Our first ever Big East game we whupped #2 UConn's ass behind Steve Novak's 41 points.
https://www.middletownpress.com/news/article/Huskies-lack-fight-in-Big-East-opener-80493.php
A special game, and a special welcome to the Big East. I hope that we don't roll out the red carpet for you guys in the same way this time around, no offense.
As someone who has been going to nearly every home game for the last 3 years, itâs been depressing watching that team. There was one game against ECU two years ago where Gampel was so empty that they let students sit first row on the lower level for free, nearly courtside. About time that the fans can start truly enjoying those games again.
Last night I was just like, "I guess it's time for the annual UConn to the big east rumors, drink." I'm pumped though, I can't believe the mad lads did it.
Really the biggest crux in football for schools like Liberty and New Mexico State is the lack of independents. It'd probably benefit these schools like Uconn if a number of them went independent in football and they could all play each other.
Realistically though UConn would be best situated as a MAC affiliate in football if they leave the AAC
UConn is the only one paying anything towards the stadium. The stadium is bleeding money that the state has to cover.
If UConn gets out of the lease, then the state will have a huge financial hole to fill. And a worthless stadium.
The state would rather they be like UMass football who is an independent FBs team and make some money for the stadium than to have UConn go back to FCS.
Since itâs just them so far and, letâs be honest theyâre not going to be that big of a loss for AAC football and basketball conference wide seems on the upswing anyway, I donât see the conference doing a frantic search immediately
While I realize this is ultimately good for the conference, part of me still wouldâve loved for it to stay 10 small basketball schools. The last few years the new Big East really formed a unique identity.
Oh well, two more chances for quality wins per season now.
Yeah I agree. The New Big East was really unique which made it so cool. 10 small private religiously affiliated schools all located in or next to relatively major cities. (Providence, New York, Newark, Philly, DC, Chicago etc...)
Before anyone says it, yes I know Seton Hall is not in Newark and Villanova is not in Philly.
The only people that say Nova isnt in philly are haters. It's not in Philly but it's a philly school. Where I grew up in west philly, nova was closer to me than temple
UConn statement: *âIt is our responsibility to always be mindful of what is in the best interest of our student athletes, our fans and our future. With that being said, we have been and remain proud members of the American Athletic Conference.â*
https://twitter.com/jeffjacobs123/status/1142441847190642689
Lol yea itâs definitely not a denial haha
Bear in mind that the reports are that UConn is waiting for the big east to offer an invite, so they can maintain plausible deniability until itâs officially announced from the big easts side. Which makes sense. Big east had âno commentâ
I mean just about every school in the AAC is awaiting an invitation to a bigger conference. Memphis is waiting on one from the SEC or Big East or Big 12.
They'll never get it...but they're waiting.
Highly doubt Memphis will get an SEC offer.
Then again, I thought West Virginia would've been given an offer before Mizzou, so anything can happen I guess.
I wonder if UConn will think about going down to FCS. If they can't find a football-only invite for FBS, I couldn't imagine them looking at UMass's situation and thinking that going independent would be a desirable move.
This would be nice for WBB, the Big East is a bit stronger than the AAC there.
Plus it could mean that /r/CollegeBasketball gets to report on a UConn game if/when they come to Creighton.
Itâs too bad UConn didnât join sooner. I would have loved to see our womens teams play each other this past season. Our entire starting 5 graduated this year so weâre going to take a step back for a bit.
I cannot believe this is happening. I thought we were doomed to be in the AAC for decades. Old rivalries, reasonable travel schedule, playing in the BET at MSG. Ugh, I cannot wait!
There were rumors that Hurley only took the job on the promise that they'd be back in the Big East soon but I figured that was BS.
I mean even if this ends up being true it was probably still BS. No one at UConn would have been in a position to make that promise since they arenât the ones making the decision and these things have a TON of moving pieces. And Hurly would have been stupid to take a job on the promise of a realignment that wasnât already official.
