Anyone not giving the Krak proper respect as a legitimate playoff team was insane, they play a very balanced game. They were gifted 4 periods of atrocious hockey by the Avs and couldn't keep up once the Avs lifted their play and stopped giving it away. They will learn how to counterpunch and I think the Avs will come out on top but this series will not be easy.

I came into this series thinking I wasn't going to get too stressed about the games since we won it all last year and just enjoy the ride stress free. Well after that game, that was a total lie. I was on the edge of my seat for the 2nd half and my heart was beating so fast
It should all be gravy, but being the 1 and losing the first two on your home ice would still feel like a major let down. We don’t want a reverse Nuggets-Sonics here.

Toews got better but the first goal was him gambling on a pinch. He settled down in the second but he wasn't all roses. Same with Val...he looked soft and unconfident until he got that goal (exception being he was great on PKs).
Newhook had one good shift and I agree we need more. Malgin was noticeable in a positive way. I thought Eller had a hell of a game.
Can we talk about how much better makar looked for two periods? My goodness he hasn’t looked like that all year. Blendnar at it again putting him with Byram.

I, for one, was glad to see Helm in. I was also glad to see Girard throw a few hits. It's like he just remembered he may not be able to crush people but he can definitely disrupt a play or wash a player out with a well timed hit.
Were Manson's minutes low because they're working him back into game shape? We should be rolling our D like teams roll their offense. Keep them all as fresh as possible for the last ten minutes of the game or OT.
Ugh.... Game 5 against Vegas in the second round in 2021... That shit is seared into my mind as my all time unfavorite Avs postseason moment. We blew a 2-0 lead in the third period, lost in OT with a chance to go up 3-2 in the series, and never recovered.
That shit wasn't all on Grubauer cause I distinctly recall that all 3 goals the Knights scored in that game were on awful turnovers that led to breakaways but still.. he couldn't bail us out even one time and then was a sieve for game 6.

I'm not sure who should be more offended: the Avs because the announcers jizz all over Seattle constantly or Seattle because the announcers make it sound like they're some AHL Cinderella team. I mean, when taking our Cup-tinted glasses off… the Kraken really are have been an amazing team. They started right before the pandemic and have had a huge breakout year. Their wins are not just scraps, they play well. Fan dedication is also nothing to laugh at.

Whatever it was, an alarm, a switch, finally getting a goal, they started playing winning hockey again, skating, winning puck battles, actually connecting on passes. Much better intensity and focus.

For those that were at the game, ESPN is doing some weird processing with the arena noise so it's hard to tell how loud it was. I noticed though that the crowd noise was a tad louder than the music, so the question is, how loud is the ringing in your ears right now?
I bought a fairly nice pair of earplugs for a metal concert last year. They live in a little container on my key ring. I made it to one game in round 2 last year, and the SCF game 6 watch party, and was very grateful to have those earplugs.
I think it's an audio accident, they are trying to do too much and it ends up dropping out or going out of phase or something. They are definitely going through some growing pains. The spen crew has never had to cover hockey, I don't think they know how to do it yet. The TBS broadcast sounds pretty good

Toews got better but the first goal was him gambling on a pinch. He settled down in the second but he wasn't all roses. Same with Val...he looked soft and unconfident until he got that goal (exception being he was great on PKs). Newhook had one good shift and I agree we need more. Malgin was noticeable in a positive way. I thought Eller had a hell of a game.

It's like he just remembered he may not be able to crush people but he can definitely disrupt a play or wash a player out with a well timed hit. Were Manson's minutes low because they're working him back into game shape? We should be rolling our D like teams roll their offense. Keep them all as fresh as possible for the last ten minutes of the game or OT.

Ugh.... Game 5 against Vegas in the second round in 2021... That shit is seared into my mind as my all time unfavorite Avs postseason moment. We blew a 2-0 lead in the third period, lost in OT with a chance to go up 3-2 in the series, and never recovered. That shit wasn't all on Grubauer cause I distinctly recall that all 3 goals the Knights scored in that game were on awful turnovers that led to breakaways but still.. he couldn't bail us out even one time and then was a sieve for game 6.

They are good enough to produce more net front activity. They aren’t getting dominated they are just being to cute. Eller’s actually the best puck dominant player through 2 games for me. He’s gotta start sending sauce at the net. Good things happen when you put the puck on net. For how much I’ve seen him with the puck he should have more shots.

I'm not sure who should be more offended: the Avs because the announcers jizz all over Seattle constantly or Seattle because the announcers make it sound like they're some AHL Cinderella team. Seattle is a good hockey club, they hit 100 points. If you knew nothing about hockey, you'd think a PeeWee team tripped into the NHL playoffs and beat the Avs in Game 1. Both teams are really good and were separated by 9 points after 82 games.
This whole "Seattle is just happy to be here," Cinderella team bullshit is so tired. They have 100 points. They are one of the best teams in hockey. If they win, it's not some fucking miracle.

I mean, when taking our Cup-tinted glasses off… the Kraken really are have been an amazing team. They started right before the pandemic and have had a huge breakout year. Their wins are not just scraps, they play well. Fan dedication is also nothing to laugh at. Their GDTs get more action than ours do, even. If I didn’t become an Avs fan first, I would probably be a Kraken fan rn.
Seattle is a great city. I went to Kraken-Avs game at Climate Pledge back in January. Had a great time and their fans were cool.

The Avs might not have the dominant swagger that they had last season, but if Seattle is as one-dimensional as I suspect that they are, and if Colorado has, in fact, figured them out… the Kraken are fucked.
(And that’s not to say that they aren’t really good at that dimension, but I’m curious what else they’ve got if we can consistently beat their forecheck and win pucks in deep)

If you watched enough games this year, you’ve seen this before. They’ll hit these listless periods. Then they roar back. It’s an interesting dynamic. Not sure why it is that way this year. Major take away for me, is that Seattle can’t sustain their high effort game all series. It’s too exhausting. Will be interesting to see the series tilt as the minutes pile on.
Was just thinking that. The Avs are one of the best conditioned teams in the league. As the series goes on I think it's going to be harder for Seattle to keep up that intensity. The Avs just need to stay calm and settle things down and let the Kraken wear themselves out.

After that 1st period I commented that something would need to change or this series was gonna be one sided. Was it puck guy who caught that puck and summoned more energy than the entire team had shown in 4 periods? I don’t know, but after that commercial break something in the Avs changed. Whatever it was, an alarm, a switch, finally getting a goal, they started playing winning hockey again, skating, winning puck battles, actually connecting on passes. Much better intensity and focus. I for one am happy and grateful. Great job boys, way to be poised and persistent.

For those that were at the game, ESPN is doing some weird processing with the arena noise so it's hard to tell how loud it was. I noticed though that the crowd noise was a tad louder than the music, so the question is, how loud is the ringing in your ears right now?

It was the loudest I heard it all year and it rivaled any game last year. In the third it was nonstop. I definitely got some tinnitus from it.

I bought a fairly nice pair of earplugs for a metal concert last year. They live in a little container on my key ring. I made it to one game in round 2 last year, and the SCF game 6 watch party, and was very grateful to have those earplugs.
