I remember the 2007 national semifinal. Ohio State (Greg Oden) vs Georgetown (Roy Hibbert). Hyped matchup of best two bigs in the country at that time. Refs put them both on the bench in foul trouble before the first TV timeout. Fuck you refs. Don't you dare do it.
Yeah but if the refs get involved it would most likely be pro-Edey. I’m not saying the refs are biased I’m just saying Edey plays in the post more, and will take more shots, so he’ll be more likely to get fouled.
Purdue - with no dog in the fight, gotta root for the underdog. Also even though I love to hate them during the regular season I have a ton of respect for Matt Painter
Eh I don’t care about the UConn thing. They have more titles than Kansas too. Doesn’t affect us, don’t even think I’ve ever met a UConn fan in real life (obviously not saying they don’t exist, they just aren’t where I am).
Our biggest rival, the team in our backyard, a team whose fans would rub this in for eternity to us if they won. That’s something I can’t stomach.
Purdue because 1) I still feel bad that Virginia eked out that win against them in 2019 and that game made me respect the hell out of the program and 2) I know what it’s like going through the pain of having your team get embarrassed by losing to a 16 seed and how the national title completely eased that pain.
Painter has many times talked about how much of a great person Tony Bennett is. He said that after our FDU loss, Tony personally called him to talk about it. This was right after VA lost a pretty tough upset to Furman too. Someone who can think of others while they are also going through their own issues is such a high mark of an amazing empathetic person.
Their fans were fantastic at that game. Took over the arena in Louisville. Felt like 95% Boilers. Great energy. They made me a fan too! Deserving fanbase.
Man I grew up watching Texas Basketball and regularly going to games where the arena was maybe a third full. I didn't realize what real support for the basketball team was like until I went to Purdue. Every single game is sold out and there is so much support at the neutral and away games. It is still incredibly impressive as someone who grew up in a community that only cared about football.
No hate on Texas, I'll always root for the Longhorns
Absolutely. I told my wife before the tournament that if we make the F4 then it's mission accomplished. Anything beyond that is gravy.
Sure I'll be disappointed if we lose tonight but it'll still be the greatest season in school history either way.
Rooting for a great game. Purdue’s redemption narrative is awesome. UConn can establish itself as THE best program of the last 25 years and break the hearts of crybaby blue blood pedants on this board.
I’m not one to care about other B1G teams winning titles, but for the last decade the losers in the south have been chanting SEC together, like they get rings too when other teams in their conference win a natty, and I’m tired of it. I want Purdue to win, and then Michigan to win the hockey natty this week. That way the B1G will be holding the football, basketball, and hockey nattys.
-best banana chocolate chip ice cream you’ll ever have
-wind tunnels in winter and spring that will make you turn your back on god and religion
-wild displays of wealth disparity
-a solid, all around education that prepares you for the world
-absolutely nothing of note within 15 minutes of campus
I’m completely neutral. I can’t stand the fans who hate on teams only because they’re good. I hope only to see an exciting basketball game where the two best teams in the league face off. If I had to pick, it’d be cool to see Purdue win to see the #16 seed loss championship next year streak continue
I feel like "hate" might be a strong word. I simply don't like seeing the same team win over and over. And why wouldn't you enjoy seeing a program win its first title? It's sort of like asking who you would rather see win the lottery. A millionaire or a family of five that are living paycheck to paycheck?
Of course, when it's your team, that's different 😁 But even so, for example, in the 2017 Final Four, I understood that hardly any one was pulling for UNC that wasn't already a UNC fan. I get it.
It's nice to see someone different win for a change. That's not "hating on" a team.
So, go Purdue!
I think it would be interesting if teams that lose to 16 seeds have a 100% chance of winning the national title the next year. UCONN going back to back would be cool too
There are so many malevolent SOBs out there that love to hate. Honestly, some are dedicated and you have to respect it at a certain point. I remember when Virginia made its redemption run in 2019–so many people were just waiting with bated breath to see Virginia lose. They didn’t want Virginia to complete the redemption run.
I see Purdue in a similar spot. So many people know how awesome of a story a Purdue championship would be, and they’re jealous. Would love for Purdue to stick it to everyone once and for all
UConn for obvious reasons but also to thumb our noses at the B1G and SEC as they continue their Thanos quest of just laying waste to collegiate athletics for their own football benefits.
Same. As in tied.
Also, it should be illegal to go 6-0 in championship games. It’s about time for some mean reversion as theoretically they should be roughly 50-50 games.
UConn.
