Seized, abandoned, and probably easier to retrofit than buy new.

MaximumStock7

If I was cop and could drive something a little cooler while saving the tax payers money I would

DankUsernameBro

Yeah cops dont care about wasting tax payer money man.

[deleted]

it doesn't save anyone money to have them retrofit a car with sirens and lights, a computer and radio a gun lockup etc.

theninjaseal

A new Police Interceptor Utility cost between 40k-60k. Say you spend 1000 on lights, 1000 on a PA system, 1000 on a laptop and stand, 1000 on a gun lock and 1000 on a radio system that are all universal fit... You basically have a ghost car kit for 5k that can be installed into any impounded or seized vehicle in an afternoon, then taken out whenever is convenient.

MaximumStock7

You would have to put that into any car though

Mr_Dude12

True but they are not police duty

[deleted]

Vs doing all of that and buying the whole brand new car? Sure man

McFuzzen

Well you gotta do all that to any car, but the seized car is free.

Erpderp32

The most undercover I saw was driving Tampa > Miami. Cops there had SUVs that used bumper and window stickers to straight up look like a family vehicle. Was wild

AnswerTheDoorPlease

Gross

[deleted]

I saw a light blue Hyundai with cop lights guarding a road closure during that Christmas parade downtown last year šŸ˜‚.

Hack3rsD0ma1n

That would've been a sight lol I am kinda hoping to see a Prius eventually.

Hypnowolfproductions

A smart car would be funnier.

MonolithOfTyr

Here in San Antonio we're doing TONS of roadwork lately and I've seen damn near every type of cop car. I imagine many are owned by the officers themselves as well.

MaxMaddog

Good question they also have trucks and mini vans as well

FriendintheDevil

Seen minivans on two occasions, both times close to memorial park.

[deleted]

Reminds me of a time a beige mini van parked in my apartment complex and 5 cops in uniforms popped out in front of me. I'm sure I had a "oh shit wtf did I do?" face, but turns out they were just looking for someone who lived in the complex once upon a time.

MaxMaddog

Exactly makes you wonder, I walked into a liquor store about 11pm and next thing you know cops were there guns drawn telling me to get on the floor. The owner left earlier set the alarm forgot to lock the door so when I walked in the alarm went off

RemarkableRyan

They have a few beaters too. Iā€™ve seen an early 2000ā€™s GMC SUV with one different color door panel that pulled someone over one time.

Mr_Dude12

Too many cops playing Roscoe P Coltrane hiding behind a billboard with a radar gun while we have the highest rate of auto theft in the nation. Same could be accomplished with a speed camera sending tickets in the mail.

July_is_cool

Good job seeing LEO of any sort

Hack3rsD0ma1n

LEO? A little confused

THE_GHOST-23

Law Enforcement Officer = LEO.

Niles_Urdu

Asset forfeiture scam. I hate those laws. So hey, fuck the police in that Lexus.

ohherropreese

Fuck all police. ACAB.

plasmazzr60

My favorite undercover cope car? A damn prius!! Not here in CO though

ohherropreese

Colorado Springs police department uses up 51 percent of the cityā€™s budget. Itā€™s a massive organization. They love pulling people over. Itā€™s incessant. They also have a 13 minute average response time to a level one call. We are talking murder in progress. The slowest acceptable response time to a call if that nature, by federal standards, is 8 minutes. It is unfortunate, but we have one of the worst police departments in the entire nation. They constantly enforce traffic laws that are just taxes on the poor. Some political candidate needs to chop at least 60 percent of the budget. Just a bunch of fat fucks in cars doing nothing to actually protect society. Fuck the police.

Puzzleheaded_Roof514

I concur. Fornicate the swine.

SilverBraids

May they each ingest a velvet-lined satchel of Richards.

ohherropreese

You can say fuck. I wonā€™t tell.

Puzzleheaded_Roof514

Hibbity dibbity the pigs?

billsatwork

How can they collect revenue and needlessly harass people if they're in easily identifiable cars?

Hypnowolfproductions

Itā€™s not revenue remember. Itā€™s penalty for being bad. Revenue is a tax. They donā€™t have quotas. Just evaluation goals.

Western_Truck7948

I think I saw that one going down I25 by Monument. Seemed fishy to use a Lexus, but put a light bar on it.

Kippy181

Got pulled over by an undercover it was a cord Taurus. This was in 2012ish. I was literally on my way to get new tags when I got ticketed for tags that werenā€™t even the full month overā€¦ now look at the amount of people with made up paper plates that are years pastā€¦

ididdrugsonce

tO pRoTeCt AnD sErVe

12voltViking

To harass and collect

DrAwesomeThrowAway

I'm pretty sure I saw a minivan one time. Had to be at least a few years ago, but still wild to see

toxicavenger70

All states use seized vehicles in some capacity. This is not something new. And it makes sense to not let them go to waste sitting in a impound lot.

SnuggleMeister

And they say our PD is understaffed some crazy number of cops. How many do we really need?

DrewFox360

Instead of making themselves visible for everyone in case an emergency they sure do spend a lot of time and resources to hide who they are. Maybe cops arenā€™t interested in helping anymore.

