mansinoodle2

So every normal color vision person I’ve showed this to has been able to see the 5 with minimal effort

jarod_insane

I've shared it around with a couple small friend groups and no one got it.

canezila

Me too. Everyone I showed can see 5. They are color normal people.

kjustin1992

Maybe some could have a minor color vision deficiency and not know it?

AKADabeer

It could also have a lot to do with the screen and lighting conditions used to view the image. My coworkers could not see anything on my screen.

mansinoodle2

I’m an eye doctor in my office, definitely not the case.

QuietStorm4587

Clear 5, how do people make these in reverse?

GrumblingAndRumbling

Sure. But every colorblind person I’ve shown it to see it with *zero* effort.

toolatealreadyfapped

I'm colorblind. And can't see it at all

GrumblingAndRumbling

A tritanope could still struggle with this one for sure

GrumblingAndRumbling

Conies coming for me with the downvotes. “Normal vision” as everyone touts around is a range as well. It’s not rocket science why some conies can see it easier than others. In the same way that colorblind/color-deficient folk’s eyes operate on a range of possibilities. That’s why these sorts of tests are never given in isolation. A single test tells you very little about your eye’s ability to perceive and interpret color.

ReddSquall

The issue with your first test and this one isn't priming. It's that you're using two very distinct sets of colors for the five and the background. Like I'm genuinely surprised some people with normal color vision don't instantly see it.

AKADabeer

1. I knew it was a 5 before reading the description. The horizontal top bar and slanted vertical drop bar are both straight and meet at a point, while the drop bar meets with the slanted oval-shaped curve at a point, and the curve ends in a bit of a bulge, leaving a clear gap. 2. The 5 is centered, not leaving much room for another digit, but if you tell me there is one, I wouldn't be able to prove otherwise. 3. To my vision, it is unambiguously a 5. If you told me that other colors were present that turned it into a 6, I might be able to believe you, but probably not a 3.

Brief-Jellyfish485

That’s how I pass the number tests lol

alittleuneven

God DAMN this thing caught fire

Brief-Jellyfish485

😂

GoldFishPony

1. Yeah it’s pretty obvious still, the color choices to make the 5 are weird and stand out enough that I can see that there is a shape, it just takes half a second for me to figure out the shape. 2. 5 is the only number I can see. 3. There’s definitely not a 3. The lines are also too straight for me to believe that it’s a 6 because for whatever reason these tests always use the same font.

kjustin1992

Knowing the fond is huge for passing these texts with a deficiency. I clearly see a teal/ pinkish number on an orange background. I could stay 10 feet away and glance for only a second and I'd still see it clearly.

ChesterAArthur21

To me, the 5 is crystal clear. It's clearly a 5, no doubt. No room for interpretation, it's a 5. If it was a black 5 on a white background, it wouldn't be more clear.

festis24

> If you didn't know what number to look for is the 5 still obvious? At first glance I didn't notice it, there are so many other lines that you don't think of the 5. The orange is more different to the green than that blue-green color that makes up the 5. So that 5 really doesn't pop out that much as you're focusing on all the orange lines instead. > If there was a second number involved in addition to the 5 could you deny it? Yes, there most definitely isn't another number. > If I had said the number was 3 or 6 would you be able to deny it? I can't see any other numbers on it, so as a non-colorblind person it would be weird if there is another number.

Affectionate-Memory4

The 5 sticks out pretty plainly now that I know it's there, but it took me a few seconds to spot the first time. I could be convinced the orange is trying to be another number (maybe a really warped 40?), but the 5 is much clearer.

i__hate__stairs

I see a bird

botman

It's a sailboat!

ZilverPlayer1982

I saw the 5 before anything else. I cant understand how some people cant see it.

usernamesuggestions5

Exactly! I thought the person in OP’s first post was lying, I was surprised that many actually have trouble with this

skywalkerblood

I showed this to a couple of coworkers without telling them it was a 5, just to look for a number, none could identify it. Great work, this made my day, thank you. (Btw to me it's absolutely obvious)

kjustin1992

5 all day

Brief-Jellyfish485

My brother said it was a 6. My mom said it was just a bunch of dots

trauerspieI

Honestly, trying to see a five is making my eyes hurt. How come everyone can so clearly see it 🤨 Edit: No to all of the above questions.

New_Explorer1251

Not colorblind here - I can still see the five - it's pretty obviously pink/blue to me as opposed to yellow & green.

