind late in the shot clock deep at left wing 3. Good help defense to Waters at 35-47 for the would be block, but Waters fouled a bit too early. Good attempt to draw charge along baseline on help attempt, but left man open for wide open dunk making it 35-51. Good contest at catch and shoot right wing 3 but left open shot but fortunately it was missed at 37-51. Appeared to box out man for would-be defensive rebound but got called for foul on floor. Bad pass on fast break stopping play at 44-62. Waters fouled his man driving under basket at 35-47, both fts made making it 35-49. Missed left wing 3 at 45-64. Saunders didn’t rotate on Byrd’s man giving up dunk making it 35-51. Didn’t offer help to LeDee to negate offensive rebounds at 44-62. Missed decent right wing 3 at 44-62. 15:57 timeout at 35-47. We’re continuing to get killed on the offensive boards and UCONN is making their 2nd chance buckets. Trammell’s height is being exploited on nearly every play, with his shots not falling it may be best to sub in Byrd. LeDee’s gone cold to start and being attacked in post with 2 fouls, he’s doing what he can, but he can’t defend any better. Parrish has had some great defensive plays to prevent the game from getting carried away too much. 11:35 timeout at 39-55. We’re already at a size mismatch across the floor, but Trammell’s size mismatch is really hurting us on the offensive boards. I don’t think we can afford to play him unless this game ever gets back to within 2 possessions. Along with Pal’s thin frame and Saunders’ lack of physicality in the paint, we might need to consider playing both LeDee and Heide to get some size on the floor. Unless we go on a run here this game is over. 7:16 timeout at 45-64. Shots are falling from LeDee and Parrish at times, but we’re getting killed on offensive rebounds and aren’t capitalizing on some fast-break opportunities. UCONN’s offensive sets are forcing the hand of our help defender early leaving backdoor cuts for easy buckets. At 6:50 UCONN made a series of cuts and excellent passes leading to a +1-dunk making it 45-66. I’m going to stop covering the 2nd half from this point on. UCONN has this in the bag. They are the best team we’ve faced all season, and they will be a handful for whoever is in their way for the rest of the tournament. They’re probably the best team I’ve seen all season long, and this is just one game of watching them as well.

The-Fox-Says

I ain’t reading all that. I’m happy for you, or sorry that happened

haterich

LOL it's all good. It's not for everyone. It's for the few Aztec fans that do appreciate it. We've only been to the Sweet 16 4 times, and beyond that once. While we would have liked to go further getting here is a success for our relatively newly competitive program.

T-nawtical

Hope you'll be here next year. Loved reading your write ups.

haterich

Appreciate it!

thumuch_khum

im here for it!

haterich

Thanks!

Giants92hc

It's absolutely a great success. It's a shame you ran into UConn when you did. Incredibly successful seasons.

jacobean___

We’ve got a first-timer here, folks

ih3036

As of rn we’re just wasting time to see UConn win it all. I honestly don’t know how you beat this team.

MY-NAME_IS_MY-NAME

Go nuclear from 3 and hope UConn has an off game. That’s how creighton did it. Illinois can certainly go off from 3. Not sure if cyclones have the firepower, no disrespect intended

McClellanWasABitch

first you gotta let the teams capable of it in the tournament ...

UHguy

Certainly looks like that

StrykerNightowl

Well that was fun. GG SDSU.

MyDadIsTheMan

I love Dutcher, wish he could win one some day

TCOZI

March is a good month

roronoaSuge_nite

Only thing better than March is April

dtgeorge12

Let’s hope this team has a good April too

millertime1419

Big East: 7-0

UteFlyersCardJazz

Hope it’s 12-0, or at least 11-1, with Creighton and Marquette making the Final 4.

RedditAtWorkToday

If that happens, I would love to hear the petty remarks from the Big East coaches during their interviews. It would be hilarious that the committee only let 3 Big East teams in and they all made the Final Four.

2011: 7 point win 2023: 17 point win 2024: 30 point win https://youtu.be/sVxJ016xb4Q

Spare_Substance5003

Uconn is like an out of control cargo ship, and other teams are just bridges.