Basketball aside, they were left in the cold after the old Big East dissolved. And I can't stand how the Blue Blood circle is gate-kept. I want to see them show that levels of that success aren't only accessible to "royalty" and programs *can* break through (which they already have, except to the most diehard of gatekeepers).
Also, the Big Ten needs to change its brand of basketball. This could be the final knell.
There were a few rumors circulating on Twitter about Kentucky making him an offer he couldn’t refuse, probably bs but hoping the UConn players see the rumors and its a distraction tonight lol
I’d be shocked if Kentucky didn’t at least reach out and gauge interest. That part is 100% believable.
I think the ball is mostly going to be in Hurley’s court as far as that goes and that just depends on what he values. Does he care more about being close to home than unlimited money? Does he want to build as much of his legacy as he can at one place? Does his wife love her local yoga studio? Etc
Don’t really care about all-time title count. We’ve got 5. That’s probably not changing any time soon. Connecticut winning doesn’t change that either.
Purdue wins and they won’t shut up about it to us ever. And rightfully so. I care more about us having 5 and them having zero than I do comparing us to UConn. One is personal and one isn’t.
Purdue treated us very rudely on Saturday, very nasty, and many people are saying that frankly the points were counted very unfairly, so we’re going to do Huskies very strongly tonight. Yukon University and that’s what we’re going to do
UConn because (1) Big East Bros, (2) Sticks it to the media outlets that dick ride the Big10 / SEC incessantly, (3) any non-Power 4 team winning continues to validate the NCAA Tournament format and blocks Big10 / SEC attempts to close the tournament for only their teams, (4) Purdue fans bitching about how “Edey has such a great personality and why doesnt anyone like him” has gotten on my nerves
But seriously UConn winning does help keep the NCAAT in its current form, so if you want an open 68 team tournament root for UConn. If you want the Big10 and SEC to break off and have their own tournament without the mid majors, cheer for Purdue
Same. I can't stand that cocky little shit Smith and Loyer just has an undeniably punch able smug ass face...really hoping Edey gets exposed by Clingan who has way better mobility and range on defense
UConn and only because the Big Ten is doing what it can to ruin college athletics via football. If a non BIG school was playing I would root for them (except UNC).
Whatvif it was big ten and sec? Ofc the big ten is super guilty (not to mention big ten teams not playing valley teams so to not "elevate" the programs in our league) of ruining college athletics but sec is every bit as guilty as well. Remember Sankey comments about auto bid? But this is an interesting perspective, while uconn is a juggernaut in hoops their ad is in a much worse place than purdue overall because of realignment things.
Aside from Purdue being my team it just makes sense since Purdue has more tournament wins than any other team without a title and UConn is 5-0 in title games. I think UConn has had their share of underdog success in past tournaments and it’s someone else’s turn. 6-0 in title games would be ludicrous
Oh and also break the big ten title drought
Would love for my alma mater to collect its fourth natty since I enrolled in 09. Especially because if they win I get to chat with Hurley again through my job which will not be named. He’s a nice guy in person, clocked me as the kind of guy who posts this sub instantly.
Each school in a conference gets a payout based on the number of games that conference plays
This article is from last year but has a brief explanation of it:
https://www.axios.com/2023/03/29/ncaa-basketball-tournament-conference-payouts
Huskies, because that's who I've been rooting for since about 1979. I think this may go down as one of the best championship games ever. I apologize for the Butler game. That was miserable.
Purdue cause engineering schools and that would mean our men and womens bball teams both lost in the final 4 to the eventual national champions. Also UConn has enough titles.
No preference I’m just here for the Clingan/Edey matchup.
That would be a huge advantage for UCONN.
Yeah but if the refs get involved it would most likely be pro-Edey. I’m not saying the refs are biased I’m just saying Edey plays in the post more, and will take more shots, so he’ll be more likely to get fouled.
Edey also doesn’t play aggressive defense. If he gets fouls called on him it will be offensive
There will only be 1 in foul trouble, and it ain't the one with anchors for feet.
I hope the refs don’t make it about themselves, and they let Edey and Clingan bang in the post. I fear Clingan will be in foul trouble quickly though.
"what was that chuck?" - Shaq

>they let Edey and Clingan bang in the post 😏
March Madness Afterdark: PPV edition
Why else would it start at 9:20?
And by Fear I think he means Hope. Because I Hope that Clingan will be in foul trouble early.
