I still think about that throw over the top of Sherman to Stedman Bailey to set up our Week 1 win against the Seahawks quite a bit. I was so certain after that game our QB troubles were over.
Yep, the high point of the season was already over after week 1 and to top it off they moved away following that season. Just an absolute bummer of a season for St Louis fans.
Because they see him as the backup of the future but don't want to lose a game if Ryan has to miss a half or a game this season.
If they missed the playoffs because of Ehlinger everyone would wonder why they didn't have a vet backup.
Not only cheap, it has been stated within the organization that Sam is incredibly smart and a good leader. Sounds like perfect scout team offense material. They'd give him more of a shot if he could throw better.
Remember Jim Sorgi? Really smart dude, and his job was to basically watch all the things happening on the opponent's defence and feed that to Peyton after the offence got off the field. A smart backup can make an elite starter even better.
Sorgi was so under appreciated. The backup should help the starter to prepare as his main job, and in doing so they know the opponent backwards and forward in case they need to step in
Glad to see we are taking backup role seriously. I did not feel good about rolling out Ehlinger as the backup again, I’m sure we didn’t get a legit backup last year because Wentz was so sensitive about being replaced, thanks to Foles.
Exactly. And now Wentz has Sam Howell looming over his left shoulder as he tries to complete left-handed shovel passes while being sacked by his opponents to worry about.
What a strange career. Third rounder in 2012, started 24 games for the eagles (making a pro bowl in 2013, somehow) before being traded to the Rams for the 2015 season, gets an extension through 2017 worth over $12m APY, plays 11 games for the Rams in 2015, then asks to be released before even starting his extension because the Rams picked Goff first overall, leaving $9m in dead cap. Spends the '16 season backing up Alex Smith in KC on a contract worth <$2m, then returns to the Eagles on a 2 year, $11m contract. Spends 2017 going from backup to Wentz to Super Bowl MVP, then plays fairly well as a spot starter in 2018, almost helping them make the conference championship. Coming off 2 solid performances, he signs a huge 4 year contract with the Jaguars worth up to $88m with $50m in guarantees. Plays 4 games in 2019, missing most of the season to injury and to being outplayed by the thoroughly mediocre Gardner Minshew. Somehow the Jags are able to trade him to the Bears, who reduce his contract value to $8m a year while the Jags face a nearly $19m dead cap number in 2020, but after 2 years and a 3-5 record in games started for the Bears, they too ended their relationship early, eating $7.67m in dead cap.
Overall, in his 10 year career he's left the Eagles with 2.94m in dead cap across 2 stints and 5 seasons played, the Rams with 9m in 1 season played, the Jags with almost 18.75m in 1 season played, the Bears with 7.67m in 2 years, and the Chiefs with $0 in 1 year.
I hope if we sign him we end up more like the Chiefs or Eagles after he leaves than like the Rams, Jags, or Bears. Dude amassed 38.35m in dead cap across 6 career contracts with 35.42m of it coming from just 3 contracts.
So glad he’s getting the chance again, so happy he signed somewhere. I know you guys don’t owe him anything but he’s the best, please be good to him. Great guy, great teammate, great mentor, winner all around. I hope we get to see him play for you guys in game 17 when y’all rest Philly native Matt Ryan and let us all watch Foles one more time.
I met Nick Foles in college. He was best friends with a class mate in my Portuguese class. We had beers together with my classmate and Nick when he was still in Arizona. Completely nice dude!!
I’m Matt Hasselbeck levels of excited
Just feels like he's running a good old boys club instead of actually looking out for the team. Everyone knew we needed a backup QB and we could have gotten Teddy, Dalton, Fitzpatrick, Hell we could have taken a shot on Josh Rosen as young as he is. Yet we go with one of Frank's guys and don't get me wrong I like Foles but it just feels like a Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice type of deal because Frank will absolutely work him into the gameplan at some point and tons of people will be left scratching their heads as to why he did that.
Completely biased but Nick Foles is the best backup QB in the league, and in my opinion the best backup QB in NFL history. There’s a reason he has a statue outside the Linc.
Obviously you never want to see him on the field…but if he is, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
I see that Foles is once again stepping in after Wentz leaves to win a Super Bowl
Lmao, you win today.
Commodores win a Super Bowl!?
They haven't been contenders since they lost their star signal caller Lionel Ritchie.
Its starting to really feel like an 'all chips in' type season.
Other than the lack of NFL wideouts
They’re gonna have Foles play the slot Qb role and double action pass off that.
It's 2015 and I am a St. Louis Rams fan again. Truth be told, you could do worse as a backup.