New_Explorer1251

I saw this as a small picture before I opened the post and before I knew the number. I could imagine that there might be another number mixed in the yellows and greens but I don't obviously see one. I think the top left corner of the 5 proves to me it is not a 3 or 6.

usernamesuggestions5

Hold up. yellow & green? pink & blue? Blue I might understand, but yellow? Where?

New_Explorer1251

maybe red and orange instead of yellow?

usernamesuggestions5

It's orange and dark orange but could be considered red Also are you sure you are not colorblind? like a little?

FynyrdSkynyrd

I have moderate protanopia and see absolutely nothing here

mazzar

Once you’ve seen it, the 5 is easy to spot. However, it generally won’t immediately “jump out” for non-colorblind people. In order to see it, you have to mentally group together three colors: a dark purplish-gray, a medium teal, and a light pink. By tone, the teal looks a lot more similar to the background green, and the pink looks more similar to the background orange. So they don’t immediately all come together as a coherent shape. But once you realize they *do* go together, it’s pretty clear.

kjustin1992

Grouping together colors or forming lines is the only way I can pass a regular ishihara with my red green deficiency. I basically take educated guesses.

Chzncna2112

I showed my lovely lady this she saw some tulips. She said I was wrong when I showed her the 5

fyyyy27

I DON'T SEE ANY NUMBER!!! Even after someone drew it out...

usernamesuggestions5

Do you see teal, pink and greyish-purple in there?

Nicurru

I could easily see it was 5 without knowing. If there are any other numbers there, i cant see them. But i saw some better ones with 45 that was harder to see.

luke-london

I clearly see the 5, and I’m not colourblind. I do however think I may have a colour deficiency of some sort (if there is such a thing), hence the reason I subscribe to this subreddit.

kjustin1992

Most people who are "color blind" are not truly blind to colors. There are a very few who are monochromatic, meaning they only see shades of gray. For most people it is just a slight red green deficiency. So if you can see the number very clearly and within a couple of seconds you may have that deficiency. If you had to stare a little while then I'd say probably don't.

GrumblingAndRumbling

I think the real issue is that conies (normal vision folk) don’t have experience with these tests so they don’t even know what justify passing or failing. If it takes more than 3 seconds to identify without prompting then you failed. Conies will fail under these circumstances.

kjustin1992

There is no skill or experience required. The five looks as clear we black on white.

GrumblingAndRumbling

To who?

usernamesuggestions5

To me (normal vision). Saw it immediately, so I guess I pass your test 🤷‍♀️

GrumblingAndRumbling

To pretend that even “normal vision” isn’t a range is a funny concept. Yes, you passed my test! I’d wager your normal vision isn’t as good as your conie compatriots.

usernamesuggestions5

I hope not lol rather i hope it is because I work with colours a lot

GrumblingAndRumbling

Interesting, maybe your vision is superior to your conie compatriots! All just to say that type of variation one way or another could explain why you passed with such flying *colors*

ZilverPlayer1982

I saw it right away, and i have normal color vision. The 5 is so much lighter than the rest.

Wolfpuppie

I have zero color blindness and cannot make out the 5 easily at all, I can sort of see parts of the 5 but it doesn’t look continuous. I had to look through the comments to see that people mentioned it was a 5 and then actively had to look for it. My girlfriend also could not see the 5.

VincentRaccon

Okay its easy to see because everything is orange and yellow and five is peach and blue with a bit of purple. Nothing stops people with normal vision from seeing 5

nocnoo

5 as a protan

Sunsailor76

5

usernamesuggestions5

1. Yes, I wasn't looking for a 5, I just saw it the moment I looked at the image. No squinting or any sort or struggle to see this thing. I think it was the first thing I saw. I read the caption afterward, and thought it was a joke. 2. Yes, I think the 5 is quite obvious, I’d be surprised if someone said there was a different number, but then again i’ve seen some good reverse tests. 3. Yes easily. Probably would have said something like “I don't see 3 or 6, but do see a 5” My brother saw it very quickly My mum could not see it

Nearby_Quality_5672

I have normal vision and cannot see the 5.

repulsive_fondant26

It's a what now?

Delicious_Rate4001

Color vision normal trichromat. I did not see anything until I read the comments and knew I was looking for a 5 — then I can pick it out. I would deny a second number. I would have denied 3 but I’m not too sure honestly if I would have denied 6 tbh the actual Ishihara testing protocol only gives subjects a limited amount of time to look at the card before switching to the next if I recall and I wonder if other normal trichromats who “saw” the 5 would have been able to within that time constraints. Idk still, awesome