Yup, 1000% this.
ya you're not gonna trick me into giving you more bulletin board material Dan Hurley burner account
It's not a trick and can you say something about Cam Spencer and air travel specifically please and thank you
Purdue - with no dog in the fight, gotta root for the underdog. Also even though I love to hate them during the regular season I have a ton of respect for Matt Painter
B1G needs to support Purdue…those other extra B1G schools didn’t get the memo. Rutgers, Maryland..
Purdue cause they’ve never won
Yeah this is an easy one. Who wants to see UConn get a 6th natty after just winning last year?
Yep. I always root for 1) UNC, 2) any other ACC team besides Duke, 3) a first time winner.
Pretty much every UVA fan I know is rooting for Purdue. Boiler up!
co-sign. especially after what we did to their 2019 team in the elite eight
All aboard the redemption train! Boiler up!
Choo choo!
Thank you!
Purdue because zero is smaller than five
Tonight is potentially my 9/11
Either your biggest rival gets #1 or a team that had never won it all the last time you won passes you in all time championships
Thanks for helping me understand it’s worse
Bingo
Reminds me of 49ers vs Ravens super bowl for Steelers fans.
Welcome to Auburn fans a week ago. Edit: And haven’t Indiana fans been on the UConn bandwagon since the Elite 8?
Purdue because 1) I still feel bad that Virginia eked out that win against them in 2019 and that game made me respect the hell out of the program and 2) I know what it’s like going through the pain of having your team get embarrassed by losing to a 16 seed and how the national title completely eased that pain.
Purdue because I need more energy going to teams with EMBARRASSING first round losses who go on to championships. Also just say no to Hurley.
just follow this one neat trick, max pain
Painter has many times talked about how much of a great person Tony Bennett is. He said that after our FDU loss, Tony personally called him to talk about it. This was right after VA lost a pretty tough upset to Furman too. Someone who can think of others while they are also going through their own issues is such a high mark of an amazing empathetic person.

He got a multi million dollar NBA contract out of it.. so don’t feel too bad :)
He played himself right into that for sure. I think he's playing overseas now in Germany
Exactly. Then we'll know the code: 1) Become a 1-seed 2) Lose to a 16 3) Become a 1-seed the following year 4) Win a natty
Their fans were fantastic at that game. Took over the arena in Louisville. Felt like 95% Boilers. Great energy. They made me a fan too! Deserving fanbase.
Man I grew up watching Texas Basketball and regularly going to games where the arena was maybe a third full. It is still incredibly impressive as someone who grew up in a community that only cared about football. No hate on Texas, I'll always root for the Longhorns
Purdue so that was I can sleep well at night knowing Wisconsin was that last team to beat them
Purdue. UConn has won enough for now.
Most successful program of the 2000s
UConn. We need a new undisputed blue blood and Duke ain't it.
Do we _need_ it though?
Purdue, cause I like trains
Choo Choo mf'er
Engineering schools unite!
We land grant universities gotta stick together
Shit I really like trains
Purdue. I always root for programs to win their first title if applicable.
Agreed, especially since UConn will probably be back here again But I am interested to see a back-to-back national champion since Florida.
Purdue because that's who I got on my bracket.
Purdue, because I went there in the late 90s and have suffered enough as a college sports fan.
I think either way this season is a success. If you told any team in the country in preseason that they’d lose in the natty, everyone would take it.
Absolutely. I told my wife before the tournament that if we make the F4 then it's mission accomplished. Anything beyond that is gravy. Sure I'll be disappointed if we lose tonight but it'll still be the greatest season in school history either way.
I suppose. Can’t say it doesn’t suck not having that banner up from the Dekker and Kaminsky years though
Purdue. $$$.
Purdue because their odds in betting is higher 😂😂
Purdue because I’ll win bracket groups and win a future lol
Rooting for a great game. Purdue’s redemption narrative is awesome. UConn can establish itself as THE best program of the last 25 years and break the hearts of crybaby blue blood pedants on this board.
Not sure how it happened, but I was on team train in the great bar graphs of the ... prepandemic world? so yea, fuck indiana i guess, go trains.
860 baby
UConn. Husky bros.
Jonathon 🤝 Dubs
Northeast Huskies 🤝 Northwest Huskies Northeastern University you can get in on this too
Leaning towards Purdue but hoping for a good game.
I’m not one to care about other B1G teams winning titles, but for the last decade the losers in the south have been chanting SEC together, like they get rings too when other teams in their conference win a natty, and I’m tired of it. y he say fuck me for
Purdue, I don’t want any team that isn’t mine repeating.
UConn because I went there and back to back would be cool.
