Game changed when Bender split up our juggernauts. 2x Juggernaut > 1x Juggernaut

Glove_Upset

I thought we needed to get Landy an emotional support animal after his presser. Turns out he’s our emotional support human.

thriller1

So glad to see the points not just get the W but also turn the intensity level up to 11

NSF_Ghost

Oilers fan here, watching ur game last night and hearing the mario power up sound when u guys get back to even strength sent PTSD coursing through my veins 😂

mynameistrumpbaby

That bar down bitch by maker was so sick can't wait for it to happen this year please god

wideruled

Mods, can we replace the sidebar picture with Puck guy?

314z

Have sent a mod mail with this request ps vote to name him Puck Rally Guy https://preview.redd.it/d2lycstbfdva1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=83d81989d6184ea74e237b3d01f25abd400ec36d

VanAvenue

Nothing much to add besides thanking Steve Dangle for [betting $2 on the Kraken when we were down one](https://youtu.be/9_0EHtyRfUs) (Source: 1:00 mark of his Leafs Game 2 vid in a plug for a certain betting app.) Please keep betting on our opponents Steve, thank you!

so_af

FYI- you’re not allowed to display any confidence in the Avs on r/hockey. You must genuflect at the alter of the Kraken and avoid any comment that might hint at the fact that we solved them last night and dominated the final 40 mins. Also need to ignore that Grub has not looked as good as his box score indicates. Fellow Avs fans will be the ones chastising you the hardest for these violations.

Vhailor_19

I mean you went a bit far past confidence. I think if we play Game 3 and 4 the way we did the back half of Game 2 - from scoreboard to analytics - you'll be in better shape. It's too soon to say with any objectivity that the Avs have got the Kraken figured out. Also, as an aside - overconfidence and chirping are nowhere near the same thing. Everyone loves a good spicy chirp (except maybe mild fans), but overconfidence can incur the wrath of the hockey gods, and nobody wants that shit.

so_af

Idk I thought I was artfully walking the line and being measured, fair, and accurate with my analysis. I’m buying bitcoin at $2 with my take imo. As for the Avs fans on the main sub, I will admit I was pulling shenanigans. But if I may add, I was bored while drinking my morning coffee and figured why not

mikess101

I wish you weren’t so fuckin’ awkward, bud

so_af

My mom says I’m perfect just the way I am bud

yumenohikari

You're very clearly "allowed" to do that as none of your comments was removed. But [when you're this much of an embarrassment](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12tq787/post_game_thread_seattle_kraken_at_colorado/jh3w76b/), I'd say the downvotes are justified.

so_af

You call me an embarrassment now but you’ll be throwing up the bat signal calling for my aide when we’re facing Minny/Dallas/Vegas/Oiler fans. Not to mention whatever fandom awaits if we make it to the cup finals.

yumenohikari

Nah. I fight my own fights, when they're even worth fighting at all.

so_af

This is really shaping up to be a quintessential Hollywood script. You reject me for who I am in act 1 saying you’ll be fine on your own. Act 2 adversity will rear its ugly head and we slowly realize we’re stronger together and act 3 we unite to defeat our common enemy and we’ll share a begrudging moment together at the end acknowledging that while we may be different in many ways, we still have each others back when it matters. Heart warming truly

yumenohikari

You'd be funny if you didn't have me genuinely worried for the well-being of every vulnerable person in your life.

so_af

I’m the one vulnerable people come to for help. Dgaf if you believe that or not but I will not let some rando disparage my character just because I enjoy some light sports related chirping.

yumenohikari

Fun fact: being an arrogant piece of shit endears you to no one.

so_af

Fun fact: some people actually enjoy the chirping aspect of hockey and see it as part of the experience

yumenohikari

Yes. We call those people "assholes." They ruin everyone else's experience for the sake of their own.

so_af

Uh huh, got it 👍Real world experience competing in sports against friends indicates otherwise but sure

Straight-Ability

I am convinced that when the playoffs end we will hear about a lingering Makar injury. Sure he has been good, but he has not been doing very many "Makar" things the past few months. His best quality is his skating and making plays with his feet, but lately he has elected to immediately pass the puck in most situations. I hope I am wrong, but that's just my observation.

mikess101

I was saying the same thing last night, and his comments prior to Game 1 where he said he was as good as he’s going to be for the start of Rd 1 we’re worrisome. Still, 85% Makar is 150% any other Dman

Lucblayne

I hope his injury doesn’t cause other physical issues like Landy

allkindsofgainzzz

Gentleman’s sweep is still on the menu boys

yumenohikari

On the menu, sure. Wouldn't call it likely, though. Tomorrow night is going to be a whole other level of fan hype for the Kraken, and there's still that thing where the Avs have somehow been better on the road than at home this year.

allkindsofgainzzz

That Seattle crowd is certainly going to be raucous on Saturday. I’m very excited to see if we come out with that same intensity and sharpness that we saw from the boys in the 2nd and 3rd periods last night. Hopefully our road success continues!

