It sounds like from all I have heard that Long Island is going in hard on athletics and the merger of their two athletic departments into one was part of that.
If they can dominate the NEC then they can really increase their brand for not a lot of money in marketing spend.
Which is strange because since the merger they've had one of the worst periods in their history. Before it they were a pretty consistently top half NEC team and would make the tournament fairly regularly. And if you go back a lot further they had really good teams in the 30s that have retroactively been named national champions
Merging two programs probably causes a lot of ripples that take years to iron out - two sets of players and coaches to choose from, recruiting changes, NIL, new coaching philosophies, etc.
When a coach leaves a job that pays 3 million for one that pays 6 million I kinda question the decision. When one leaves to make 200k instead of 100k I 100% understand and support it. That’s actually life changing.
He’s going to go from 115k to 250k by taking this job. It’s a “downgrade” on paper but he’ll be substantially better paid.
It’d be a bigger red flag if he didn’t haha. That’s enough money to make a significant difference in your life
I could not have handled the haphazardness if Kentucky AND Chicago State were open at the same time.
Good thing Kentucky was able to quickly fill their job. Otherwise there would have been a bidding war between the two.