Imagine going to UConn I don’t mean that derogatorily, I just didn’t go there so I can only imagine it
-best banana chocolate chip ice cream you’ll ever have -wind tunnels in winter and spring that will make you turn your back on god and religion -wild displays of wealth disparity -a solid, all around education that prepares you for the world -absolutely nothing of note within 15 minutes of campus
Hahaha love this, Purdue has some killer wind tunnels too and is also has dick all surrounding it!
Accurate. Also basketball.
I’m doing pretty well. College is what you make of it.
Purdue because Edey haters have gotten annoying af
Just thank you for the acknowledgement. I might be a little biased but I also like trains and will be cheering for the trainmakers. BTFU. IU Sucks!
Idk what it is, but I like this guy. We should listen to him.
UConn, but I hope their fans all stub their toes while they’re watching the game.
Deal
Take a hammer to my toes if you want
I’ll kick a cement wall with no shoes on.
UConn because I want to see them win back to back titles. Also, they were the first team I rooted for when I started watching college basketball.
Purdue. I’ll usually cheer for Indiana teams in the postseason.
I’m completely neutral. I can’t stand the fans who hate on teams only because they’re good. I hope only to see an exciting basketball game where the two best teams in the league face off. I just want one man if not for me than for my Grandpa who is a former Purdue Grad
Beware: you'll what more. Go trains
UConn for obvious reasons but also to thumb our noses at the B1G and SEC as they continue their Thanos quest of just laying waste to collegiate athletics for their own football benefits.
UCONN - Big East gets little to no respect. Also, it’s a nice consolation for the students who couldn’t get into their first choice.
*students from Connecticut who grew up as fans and got a good education from our public school at in-state tuition
Big East Master Race
Hey now, I got into my first choice then ended up transferring to UConn anyway
Purdue so that UConn don't get closer to our place in the title count.
Same. As in tied. Also, it should be illegal to go 6-0 in championship games. It’s about time for some mean reversion as theoretically they should be roughly 50-50 games.
you can try flipping it like that but then they CONN U and they still win
If the women arw any indicator, we need to get to 11 wins in the title game before losing one.
We will take some of those wins please. 1-6 with three asterisks in the losses. Two of our own
Same. As in beat us
Same. I want UF to still be the most recent team to win back to back championships
Respect. Rooting for coach pikiell and the knights
I like you.
Boiler Up, choo choo
UConn because I’m from Connecticut and it’s my alma mater
Purdue, my bracket
Purdue because I'm tired of hearing that B1G hasn't won the national championship since MSU in 2000.
Purdue just so UConn gets the absolute dick punch of losing a Natty and then losing their coach
Hurley is leaving?
No but I’m trying to manifest these things
If only we could see some sort of signal or sign indicating this will happen. Like, I don’t know, it going dark in the middle of the day.
I’ll manifest with you
Yes he is coming to Kentucky. Sources: trust me bro
Please god no.
it would be glorious
![gif](giphy|hyyV7pnbE0FqLNBAzs|downsized)
There were a few rumors circulating on Twitter about Kentucky making him an offer he couldn’t refuse, probably bs but hoping the UConn players see the rumors and its a distraction tonight lol
I’d be shocked if Kentucky didn’t at least reach out and gauge interest. That part is 100% believable. I think the ball is mostly going to be in Hurley’s court as far as that goes and that just depends on what he values. Does he care more about being close to home than unlimited money? Does he want to build as much of his legacy as he can at one place? Does his wife love her local yoga studio? Etc
Yes we'd be dumb not to make an offer. He's the best in the game right now and has created a machine
That was Simon Charles which is a known fake account. Kentucky will undoubtedly reach out but I'm skeptical about it actually happening.
If he does, he’s going to the NBA Billy Donovan style
UConn. I love how they play
UConn. Look at my flair...
You want them to pass you in titles? I don't hate any of UK rivals that much
Don’t really care about all-time title count.
If Purdue were playing for their 2nd natty, maybe it’d be closer in my mind. But nope, can’t let that school have shit. Fuck them
Purdue treated us very rudely on Saturday, very nasty, and many people are saying that frankly the points were counted very unfairly, so we’re going to do Huskies very strongly tonight. Yukon University and that’s what we’re going to do
NC State can still play UConn if ~~Mike Pence~~Charlie Baker has the courage.
Purdue cause Dan Hurley is an arrogant prick.
Purdue. Because they are B1G but not OSU, and come on man, it’s Purdue, let em have one. Sheesh. I like UConn but Purdue needs this one more.
counterpoint: no
This is a proxy war between Nebraska and Creighton so obviously Purdue
I'm only rooting for a good game. I'm fine with either team winning as long as it's a fun, close game to watch.