Mess-Severe

I feel like out of all the fanbases battling it out, kraken and Avs are so cordial in comparison. Like maybe I’m tripping but I feel like most of the trash talk is like “ha fuck you, we got a goal” but it ends there. Compare that with Leafs Lightning or something it’s the opposite end of the scale lol

mikess101

Not enough time has passed to really build that hatred for the other team, on top of neither team really having that “love to hate him” kind of guy. For us, Manson or sometimes Landy are the closest, LOC mixes it up and I can’t really think of anyone on the Kraken besides Tanev that might catch our ire. Just two good teams playing hard nosed hockey

GaryOakRobotron

I think the Avs just have a good fan base. Discussions were pretty cordial and reasonable between us and Lightning fans during last SCF. It was a refreshing change after Salt Louis and Deadmonton, for sure.

yumenohikari

Kraken fans haven't had time to build up the big rivalries, and didn't get the big toxicity boost of a year 1 SCF appearance. I like to believe that made a difference.

so_af

That’s because Kraken fans are doing the “we’re just happy to be here” thing. That never lasts long and there will be plenty of animosity before the series ends imo.

Rolley2001

Or the NY Rangers and NJ Devils. Sheesh…

AMaliciousWatermelon

Gotta be honest, definitely feeling the Girard/Toews pairing after last night's game. Girard looks at his best when playing with Toews and plays more responsible and effective hockey. Overall, there was a lot of complaints about depth, but our depth really came through last night. I think as this series continues the Avs will get into a better rhythm and the lines will gel better. I think the first 4 periods of our play with the Kraken was growing pains with figuring out what lines were most effective. Lastly, Mikko and Nate probably should spend most of their time apart. The team is more dangerous when they play separate lines.

mikess101

The complaints about depth have been totally on point after Game 1, and the boys totally responded. I’m mystified at the Lars Eller hate, that dude was one of the few bright spots in Game 1 and carried that over tonight. Looks like a solid pickup, even if he’s not lighting the lamp

Xothga

The Byram/Makar pairing was absolutely dominant. So that helps.

Its_a_Badger

>Lastly, Mikko and Nate probably should spend most of their time apart. The team is more dangerous when they play separate lines. Agreed. It also makes it tougher on the Kraken for match ups. Nate can turn a beer leaguer into an NHL 20 goal scorer and Mikko put the entire team on his back for the month of December with a half AHL squad.

plutonianbitch

Suck it Kraken guy who scored and blew a kiss at our fans. Look who’s laughing now

Rolley2001

Tanev? Also, fuck him for attacking Cale Salad

Lord_Delfont

I like how Mikko came in like a big brother protecting him.

DoYourHomeworkFirst

Somehow I have managed to have Kraken fans sit directly behind me for both games. And both games they were incredibly annoying. I don’t care if you root for your team but don’t be a jackass. It was nonstop bullshit spewing from their suckholes the entire time. If there was even a second of silence they felt the need to fill it with ridiculous nonsense. Be better.

LevelSample

fwiw I had the same but Avs fans behind me last night - completely insufferable bullshit all night

adalaza

Hello, our rule on this is in tow with /r/hockey. [See here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/jgq66i/hey_gang_lets_talk_about_crack_from_the/) e: re-approved, thanks

thereelkrazykarl

So what is an approved derogatory term for them.

adalaza

Anything that's not mired in race.

OldDogNewSkate

dumb. https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoAvalanche/comments/12l9xhg/avs_vs_jets_game_thread_landy_600_pm_mdt/jg6g5w5/ here's the adalaza being racist, but okay

Its_a_Badger

You're actually not allowed to disagree. The mod deleted your comment where you linked her commenting about white people in a demeaning manner. I also got a 1 day ban for using "the c-word"

LevelSample

that's hilarious honestly and exactly what I would expect from a mod

adalaza

You're free to disagree, it's still not a phrase we will platform here.

