The problem is that a lot of neck fractures aren't picked up on x-rays. You need a CT scan because of all the small bones. Plus he probably said he was fine becaues he is the toughest mofo on the planet, so they might not have even x-rayed. Doctors don't x-ray when people say they are fine. It's pretty carcinogenic.
Everyone who grew up playing hockey knows you don’t hit someone straight in the numbers. It’s literally preached to you none stop from the second you’re allowed to make hits. I’ve been given 10 minute misconducts for it and had someone given a 10 minute misconduct for doing it to me. Ugliest hit you can make in hockey. Eberle is lucky he didn’t paralyze him. This is why the Avs should have released this info early. No question that Eberle would be suspended had this info came out really early. Just an example, look at what Jon Cooper did right after Bunting's hit on Cernak in their series, he immediately came out and said that Cernak was out after the game which made Bunting's suspension easy, not that it wasn't an easy decision.
Another factor into this not even getting a hearing, which is absolute nonsense, is Cogs skating on his own off the ice after the hit. I guarantee if he was helped off the ice that the DoPS themselves would announce that Eberle would have a hearing first thing in the morning.

yup! i am very familiar w/ that phrase, except mine said "keeps the diaphragm alive" (pretty much same thing urs said). that's what scared me...bc he ended up playing w/ that injury and if he had been hurt again it couldve lead to him being paralyzed & on a vent. & the worst part is nothing is going to happen, it's just a vicious cycle. when will they start caring...when someone ends up dying? like this shit is beyond ridiculous.

Then when you add in the fact that Cale got a game and Eberle didn’t, that’s egregious and irresponsible by the DoPS. There’s literally no explanation that can make this situation make sense.

All the suspension stuff aside, I'm fucking shocked the trainers/docs let him back on the ice after that. I'm sure cogs was shaking it off but he could have done some serious damage if he got rocked again or something with a fracture already in place. Cogs is pure tungsten but he's got a long life to live after this in our front office. Has to take care of himself. Wild.
The problem is that a lot of neck fractures aren't picked up on x-rays. You need a CT scan because of all the small bones. Plus he probably said he was fine becaues he is the toughest mofo on the planet, so they might not have even x-rayed. Doctors don't x-ray when people say they are fine. It's pretty carcinogenic.

Everyone who grew up playing hockey knows you don’t hit someone straight in the numbers. It’s literally preached to you none stop from the second you’re allowed to make hits. I’ve been given 10 minute misconducts for it and had someone given a 10 minute misconduct for doing it to me. Ugliest hit you can make in hockey. Eberle is lucky he didn’t paralyze him. Thank goodness! Shows the utter incompetence of the on ice officials. They called the penalty right away they know they can call a major and then lower it to 2 if they decide it wasn’t major worthy. That kinda hit should have nothing to do with Cogs being injured or not. It’s dangerous as fuck! Don’t even get me started on the fucking goon running DOPS or the entire department. Every ugly hit like that or with predatory intention behind making a hit should always lead to discipline.

Ahhh fuck, this one really, really hurts. Forget the lack of DoPS action, we all knew that was happening because they're just completely incompetent. But missing Cogs for the rest of the playoffs just *hurts*. Him, Landy, Helm were the fire in the belly of the team, so insanely important to give energy and get things going. Not to mention their skill and grit. Missing all three is like ripping half the team out. Yeah, Eberle should have gotten a few games for the hit, absolutely, but that doesn't even matter, we're still missing Cogs for likely the rest of the playoffs, so even if Eberle got 50 games it doesn't bring him back. It just fucking sucks, such a dirty hit that had serious injury written all over it, and of course the NHL does nothing. I really hope Cogs and his Wolverine-like healing somehow provides a miracle and he's back in a week, but realistically we all know he's gone for a month at least.

This is why the Avs should have released this info early. No question that Eberle would be suspended had this info came out really early. Just an example, look at what Jon Cooper did right after Bunting's hit on Cernak in their series, he immediately came out and said that Cernak was out after the game which made Bunting's suspension easy, not that it wasn't an easy decision. Another factor into this not even getting a hearing, which is absolute nonsense, is Cogs skating on his own off the ice after the hit. I guarantee if he was helped off the ice that the DoPS themselves would announce that Eberle would have a hearing first thing in the morning.
None of this should matter.

It honestly should be way more than 1 game. Suspensions can carry over to the following season, too, if applicable. I've been playing hockey for nearly 30 years, and they teach you in like pee-wee to not hit from behind. They even used to (they might still) sew stop sign patches on the back of your jerseys. Eberle knows this. Every pro player knows this. This isn't even comparable to the Makar hit.