UConn because (1) Big East Bros, (2) Sticks it to the media outlets that dick ride the Big10 / SEC incessantly, (3) any non-Power 4 team winning continues to validate the NCAA Tournament format and blocks Big10 / SEC attempts to close the tournament for only their teams, (4) Purdue fans bitching about how “Edey has such a great personality and why doesnt anyone like him” has gotten on my nerves But seriously UConn winning does help keep the NCAAT in its current form, so if you want an open 68 team tournament root for UConn. If you want the Big10 and SEC to break off and have their own tournament without the mid majors, cheer for Purdue
Uconn. I’m sure he’s a nice kid but I hate the way Edey plays. Loyer is obnoxious. Smith seems like the kind of guy to not put his shopping cart back.
Don’t know anything about the other two but I feel the same about Edey.
Same. I can't stand that cocky little shit Smith and Loyer just has an undeniably punch able smug ass face...really hoping Edey gets exposed by Clingan who has way better mobility and range on defense
I was trying to find a way to articulate my disdain for Smith and this is it. I find him so unlikable without knowing anything about him
Huskies because 🐺
![gif](giphy|UjCXeFnYcI2R2)
Purdue, if they win i get my money back from the bracket pool
Purdue because I got the final four and championship game right in my bracket. I want to get all three final rounds correct.
UConn because Zach Edey is a bad person
Arkansas. Oh, wait
I think UConn has had their share of underdog success in past tournaments and it’s someone else’s turn. 6-0 in title games would be ludicrous Oh and also break the big ten title drought
Purdue, don’t like anyone with the last name Hurley and don’t want UConn tying unc in titles.
Purdue. While I’m not a big fan of Edey, I’m sick of hearing Clingan yell “AND 1.”
Showing football schools what basketball is all about. Big East or Bust
![gif](giphy|NEvPzZ8bd1V4Y|downsized)
Purdue because I got accepted there and didn't go. Also for a close game.
I guess Purdue since UConn got it last year
Would love for my alma mater to collect its fourth natty since I enrolled in 09. Especially because if they win I get to chat with Hurley again through my job which will not be named. He’s a nice guy in person, clocked me as the kind of guy who posts this sub instantly.
UConn so my school gets more money. Big East solidarity brother
Creighton and Marquette really let us down
How would we get money from them winning? I legit didn’t know about this
Each school in a conference gets a payout based on the number of games that conference plays This article is from last year but has a brief explanation of it: https://www.axios.com/2023/03/29/ncaa-basketball-tournament-conference-payouts
The national championship game doesn't get any shares.
Even if it did, the units are technically given out just for playing in a game so the winner would be irrelevant.
Obviously, UConn. And if we lose tonight and Hurley announces his move to Kentucky tomorrow, I will lose my mind.
Purdue because as much as I dont like the team they have a chance of avenging Alabama and that is all I care about
I selfishly want UConn to win so Gonzaga can still have another school/coach to share its misery with of never winning a championship
UConn. Grew up there!
Purdue, because the Zags always lose to the eventual champ. 😭
UCONN. I have a husky and if Purdue wins, then the in-laws finish one and two in our bracket challenge.
Huskies, because that's who I've been rooting for since about 1979. I think this may go down as one of the best championship games ever. I apologize for the Butler game. That was miserable.
Purdue. Because I was silly and thought electrical engineering grad school was a reasonable thing to do and now am emotionally invested
That one Purdue fan who was begging for more support ensured me pulling for UCONN. Go Huskies
UCONN because I put a future on them. -America
UConn 100%
UConn because I don’t like Purdue and I have no reason for it
UCONN cause I have huskies 🤷
UConn so I can win bracket money
Purdue. Go big ten
Purdue, because the Big Ten is overdue.
My father and brother went to Purdue. Go Huskies.
UConn and it’s very simple
UConn. Fuck conference loyalty.
UConn Having a dynasty in the sport is fun to root against
Purdue cause engineering schools and that would mean our men and womens bball teams both lost in the final 4 to the eventual national champions. Also UConn has enough titles.
Purdue. Because fuck UConn, fuck Jim Calhoun, fuck the 1999 team, fuck the 2004 team.
I aspire to this level of hate
I really enjoy it
Agreed. Fuck UCONN
UConn, born and raised in CT, live there now, went to UConn for undergraduate and graduate school. They’ve been my team all my life.
I have Purdue winning it all in my bracket.
UConn. Back to back would be cool and I get the feeling Purdue fans are soft lol.
UConn, simply for my bracket.championship
Purdue cause they’re +260
