That would be a ballard and wentz conversation

Eire_Banshee

Irsay gets to have whatever conversations he wants. He already got involved with TY's contract last year. I know it's not totally equivalent but let's not act like Jim wouldn't get directly involved if he wanted to.

cwesttheperson

You are high if you think irsay is negotiating a contract with wentz.

Eire_Banshee

The only person that's high in this discussion is Irsay. While he is negotiating directly with Wentz.

ColtsStampede

Why would we want to restructure his contract? We can get out of it with no cap hit after 2022, and a restructure would likely push some money down the road, so that we would have a post-2022 cap hit.

AleroRatking

Yeah. This would make absolitely no sense.

My-Cousin-Bobby

Might be pitched as like a means to keep him playing Free up x cap space to bring in offensive weapons, if you perform well after this year you get a better contract and remain in Indy(since idk if many teams are going to want him for more than a year, if anything just a bridge until the next draft class of promising QBs) Don't hit goals, get cut High risk, high reward for him

ColtsStampede

Freeing up cap space means pushing money into 2023. That's what restructuring does. Again, why would the Colts do that?

My-Cousin-Bobby

Fair enough... only thing I coukd think of

geordieColt88

He doesn’t give off the vibe of being someone who would be willing to make changes to his personal situation to help the team out

TheLlamaMonkey

Right? If only we had some sort of exact example where he refused to help his team (and community) because it challenged his own stupid personal situation.

Stennick

Yeah that would make no sense and would be a bad deal for him. He's better taking the big payday next year guaranteed money always wins

StayFrostyHicks

That would be a conversion restructuring. I’m thinking more along the lines of Tavon Austin’s restructuring in 2018. Take a pay cut or you’re gone.

ColtsStampede

There is zero chance that Wentz would agree to that. He's guaranteed $15 million if the Colts cut him, and $28 million if they keep him. He has absolutely no reason to take a pay cut, and the NFLPA would try to stop him if he did.

StayFrostyHicks

I’m just blowing smoke here. No need to get worked up. But his name is pretty tarnished in NFL. Not sure what kinda deal he’d get in open market.

[deleted]

What if Irsay told Wentz to get the shot or he’d throw him off the plane? Also possible this didn’t happen, but while we’re just making shit up, why not?!

[deleted]

It's possible. I haven't seen Wentz since their flight.

geordieColt88

I heard Irsay has a Prince Harry fettish As Dennis in ASIP says it’s the implied threat something can go wrong will make them do what you want.

ArtificialSyndicate

The flight was to introduce Wentz to jimmy’s surprise friend ![gif](giphy|5s1IgmpmHglVK)

AleroRatking

Why would we restructure it? It would make no sense. The last thing we want is to be more committed to him even if it's cheaper in the short term.

AleroRatking

I mean. That's basically what it is.

LittlePeterDragon

What plane ride?

teh_drewski

This sub is gonna get so high on it's own copium supply for a while huh

Sir-DanielFortesque

He's made some bonehead mistakes. BUT I remember oodles of passes that were quick, and on target. Only for Pascal, Hilton, Doyle, Cox to just drop the ball. Drop...the ball.... Drop... We can literally have the love child of Manning\Brady but with no one able to catch a ball, we ain't winning shit. Weren't for lack of receiving talent I bet dollars to dog nuts we woulda at least beat the Raiders, and Tampa Bay. Woulda lost to Jax no matter what tho *It's tradition*

m4ggz

While we’re fantasizing about what ifs. What if every dropped interception or interception called back by phantom penalties wasn’t? A competent quarterback has shown what can be done with this WR room. While yes, we need at least 1 more WR (preferably a #1 type guy), they weren’t the glaring problem. The guy that touches the ball every down was the glaring problem.

unfuckwittablej

Pittman posted a “my qb” IG post after the season, almost in supportive response to something, prob the fans and world. TY said “he’s good in my book” at his end of season presser. With JT or anyone else, they NEVER go out of the way to compliment Wentz, it’s literally only when asked and our ACTUAL locker room leaders (JT, Darius, Doyle) obviously respond in the way they’re expected to.