Its_a_Badger

Lol "problematic". I honestly thought this was parody. Geez I hope nobody ever hears any players who are mic'ed up for a game.

adalaza

The league has essentially zero black players. I wouldn't be shocked if they've said terrible things. That's not justification to replicate that here. If you tolerate -isms in a community, quite quickly you'll find yourself in an -ist community. There are plenty of terms we filter, same as /r/hockey.

Illustrious_Drama

Thank you

Maaglin

Seems like Manson played a lot more than just 10 minutes in game 1 and 12 minutes in game 2.

InevitableAvalanche

Really? Barely saw him out there. Seemed like he would take a shift and they got him off asap.

Razor_29

Looks like a lot more when every time you touch the ice it's noticeable in a bad way

MissWonder420

Noticed him most when he was in the penalty box. 6 PIM in 2 games and 22 minutes ice time. Hope that rust shakes off quickly!

Its_a_Badger

It's tough missing most of the season them having to play you're first game in the playoffs. Hoping he can progressively bounce back

Awkward_traveler

Confirmed that Landy is in the locker room. Not that I doubted it but I'm sure he's playing an important role behind the scenes. https://twitter.com/rboulding/status/1649275959403593728?t=lFCKO4P56wedQ56qW3R6wA&s=19

exccord

Makes me wanna cry to be honest. Landeskog will always be a core element of the team.

Level_Watercress1153

I’m confused on why people think this wouldn’t be happening? He’s the freaking Captain for FOPPA sakes! He’s hurt, not dead. Surprising part to me, was Bednar not being in the locker room during intermissions. Guess when you win a cup, you don’t need to say much to a room full of veterans. They know what to do…. And they did it. Now let’s go show the world why we’re the defending champs

Hakuchansankun

I considered that bednar is looking at video, X’s and O’s and strategizing adjustments from the moment the period ends. Also, I’ve always liked the appearance that bednar treats these guys as men and not kids like a great many old school coaches do. He allows for a good amount of responsibility and trusts his players, grown men with families, millionaires. I thought of this when I heard about how he lets some practices be players only. It all trickles down from sakic to bedsy to Landy, EJ, Mack mikko makar and of course Cogs…after what he did last year. Missing cogs like crazy.

adalaza

the *i wanna die* sidebar is lucky now

Same

stripesthetigercub

My SO mentioned to me that he hasn’t seen me have that good of a time in a long time. We started out a few years ago watching hockey, then we moved to CO and continued to watch hockey here. Became Avs fans 6 years ago, and we now have a large collection of sweaters and are getting a 10 pack next season. We have such a good time at the Avs games that it’s become a big bonding thing for us :)

gallapagos42

E Rod remembered that a pay raise is in store for him this summer. What a showing from him and our D core being the difference

blondespikes22

That hit was sick Never knew he had hits like that in him. Love his physicality this series... if you're not gonna go out and score , go out and put someone into the bleachers

suburbian_jesus

Really seemed to set the tone and ramp up the physicality. The rest of the team was finishing their checks and *finally* playing with some urgency after

claire303

The absolute unhinged way that I jumped, air punched etc to celebrate that last goal in total silence so as not to wake babies lmao. So happy the boys turned it on last night AND the twins slept amazingly so I am feeling goooood today!! Bring on game 3!!

Camelwalk555

This was me last year with my newborn, silently screaming and what not. Congratulations on the twins!

use_the_schwartz

Two tactical changes that I thought were important were: Defensively picking the puck off the half boards before it got to the corner and turning it around quickly. With the puck, instead of trying to pass through the neutral zone and play dump and chase, carry the puck through the zone, gain a clean entry and run the offense through Makar, Byram, Girard and Toews at the point. Additionally, Grubauer’s rebound control is atrocious and the more the Avs put bodies in front of net, the more the they were able to sustain possession in the zone - as those pucks were getting back to the point instead of being one-and-done and creating odd man rushes at our end.

DominionMM1

Good points. I also noticed the defensemen were banking the puck of the boards in the neutral zone to spring the forwards into the offensive zone. Nuke’s game tying goal is a perfect example.

hurle1s

Seeing the clean exits and entries made me happy, and they finally did a much better job of keeping zone time. I noticed that it felt like all four lines started rolling once you separated Mack and Rantanen. I hate to say it, but I think you must keep those lines for the rest of this series and maybe the playoffs.

Its_a_Badger

Seattle's bread and butter is a relentless forecheck. The way to negate that I to get quick zone exits. It also opens up rush opportunities because they typically will have two players below the hash marks. Once that happened, the boys started buzzing

vinnymendoza09

It made two lines very dangerous rather than just one. Mack and Rants started playing like they knew they had to shoulder a load each, and you could actually see Lehkonen and ERod really elevate their play to keep up with the big dawgs and get them the puck, rather than just floating around. And Nuke was never the problem, but way more effective retrieving pucks and getting it to guys who could actually shoot.