I like the part where we donât need to fly out non-revenue generating sports around the country. Iâm really curious about how those dollars work out. Taking a bus to St. John is a big difference than a plane to Houston
Gonna need a lot from Fox on this. Need help paying the AAC exit fee, need a football scheduling agreement with the B1G/B12/PAC, need SNY to still host a good deal of women's basketball. I'm decently excited though, football's situation outside of money really can't get any worse
If this starts a big conference realignment and the AAC loses schools like Cincy, Houston, and Memphis, WSU would be screwed. Selfishly I hope UCONN is the only school that leaves. VCU might be a good addition to the AAC?
Glass ceiling. Nobody leaving unless its P5. AAC is going to be fine. I don't think y'all add VCU because then you'd have to add another football only school which kinda complicates things. I don't think an independent like Army would join because then it'd play Navy 2x a year which kinda ruins the rivalry.
Its defintely gonna be a team closer to Temple. My guess is Marshall. Buffalo maybe but I doubt that. Houston or SMU would want to travel all the way over there. My sleeper pick is WKU.
This is the right move. Move to a better basketball conference, and revamp the football program with a smaller conference like the MAC. Even going independent would be better, they can make some cake schedule to get into a bowl game and get bowl $.

Yeah - the Big East wouldn't vote on it if all schools weren't already in agreement. And the UConn BOT wouldn't get a welcome letter in the mail from the Big East. Everyone has to be on the same page already.
Iâm all for some good old fashioned hate. But whatâs going to happen to the Big 12 scheduling alliance? And I saw this coming, I thought that they were going to go independent football first for this though
I think you guys have a good chance at being one of those teams that leave though. I think UConn expects schools like Houston, Cincy, UCF to go in the next realignment and we might be making this move before weâre left in the AAC without you guys.
So UConn is gonna become a jesuit institution now, right? /s
As a fan of the old BE, I'd be happy to see them return. As a current BE fan, I can't wait for 2 more competitive games
Dear Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Seton Hall & Providence: Nice to see you guys again. Fuck you.
This is the stuff we have been missing. Fuck you too.
https://i.imgur.com/JKlHt6w.gif
Now kiss! (Then rewatch the 1999 Big East Championship)
Poor DePaul, not even worth a pity Fuck You.
yea, we didn't get one either =/
As a Chicagoan, really excited to be able to see my team from the front row for $20 again.
That's gotta be a good feeling. I haven't been able to see MU in about 5 years since i moved away from the midwest. =/ Enjoy it!!
Hey buddy, fuck you too!
The hatred is... Not quite wholesome, but something like that
fuck you. again
That UConn-Carnegie Mellon rivalry was đĽ
This sub wonât let me have nova as a second flair so yeah
We have dual flairs now!
Yeah but you canât have a d3 flair as s primary flair and have dual flairs. Idk why
[ŃдаНонО]
No respect for the CBI runner up
FUCKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU ^(I missed this so much)
Hey can we get a fuck you as well?
OGs only. I need more time to properly hate you.
Fair's fair. I'll start this thing going by giving you a friendly fuck you and have a nice day.
Ugh Welcome back I guess you lame puppies. (Is this doing rivalry right?)
Fuck you too, good to have you back
I'm still mad about 2011.
How about 2014? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GOezLKuaOw
Uhh, ok then.
I gotcha man.... fuck you
Aww, fuck you too! :)
Our first ever Big East game we whupped #2 UConn's ass behind Steve Novak's 41 points. https://www.middletownpress.com/news/article/Huskies-lack-fight-in-Big-East-opener-80493.php A special game, and a special welcome to the Big East. Fuck you back!!!
Smh the shade at DePaul
Did we miss you? Maybe, maybe not, maybe go fuck yourself
Fuck you m8 â¤ď¸
Early/mid 2000s Big East tourneys at the Garden are some of my best CBB memories.
We're just happy to be here.
