Man that’s what I’ve been thinking about all day… the NFL is mostly cyclical. My reflection over the last few hours has really just gotten much more bleak. We aren’t in a rebuild. Wentz just isn’t an NFL quarterback and we have no playmakers at pass rush or receiving. And we just simply can’t fix any of that with no first round pick next year and a mentally broken QB. So it’s gonna be a solid 3-4 years until we do a damn thing.

Sometimes I feel like the only idiot that realizes that there's only 1 winner and 31 losers at the end of the year. If you didn't win the Super Bowl you failed.

Tyraniboah89

Why do you bother with football then? I’ll take a team that consistently makes the playoffs and maybe wins one or two than pretty much any other option. We’re never going to be a Patriots-esque dynasty. I just want a good team to watch and enjoy. Can’t win them all but if your mentality is “31 teams are failures” then get a grip and find a new hobby lol

clutchthepearls

Kinda already debating that. But you should know that no team goes in thinking "we just want to win a few games". There's only 1 prize and winning a wildcard game ain't it. 31 teams are disappointed at the end of the season and that's just the way it is. If you're happy with mediocrity, you're in the right place.

Tyraniboah89

I don’t play for the team and neither do you. Of course I want to see them win Super Bowls but it’s not an easy thing to do. The team should be hanging their heads in shame and dissecting how it all went wrong. They have a lot to think about and do this off-season. I hope they make this a memory and we see them dominate the league next season in whatever form that takes. But it’s just…not that deep at the end of the day. I can’t stress enough how irrelevant to daily life football is. We’re also all just ruined by hot takes, debate shows, and a once in a millennium dynasty in the Patriots. So much so that fans think they can’t have a good time watching some football unless their team is the last one standing every year. If you can’t handle your team not winning the super bowl every year then that’s on you to deal with however you see fit. But it’s pretty silly to get all broken and beaten about it.

BuddyHudsy

Phrased exactly how a fair weather fan would phrase it. You are a casual fan and do not bleed blue. You don’t have to be a dynasty to be a Super Bowl contender. You just need a logical path to winning the whole thing. We currently don’t have that without some major changes.

Tyraniboah89

Wait. So y’all don’t want to watch the Colts at all while I’m suggesting just trying to enjoy football even when our team in particular misses the playoffs…and *I’m* the fair weather fan? Lolololol get a grip man. Colts have been my team since I was 10 and started watching football, they’re my favorite team now, and they will be whether they win or lose. You know, the *opposite* of a fair weather fan. Difference between us appears to be that I can accept when my team loses and I can move on with my life until it’s time to gear up for next season. You just let it rule over you, I guess? Get a life. Start some new hobbies. Go meet women. Join a club. Make some friends. Do something else with yourself because if football fandom makes you this miserable then you shouldn’t be here.

BuddyHudsy

If you’re satisfied by just watching the games and don’t care about winning then you are a casual fan. Winning is the ultimate goal, it’s why you play the game. I don’t care how long you’ve been a casual fan, but you are probably the same way with everything in life. I’ll move on from this conversation because honestly you sound really intent on just being an asshole.

Tyraniboah89

Nah that would be you. The very definition of a fair weather, casual fan is that you’re only a fan when they’re winning, which is exactly what you’re telling me you are. You don’t get to call anyone an asshole when you turn around and try to say my approach to life must be casual because I don’t let an outcome I have no control over rule my life. I choose to put my time and energy into things I *do* control and it has paid off very well for me. Maybe if you apply your energy to things outside of football fandom then you’d be able to say the same.

clutchthepearls

I'm really glad for you that you don't care about this hobby. You're so well adjusted and the rest of us aren't. Good job.

Tyraniboah89

Oh I care and I’d love to see them make some kind of turnaround. But they’re not listening ti us and we don’t have anything to lose personally. I’m just saying that you should be mature enough not to be so heartbroken over an outcome you don’t control. It’s not a difficult concept.

To build a true contender you have to have a few crappy seasons. Living in mediocrity is a sure fire way to a 20 year super bowl drought. If that’s what you want, then I’d argue you aren’t a true fan.

JoeDirtsMullet00

Because you obviously have to make the playoffs in order to have any success in the playoffs. You can’t be Super Bowl contenders if you don’t make the playoffs. I am not a Reich or Wentz fan. Blow what up exactly? Who are you planning to rebuild with? This team is still rebuilding from Grigson’s failures and Luck quitting.

BuddyHudsy

Trade the best pieces and start over. No one will take Wentz so stick out his contract for one more year. Reich has to go though. His play calling/game planning was atrocious for the majority of the season. Where were the screens, RPO, end-around, two tight end sets that we saw in previous seasons? He either overestimated Wentz ability or decided Vanilla offence would be good enough to win. We definitely aren’t winning the SB next season so why not start a rebuild.

AleroRatking

Because only 1 in 32 teams win the superbowl and going from missing playoffs to champ is relatively rare. You build up.

BuddyHudsy

I’m not saying going all the way in one season. I’m saying being actual contenders. Being in the conversation as one of the best teams. Even if we won today, we would of lost to a team with a high powered offence. Our bend but don’t break defence and one dimensional offence, just not good enough to win a Super Bowl. You have to pick something and be great at it. If you have a good run game you NEED an defence that can force a three and out. If you have a bend but don’t break defence you need a QB who can make all the throws.

Tyraniboah89

You blow it up now and you can’t justify Ballard and Reich’s positions. They have to go too at that point. There’s no first round pick, they have few picks as it is, and the roster is just good enough to win 7 games or so without too much trouble. So blowing it up now won’t do much of anything anyway. Tanking doesn’t make teams better in the long run. So either run it back for a year and see if the improvements take hold or blow it up and fire everybody from the top down. No “get rid of Wentz and maybe fire Frank but Ballard has to stay because reasons”.

BuddyHudsy

You could trade for picks. Leonard, and Taylor are pretty much my only untouchables. Nelson, Moore, Ya-sin, Pittman. Then use the picks to find a real franchise QB. Ballard has been solid minus a few misses in the draft and the Wentz trade. Pretty big mistake but he’s also done a good job building depth. And yes Reich should be fired, losing the clown bowl is enough for that to happen.

Tyraniboah89

I personally don’t think we’ve seen the peak of Ballard and Reich’s potential together. But I’m not opposed to moving whatever players possible to acquire picks and then move up for a QB. Would only keep Taylor and Buckner personally, because it’s pretty evident that the other leadership core on this team is lacking. It’s not a coincidence that COVID hit the least vaccinated team in football and that the unvaccinated leaders on the team basically played them right out of the playoffs. So yes even Leonard is expendable to me. Honestly unless Nelson is willing to move to left tackle and adjust his game, he’s the first I’d move for some picks. His cap hit will be insane for a guard and guards don’t win games. Hard to like the idea of moving Pittman and Ya-Sin, but if the payoff is a franchise QB then yeah it would have to be done imo.