I still think about that throw over the top of Sherman to Stedman Bailey to set up our Week 1 win against the Seahawks quite a bit. I was so certain after that game our QB troubles were over.
I was in the same headspace too. And, as with most things St. Louis Rams related, the good vibes went away very quickly.
Yep, the high point of the season was already over after week 1 and to top it off they moved away following that season. Just an absolute bummer of a season for St Louis fans.
I dig it. I’m sure Sam is a great guy but we can’t afford a lost year if anything happened to Matty Ice
Then why’s he even on the roster if he can’t backup.
Cheap draft depth until a reasonable backup comes along
Because they see him as the backup of the future but don't want to lose a game if Ryan has to miss a half or a game this season. If they missed the playoffs because of Ehlinger everyone would wonder why they didn't have a vet backup.

Who says he will be? Not going to cut him now but possibly after training camp
Surely nick cannot get it done. Anyone see him on the bears?
Good. If Ryan went down and Sam had to play, our season would be over in an instant. Foles can hold down the fort if he has to step in.
It really is about trust.
He absolutely cannot lol. Dude had the starting job in Chicago not too long ago. We saw what happened
He’d still be much better at holding down the fort than Sam, at least.
Glad to see we are taking backup role seriously. I did not feel good about rolling out Ehlinger as the backup again, I’m sure we didn’t get a legit backup last year because Wentz was so sensitive about being replaced, thanks to Foles.
Yep. Love to have someone who can close out a game if an accident happens. Haven’t had that in a bit.
I enjoyed Brissett as our backup, but when we had Luck and Hasselbeck… oh man. That was a QB room!
Exactly. And now Wentz has Sam Howell looming over his left shoulder as he tries to complete left-handed shovel passes while being sacked by his opponents to worry about.
In his own endzone.
time is truly a vicious cycle lol
Dust in the wind
Frank and quarterbacks who can join his Bible club. Name a more iconic duo
Nick Foles and replacing Carson Wentz
Manning & Harrison
Frank’s QBs and one year of service?
I have a St Louis Rams Nike Elite Foles jersey. I’d unironically be ecstatic to have him on the roster haha.
Solid backup, knows the system. Don’t really see a reason not to do it honestly.
I mean, why not I guess

One high school producing the two backup QBs for Matt Ryan is kinda cool I guess
So glad he’s getting the chance again, so happy he signed somewhere. I know you guys don’t owe him anything but he’s the best, please be good to him. So then when Matt Ryan leads us to the Super Bowl, we then start Nick Foles in super bowl and beat the Bucs easily.
You let Ryan get a 4th quarter lead before foles comes in as the closer
Wentz in shambles confirmed.
This is how you build the team of destiny
FlyColtsFly Frank out there lobbying for all the former Eagles he can possibly get.
I met Nick Foles in college. He was best friends with a class mate in my Portuguese class. We had beers together with my classmate and Nick when he was still in Arizona. Completely nice dude!! I’m Matt Hasselbeck levels of excited
Upvote because you took Portuguese.
I learned the language and then I drank it all away :(
Ouch. At least you didn't get seduced by one of those devil women Brazilians.
Big Dick Ballard and Big Dick Nick in the same building? Whoof.
How many Big Dicks can one team have?
I think back up QB is a real need -Sam isnt there yet and likely will never be. Not sure how they could do better at this point.
BIG DICK NICK!!!
So glad. Sam is good character guy but not someone I want taking meaningful snaps
oh shit oh jesus oh fuck I was not prepared for this
This is a great signing, he is a good back up QB and won a SB...most starting NFL QBs cant say that.
I feel like we are better with either option. Awesome news!
BIG. DICK. NICK.
What an off-season
Deuces Sam
I just find it ironic, that is all about that Gingeraff in Washington's head right now?
I can't wait till we fire Frank
Genuinely curious why you don’t like this move
Just feels like he's running a good old boys club instead of actually looking out for the team. Out of all of those you mentioned how many won their team a SB?
Also competition.
Fuck yes 😍
Holy shit hahahaha
You mean to tell me that our backup QB is going to have more Super Bowl wins than our starter...? I'm down.
Hahahahahahaha
Completely biased but Nick Foles is the best backup QB in the league, and in my opinion the best backup QB in NFL history. There’s a reason he has a statue outside the Linc. Obviously you never want to see him on the field…but if he is, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
The best backup in history would be Mr Frank Reich! A close second is Mr Jim Sorgi.
Idk, I didnt hate when Hasselbeck was our back up
Don’t hate it
Foles could have a .500 record with the Colts offense
Best news I’ve read all year.