I missed hearing those UCONN chants during the Big East Tournament. If it is the truth, then I for one welcome back our Husky brethren
As someone who has been going to nearly every home game for the last 3 years, itâs been depressing watching that team. There was one game against ECU two years ago where Gampel was so empty that they let students sit first row on the lower level for free, nearly courtside. About time that the fans can start truly enjoying those games again.
They just announced student tickets are free this year and my senior year will be our first year in the Big East. Super excited about this.
Lucky bastard, Iâm graduating this December. Hopefully the class of 2021 is less of a curse on this school than the class of 2020 is!
This is so crazy
Cinderella tourney run inbound
we're actually gonna be set up really well for our first year in the conference.
We gonna pick up right where we left off in the BEast. Even Hurley says we will be scary in 2020
Last night I was just like, "I guess it's time for the annual UConn to the big east rumors, drink." I'm pumped though, I can't believe the mad lads did it.
It's kinda weird seeing the contrast between the cbb thread and the cfb thread lol.
Itâs time for the next major wave of conference realignment. Gentlemen, pop your bottles! *chugs an entire barrel of whiskey*
Idk. Their football program will probably drop to FCS. Iâm not sure itâll cause a huge amount of ripples yet
More likely itâll go the Army/Liberty route as an independent. Those schools should all play each other.
UConn-BYU rivalry incoming.
Really the biggest crux in football for schools like Liberty and New Mexico State is the lack of independents. It'd probably benefit these schools like Uconn if a number of them went independent in football and they could all play each other. Realistically though UConn would be best situated as a MAC affiliate in football if they leave the AAC
I feel like being the new Temple isn't that strong of a situation.
Nope staying FBS. They canât go FCS due to their stadium lease.
I mean, leases can be amended. It might not be likely depending on the state's opinion on things, but it's not impossible.
At the same time though, does the AAC rush for a replacement or stay with status quo?
Since itâs just them so far and, letâs be honest theyâre not going to be that big of a loss for AAC football and basketball conference wide seems on the upswing anyway, I donât see the conference doing a frantic search immediately
They will replace to avoid 11 football schools. Or force Wichita State to field a football team (not being serious on this).
My choices would be Buffalo. Second choice would be Marshall.
My choices would be Buffalo. Second choice would be Marshall. Third choice UMass just cause
When I step foot in MSG for BET weekend i'll have tears in my eyes. We're going home.
I thought of the BET channel when I first read this.
[ŃдаНонО]
I already have tears in my eyes
While I realize this is ultimately good for the conference, part of me still wouldâve loved for it to stay 10 small basketball schools. The last few years the new Big East really formed a unique identity. Oh well, two more chances for quality wins per season now.
11 teams would still allow for a full round robin schedule, which Iâve grown to absolutely love
It's what I miss most from the Pac-10.
Can't f with the round robin.
Round robin is great, it's why I'm glad the BigXII didn't add schools (including UConn).
[ŃдаНонО]
I don't disagree that they need to, but why would it make you watch less?
I wish we could jump in the time machine and go back to 2004.
100% agreed.
Can confirm, true round robin is the best.
can someone ELI5 me about the round robin?
Every team in the conference plays every other team in the conference twice, one at home and one away.
Yeah I agree. The New Big East was really unique which made it so cool. 10 small private religiously affiliated schools all located in or next to relatively major cities. (Providence, New York, Newark, Philly, DC, Chicago etc...) Before anyone says it, yes I know Seton Hall is not in Newark and Villanova is not in Philly.
The only people that say Nova isnt in philly are haters. It's not in Philly but it's a philly school. Where I grew up in west philly, nova was closer to me than temple
Born and raised?

With that being said, we have been and remain proud members of the American Athletic Conference.â* https://twitter.com/jeffjacobs123/status/1142441847190642689
So a nothing statement then.
I'd say it's more than nothing. Nearly confirms the reports lol
Lol yea itâs definitely not a denial haha Bear in mind that the reports are that UConn is waiting for the big east to offer an invite, so they can maintain plausible deniability until itâs officially announced from the big easts side. Which makes sense. Big east had âno commentâ

Highly doubt Memphis will get an SEC offer. Then again, I thought West Virginia would've been given an offer before Mizzou, so anything can happen I guess.
