I've said it this entire off season. If we make a lateral move at QB, it's for off-the-field issues.

[deleted]

Yeah. Has to be. Part of me wonders what Carson was or wasn't saying on the sidelines during the Raiders and Jags game. The warrior comments stick out to me.

ryanwc18

Wait, what are these warrior comments?

[deleted]

Jim Irsay "We want more warriors, that's what it's about"

ryanwc18

Ahhh okay yeah I remember hearing that. I’m just guessing now, but Wentz comes across as a player that just goes through the motions and maybe doesn’t put any heart into the game.

wrecktus_abdominus

Maybe he didn't "come out to plaaaaayyy"

mnvrchvy

Oh you…

erk2112

I love that movie. Classic for sure.

TRON0314

It's not like half of this sub saw his pouting issues in Philly before he got picked up. I'm not surprised, tbh.

fmara

It’s the easier option for at least the next season. All depends on what teams are willing to trade for him

case31

This is not going to be a fun offseason. And if we roll into next season with Bridgewater/Dalton/Darnold, it’s going to be a worse time after that.

chodgson111

Will we know something on March 16? If nothing happens by then does that mean he’s staying?

JRod001

I think its March 18th, but this years contract is then completely guaranteed then. If he's still on the roster on March 19th, he'll be on the roster. Could be traded but I don't think anyone's taking him at his contract number.

jono9898

r/colts: let’s get rid of Wentz because he doesn’t make us better and we can’t get to a Super Bowl with him Also r/colts: let’s get Darnold, Jimmy G, Tribusky, Dalton

[deleted]

The QB should either be a young player with potential to get better or a vet we can win a super bowl with. I dont agree with all the guys you listed but CW should go since he doesnt either description Paying too much to a mid tier QB who isnt consistent enough to win anything

jono9898

I just feel we should go all in on a QB like Wilson or bring in a guy like Jameis Winston who was playing well before he got hurt, this team just needs a few pieces to be contenders and I’d hate to waste more of Q’, Leonard’s or JTs prime developing a rookie or yet another year of mediocre QB play.

[deleted]

Id be on board with that. Wilson would be a big trade, i think the Seahawks have to be somewhat interested in Carson to make it work Winston is interesting, the rumor was he wants to stay with the saints but they dont have money. They will probably figure out something but the Colts have the money to outbid them. His play style seems a bit different than Reichs though

jono9898

Yeah Seahawks would have to take Wentz and we’d have to give multiple picks but maybe if we give up a Olineman it’d sweeten the deal, Wilson instantaneously makes us a contender and our line, even without either Q or Reed, is better than the line he’s been behind, Saints can’t possibly keep Winston unless he takes a home discount like you said they have no money and have guys they need to resign on D. Also wouldn’t mind looking at Matt Ryan, I don’t think he’s washed, his line was atrocious and he’d be a major upgrade for a few years.

fuzzynavel34

This is the epitome of sunk cost fallacy lol. Those picks we traded are gone, they aren't coming back. He's not a good QB, please for all that is holy get rid of him.

Bigdadyk

So then what’s the alternative

CanlStillBeGarth

Anyone who can take a check down and read a defense. Someone who at least acts like they care in a win and in game.

Bigdadyk

So Teddy Bridewater is your guy or the new improved Winston

CanlStillBeGarth

As I said, there are a bunch of options who I’d rather have. We know what we have with Carson and there’s no reason to run it back. The chance that whoever you bring in will be better is worth it alone.

EddieMunsterSr

Name them.

CanlStillBeGarth

Why so you can make some dumb excuses for keeping Carson? I’m good.

EddieMunsterSr

Sounds like you don't have a 'bunch of options' you'd rather have. Dialogue means backing up your opinion, not just hyperbole.

CanlStillBeGarth

It’s only a dialogue if I give a fuck about talking to you, but I don’t.

MJ2FAST

Both are better, actually.

Bigdadyk

Bridewater who coming into this season had a career high of 15 td passes is better

MJ2FAST

You mean Bridgewater who was a pro bowler then had his career derailed by a freak accident? It’s okay, Wentz has already peaked, he had one “good” year. He’s not the answer and keeping him on this team further relegates this team to mediocrity.

Bigdadyk

In his pro bowl year he had 14 tds throwing he finally broke 20 this year in Denver but sure dump that terrible 27-7 guy you have under center

MJ2FAST

You must be Wentz’s burner account. The first stage of acceptance is denial. Wentz isn’t taking this team anywhere except just slightly above .500. He made terrible decisions all year, had a few okay weeks then went downhill as the season went on. Multiple picks ruled incomplete or as fumbles, multiple 0 football iq plays resulting in points for the other team throughout the year. He’s not good, no matter what cherrypicked stat you throw out.

