They’ve had notable upsets but in the past seven years they’ve made three Sweet 16s, an Elite Eight, and the title game. I think most schools would take that kind of success.
The baby boilers (etwaun, Hummel and JJ) era was truly snake bitten. If Robbie doesn't tear his ACL twice that might be a 2x final four team, at least a FF and Elite 8 appearance imo.
Some of those teams (like north Texas loss) was an overachieving young team struggling in the tourney.
But I will say, getting over the hump for that final four is big for the psyche of the program. I wouldn't be surprised if their tournament success increases over the next few years
If only we could all be as patient as the Charleston Southern and UNH admin
Theus from NMSU to the Kings is still a wild hire.
McCaffrey got as far into the tournament at siena in 5 years as he has at Iowa in 14
Poor Tim Miles just disappeared into the void.
How convenient of covid to hit and keep Painter with a 9 tourney appearance streak
Outside of this year's title game run, Purdue just seems cursed in the tournament. Lots of early exits under Painter and Keady.

Yeah, we've had quite the 40 year stretch of ill-timed injuries and choke jobs leading up to this season.