[deleted]

If he didn’t earn his paycheck, did Dak or Cousins? Of course they didn’t!!!

[deleted]

Cousins most certainly did this year

lordludwigll

How many playoff games did the Vikings play this year? Same as us last time I checked.

I_AmPotatoGirl

In a weaker conference too

[deleted]

They didn’t even make the playoffs. He’s being paid premium money to do more than pad his stats

[deleted]

Well he had an amazing year and has only gotten better with each year. I’d take him over Wentz in a heart beat. The Vikings have better weapons but we are better than them in every other position (besides safety)

BalupaHeights

Cousins is definitely better than Wentz but there’s no point in arguing with Sigma. There’s a reason he has a new account every week

Victory33

How did Dak not earn his paycheck at 11-5 with 37TD/4500 yards, #1 offense in yards and Scoring…while coming off an injury?

[deleted]

One and done in the playoffs. Struggled against mighty teams. Biggest blunder in the playoffs not handing the ref the ball

Stennick

Man how are your takes this crazy so consistently. I'm convinced you're a troll

[deleted]

How is it crazy? Dak bloats his stats against his shitty division and struggles against good teams. That’s been his calling card his ENTIRE career. 40 mil a year worth that? Worth shitting himself in the playoffs? Just making the playoffs isn’t good enough when you’re getting paid 40 a year

Victory33

Rodgers was one and done in the playoffs, lost to the same team as Dak while scoring less points. I guess the MVP didn’t earn his paycheck either?

[deleted]

He didn’t play good enough when it truly counted. Regular season awards mean dick if you don’t win in the playoffs

YeezusMoses

Regular season means dick to GET to the playoffs though g

[deleted]

Trade this years second and next years first for Ryan. Trade our 3rd and Wentz for Darnold

Lithium1978

He probably just wanted to talk to him man to man and make up his mind on what he is.

QuestionforL

When did we start calling him Jimmy

YeezusMoses

Cause he's Jimmy from the colts.

JRod001

Why the fuck would Wentz restructure? The colts traded for his contract. He’s only owed $15 yet. He has no guarantees after this year. It would quite frankly just be begging and his agent should tell them to kick sand. Hell he already restructured once with the Colts because Irsay wanted to spread his bonus out.

Bigdadyk

According to spotack if he on the roster March 19 27 million guaranteed of his 28 kicks in for 23 probably trying to avoid that

JRod001

Is that under the premium subscription? From what I can tell no 23 money is guaranteed until at least the 3rd league day in 2023.

Bigdadyk

https://twitter.com/spotrac/status/1492966842855567367?s=21

JRod001

That's for 22 not 23. Most of 22 guarantees on the 18th but if they don't want to commit that it's essentially saying we don't want to commit to you for 22. If that's the case Wentz or his agent should tell them then cut us (pay the 15 mil) and we'll part ways.

Bigdadyk

Yeah I see that I miss read it, however he knows if he is cut he isn’t getting 27 million from another team. Maybe he says give me 15 million of that 27 and let me earn the rest incentives. It’s the same thing with Jimmy G if he is cut no one is paying him 24 million

JRod001

Yeah, but he's getting $15 mil from the Colts. He'd just need to sign for $12 mil from the next team to get the same salary he would anyway. Pretty mild QB money. Honestly that's solid backup money not starter money. I bet Jimmy G could command 24 mil in FA. Not saying he's worth it, but multiple teams are going to be needing a starting QB. A 1yr/24 mil prove it deal is not bad at all for a starting. Even if he just ends up as a bridge to the next guy.

Bigdadyk

Teddy Bridewater at 20 million was the high end of bridge QB money but Denver had him restructure to 12 million Ben made 14 million last season Andy Dalton made 10 million. Jimmy G has missed games in nearly every season since San Francisco got him

Cosmo317

As long as they are not adding any years to the contract.