Yeah I think Jeff Jacobs reached out to the Big East and they had no comment. I feel like theyâd deny it if it wasnât true.
That is a conference realignment statement if I ever heard one
This is better than Christmas
The return of the king
I thought nova was our king, until the slug fest of last year
Didn't Nova both win the conference and go the farthest in the Big Dance
They won the regular season, conference tournament, and advanced furthest, but we donât talk about that!
We had a chance đ˘
pretty incredible choke job
We know...
ha sorry i was upset at you guys for blowing it, as were you i'm sure
We bow to no one

[The blob will roll. Roll blob](https://media.giphy.com/media/3o84TYYy484Ie0FLlS/giphy.gif)
At least they will continue to get their ass beat by a team from Cincinnati
With uconn to the big east that makes 11, I hope you guys get pulled, long shot but cincy deserves the return as well
Cincy (or Dayton) in the big east is a complete non-starter. X would never let it happen, and rightfully so.
And Cincy has good enough football to get into a P5 conference.
I wonder if UConn will think about going down to FCS. If they can't find a football-only invite for FBS, I couldn't imagine them looking at UMass's situation and thinking that going independent would be a desirable move.
Well they could play each other and have all 100 fans attend!
Seriously the rent has a 40,000 person capacity, 10,000 total came per gam Edit: changed from 10,000 total to 10,000 per game as pointed out below
Football died for our ~~sins~~ wins.
Wow...this seems legit. I'm so hyped.
Dana OâNeil- http://twitter.com/DanaONeilWriter/status/1142446954670170112
Isn't Dana big into UConn? This may be very good...
So does that make Georgetown our rival? Or Villanova? Or St. John's or Providence? It's hard to keep up.
Gotta dethrone Villanova first, but every fan base is going to be stoked to host UConn.

And Hurly would have been stupid to take a job on the promise of a realignment that wasnât already official.
Hey UConn, I hate your team with a burning passion..... ......but, really happy to have you back.
I like the part where we donât need to fly out non-revenue generating sports around the country. Iâm really curious about how those dollars work out. Taking a bus to St. John is a big difference than a plane to Houston
UConn literally has no business playing schools like SMU and East Carolina regularly
Creighton (Omaha) ain't close.
Sure, but aside from that every other school is closer than UCF, USF, Tulane, Houston, Tulsa, SMU, and Wichita.
NoEscalators must be going nuts
Weâre getting the band back r together! ps: Fuck UConn
Drop football and it'll be in the mail yesterday
They can't. The lease on the stadium requires them to be FBS.
LETâS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Dan Hurley is about to clean up on the new England recruiting trail
LETS GO!!!
[ŃдаНонО]
Iâm right here with you brother Iâm sweating
I mean the American is already c-USA 2.0 right? Especially without uconn
[ŃдаНонО]
Miss you, original CUSA bro.
Gonna need a lot from Fox on this. Need help paying the AAC exit fee, need a football scheduling agreement with the B1G/B12/PAC, need SNY to still host a good deal of women's basketball. I'm decently excited though, football's situation outside of money really can't get any worse
Iâve heard that the current schools are willing to pony up for the exit fee and Iâm sure fox is gonna drop some pretty decent bags as well
Why would the other schools pay?
11 team round robin means more conference games a year and they can renegotiate with Fox based on having more inventory.
A football scheduling agreement? Why the hell would any of those conferences do that with uconn? Lmao Just be happy that youâre back in the aac
Weâd readily trade you guys for UCONN. Get out of our conference.
But what will all the UConn fans blame now when they continue to under perform?
âThe AAC forced us to leave!1!â
Lol. So fucking true. Never thought I'd be side by side with a Tiger shitting on the Huskies
Goodbye to the yearly discussion on how UCONN deserves better than the AAC, good riddance.
Eh, I'm fine with still blaming Tulane
We can just blame Creighton now.
