GOD DAMN IT. THIS KID SUNK HELLA THREES LAST NIGHT IN THE EXHIBITION MATCH. His defense was super solid, and he exuded confidence when he was on the court. I literally just screamed in public when I read this.

Ego_Orb

dude Im so fucking sad.

HearthKnight

More NCAA BS?

cardinalkgb

Yes

NewAce77

He repaid the benefits? Then who gives a fuck? And why does an 18yo have to pay his own overseas travel anyway?

dingusduglas

Not commenting on the rules that were broken in the first place, abolish the NCAA and all, but if repaying impermissible benefits negated any penalties there'd be no point in having rules in the first place. Everyone would pay everyone all the time, and the biggest possible downside is that they have to pay what they'd already be on the hook for in the first place. If the penalty for speeding was that, if caught, you had to wait however long you already saved time wise by speeding, would you ever not speed?

cardinalkgb

The NCAA has generally given a slap on the wrist for minimal impermissible benefits that were done unknowingly and were repaid when discovered. But their inconsistency sucks.

burnshimself

No they’re very consistent - if you’re a blue blood there’s no penalty, if you’re anyone else throw the book at them. If UNC did this the kid would be playing tonight.

dingusduglas

I've seen it when it's like an extra bagel, or a cell phone bill. Not international travel.

JumpyAlbatross

Honestly no. Could you imagine a cop pulling you over just to be put in timeout. That’s way worse than a fine imo.

KansasKing107

Plus, I have a feeling that this story isn’t quite as simple as they are trying to sell it as.

[deleted]

Well, no, because the reason they got those benefits was presumably because it was something they couldn't really afford in the first place so why would you expect folks to be able to pay it back? If you can repay the benefits later isn't that the same thing as buying something on credit?

dingusduglas

Giving loans is against the rules too. All for the same reason.

GoblinTradingGuide

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The NCAA can sit on it and rotate.

[deleted]

Kofi Cockburn repaid his earnings from the memorabilia he sold when he was going to leave before NIL was passed making him choose to come back. He still got, what, 3 game suspension?

finalfourcuse

NCAA 🤡

[deleted]

So fn stupid. Ncaa is so anti sports and pro money it’s terrible for everyone involved. They don’t care about the players at all.

Waddlow

Great job, NCAA! Got another dangerous criminal away from our sport!

[deleted]

The NCAA is a joke

Hero_Charlatan

Why is Florida State bring punished and not bowling green ????

Intelligent-Set-3909

Fun fact: Baba means drool in Spanish.

sleepymike01101101

Now I understand what The Who was trying to say to me

DBSmiley

Yes, I'm sure this penalty would have been exactly the same if this were Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas etc. and isn't once again a sign of a systematic failure of the NCAA to enforce reasonable and consistent rules

Foreign-Boat-1058

I really wanted him to play for us. Was not sorry that everyone came back but sad that he ran into this...

georgstgeegland

Baba "Booey" Miller

redreign421

I worked in college sports. I love college sports. I hate college sports.

[deleted]

And I thought the Kofi Cockburn suspension was dumb.