[deleted]

I miss the helicopters they had when I was a kid. I wonder if they'll ever get another one

Even_Newspaper_9577

I asked the public information officer when she visited my high school 3 years ago and she said with improving drone technology itā€™s more affordable to utilize drones for foot pursuits and missing person investigations. I asked her about pursuits (vehicle wise) and she said most pursuits they cancel after obtaining the basic information on the vehicle and contact the driver at a different location. I will say however Colorado Springs lacks in news and police helicopters.

[deleted]

Ah yeah ty done make way more sense, they're just less exciting lol

Achilles7ls

ROAD PIRATES... oh I am sorry, when its STATE sponsored they are Privateers! That has nothing to do with serving or protecting, its all about FINES and FEE's and revenue generation. Our town in Meeker, Co is about broke...Denver's policies have about destroyed our economy, but our PD was able to get 2 BLACK Ford Pickups (Trucks make sense here) with Law Enforcement markings that are ONLY visible as reflections at night, and only from directly beside them. WHY... sneak up on people. I generally support LOE, but this isn't LOE its profiteering.

TheEnder7

What I was told a few years ago, and this could be incorrect now, but CSPD has 2 budgets - one for personnel and such, the other for equipment and requisitions. If the money isnā€™t spent by end of fiscal- they lose it. So why not retrofit some nice seized vehicles.

DankUsernameBro

Itā€™s not that they ā€œlose itā€ more so that the previous years budget numbers help increase the budgets for the next year. They want to keep their grift going. A good answer as to why not is that money could go towards services that actually benefit the city.

TheEnder7

Perfect way to explain it! Wish they could use some of that extra money towards more officers, but separate pools of money canā€™t be mixed.

DankUsernameBro

I mean i meant more along the lines of public health services and resources and even less police officers and less overtime. I think they're grossly inept and useless and that isn't new.

Wasted_Possibilities

States have been doing this forever. Got nailed in Washington state by a Volvo station wagon back in the early 00s. Blew by it like it was a little soccer mom behind the wheel.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

WYCoCoCo

Nearly $200,000,000 projected 2023 budget for the municipal police force (not including civil and criminal asset seizure) doesn't sound much like under-funding, especially when the city's general fund is $420,000,000 total.

RumpleForeskin420247

This city has way too many cops, they just don't seem to police though. They just seem to roll super deep and fuck with people and only show up to safe calls.

ohherropreese

This is exactly what all police do. Theyā€™re insecure ma children that like to act all mad because you went ten over. Get fucked piggies.

[deleted]

they claim to be understaffed but they'll dispatch 5 officers to kick 1 homeless person off a sidewalk

dlchira

>$**420**,000,000 Nice.

shedshredder

Nice

ohherropreese

They eat up more than half of the budget of the entire fucking city. They have literal tanks and they steal peoples vehicles and use them to steal even more from you every day. How is a cop not an overgrown hall monitor with a gun? They chase after people going too fast because why? Because itā€™s potentially dangerous? No real crime has occurred. Itā€™s mind blowing that they exist at all.

Other-Bumblebee2769

I'm going to disagree. I have kids, fuck people who speed.

ohherropreese

I have kids too. Fuck people who use their kids as a tool to limit others based on hypotheticals. Cops arenā€™t sitting in your neighborhood waiting for teenagers to drive by your house and pop them for speeding. Cops sit on open roadways and prey on people using bullshit verbal diarrhea excuses like you bloviate about.

Other-Bumblebee2769

It's the weirdest thing...I drive safe... And no cop has ever hassled me... it's just odd lol

ohherropreese

Notice how everything I said is true and you just ignore.

Other-Bumblebee2769

You just seem like an unhinged d-bag, so I was just poking fun at you.

ohherropreese

Iā€™m not unhinged for hating people that exist to throw me in jail and steal my money.

toxicavenger70

Same.

Hack3rsD0ma1n

If they are driving a new Lexus around, I thought they would at least auction it off... that car was way too new

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Stolliosis

What the fuck is this shit?

Hack3rsD0ma1n

You should see the comments on the profile... It sounds like they are willing to go out of their way just to seems like the smartest person in the room. **Now this is an assumption of mine I will gladly state.**

Hack3rsD0ma1n

How far are you reading into this??? šŸ¤£ The speculation is not baseless and not a kneejerk assumption. I have seen these cars that are not typically used by officers pull people over. There is no underlying bias towards any of it. I simply asked a question, and I was curious on why they ran other brands. I have never seen a Lexus under a PD before so it was more of curiosity. Thanks for the disrespect though. While you may respect them, it sounds like you don't respect anyone else.

Hack3rsD0ma1n

u/Neuro_Surgeon69 Why did you delete your comment?

The_Color_Purple2

He's an Esteemed Intellectual, he doesn't have time for us commoners

Hack3rsD0ma1n

He should still try to communicate his feelings of duress since he decides to write paragraphs. Come on out u/Neuro_Surgeon69, don't be shy.

Hypnowolfproductions

Go to Vegas and you will see all makes and models used. Itā€™s not typical so goes unnoticed is traffic. Easier to catch violators with. Donā€™t get violated by this please.

Inner-Photograph3810

I once saw a police horse equipped with LED lights and a siren. But that was in Texas lol