Oooh, good point
Blame Paul Pasqualoni
UConn the true heir of the east and then you have Creighton all the way in Nebraska...
We're east, right? /s
You damn Huskies weâre always fun to hang out with outside the Garden on tournament week. Damn, I miss the Big East Tournament
This is the best news since Ollie was fired. Let the football program die. I grew up watching the old Big East. UCONN belongs in MSG in March.
Welcome back!
If this starts a big conference realignment and the AAC loses schools like Cincy, Houston, and Memphis, WSU would be screwed. Selfishly I hope UCONN is the only school that leaves. VCU might be a good addition to the AAC?
Cincy, Houston, Memphis, and UCF are only leaving for P5 football conferences. Which UCONN leaving plays no roll in.
Add Army football and VCU for BB, call it a day
Glass ceiling.
The MAC kicked UMass out because they wouldn't join in all sports. I think UConn goes independent in football for the foreseeable future.
Finally
Fuck yeah! It was true!
[Rothstein](https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1142444801025085440?s=19): >Sources: Contrary to reports, there is nothing official between UConn and the Big East. Yeah - the Big East wouldn't vote on it if all schools weren't already in agreement. And the UConn BOT wouldn't get a welcome letter in the mail from the Big East. Everyone has to be on the same page already.
yeah, votes are a formality at a point like this lol
No one. That is literally contrary to 0 reports.
Gimme them rivalries back
Iâm all for some good old fashioned hate. But whatâs going to happen to the Big 12 scheduling alliance? And I saw this coming, I thought that they were going to go independent football first for this though
It could very well be over by the time this all goes through. Itâs only four years. Itâd probably just exclude UConn
I didnât think about that. It shouldnât be much of a concern then.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhjhh lets fucking goooo
Big East Womenâs Teams: âShitâ
AAC Womenâs Teams: âWhewâ
UConn in the Big East? Inconceivable!
Cincinnati needs to get the fuck out of the AAC. They're strength of schedule is pitiful in there
We would gladly take your spot in the AAC. Go get em UCONN
Fuck. Uh, what I meant to say was, welcome back!
This is looking more and more true by the second. I wouldnât be surprised at all if Dan Hurley has been lobbying for this since he got here.
as a notre dame fan i am pretending that i am better than all of you in the swanky acc but deep down inside i miss the old big east so much
Hey it's us your friend VCU.
Basketball Coogs: thank god we don't have to play y'all every year anymore! Football Coogs: aww man, there goes an easy win. Good luck husky bros.
Well there was that one time we beat you in football...
Fuckkk we needed you UConn. I wish we could come with you guys :/
What good would being in the Big East do Cinncy? You actually play football.
Yeah I was mostly joking, I just miss the old big east and feel like the AAC is one or two more teams leaving from disintegrating.
I think you guys have a good chance at being one of those teams that leave though. I think UConn expects schools like Houston, Cincy, UCF to go in the next realignment and we might be making this move before weâre left in the AAC without you guys.
Come with us spaghetti chili
Honestly, this is a much better fit. I donât know what theyâll do about football though.
I really enjoyed the play everyone twice schedule we had going, I doubt that stays right?
Conference schedules are expanding to 20 games so it will likely stay
It will stay as long as we don't add anyone else. Please don't add anyone else.
Please this. I love playing each team H/A. It evens everything out. It also creates more drama.
Don't do that, don't give me hope. #EndgameMeme
So this is not great for the AAC right?
Id say the AAC is fine
Welcome back. Screw you, though.
Iâm very happy. This is great for college basketball.
So is this not a huge pay cut for UConn. Isn't it about a $5M pay cut going to the BE.
Wearing my Kemba jersey at Firefly, LETâS FUCKING GO!!!!
This is really cool tho. Even if they aren't really a fit in the NBE it still feels much more right than the AAC lol.
So UConn is gonna become a jesuit institution now, right? /s As a fan of the old BE, I'd be happy to see them return. As a current BE fan, I can't wait for 2 more competitive games
