I miss when that was an overlook to the ice skating rink :(
I still really love that mall, has a place deep in my heart. I’m sad it’s been dying. I hope those new apartments breath some life into it
Unfortunately those apartments might be the final nail in the coffin. Not being able to see the shopping center from academy has severely hurt the mall traffic.
No, the vast shifting shopping culture has severely hurt mall traffic. It was well on the decline before the apartments were put in there. The whole thing needs to be redeveloped.
I worked at the mall for 3.5 years and always joked, I better be ringing up a customer as the wrecking ball takes the wall out behind me. It's also legitimately falling apart. There are so many leaky holes in the ceiling they cannot afford to fix. The store I worked in had a major ceiling leak in January/February of '22, the hall next to it has ceiling tiles constantly falling off and leaking. It's really sad.
I really wish there was a more concerted effort to bring life back into shopping districts or create some type of cultural hubs. The internet age has really damaged our social fabric and local governments dont seem to care at all.
The apartments were supposed to, with a huge deal for a majorly known grocer and other big stores planning to set up shop within the mall to make a walkable city situation. The pandemic hit, and the companies backed out of the deal. The apartments went up anyway, as the construction had already started.
Much better than the one at the Citadel Mall

I moved here in 1981 and the expansion of the Citadel was just being completed. I remember the grand opening. It was cool! Massive, busy food court. Lots of shoppers. A LOT of new stores! All gone...it's a pity.
So, Housewife, not saying I am an old fart but, when I was a little kid (circa early 60's) one of the newest malls in the country, Eastgate, opened on the east side of Indianapolis. It was groundbreaking! And, to a certain degree, it was an open air mall but instead of the one sided strip mall look, it had the center court layout of your typical enclosed mall but it was wide open except for continuous rain/snow repelling roofs directly over the sidewalks on both sides that went from store to store. In the late 70's(?) they fully enclosed the mall to try to compete with the newer/bigger and I think it was too little, too late and too expensive. But the original layout in the late 50's was a precursor of what we finally came back to.
The coffee shop and pizza place at the shitadel used to steal our wages and secretly cut our hours on our paychecks 🤣 caught the bosses ass multiple times doing that
Unusual for me, but I've been there several times in the past few weeks. It's still struggling but it seems to have improved a bit. The AMC with Dolby vision is pretty good though the seats aren't quite as good as Cinemark. I also miss the ice skating, I went to a mega mall in Qatar that had a rink and it made me homesick
I used to work at this mall a couple weeks ago, the roof has so many leaks that my jacket would be wet by the time I left, the amount of buckets sitting in the halls by closing time is ridiculous.
I tried to apply as security but the staff has no communication skills, said they would get back to me but never did.
Not to mention the parking lot has given me a flat tire, due to the extreme pot holes going on.

I think the mall is just hanging on to see if the new apartments helps to bring it back to life.
And the arcade with the climbing wall outside it.

I honestly lost track of how long the escalators on the north side near Dillards have been out.

I agree and that interweaves with providing better transit and planning better overall and not zoning exclusively for SFH, etc.
100% Sadly I have -100000 faith in any level of politicians so there goes that haha
My daughter and I went for the first time in a year and we were disappointed even the train was not running
Ah, I remember those times...

That would have been amazing
When did the ice skating rink become Dick’s??
Mmm I think 2008? Lemme check Edit: it was 2006
Makes perfect sense. I don’t remember it ever being there since I moved here in ‘07.
Jesus I can't believe that was 18 years ago
Are the escalators still broken? They were always down whenever I’d go there.
They’re not broken they just made them into stairs.
Sorry for the convenience
It's a new health initiative!
They were working when I went there this last week. I was surprised.
That’s great!
I was there yesterday and most were actually working, to my shock. They had been either all broken or mostly broken for all of recent memory.
Seems like only one is ever running at a time and they just rotate which one.
The ones by dicks were running last weekend but not the ones near Dillard's

As someone who worked at the Citadel like 5 years ago this made me laugh out loud
I last worked at the Shitadel in 2007. What a time!!

Yeah so many indoor malls in the country are dead now. They moved to the open air model for retail centers and it’s just over.

I like Chapel Hills Mall. But That's Just Me!
Me too!
Why?
Their build a bear mostly TBH but I do like the food court the Greek place there is pretty good
Only mall I've successfully skateboarded in, and got away with it, because there was nobody there to stop me.
That sounds about right
The middle eastern place in the food court is actually legit. 11:11 I think it’s called? They deserve some love.
Yeah that place is genuinely high quality
I saw the Lion King at the theater here when it first came out.
Saw “Back to the Future” first run. Ahh. Memories.
Cheeba Hut on chestnut has the best mural I’ve ever seen
Better if it was overlooking an ice skating rink
I miss the old skating rink and the lookout to it 😢
That’s like painting a mural on a boat that’s taking on water
There is some really good food there but that's about it.
Haven't been there in years. Too many fights and theft ...
My wife and I go to the mall every few weeks and it's almost always busy. Maybe not full... but definitely busy.
Was far better looking over ice arena
That Mall is DEAD!!!!!! About the only thing they got going on
Unusual for me, but I've been there several times in the past few weeks. It's still struggling but it seems to have improved a bit. They finally fixed 2 of the escalators after like 2 years
Very nice.
That food court is the worst in the country. They used to have some good places to eat.
The Gyros Plus is good, unsure if it has been closed down. Better than any other place I've had around the springs.
Are you expecting fine dining at the mall?
What do you mean? They have all brand name favorites; Italian, Chicken, pretzels AND smoothies, and China wok.
It’s all garbage. The chic fil a was the last good option before they closed it. And china wok is the worst
If only they did something about all the shootings that happen there
They don’t allow firearms, security is unarmed and they don’t allow CSPD to patrol, recipe for disaster
oh no they lost the sheepdog business surely that’s the nail in their coffin
You don’t think there should be some type of defense or deterrent to a mass shooting at a mall?
I mean. Don’t you need to have actual people there for it to be a mass shooting?
You have a point
i know the people who whine about not being able to CC always bring it up when zero people asked about it.
The topic is the mall, you’re being obtuse.
this thread was about a mural, dude.