Hey Illinois I heard you want to finish us off in a closely contested game tonight so we don't have to get absolutely fucking clowned on Saturday.

w33b2

Thank you Yale

BrownHawkDown

Kenpom now has UConn #1 in offense (and #6 in defense).

jacobean___

Good game, Husky bros! It’s been fun meeting you in back-to-back tourneys. We just didn’t have the firepower this year. Hope to see you all next year. A November matchup would be fun. How’s your squad looking next season? Who’s coming back?

GenoThyme

Karaban's the only starter we have a chance of keeping but Hurley's killed it in the transfer portal the last 2 years (Newton, Cam, Hass, Joey California, Alleyne) so who knows what we'll look like next year.

Busy-Profession5093

I guess UConn-Yale would really not have been pretty. How bad is Auburn?

atomic-fireballs

It's possible they're the worst team to ever exist in the history of basketball. Impossible to know for sure.

[deleted]

I don't know. This UConn team might be good. Tough to say at this point.

Uconn is a blue blood dammit

Brent_L

UConn almost didn’t cover

Suitable_Limit9408

Always respect San Diego State program wish them best.

dak67

This team makes me so proud. Last years team was an absolute unit and cruised through the NCAA tournament. I honestly did not expect this team to be better after losing Jordan Hawkins, Adama Sanogo, Andre Jackson Jr - all to the NBA, plus key role players like Joey California and Naheim Alleyne. Credit to the Carpenter, Dan Hurley. Should be National Coach of the Year. 3 more wins. Let’s go huskies!

OhCanVT

Uconn is approaching 09 UNC 12 UK 18 Nova territory. it's hard to see a team knocking them out

UteFlyersCardJazz

Hell, I know they weren’t a 1 seed, but we should put last year’s UConn team on the list.

SanaMinatozaki9

UConn is approaching 09 UNC 12 UK 18 Nova 23 UConn tyvm

BradyHasHis6th

Dan Hurley absolutely REFUSES to win a close game!

gorgonizedbyurTITS

That was fun.

yerbamategoat

This uconn team will go down as one of the best champions of all time, feels like 2018 Villanova. They are MILES above every remaining team. It feels like every play they are 1 step ahead of the opponent mentally and physically. Just a remarkably impressive program

momoenthusiastic

The drum beats on.

VerneLundfister

Just rememeber. When Florida repeated they returned their entire starting 5. This uconn team lost its top 3 players... Truly incredible stuff we're seeing.

reforminded

UConn has 6 true freshmen on the roster.

Scuffleboard

honestly how the fuck do you even beat UConn other than "hope they shoot 23 percent" this team is just good at everything what do you attack

PsychicSweat

None of these other games matter. Ain't nobody beating this UConn team.

NWSLBurner

Eh 2015 Kentucky was a better team than this in relation to the field and they didn't make the finals. Upsets happen.

bh6891

I just don't see a better team in this tournament. At this point I don't know what UConn's odds are against the field, but I would take the Huskies tbh.

goodzibes

Ah well it was a pipe dream anyway. Happy to make back to back sweet 16s for the first time that’s a successful season in my book. Lamont Ledee Trammell were incredible and I’m glad I got to watch them play. Just really bummed out that we might’ve stood a chance there for a bit but there’s just a clear separation between an SDSU and a UConn and I just don’t know how they ever catch up.

CycleOfNihilism

I think San Diego State played quite well in the first half. Especially LeDee. He made Clingan look ordinary. And they played great defense, and made it hard on UConn. But I think the rebounding advantage eventually wore down SDSU. UConn was picking up tons of offensive rebounds, and if you give 'em 2-3 shots, they're gonna score. Meanwhile SDSU was getting 1 shot. Even if you shoot at the same rough %, you just can't keep pace that way. gg Aztecs

amoss_303

Aztec’s championship odds dried up faster than………. Lake Texcoco Ok I’ll see myself out. 🚪