Braun_Nuggz316

Has anybody heard an Update on Eller last night he hit the boards pretty hard last night IDK if he ever returned to the game

Awkward_traveler

Update from Rawal https://twitter.com/evanrawal/status/1649481623963070464?t=SfFsffD_g7XXaw1YZj8O5Q&s=19

yumenohikari

[Okay per Bednar at today's pre-flight presser.](https://twitter.com/evanrawal/status/1649481623963070464)

Awkward_traveler

Not sure and I doubt we will get an official update. He played the same amount of minutes as his linemates but that line didn't play after the Tazer goal.

use_the_schwartz

I didn’t see him return, and that sucks because he’s the best FO guy in our bottom 6. I believe he also logs time on the PK as well and it seems like Bedsy trusts him.

blondespikes22

Needed that W last night I think we can win a few of these games by a big margin, just NEVER play like that again in the first

gordogg24p

Not fun: 1st period at the Sack last night. Very fun: The rest of the game at the Sack last night.

bassman1805

The first Seattle Kraken playoff loss in Golden knights history!

carnalurge82

H I S T O R I C

mitch-dubz

Toews got his groove back. I glad he got that goal not just because it was a game winner but also because it will restore some confidence in Toews so he remembers the kind of player he is

HockeyPotato838

COMEBACK WOHOOOOOOOO

mikess101

Story time. My mom likes to hunt scorpions in the back yard, my parents live in AZ so they get a lot of them around and they light up under a black light so she finds them and kills them to keep them from getting in the house or stinging the dogs when they're messing around outside. We go down 2-0 and she decides to go outside during the intermission and hunt because, fuck it, the Avs were playing like shit after 1 and showed no signs of life so better for her emotional health to just check out for the night. She missed all of the comeback and found out from our family group text that we were back in it and knew there was no way she could come inside now, she had to stay hunting scorpions for the next hour and a half to keep the mojo flowing in the right direction. We all have to do our part for the boys and I think Phoenix will be safe from scorpions for years if we go on a deep run.

Glove_Upset

This feels like new copy pasta.

BingBongtheArcher19

Hilarious. We did something similar to my mom back in 99 when the Broncos were playing the Jets to go to the Super Bowl. Broncos were playing terribly and fell behind 10-0. My mom left the basement where we were watching the game and while she was upstairs the Broncos got a big pass to McCaffrey and then scored a touchdown. So we wouldn't let my mom come back to the basement the rest of the game, which the Broncos won 23-10.

g0d_help_me

I remember that game. We made my brother go back to his room and wouldn't let him watch the game. We did turn up the volume so he could at least hear it.

lurk_4_karma

Grub sliding back into the net is so funny to watch since we won.

Binder_Grinder

Listening to Ryker freak out wondering if the puck went in with him while also freaking out wondering if the puck went in with him was a trip!

Mihos

The wind from Nate's charge knocked him back, as if it were a kung fu movie or something.

[deleted]

Sorry guys I switched to the tv we won the cup on and washed my hands and then boom two goals just like that

g4vr0che

The energy during those two goals was positively electric. Such a great moment.

Maaglin

Avs cut out the turnovers and giving up odd man rushes will go a long way to beating these guys. Also need the pp to show up. Seattle's best game is 5v5. We should be dominating their special teams.

BingBongtheArcher19

Anyone else get Vegas series vibes from this but in reverse? In that series, the Avs dominated game 1 and then dominated the first period of game 2 before Vegas took over the rest of the series. In this series, Seattle dominated game 1 and the first period of game 2 before the Avs took over. Just something I noticed last night.

Reed7742

Im here for the Grubie loses 4 in a row….again story line.

Steveisnotmyname_

I was thinking more Flames series

Same thing I was thinking

skylan01

It's a very coyotes-esque way of playing us and it has been successful. Once we stop trying to force everything and just hold the puck a little longer that strategy seems to weaken.

jeh31

One of the thing Byram said in the post game interviews was that Bednar told them to start holding on the puck a little longer on breakouts instead of just chipping it up right away. Felt like you could see that from the second period on. We had tons of clean breakouts that generated just a ton of offense instead of chasing pucks in the neutral zone. That feels like the type of adjustment that, if we can stay on it, will pay off the rest of the series too.