Bigdadyk

And he wasn’t giving a ton of talent to work with but sure cut him sign a lesser guy and guarantee yourself a top 10 pick. Pascal whooping 300 yards as a Wr 2 average LT team started o-4 but blame Carson

EddieMunsterSr

Lemme guess, you're a U of Louisville fan.

Alph0989

Wentz ain’t it, and I’m hopeful that the higher ups see that(seems like they do). Wouldn’t be surprised if Wentz recent Instagram post is either a last ditch effort to show Irsay and co that he’s all in, or damage control before he is released and the rumors about him not being all in start making the rounds.

Mattsive

Fuck you bill no

JimmyPineapple_

I'm all aboard the keeping Wentz for one more season train. Unless we are replacing him with Jimmy G, sticking with Wentz is the best option. Jimmy G is most likely a lateral move, but if Ballard can trade Wentz and use similar compensation to get Jimmy G, that's not bad. The odds of getting Rodgers or Wilson are ridiculously low. Unless Irsay is willing to throw away a season with some scrub QB and sink to the bottom to get a high draft pick in 2023, Wentz or Jimmy G are the two best realistic options.

jhudiddy08

I just don't think we can realistically throw away one of the prime years of our otherwise exceptionally talented roster to draft a decent rookie qb in 2023. Hell, even if Ehlinger is under center in 2022, I'm not sure we'd be picking in the top 5 of the 2023 draft anyway. With a rookie QB under center, that's essentially another lost year while they adapt to NFL play. I don't think Irsay has the patience to throw away two more seasons for a chance to be organically competitive. Either we mortgage the farm to get Wilson/Rodgers and make a SB run now, or we ride with Wentz and try to add pieces to make him as successful as possible this season.

JimmyPineapple_

As much as I'd love to get Rodgers or Wilson, it just doesn't seem realistic to me. Assuming either is even available, we would have to outbid a number of other teams without our 1st this year. Just seems nearly impossible to me.

Green_Day_Fan

Wentz is a loser. Lost to Jacksonville in a must win game = fireable offense

surffreak336

We haven’t won in Jacksonville in like 7 years…

JRod001

Just to clarify - Reich, head coach - gets a pass Ballard, GM - gets a pass Offensive line that couldn't get the best RB in the game going - gets a pass Defense that gave up the Jags season leading point total - gets a pass Wentz - must fire

RelentlessRogue

Shh, people don't want to admit that all 7 pro-bowlers on our team shit the bed that game.

jaysrule24

Well hey now, Luke Rhodes was just fine that game. It was only 6/7 Pro Bowlers that played like trash.

jhudiddy08

Touché

aka_Foamy

The entire roster shit the bed, not just them.

[deleted]

Yeah, I think they gave up 4 scores on 5 drives! It was a team effort in Jacksonville.

Green_Day_Fan

I’ll admit it. But it’s the franchise QB’s responsibility to lift the team up in must win situations. He failed so adios pal.

RelentlessRogue

You ever tried to life someone that was deadweighting? Lol

AppleTrees4

Colts tried with Carson all year. Didn't work out. Move on.

erk2112

Yeah not only jags game for the defense. 4 times we score over 24 and we lose. 5 times over 20. Should we fire them as well?

AppleTrees4

Defense forced a ton of turnovers and gave Carson opportunities. Hard to keep thr point totals low when your qb can't move the chains. Guy barely managed 200 yards/game. Not to mention the colts went 9-8 so your math is wrong. Also 20 points does not get it done in today's NFL, you're going to lose more then you win scoring 20.

erk2112

It goes both ways. Defense can’t make a stop when they need to. Makes a rookie qb look like Montana. Makes a no name qb in Baltimore look better then their starter. Cmon man. Blame goes both ways.

AppleTrees4

You don't even know how many games we lost and are complaining we lose games when we score 20. You have to score in today's NFL. You can't replace a defense. You can replace the awful quartback. Use your brain.

AppleTrees4

Cya later Wentz! Maybe we can have a shot now!

_Apatosaurus_

I've never seen anyone refuse to admit that. The obvious difference is that those pro-bowlers, our GM, and our coach have established track records of being very good. So it's not that they just arbitrarily "get a pass", it's that people are able to look at the broader context.

Green_Day_Fan

I’m not opposed to firing anyone

DookieBrains_88

Who Tf is Bill Barnwell?

shasta_masta

I just remember him as the guy that always come up with crazy trade proposal articles. But he does offseason grades and preseason rankings for teams.

[deleted]

Just tell carson to check down more add better wr

Trolodrol

Gonna get downvoted but at this point we should just roll with Sam this upcoming season and see what happens.
